Some random APN setting that gave me faster network :) - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I was looking through the forum a month ago???
And read a post about APN modification.
After using this settings for sometime, I liked it because it's FAST!
I would like to share this settings to all

So if I compared right, there's three new items in the "APN Type" list: "admin", "fota" and "internet".
What is the significance of these?

Looks like a typo in the proxy line of your modified settings:
MMS proxy: proxy,mobile.att.net
Shouldn't there be a period between proxy and mobile instead of a comma? :good:

Hey, I know there is a lot of APN setting related posts.
But not many people know about it because some doesn't even know what APN is.
All I'm trying to do is share an APN setting (that gives you a fast connection) that I had no problems while I was using it.
***If someone wants their credit for their hard work, I'm absolutely willing to add their links/names/ID/whatever to give them credit

If so, I think you should read it very carefully.

I tried this and it didn't make any noticeable difference. In fact SpeedTest.net showed slower, but I chalked that up to noise.

The only thing you changed is the apn type. The apn type changes you made don't really change anything, especially not anything that's going to effect lte speed

Ok, maybe it differs depending on the region???
Cause me and all my at&t friends here are experiencing faster speed.
Maybe this is only helpful to regular 4G /3G network, not lte.
Because my area, according to at&t, is not covered by lte.
(that still doesn't explain why I see lte sign with custom rom, hummm)
I'm sorry if this didn't work for you, but on my other threads,
I received positive feed back...

I'm getting the same speeds in Chicago with both the default cm10 apn and the one in the op.

Yeah, been doing this for a while out of superstition and it realistically has no effect. I've looked up the meaning of each APN type and none of them have anything to do with faster speeds

How do I unlock the PTA apn?

Does anyone know how to unlock the PTA apn ?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Idk about "unlocking" but if you want to use the pta apn then:
1) Select Wireless and network in settings
2) Select Mobile networks
3) Select Access Point Names
4) Press the menu button and select New APN
5) Name: ATT pta
APN: pta
MMSC: ht tp://mmsc.mobile.att.net (no space but xda thinks i'm posting a link)
MMS proxy: "proxy.mobile.att.net"
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: Internet + mms
Leave everything else blank.
6) Menu button then save apn. Then select the apn by pressing the empty circle and it'll work.
Enjoy the fast speeds!
PTA is non-functional in some markets for unknown reasons. You need to use AT&T phone or WAP.cingular until it is fixed. They are all equivalent in non LTE markets.
Really? I'm not in a lte market and it works great. That sucks for the areas that pta apn doesn't work.

Neither APNs work for me in LA (an LTE market).
Supposedly the problem is in the radio. AT&T's is locked and won't let you switch.

Even changing radios none of the methods work.
