Noob query - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

I have a noob question:
Is it possible to use your Android phone to CREATE torrent files?
I use tTorrent Pro and have Smart Torrent Pro, both high-dollar torrent clients from tha Play Store and neither have the capability, as far as I can find.
The only thing simple is the belief in simplicity.

Create torrent files ? - you mean you wanna make a .torrent file with tracker list and all (could be possible)
Or upload files to torrent (practically no ! there could be work arounds).
Afaik there are no apps for this i suppose
Sent from a hybrid phablet !

That's what I figured, unless make them on the PC first, transfer to phone the do it...kind asinine though
The only thing simple is the belief in simplicity.

If its for legit torrents, I'm sure there is a webscript(maybe even with a mobile layout) that would let you set up trackers for torrents hosted off a webserver. However if your trying to host tracker files from your phone good luck, probably would require a ubuntu port and a solid wifi connection.
Sent from my XT897 using xda app-developers app

Lol never mind torrent Pro has that exact capability. Ty all. Case CLOSED

Best VNC and RDP apps

Trying to find both because the rest of the family is Windows-only and I for the most part use Macs. I've tried out the open source client and the one with the ads (don't know names off the top of my head) but neither are very speedy. I know it isn't the network either; it does take a bit to load my dual monitor setup over Screen Sharing on my MacBook but not this long!
Any suggestions?
I tried out Remote RDP lite and it's usable in a pinch but the full version would probably be a bit better.
Check out www.logmein.com ... you can sign up for the free version (LogMeIn Free), and add the client on their PC's, and your Mac.
They just released an app in the market named LogMeIn Ignition ... it is very good. I am sure once it leaves beta it will cost a little bit of money, but IMO it is well worth it. Also the clients can always be free. I have well over 400 clients in our companies account, and I can access all the computers from my Evo.
Sweet, I'll definitely try the LogMeIn Ignition beta when I get my EVO tomorrow... Did you have any trouble finding it in the market? I heard others did...

I did when I did toast's root method. I flashed his update rom, and it was back. The stock rom will have no problems finding it.

Best app there is.
LogMeIn was SUPER janky for me.. hiccups, scrolling/zooming isn't smooth..
And refuse to pay for an app to do this, so havent tried that other RDP app.
If you are using standard Remote Desktop protocol with windows, the Remote RDP app in the Market is great. I have the pro version and it does everything I could ever want.
I JUST got my evo today and have not rooted yet.. I went to the market to download the Logmein app (cause i have used their desktop products for years and LOVE them)... and its not there... When you go to their website it says the beta is closed now...
So.. anyone know how i can pull the apk from my Magic?
UPDATE: for anyone in the same situation and you havent rooted yet (cause then titanium backup would be best)... appbrain SHOULD let you reinstall... Am going to try later.
I use XtraLogic's RDP app. Best and only app I have ever bought. Urr... you get the point.
Mod Edit: Removed post Warez and requesting warez is against forum rules first & final warning
I'm trying Remote VNC Pro right now, it seems to be fine but so far i don't know if i can get encryption to work, it only supports either using the VNC server password or the user password for the desktop
Thread closed.
@ OP
No warez (sharing or requesting) allowed. Consider this a first warning.
@op phonemypc, vncviewer, and the $20 remote desktop app on the market are your best choices IMO

[Q] Can't add torrents (Torrent Buddy and Torrent Remote)

I'm having an issue with torrent apps not working properly. I can't add new torrents at all, and I've tried Torrent Buddy and Torrent Remote. (I've also tried using ucontroller, but the setup instructions are unclear so I can't get it to work at all)
Both Torrent Buddy and Torrent Remote work in every way except for adding new torrents. They go through the motions but the torrents never actually get added. I can log in, view my torrents, change status, change file priority, etc with no issues whatsoever.
I've contacted the devs but so far haven't heard back. I think the issue is probably related to either my phone or maybe my network setup (though I can add torrents over the 'net via the utorrent web UI from a PC).
Until a few weeks ago I could add torrents with Torrent Buddy. I don't think I changed anything that might have stopped it working.
Any ideas? I've scoured my phone settings and can't find anything that looks relevant. There is plenty of free space on my phone. I've tried rebooting the phone.
Phone is Samsung Omnia 7 (now on new firmware, but I started having the issue on the original firmware).
EDIT: I should probably add that I am using the paid versions of these apps, not the free demos. I know that Torrent Buddy doesn't allow new torrents in the demo version.
What's unclear about the setup instuctions for uController? If you can open a port for external access to uTorrent, you can do the same for uController.
If you detail exactly where you feel the setup instructions are lacking, I might be able to improve them for you.
I have the same problem, but I think it lies with my private tracker blocking 'mobile' grabbing of torrents.
I see on my PC the 'cookie' for the site and it is very long and have tried adding to the 'cookie' window on my WP7 trophy without success.
Possibly the site can detect mobiles like they can with a hack attack?
tracker im using is galacticcentral.org

If that were to be the problem you would overcome it by using uController as the actual addition is handled PC-side using that app. Also has a live-tile which is nice.

[Q] Few Questions Before I Buy...

I am looking at getting this as a replacement for my old laptop. However, I need to make sure it is capable of doing certain things that I do regularly.
1. I log into my server at home via my wifi connection to copy files from one directory to another (from downloads to tv shows for example).
2. I launch torrent files (legit ones like Pioneer One) for my server to download. at them moment, i click on a torrent file from isohunt or demonoid which sends it to my ubuntu server running transmission to download (fully automatic).
3. I keep checking out webpages like streetfire.net and todaysbigthing.com. Will the videos on these sites play?
4. Google Calendar is a key app I use. How is this with the transformer using the web rather than an app (if available)? I know Google Docs is a no go at the moment (hopefully fixing in 3.1?)
These are the main things (i guess i dont need a lot of power!) i do daily. Will the Transformer cope?

I'll let someone else tackle the rest, but this is one I do regularly. I use Transdroid, a free (but please donate!) Transmission remote to start and monitor torrents on my home server. I have a port open on my firewall for management so I can get the status of my torrents on my phone (nexus one) or Transformer via a desktop widget.
I also have Mediatomb running on the server to share out media from the directory that Transmission downloads to via DLNA. Unfortunately the Transformer has a lot of limitations on video it will play with the built-in DLNA client. When I get off my ass, I'll take advantage of the transcoder support in Mediatomb to automatically convert video files as they arrive in the folder.
Thats fairly key for me. Do you have to download the torrent to the TF first, or can you click the link in browser or firefox for it to automatically do its stuff? Thats how i do it at the moment with a firefox plugin.
1. Phone My PC app is all you'd ever need. Works very well.
4. Loads of apps for this, or yeah if you just want to use the built in honeycomb one or just the browser version they all work nicely. With HC 3.1 the customisable widget should be handy too.

ES File manager can shift files between shared folders, but one of the many different remote desktop solutions is probably easier
2. I launch torrent files (legit ones like Pioneer One) for my server to download. at them moment, i click on a torrent file from isohunt or demonoid which sends it to my ubuntu server running transmission to download (fully automatic).
Transdroid will send the torrent to your server without an issue. you download the .torrent file, and open it in Transdroid. Very easy
3. I keep checking out webpages like streetfire.net and todaysbigthing.com. Will the videos on these sites play?
Can't get either of these sites to play videos

Thanks for that guys! Really appreciate the quick replies.... but i guess little excuse needed to play right?
Can someone tell me if the site http://www.bestofyoutube.com/ works on the TF?
For Number 3, I tried streetfire.net and todaysbigthing.com. They both work great in the stock browser with Flash 10.3. Streetfire takes some time to load though.
Bestofyoutube also works on the TF.

Wifi File Explorer Pro

ok my AK Fire users I have decided to share the golden apple of knowledge... I havent seen any info on this app whilst browsing the fire threads. But I have been using it now for a couple days and I highly recommend it. Not only can I use it for at home to download/upload files to and from my Fire from my PC, but Ive also found out if that if say your mobile out and about and do lots of customization from Android to Android. I found that turning on the wifi hotspot with my G2x then running this app on the g2x that not only can I 1, get data access via the hotspot but also navigate to my phone via the ip address provided and download/upload files that way too!! And visa verse! Truly wireless and baddass! So if you don't have the wifi file explorer app then get it here! its only .99 cents and its the best money you'll spend for your Fire. And btw only for root users of course.

Yes, pretty cool, I transferred a rom from my PC in a couple seconds.
I've been using the free version and it seems to do everything I've wanted it for. It does work great.
is this better than the following apps:
1. file expert
2. es file explorer
3. swiftp
there are many kinds of wifi file sharing in the market, what do you think is the best?
i'll try this wifi file explorer
The app doesn't matter..... Its the connection you use that decides the speed...
I use wifi explorer cuz i paid for it a very long time ago. Airdroid is good too https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sand.airdroid doesnt need root.
I set up a webdav ftp on my computer to eliminate need for thirdparty etc. Dropbox is a beauty
I really like AirDroid a lot.

nice.. that works too.. I was really gearing this towards transferring stuff from my g2x to the fire and vice versa... but ftp is always good too! Also I like the wifi explorer pro or not, because you can copy the apps in the /system folder as well as anywhere else that needs root to browse..

Torrent ROM Downloads

Downloaded CM 7.2 RC1 today and found the torrent they posted. How would people here feel about torrents for ROM's on XDA? Could sure speed up things for people when a new ROM is posted.
With the way upload sites are nowadays, I'm game for anything.
I wouldn't mind either it probably would be a lot faster
Sent from my MyTouch 4G using Tapatalk 2 Beta-2
Im unfamilar with torrents. Do they work similar to on a linux system where you can enter a command and pull from someones github?
I agree, Id like to see some torrents. but from experience, you would probably need to have a good amount of seeders to have good DL speeds

Yes this is true this would only work for the Hot top ROM's and only if people got into the game with it. I do hope some of the Dev's Jump in I would seed all the top ROM's right now with permission if given. This is not to replace the normal download links just to give people more options when sites like hotfile are dog slow or can't be reached.
I would love this. Not sure how to make one though. I use FrostWire (no, I don't download illegal music, don't worry ) for my torrents. They really do help.
Second this, i find torrents much easier expecially when internet/os is shaky. And UTorrent uses soooo much less memory than chrome

wikipedia said:
Simply, a torrent is data about a target file, though it contains no information about the content of the file. The only data that the torrent holds is information about the location of different pieces of the target file. Torrents work by dividing the target file into small information chunks, found on an unlimited number of different hosts. Through this method, torrents are able to download large files quickly. When a client (the recipient of a target file) has initiated a torrent download, the chunks of target file that are needed can be found easily, based on the data from the torrent itself. Once all the chunks are downloaded the client can assemble them into a usable form. Note: the torrent must be completed before it can be assembled into a usable form. This differs from conventional internet downloads which have only one host and are usable even if the file is incomplete.

Hope that helps.
TL;DR: It basically lets you download the ROM faster than a conventional http:// download. You would have to use a torrent program, such as uTorrent or BitTorrent.
Also, to answer your question...no.
Torrent Fu from the market had been rock solid for quite a while. The remote login setting can be extremely can be handy when your on the move.
Here is sone info about the port forward.
