[Q] Can't add torrents (Torrent Buddy and Torrent Remote) - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having an issue with torrent apps not working properly. I can't add new torrents at all, and I've tried Torrent Buddy and Torrent Remote. (I've also tried using ucontroller, but the setup instructions are unclear so I can't get it to work at all)
Both Torrent Buddy and Torrent Remote work in every way except for adding new torrents. They go through the motions but the torrents never actually get added. I can log in, view my torrents, change status, change file priority, etc with no issues whatsoever.
I've contacted the devs but so far haven't heard back. I think the issue is probably related to either my phone or maybe my network setup (though I can add torrents over the 'net via the utorrent web UI from a PC).
Until a few weeks ago I could add torrents with Torrent Buddy. I don't think I changed anything that might have stopped it working.
Any ideas? I've scoured my phone settings and can't find anything that looks relevant. There is plenty of free space on my phone. I've tried rebooting the phone.
Phone is Samsung Omnia 7 (now on new firmware, but I started having the issue on the original firmware).
EDIT: I should probably add that I am using the paid versions of these apps, not the free demos. I know that Torrent Buddy doesn't allow new torrents in the demo version.

What's unclear about the setup instuctions for uController? If you can open a port for external access to uTorrent, you can do the same for uController.
If you detail exactly where you feel the setup instructions are lacking, I might be able to improve them for you.

I have the same problem, but I think it lies with my private tracker blocking 'mobile' grabbing of torrents.
I see on my PC the 'cookie' for the site and it is very long and have tried adding to the 'cookie' window on my WP7 trophy without success.
Possibly the site can detect mobiles like they can with a hack attack?
tracker im using is galacticcentral.org

If that were to be the problem you would overcome it by using uController as the actual addition is handled PC-side using that app. Also has a live-tile which is nice.

Blackboard Application

I'm looking for a Blackboard Application for Android (obviously). If you don't know what the program is here is a link. It's used for class work at a lot of colleges. There is a mobile app available for iPhone and I believe one is in development for Blackberry.
http://www.blackboard.com/
I previously have worked with Blackboard as both a student and an instructor. Aside from the fact that Blackboard, eLearning, WebCT, etc are all crappy tools, I believe their API for access is completely closed off so developing an Android app relies mostly on Blackboard's end to develop it.
I know it's not the answer you're looking for, but there are other tools on the web like Blackboard that provide your own private course set up to keep track of your documents for class, etc. If you just keep on top of what's being uploaded for Bloackboard then you can keep a pretty nice management suite for all of your coursework, but it obviously won't be up to date with what your teacher uploads.
I hope you find something that works, cause I've looked into this myself. Let me know if you have any luck.
If I recall, blackboard is basically implemented as a website.
That being the case, just point your browser at it and be done.

Yes I figured as much. I wrote blackboard on the situation and I've not received a response and I don't think that I should. I had heard however that certain rooted Android based phones are able to run iPhone apps. I don't know if thats because of developers converting the apps or there is actually an emulator available.

That was my initial attempt actually. Their are various plugins with the site that make that complicated. The website rejects logins from mobiles. I actually have trouble accessing the website unless I'm using either Firefox or IE.

You sure about it rejecting mobile sites? I do remember accessing the site via Opera Moblie 9.5 beta(when it was just leaked) on my WM phone and via Opera Mini 4 with out an issue.

Yes it actually has to do with the school. While Blackboard is run via a website that website is administered by the school. The school I go to blocks all connections from cell phones for some reason. I've spoken to the IT support guys but they don't seem to care about working with me. I'm transferring schools next semester so hopefully I won't have to worry about it after that.
Im not positive, but i am pretty sure i have accessed blackboard with my mytouch. i am running CM 4.2.8 and enochx. what you have to do is go into the browser and go into settings, there is an option called mobile web settings and in there you can choose desktop and it makes you phone like a regular browser. thats what worked for me, hope it works for you too.
Works on Dolphin for me, check my grades there often.
I have also been able to access blackboard just fine on the default browser and Dolphin Browser.
A stand alone app would be cool, but would require alot of work and possibly authentication from the school? which would not happen
I use blackboard with my g1 browser quite often. I cannot say that there are no problems, but can that ever be said in regards to blackboard?
as a student I've used Blackboard, WebCT and Moodle..and i gotta say I found Moodle to be the coolest (and as I recall it's open source).
Anyway, if your school blocks connection from mobile phones, you can use the Dolphin Browser (or the default one if it's modded) and change the user-agent to Desktop instead of Android. Maybe that would work?
Bb on G1
It's always been a bucket of headaches, but i can confirm that perseverance pays off. The main issue is endless loop/failure on trying to login. My most reliable way around this is by accessing my school's main student portal page first and after logging in there, using the Blackboard course link. Kind of a backdoor in but if your school provides that sort of portal, it's worth a shot. Also FYI, when I had a BlackBerry I never had any luck with stock browser, but Opera always worked. Good luck, hope this helped.
so apparently there is a Sprint only Blackboard app out now for Android phones, does anyone know why it's only for Sprint phones or if it'll ever be a standard market app?
YES!! my school has quite a bit of trouble working blackboard, and there are always issues getting students into class, allowing them to see the class shell etc... And on dolphin I can check it, but sometimes it would block me. This app is extremely needed. Sucks its only on sprint....but I'm glad i got a sprint hero!
I am desperately trying to find this app so I cant install it on my phone even though i am with T-mobile.

Why doesn't someone just use skyfire, let's you fool a page that you're a desktop and not a phone.

[APP] X-Link - Zero Setup File Transfer

The app I would like to present is called X-Link and is intended to make file transfers between devices (Android or PC) easy.
It's using multicasts to find other clients within the same WiFi network.
So no setup ist needed.
In addition to the Android app there is also a Java based PC client available.
This client has been tested on Linux and Windows but might work on other configurations.
The full description and a short video can be found on the Android Market page:
https://market.android.com/details?id=de.fun2code.android.xlink
You can not only transfer files between PC and Android but also between Android devices.
This is beta software, so there are still bugs.
Please report them in this thread. I'll have a look as soon as I find time and will contact some of you to get things fixed.
There are surely some timing (and timeout) problems which need some attention.
Make sure your router supports multicasts.
Please post comments, I'll try to read them all
Link to PC client
http://www.fun2code.de/downloads/xlink/XLinkClient.jar
Copying of directories
Supported since 0.8.4 beta.
Testing and how you can help
Multicast test
To test if your network is able to deal with multicast messages you can do the following test:
1. Download the file MulticastSender.jar and MulticastReceiver.jar.
2. On one PC start the MulticastSender.jar and on another the MulticastReceiver.jar.
The sender sends screenshots. If you see the screenshots on the receiver's side, multicasts are working for you.
If not, X-Link will not work.
If this works but X-Link doesn't it's likely that there is a problem concerning timeouts within X-Link.
In this case, please send me a mail (xlink [at] fun2code.de).
If sharing on Android does not work
Sharing does not seem to be working in some apps.
If you encounter such a problem, please download the app XLinkDebug.apk and install it.
Use sharing as you normally would with X-Link but select X-Link Debug instead.
On execution the app will copy the information needed for me to fix the issue to the clipboard.
Please paste the clipboard into a mail ans send it to the following address: xlink [at] fun2code.de

Was your phone on a WiFi network?
obviously, yes it is
The devices have to be connected to the same WiFi network and the network has to support multicasts (which usually should be the case).
If you are on a weak WiFi signal it might take more than one try to find other devices.
My test devices are:
Galaxy Nexus, Nexus One and Notion Ink Adam
i really do not have knowledge about the Multicast thing, but my Wifi Signal is good. And i used SAMBA and other wifi file sharing apps and they all worked using the same wifi.
And clicked RELOAD many times but i cant see any device in the popdown menu..
Hm ... so this seems not to work on your network
Multicast is different from TCP connections, so this can't be compared.
Wow, it actually worked in HTC Desire!! Great app!! Now I can transfer files w/o any cables!! Need sometime to allow 2 devices to connect though..
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I don't know anything about Multicast, but my Mac is on the same Wifi network as my Galaxy Nexus, and the Mac couldn't see the Nexus. I tried "Reload" several times.
Works on Windows 7 64-bit and a Galaxy Nexus. Cool app, really like it!
My only suggestions would either be to get rid of the menu and put it all in the "drag file here" area, or maybe some slightly simpler graphics. They come off a little cheesy.
Other than that, it works well.
Next steps would be to keep app closed, but still have access to dropping files. Root access? I'm not sure how it would work.
App and client work seamlessly with windows 7 and tmo sgsII.
Only thing I notice is inability to share pics directly from my phone's gallery. I use my file explorer and it works fine.
Amazing work. Coffee money on the way
So this is like airdroid but rather than the file browser/tools being built into the web address there's a desktop client?

Hello There,
Using Windows8, DHD and TF101. My PC had no problem seeing the items on my network Alas, every time I tried to swap a file over I just kept getting a pop message telling me there was an upload error. Thanks.
Pity because it was something I had been looking for :-(
Worked perfectly on Macbook running Lion and galaxy nexus
awesome app!
amazing app and super simple to use/set up, great stuff dude =D

Make sure you have x-link at the front of your screen (on your phone) seems it disappears after being inactive and you'll get the upload error problem. I am of course speaking from experience as I just fought with that, bringing x-link back to the front seemed to solve it.
Thanks to all of you for testing!
The X-Link app has to be active on the Android device to be visible to others and for the transfer to work.
If you close the app during data transfer, the transfer will break.
I'm glad that it worked for some of you. I'll do some debugging next week.
Hope things will improve...
For does of you having problems seeing other devices.
You can do the following test.
Run the PC client from console: java -jar XLinkClient.jar
Then try to detect you PC from the Android device.
You should see an output similar to this on the console:
Connecting: 192.168.0.198/4500
If an Exception occurs there was a problem when connecting back to the Android device.
If no output is visible, it's likely that multicasts are not working within your network.
Might help newer users who want to try out your app if you put a download link on your web site or here in this thread. I found your app through xda article and didn't realize that I had to type the link out verbatim with 'XLinkClient.jar' having correct capitalization lol. Took me a minute to figure out, so newer people might just give up without trying it. Just fyi ;-)
Great app, thanks for your work! Working on Mac running Lion and Droid 3.
Working great on Windows 8 Consumer preview and LG Optimus 2X. If i had a job right now, i would send you money for a beer, but i dont have a job at the moment, so a cant. Thanks.

[APP] ClipSync: easiest way to copy paste text between devices.

I noticed there are some questions on this forum that relate to copying text between phones and PC's.
I'm an independent developer and have written a free app that does just that. It runs as a service on both windows and android. It works over LAN. And it allows you to do 2 things:
1. You can copy text from android to your PC by simply copying some text in android (Long press -> copy) and then pasting it in Windows (CTRL+V or right click -> paste)
2. You can copy text from PC to android by simply copying some text in Windows (CTRL+C or right click -> copy) and then pasting it in Android (long press -> paste)
It's really that simple. Here's a quick demonstration of me showing you how it works:
Wondering why you would need this?
Have you ever wanted to copy paste a URL from your android device to your PC to look at it on a bigger screen? Ever wanted to send a text message by typing it on your PC? Ever looked up a route description on your computer and realize you had to type in the exact same address in your GPS client? Did you ever e-mail yourself because you needed some text on another device?
No? Well then you probably don't need it at all. Sorry to have wasted your time
If you do think the app is useful you can get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.bdwm.clipsync
The Windows server is available at http://bdwm.be/cs
Hope you like it.

Like what I'm searching for a long a long time
Thank you so so much
Mutiple network addresses
Works a treat! Very simple to set up and use.
One wee problem I encountered though: where I'm at just now my PC has multiple network connections open: LAN and VPN. When the ClipSync server started up it was listening to the VPN address which ison an entirely different subnet to the LAN connection. So my Nexus, which was connected on the LAN subnet, couldn't find the server. When I disabled the VPN connection the server switched over automagically to listen on the LAN address and was found straight away by the Android app. A way to specify which IP address the server listens on would be great in this instance.
Another concern is using this in a multi-android environment e.g. at work the standard issue phone is a Galaxy Nexus so there's quite a few conected to the LAN at any one time. What's to stop someone installing the app and connecting to another users ClipSync server and getting / setting the contents of their clipboard? I'm being picky I know, but it's something I had to work around when writing a webOS app many moons ago that would use mDNS to broadcast stuff across a network. Setting a PIN on each client and using that to encrypt / decrypt broadcasts was where I ended up for that FWIW.
Also, if the server restarts, clients don't reconnect until you go into the app and manually reconnect.
I've just tried copying something on my Nexus 7 and it synced, not only to the server, but to my GNex as well Shutting down the server, unsurprisingly, stopped that particular magic from happening *sadpanda*. A feature request would most certainly be to allow clients to sync with each other without the need for a server to be running at all. You hate me, I know I've no idea what the mDNS capabilities of Android are but that would be one way of doing it.
All that said, this is a fantastic start to something extremely useful! So thank you very much for making the magic happen :good: and apologies for the rather rambling post
Northernmost, thank you for this post. Seems like you have really thoroughly tested the app. I really appreciate that. I'm aware of most of the issues you mentioned and I have just moved them up in my TODO list. Will be working on it this weekend and next week.
One thing I wasn't aware of yet was the problem that your PC can indeed have multiple IP-addresses.
This will be solved in the next version of ClipSync Server. Thanks again for your great feedback and your support
I wouldn't say I've thoroughly tested it... but I have been playing with it some more. Namely, I've been aiming at having the server program running on my home server (with a static IP so it's easy to find) and the clients connecting to it. Then having assorted desktops and servers sync their clipboards to the ClipSync server. The aim is to have all my devices keeping their clipboards in sync.
After forwarding the right port I could connect and sync clipboards between Android devices over any net connection rather than just a LAN one But the connection gets lost quite often (which is probably down to connectivity issues rather than the app itself) and you have to reconnect each device manually... which will get old real quick. Again, not the fault of ClipSync!
Then, using a program called Copycat to sync clipboards between various PCs (including the master ClipSync server) you end up with everything sharing the same clipboard automatically! Huzzah. Or that's what should be happening... but it looks like Copycat can get itself in a muddle and play clipboard changing loop-de-loop. There's a few other network clipboard syncing programs out there to try yet so hopefully I'll get that all ticking along nicely. Anyway, I'm rambling (again) :silly: but looking forward to where this all goes!
GREAT!!!
Just some days ago, i thought, that it would be a great feature, if i could copy and paste between my PC and my Phone.
Brilliant!

Hey well done. This is a simple and handy app that should have been integrated in Android frol the begining. Of you can patent the technology vecause I'm sure Apple will include this feature in a future release of iOS and call it revolutionary
Microsoft should at least have done this in Wubdows Phone since it runs on the same kernel.
Btw mooi dat iemand van Gent in het nieuws komt haha !

Some more feedback:
The app could use a tray icon on the Android
Missing security settings, how can I know that another computer/phone doesn't use ClipSync in my network?
That seems like a very nice tool. Some nice features would be:
A manual sync mode. You (double/right/don't know) click on the tray icon and you send or receive the clipboard. The same on the phone, maybe the actionable notifications on jb also works with tray icons.
A keyboard extension. You open a tool and use your computer keyboard to type on your phone, like a bt keyboard.
Amazing!
The best app on the planet period!:good::laugh: exactly what i was looking for but never thought it could be that easy or even possible.. cheers!
congrats!
Great app! I was searching a lot for a such solution and I have found it in Airdroid and get used to it. Will see if ClipSync could convert me.

Torrents apps are not working.

Ive tried top 4 torrent apps from the market, and i have same exact issue with all of them. No torrent will start downloading. Same torrents work fine on my PC using same wifi at the house, but not on the tablet.
On tablet is shows 0 seeds, 0 peers, 0 trackers, 0 everything, ...yet it states that its downloading, or trying to download, and it shows the size of file.
I have gone through all the app settings and i cant figure out what im missing. Currently im using ATorrent Pro.
Internet on the tablet works fine, google store works fine, games that need internet access work fine, maps, etc etc.
Help.
Thanks in advance.

I'm able download same exact torrent on my PC and laptop.
Yeah but most mobile clients won't have the same version string as their desktop counterparts. Are you absolutely sure the mobile client version is in their allowed list?
Also a quick search revealed lots of people having the same problem with random devices. I would check every client's forums/faq/support to see if they can provide further insight.
I got it working.
For some reason, HotSpot Shield app has to be completely closed and not just turned off (disconnected), then torrents work.

Some kind of chrome malware -how to remove?

Hey there ,
my office computer got infected with some sort of adware evil thing ,
Once or twice a day , when browsing to a website (no matter which) I get an iFrame with an overlay saying : "sponsored by [url I'm browsing to] and then it redirects me to some kind of an full page ad for some sort of naughty online gaming (I forgot the name but next time it happens I'll update here).
Anyway , this is the iframe html :
HTML:
<div class="asgds_content"><div class="asgds_header"><button class="asgds_close">x</button><h4 class="asgds_title">Sponsored by google.com </h4></div><div class="asgds_body"><iframe src="https://extsgo.com/view/teasers?id=191753" style="height: 873px; width: 100%;"></iframe></div><div class="asgds_footer"><button class="asgds_close_text">Close</button></div></div>
searching google for extsgo.com/view/teasers gives me nothing...
using chrome 53.0.2785.143 m on Windows 8.1
Who can help me with removing this stupid thing?
Thanks a lot.
Full Screen Flash might be the culprit?
I've had the same problem. I noticed when I uninstalled Full Screen Flash that it redirected me to extsgo.com as well... given some of the reviews intermittently complaining of advertising redirects, I think it's a distinctly possible culprit. Do you have that extension installed?
For what it's worth, this happened on both my home and work machines and Chrome is the only thing really shared between them. Home has MalwareBytes and McAfee, work has Trend Micro. No malware hits on either end, so I'm quite certain that some Chrome extension or another is responsible.
i had full screen flash shut it off and it solved the problem
well ,
it must be something else , since I never heard about this chrome extension...
Would appreciate more ideas about this issue.
Thanks
Hey ,
I think I got the name of this adware , it's called adnow , any reliable removal tool / guide?
Thanks
Me too
I have managed to end up with this thing too. I've seen it injected into both a site I'm hosting locally and sites across the web (both in Chrome; not seeing it injected when I'm in Firefox). I did not notice it until recently, as I typically use EFF's Privacy Badger, which blocks the actual injection script from loading. I've seen it block requests to extsgo.com and st.adxxx.com, neither of which is related to the local build of the project I'm working on where I see it injected.
It's definitely something (presumably an extension) that is getting synced via Chrome sync as I've noticed it in a Windows 10 installation on one machine and within a Linux VM inside a Windows 7 host OS on a different machine. All software fully up to date.
I see nothing I'm not expecting in terms of extensions and I do not have the "Full screen Flash" extension. Windows Defender has not found anything on the Win 10 install, nor on the Windows 7 one.
Is it perhaps another extension that got hijacked? I know sometimes developers sell extensions and malware makers acquire them for the instantly-installed userbase. Everything in the Chrome Web Store is supposedly scanned, of course, so who knows.
Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks!

Insert jQuery (not including link; you'll know if you have it) appears to have been the culprit extension. The behaviour I was seeing is consistent with this description: gist.github.com/jimbo1qaz/bc73a2491f0c39b7f206359f089dd79c complete with the redirection to a shady fake magazine URL when I uninstalled Insert jQuery, the issues went away. So this is consistent with a rash of extensions getting updated with updates that include new malware. I originally intended to install that extension....several years ago. I've been using it occasionally ever since.
(My) case closed.
This just happened to me as well. Exactly once on my work computer, then once on my home computer a few hours later, different sites. Both chrome, but different accounts and mostly different extensions. I'll compare extension lists and post the common ones when I get back to my work computer tomorrow. But I don't have either of the mentioned extensions installed.
This thread was the only google result for the url.
Edit: googling the id of the modal div, "asgds_modal", leads to a reddit thread with a few people complaining. They pointed out two new extensions, "http headers" and "w3schools hider". I'm guessing my culprit is the http headers one, as it is on both my computers.
I figured it out.
Live HTTP Headers extension is the culprit. A couple of days ago I checked that it was giving a 404 error for the JS script it was requesting from an AWS server. I thought some one would buy it. And the same thing happened I guess. The chrome web store page is not working for that extension. Most probably because it is removed. But, you people should uninstall that from your chrome browsers.

it's happen to me only on chrome in different sites, i get this "sponsored by adnow" ads
and i'm not sure what to do, it's on the exact same place where outbrain or taboola show their ads, and its cover it.
i think but not sure that the div id is sc_tblock_319318 and from what i understand it's block the original ad(by outbrain in this case and then it recreate a new one
