I had this problem with my MZ604 as well when viewing available space under [Settings->Storage] but command line tools and OIFileManager reported the correct space available.
I say press on and please report back and let me know how it goes -- this may be an (un)known bug, and we may or not be seeing the same issue.
How are you viewing available space?
Which Recovery are you using?
system storage
I used system info pro. The overall storage info is correct. But the system storage where the system operating sys is only shows 236mb avaliable and 5.52 mb free. I just backup my personal data to google.
Thanks
Look harder its there in the stickies, but I'll be nice. More or less the only root method. Your entire storage on your tablet will be wiped but any root method require this. Unlocking the bootloader wipes all storage.

Hi, I'm writing because nor the xda search nor google could pinpoint if a thread for this on our sgs4g existed.
I want to know if anyone has tried resizing the default partition sizes, or if it is even possible. I remember on my memory-starved HTC Hero this would be the only way to install apps comfortably without a2sd.
Maybe putting the /system partition on a diet and getting of nonessential apps would give us a few megabytes on the /data partition.
I'm a little oblivious to the situation, not being a dev, but just a curiosity.
Thanks in advance.

me and krylon already researched this actually by lowering the cache size and extending it to the data parttion we had the phone up to 1.3 gb of storage the issue lies in resizing the parttion requires you to modifiy it and flash customized bootloaders as the parttion info is stored in the sbl and boot files. It can be done however if you need to odin back without a changed pitt file you run into a host of issues
Ah, this would get a lot of people bricked if ever they would try to odin back to stock..
Might cause more problems than solve right now..
Good to know it isn't impossible, thanks

Is there any other option without rooting your device?
If you do not wish to root your device then your only option will be to start deleting stuff to make more room.

I have this very same problem but it's nothing I have installed. I get the 'No free space on storage, click here to free some room' and then it shows me whats taking so much space, its only apps in this list, and that is ~80MB out of 3.9GB.
I used a rootexplorer to look around in the phone for some weird cache but found nothing. Nothing.
Please help, it even tells me I cannot receive any text messages.
Oh and..
Rooting is not an option since it's not my phone (borrowing it for.. probably a while..).
Wiping is not an option either.. :/
Any good apps for searching for weird stuff like this?
Thanks in advance.
Hi all-
My GS3 internal storage is filling up. When I check with DiskUsage, it says there's 7230 MiB of "System data" and only 1250 MiB of free space. It won't let me click onto the system data to investigate.
Using Storage Analyser, it says I have used 2.2 GiBs and 9.84 GiB is free. But when I click on the little circle chart menu at the bottom it says I only have 1.2 GiBs free. What gives? Which one is right? Will wiping via CWM and reflashing CM 10.2 help? Anyone else have this problem? Thanks!
Do you have a lot of nandriod or Rom backups?

I only have this issue with the system/data folder filling up with duplicate apps. Seems like something just isn't quite right however. After I wipe everything and before I flash a rom I have 12gb available. Just checked and out of 16gb total I have 9.96gb still available. The backups shouldn't be on the internal but if by chance they are I would delete all if not most of them

You're simply having duplicate locations for media storage.
If you use a file Explorer, you'll notice the initial location of your files in data/media folder. Then if you click the 0 folder (data/media/0) you'll notice the exact same data is located there.
To get rid of it, you need to move everything you want to save off the phone, format the internal sd, reflash the rom, and move everything you backed up to the data/media/0 folder.
It switched when you moved from 4.1 to 4.3. It's actually reading the same data but twice. So you actually have a lot of space free, but your phone is reporting double the data.

Ok I'm having the same problem but im running astral and I was wondering will this work for me also. And how do . I go about formatting the internal sd? And why doesn't myn phone use my sd card at all to save files

I'm really sick of this problem. My phone is again alerting me that my internal storage is filling up, Disk Usage is showing system data of 7.266 GBs and 650 MB of free space. When going into the root folder "/system" it shows 10.36 GBs of free space. I figure its either getting read wrong of something.
Anyway, what would happen if I did "format /data" in CWM? Would I be able to boot back into my rom with a clean slate, or would I have to immediately flash a new ROM? Thanks.

You'd still be able to boot into the same rom. It might not clear it though, to do a full format you need to wipe /data/media.

I just got an atrix 2 running jb (stock leak 3). I want to dual boot it with cm11 but have some questions that I would like to have answered before I mess up with my phone.
I have installed bmm from play store.
In recovery I took a backup of cid but I dont know where its saved so first I'd like to copy it to SD card and by what name it's saved.
Second thing I want to know is that can I install ROM on first partition ? Because I read that I should keep 1st n 2nd partition for system.
And while partitioning sys4 I saw that minimum space for cache is 300 mb but I want it 50mb. How to reduce it?
the amount of data I give for 4th system will be reduced from 8gb of ROM? Because I currently have 5.x GB and 4 will be less for me so can't we install ROM on 1st or share data partition between 2.
And is there something else I need to take care of before I start?
Thanks in advance.
PS I've googled before posting these and have been familiar with an android before.

1. Cid backup can found here /sdcard/clockworkmod/firmwar...keep this copy in your computer just in case u format sdcard.
2. U can install ROM in system1..but just make sure after installing ROM and gapps...in bmm menu select system keeper and install bmm.
3. To my knowledge I guess 300mb is least apace for cache.

By system keeper do you mean selecting it as default boot partition? And I guess we can also do it afterwards by going into bmm again if not having bmm will still give us that android logo on boot.
Will cache also be used for data partition?
Thanks for fast reply

No...to install custom ROM (cm11) in system1...first u have to formats system data cache of sysytem1 in bmm..then u will install ROM gaps...so bmm will be deleted, then bmm tries to install itself by force ..but to be in safer side just install bmm in system keeper.

I'm running out of space of phone memory. I've moved all the movable apps to internal storage but the notification keeps coming. And the calculation of space in phone storage doesn't seem correct. Please help me solve this issue.

If u have custom recovery u can try to delete dalvik catche
and try to use CLEAN MASTER , it useful if you rooted your rom
*** iF YOU HAVE ROOT ROM YOU CAN TRY LINK2SD APK TO MOVE YOUR APP TO SD CARD PARTITIONED *****
I have the very same problem. I could not find any solution that does not require root access. And I can't root the device since it is not mine. :/ Can anyone help out? I tried many different cleaning programs and I also tried this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-l/general/how-to-solve-memory-leak-problem-xperia-t2488573 but none of this works. I can free storage from internal storage but not from device memory.
delete some apps/data
