What the S4 might look like"mock video" - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

stripped apart rebuilt with Clean Rom&XdaTechnology!!!

the home button seems to be a little plain for me
the keyboard is sick though.

Hopefully samsung takes their time to release their next flagship phone. Releasing too soon would anger so many new gs3 users. They should wait for the next gen. technology to mature a bit and release in June the soonest. just my opinion

I hope on the next galaxy phone they concentrate on possibly making it look great. Maybe less plastic..
My Nexus 10 is better than your tablet. Hah.

I hate how thin phones are getting.. >< its hard to keep in your hand so i threw a gigantic case on my GS3 but.. thinner? really?

I....wish they would really focus on better radio's..
stripped apart rebuilt with Clean Rom&XdaTechnology!!!

Interesting.
Personally, I'm waiting to see what Google does with Motorola and the romoured x projects.
Samsung's radios affect me heavily in my poor service area but after dealing with the lack of support for the x2 that was replaced by my s3, I'm a little hesitant to go back to Motorola radios. They'll have me as a customer again if they unlock their **** and I sincerely hope that being under googles thumb makes unlocking happen.
That said, a 1080 big ass screen, laser keyboard, 13mp camera with that much processer horsepower coupled with a big battery and those ****ing bad radios be damned. S4 is shaping up to be a monster.
my tapatalk signature sucks more than yours.

It looks awesome. I like the idea of having very little side bezel but how would you put a case on it without covering up some of the screen? I'm not sure how I feel about phones getting thinner, I mean how thin do they really need to be? There has to be some optimal thickness for a phone, I don't want to feel as if I can snap my phone in half!
The keyboard looks pretty awesome but how well do those types of keyboards work? I feel like there would be a lot of typing errors with something like that.

Why did Samsung not....

...build the Nexus S like they built the Omnia 7?
The build quality on my Omnia 7 is so high compared to my Nexus S, metal casing, no creeky plastic to be found etc... So this is proof that Samsung can make seriously good quality stuff, so why all the plastic???
Omnia 7 outside with the insides of the Nexus s = WIN.
If your Nexus S is creaking you should return it. They don't normally do that.
^ This.
Compared to the Epic. The build quality of the Nexus S 4G is a vast improvement. Now that was bad all plastic wobbly keyboard bad quality build.

metals heavier tho?
Maybe Google didn't want metal? I think people sometimes forget that Google and Samsung designed the Nexus S together, and that the Nexus S is Google's vision of an ideal phone.
I think Google wanted something sleek, light, and sexy. Not boxy and heavy. But thats only my opinion.

The omnia only feels slightly heavier. Its just that my Nexus feels like a toy compared to the omnia which is built like a tank.
Dont get me wrong, I love the design of the Nexus, its just that I can see it smashing into pieces if I drop it, but the omnia feels like it could survive an air strike!
The volume and power buttons also worry me with the Nexus, they feel more sturdy on the omnia, much more.
The omnia just has a more high end feel in the hand, Nexus is still the better phone tho.
If you guys get a chance to have a look at an omnia 7 up close, I am sure you will agree that the Nexus feels like the poor relation (even tho its not). Little things like a cover for the usb hole, little clip to release the battery cover etc... all make the omnia feel much more high end than my Nexus.
I prefer plastic to metal, so long as it's good plastic.
The creeky plastic sound he is talking about is from the plastic battery cover the actual built quality phone.
Samsung focus is now on actual hardware/thickness/weight
The build quality is much better than my plastic vibrant i owned
I only went with HTC prior to my vibrant
IMO HTC focuses on build more than hardware from my experience they seem to cut corners when hardware is involved ..its like pulling teeth to make them budge on hardware quality and upgrades i would guess to reduce cost since they invest so much in the build quality IDK
I remember my NS lousy speaker, camera, multitouch and Bluetooth range was a joke.
Samsung came out with galaxy s then HTC finally budged on "quality" hardware IMO they still cut corners i dont trust HTC anymore
2 me this phone sucks eitherway. I dunno. It lags ridiculously and fcs all the time. Stock of course..

The NS had numerous bugs when it came out. I would only really characterize it as stable once the 2.3.3 patch came out. I wouldn't characterize 2.3.4 as a bad patch, but I think 2.3.3 had the fewest problems of any NS stock ROM to date. 2.3.4 is still a lot better than pre-2.3.3, though.

could be a defective phone but yea im having freezing and lagging issues constantly.
some need a batt pull
whether i uses ADW or Stock Launcher i just have trouble...
Could just be a dodgy app. get rid off stuff 1 at a time, see if it helps. Software wise I have no issue, even my GPS is working now.
got the NS4G on Friday, and stock is faster than anything I ran on my rooted EVO. As far as build quality I do feel like the EVO feels more sturdy but so far I am loving my NS4G
I definitely would prefer metal over plastic, but it'd be hard to pull off the NS's sleek look with metal. Plus, I'm not sure how metal would affect the NFC capabilities. T
That being said, while the shape of the phone is perfect IMO, the plastic feelings is meh, which is why I got an Incipio Feather for it. For the matte feeling and to avoid scratches, rather than for the sake of an actual case. Now holding it without the case just feels wrong
OP, if you are rooted, I would go and fix perms in recovery. If that does'nt work, you have other issues. Mine is running flawlessly. Granted I am running stock/rooted. And... Knock on wood.
FOR the love of god!!! seriously. the NS4G isn't anything different from the normal nexus S.only thing it has that the NS doesn't.is a different radio chip that supports 4G(that is a bit of a BS cuz its not true 4G)

Just a suggestion but you should update your OP to include the link for the live stream so no more threads about this are made.

Same here...
I'm surprised they didn't bump the camera specs by at least a bit. I get that MegaPixels aren't everything. But in the world of tech, megapixel numbers do actually make a difference to the general public.
I was also expecting a little bit more ground breaking design. Or ground breaking something.
This phone feels drastically short on some key areas.
No Plus screen?
Camera is more software upgrade than hardware.
Not only lack of software buttons...but PHYSICAL home button? At least go full capacitive like the Skyrocket.
The "Siri-like" features already feel like they are old news. They shouldn't be a major draw. And as somebody who had Siri, it gets old fast.
This just really isn't a pretty phone...looks almost plain and boring...or just generally unoriginal. A little Galaxy, a little Nexus, that's about it.
I have to say it...I think they left the door wide open for Apple to amaze people with the next iPhone keynote. This announcement felt like a lot of smoke and mirrors to cover up that there really is barely anything new with this phone at all.
In one bit of news though...I noticed Touchwiz had some new looks to it. Didn't look like enough to call it Touchwiz 5, but more like a 4.1. Interested if we will get it at some point.
Ground breaking news would be .. 12mp + camera .. whether or not they are able to keep the quad-core for 4G/LTE (unlike HTC's flop) .. don't really care about the rest.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Agreed. I am also disappointed.
Although that new touchwiz looks nice. Hopefully we can get it ported over or something
Nothing really new that isn't already out. The international one x is very similar in spec wise except for memory. Sammy failed to amaze this time.
thanks samsung. you made my decision to stick with the skyrocket a lot easier =)

Well, honestly this is probably part of it. There is probably quite a bit of non-competing clauses and patent issues mingled in there. And the Apple load keeps them so busy it's probably harder than it seems to work on their own unique stuff. They make a wonderful CPU or screen for Apple...and then probably lock themselves out of doing any of that on their own products. So they have to find ways around it. I can tell you my company deals with similar type issues sometimes. Making money off your competition isn't always as wonderful as it sounds.
Well .. the GOODNESS just disappeared from my point of view.
Found the full specs up on PhoneArena (http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-Galaxy-S-III_id6330).. confirmed what I feared .. nothing new at all, same as the HTC One series.
Quad-Core yes .. NO LTE SUPPORT !!!!!!
12MP + camera NO .. same ole 8MP and 1.9MP !!!!!! I thought Samsung was one of the pioners of cameras !!!!!! Well, they certainly ain't showing it.
Sticking with my Skyrocket .. until something REALLY IMPRESSIVE is released.
Also, I doubt the home button would be there when it comes over seas to the US. It always turns into full capacitive when it hits here. So atleast it won't be nearly as ugly as the international version. But still.. nothing made me want to go out and buy the s3 at all
When buying a phone its not all about the numbers, if the software behind the camera improves the camera over the S2, then who cares if its an 8 or 12 or 41 megapixel camera? If it has DOUBLE the processing and graphics power of the S2 how is that disappointing? If it makes a huge improvement over google voice actions to make it MUCH more user friendly, again how is this disappointing? I'd say it is the best android phone, and definitely better than the iphone. So for at least the next 2-3 months until the iPhone 5 is released this is the undisputed champ of smartphones. And all people can say is disappointment because there isn't a 5 ghz processor and a 50mp camera? From the reviews i've read of people ACTUALLY USING THE PHONE instead of looking over spec sheets, they all love it. Spec sheets mean nothing when your phone is in use, they are just talking points. If the phone works beautifully (all indications are that it does) then why are we disappointed?

Guys, I read some comments on another site that US/Canadian would have a lower CPU to accommodate LTE? I didn't understand that, could someone clarify
I didn't use my upgrade on the SII so I'll be planning on picking this one up in the Pebble Blue. I just can't do white devices. Maybe it reminds me of my childhood with all the Beige/White systems.
Performance seems to be pretty good, a good setup from my Captivate so I am all for that.
So while I would have loved a A15 quad or even better GPU, well, we always want more so I think I will be happy with it. It does not seem as the Nvidia thing is catching up so I hope the whole Tegra exclusive crap is over otherwise, having a super GPU when the games are getting better features only for Tegra wont help me much.
Not sure why someone cannot be happy with the screen. Black is black and everything is punchy. I have a HD projector calibrated so I can be picky but I love Samsung screens.
Now the Q is..how long before stupid ATT brings it here.
USA releases are slotted for June. More info, as always, pending carrier announcements. Those will probably come when their world tour stops off in NYC, from what I'd guess.
man I am way behind
How can one hate that curved metal finish on the side. It's very sexy.
The whole camera-design thing: who actually looks at their camera lens on a daily basis? Its always behind the phone where you'll rarely ever see it. People these days...

Definitely looking forward to upgrade.
There's been speculation that to accommodate LTE in the North American release, they might go with an S4 instead of the Exynos, which is also an excellent processor (though I would have liked to experience the Exynos).
Still, it's almost time to upgrade for me. It'll be nice to experience LTE.

I agree. Never had a phone that lasted this long without me wanting to upgrade..and the way new Roms and OCing kept extending its life its pretty awesome.
Was anxiously awaiting this thing since even though my cappy is beyond amazing, it's begun to feel its age a bit and I'm totally looking forward to a new phone.
I am totally not disappointed and can't wait to finally get my upgrade when it comes out.
The screen is awesome, and since I never got to see super amoled + I can't say I'm going to miss it. I just hope the GS3 is anywhere near as good to me as my cappy has been - although I'm going to miss the build of this phone cause it was awesome.
I love the specs...but I'm a tad disappointed by its aesthetics... I mean it looks like a cheaper quality phone with all that plastic...on the other hand HTC one x looks like sex
Same here didn't use my upgrade yet but will wait to see what the US versions specs are. Might be changing from AT&T to Sprint soon as wife contract is up.
I was really disappointed with the Galaxy S3. I will most likely be upgrading to the HTC One X. In almost every situation the One X beats or is a tie with the S3.
Screen: Most reviews say that the One X has a better screen then the Galaxy Nexus, so I believe that with the S3 having essentially the same screen as the nexus the One X's will be better.
Processor/SOC: The S3 will likely have an S4 in Canada so in that case it is a tie. If the S3 does have the quad core in Canada it will probably not be that noticeable of a difference.
Software: Both will likely have great Rom development, but in a worst case scenario, I can live with Sense 4.0, I cannot live with that hideous touchwiz.
Hardware: (IMO) The One X is gorgeous. The S3 is meh. Also, the S3 has a menu button, what were you thinking Samsung! I don't care about a removable battery or sd card slot.
Camera: I'm guessing it will be about the same (Don't care much about camera).

(Video) AT&T One X vs AT&T Galaxy S III

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZuhAFHuNZk
Hope you guys like it!
Amazing comparison.
Good video.
Haha, I found it laughable that the 2 points that made the GS3 win were not related to the actual phone, but instead branding.
However, I can agree with the point. For general consumers, that is definitely a plus. Also, it was a competition on which should be THE Android flagship, and that makes the points even more prevalent.
Most Androids just don't have good presence or accessory support.
I can agree with the decision, but still think the One X is better as a general phone. Especially once ROMed up. When we get source, we'll be blazing!
Thanks for contributing. It was definitely interesting
Great video. I actually kind of agree with your conclusion...the S3 might be the better "flagship", but I'd prefer using the One X on a day to day basis.
When comparing these phones, for me it always comes down to this:
Software can be improved and optimized, hardware cannot. The multitasking issue is already largely mitigated in many custom ROMs, and that situation will only improve once we get kernel source. With the S3, you're always going to be stuck with a pentile AMOLED display and what is, in my opinion, a lower build quality.
Still, having to choose between these phones is definitely a #firstworldproblem, because they're both A+ devices. It is a great time to be a gadget nerd.
Good review. Makes me happy to be sticking with my One X for the reasons you mentioned.
I have to say, his video makes the SGS3 look really appealing when viewed from the top. As soon as you flip the phone over, it's ugly as sin.
If we were able to have the back of the One X with the front of the SGS3 including the rounded corners, with the matte coating and materials of the One X, it'd be the best phone ever.
I really just like how the front of that phone looks. ><
#FWP
Superior display, battery life and design are worth more to me than any other cosmetic issues. HOX wins hands down in all three features I care about.

Nice rewiew...
I got to play with a DoCoMo (S4) SGS3 for a couple of days about two weeks ago while I was in Japan and compared it to my international One X. Other than the browser which Samsung always does an incredible job with, the SGS3 wasn't perceivably "faster." At least not after I loaded the same 93 apps I regularly use on my phone. Both phones are incredibly fast, noticeably faster than the previous generation of phones. I think when you get down to measuring performance of transitions in milliseconds it becomes irrelevant.
TW vs. Sense is personal preference. TW has been basically the same since the SGS1. Outside of introducing "ploink" and "tink" sounds TW3 and TW4 are 90% the same. Sense is an environment, TW is an OEM launcher and when you're actually trying to get stuff done Sense's comprehensiveness allows you to be more productive. When comparing in-built apps (social, e-mail, music) and integration Sense is a clear winner. If you don't like overlays TW wins because it's less intrusive. I'm surprised more people haven't noticed but TW hasn't been resized for the HD display and presents 20% less information. For example, in settings, you'll see eight options displayed in TW and 10 in Sense. That carries through in everything in TW and Samsung's stock apps. Coming from a i9100 I'm tired of looking at the same blocky, dark, and dreary interface. Sense seems brighter, more polished, contemporary, and is w/o question the better integrated UI.
Some stuff was left out of the review. HTC using partitions so the phone can be connected as mass storage vs. Samsung’s MTP is a big deal for people that transfer a lot of stuff back and forth between their phone and PC. You also don't have to screw around with drivers if you're using someone else's PC. That combined with slower NAND speeds as seen in AnTuTu leaves it half as fast at moving files as the One X. Samsung’s BT implementation is as funky as it’s ever been. The SGS3 had problems connecting and/or reconnecting pretty consistently where my One X never had an issue on the half dozen devices I tried both phones with. Also, A2DP on the SGS3 makes it sound like you’re listening to XM; there’s little separation, crappy range, and music is generally flat whereas A2DP on the One X is the best I've experienced.
As for the other stuff like a non-removable battery, weak multi-tasking and non-expandable storage, it is what it is. If those are hot buttons than the decision's pretty easy on which way to go and all the other stuff becomes secondary.
In case it helps anybody comparing the two phones, here's why I kept the One X instead of getting a SGS3 as I originally had planned.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27663514&postcount=1525
P.S. - My comparison is to the international One X. I haven't even seen an AT&T version and don't know if some of the things I'm highlighting may be different between the two versions.
I just went to the Sprint store to look at the GSIII and was not impressed. I was seriously considering adding a line to my AT&T account so I can get it, but I have no interest in doing that anymore. First off, the color choices are ridiculous. I hate white phones (aside from the HOX which is just smexy) and the the blue really just isn't for me. Where's the black, Sammy??? I think the color, plastic, and overall shape of the phone really just belie the actual power of the thing, and I don't like that one bit. I am a big fan of industrial design, and as far as Galaxy phones are considered I think the Epic 4G Touch was the most attractive of them all. The screen on the GSIII, while having brilliant colors, was instantly recognizable as pentile and that to me is a major, major deal breaker. Compared side by side with the HOX, well... there's just no comparison. The HOX's screen smokes the GSIII's. The UI was incredibly smooth, I will give them that, perhaps even smoother than my HOX running CleanROM (which is ridiculously smooth), but after using Sense 4.0 for a while, I am once again not a fan of Touchwiz (I loved it on my E4GT). I think it too belies the power of the device because of how colorful and toyish it is. The whole thing just screams toyish and is really hard to take seriously as the powerhouse that it actually is. Don't get me wrong, it's a great phone, but I just can't see myself using it. I'm glad I got my HOX and am not jealous of the GSIII in the slightest.
The only thing that is even remotely making me THINK of switching is Developers FLOCK to the Galaxy S phones. They've all been rooted, bootloader lock isn't a problem, and they have source.
I love Android, but not for the stock experience. I like to play, and the SGS III has more to play with, or it least I feel like it will in short order.
Were it not for Scrossler's awesome ROM I'd be rocking a Gnex right now.
I hope to stick with the HOX for a while but if a deal comes up on Craig's list I'll have to seriously consider it.
Pretty fair assessment, thanks for the review. After using the One X for nearly 2 months I exchanged it for the SGS3. The screen is the only thing I am missing, and I miss it a lot!
Makes me VERY excited to know that phones with the total package are just around the corner. That's good news for everyone.
Nice job.

I hate the physical home button with a passion. I hate it more than I like the phone. And for that reason I'm selling it and using my nexus…

These. I like capacitive buttons, and I think they could've done a quad for sure. And I'm starting to like LCD more and more.

If I've helped, please hit the thanks button.
All I need is the exynos quad core processor. Everything else was good enough. The amoled display could've been better but I'm content with it right now.

The main thing Samsung needs to do is drastically improve their build quality. The cheap plastic is just ridiculous on a high-end phone. I have had the volume button fall out 3 times so far. The last time it got lost and I found out the Samsung warranty doesn't cover things like that. I guess they know their phone is going to fall apart and don't want to deal with it. The cost to "repair" the phone to put in a new button is roughly $100 and if you send it to Samsung they say it will take two weeks. I bought a new button on eBay for $3 (plus $6 shipping from Hong Kong), got it in under a week and stuck it in the phone in less than 5 seconds.
I really really like AMOLED displays, so no complaints there.
I really would have preferred to lose the physical home button though. Sadly that is a Galaxy design trademark now. It'll probably be there forever...

This really. I'm pretty content with my phone and I like the AMOLED screen.
And the other complaint as many others is the Plastic. Even if they could of used a better *plastic*. With more firm feel and textile look and feel also. Or they could of gone hella swag and used 7075-T6
But then again, If they go with that, It must be much thinner than the current plastic model, added weight and people will be pissed
I'd say hands down build quality. My battery cover is loose in the corner and my power button is incredibly loose. I'm scared it's just gonna fall out during a soft brick and I won't be able to flash a back up lol

I was disappointed as well when I saw the US version wasn't getting the quad core exynos because I was hoping to get one in my next phone. However, after reviewing the benchmarks comparing the exynos and the snapdragon it shipped with I was less disappointed. The snapdragon was really only bested by the exynos in the GPU department but matched it well for CPU, plus the US variant shipped with twice the RAM which is really nice. I don't really use my phone for gaming so I was able to accept a lesser GPU.
I had concerns about the AMOLED screen and burn in and am bummed that blue ages the fastest and uses the most power because it is my favorite color and love using it for themes. However, I switched to a red theme and am really liking it and have been very pleased with the display.
I agree that the plastic construction does make it feel a little cheap and flimsy and the phone is so thin it felt like it would just snap in half. I got an otterbox case for it which put me much more at ease with handing it and carrying it around everyday and I have to say the added thickness from the case actually makes the phone easier to handle in my opinion.
I would also agree that I would prefer a capacitive home button to the physical one it has. It might just be my phone but pressing the home button has always felt a little sticky or rough. It's hard to explain but it's just never felt very fluid.
An opt out button to further remove myself from Verizon's network
This thread should be "What is Verizon lacking" seeing how our build receives fewer feature updates than Sprint or TModbile.
looking at S4 videos, the only thing i really see as a big improvement is the quad core 1.9ghz processor.. I bet it games a little better.. other then that, 1080p vs 720p doesn't bother me much, 720 still looks great.
The weakness of the phone. Have broken too many screens to count. Never had this much of an issue on any other phone... And BETTER RADIOS!!!!!!!!!!

Strangely, I don't think/feel the plastic is "cheap" at all. Whether it's plastic, metal, or something else, it's going to get covered with a case anyways (for many people).
Better radio. No problems with build quality at all...
Better range in the radio so I don't fall to 3g in my room, when I get 4g just 7 stairs up in the living room. I also wish the aux/headphone sound quality was better. The camera lens being prone to smudges because the lens is extended a smidgen further than the battery case is annoying too. But by far the most annoying thing is the placement of the power key and volume buttons. I wish they were reversed, or atleast the power key was up top so then the flip case and camera controls would be useful.
