Hi all-
My GS3 internal storage is filling up. When I check with DiskUsage, it says there's 7230 MiB of "System data" and only 1250 MiB of free space. It won't let me click onto the system data to investigate.
Using Storage Analyser, it says I have used 2.2 GiBs and 9.84 GiB is free. But when I click on the little circle chart menu at the bottom it says I only have 1.2 GiBs free. What gives? Which one is right? Will wiping via CWM and reflashing CM 10.2 help? Anyone else have this problem? Thanks!
Do you have a lot of nandriod or Rom backups?

I only have this issue with the system/data folder filling up with duplicate apps. Seems like something just isn't quite right however. After I wipe everything and before I flash a rom I have 12gb available. Just checked and out of 16gb total I have 9.96gb still available. The backups shouldn't be on the internal but if by chance they are I would delete all if not most of them

You're simply having duplicate locations for media storage.
If you use a file Explorer, you'll notice the initial location of your files in data/media folder. Then if you click the 0 folder (data/media/0) you'll notice the exact same data is located there.
To get rid of it, you need to move everything you want to save off the phone, format the internal sd, reflash the rom, and move everything you backed up to the data/media/0 folder.
It switched when you moved from 4.1 to 4.3. It's actually reading the same data but twice. So you actually have a lot of space free, but your phone is reporting double the data.

Ok I'm having the same problem but im running astral and I was wondering will this work for me also. And how do . I go about formatting the internal sd? And why doesn't myn phone use my sd card at all to save files

I'm really sick of this problem. My phone is again alerting me that my internal storage is filling up, Disk Usage is showing system data of 7.266 GBs and 650 MB of free space. When going into the root folder "/system" it shows 10.36 GBs of free space. I figure its either getting read wrong of something.
Anyway, what would happen if I did "format /data" in CWM? Would I be able to boot back into my rom with a clean slate, or would I have to immediately flash a new ROM? Thanks.

You'd still be able to boot into the same rom. It might not clear it though, to do a full format you need to wipe /data/media.

Hi guys,
This is my first thread in here so I apologize in advance for the noob question.
Ok, like the topic says I have completely run out of space on the phones rom. I keep getting the memory warning pop-up followed by the red SD card graphic.
My phone is rooted and all my apps were moved on the SD Card through Titanium Backup. I have even removed a few bloatware programs.
I have only 50 mb left and no apps will update unless they're a small file size. All I keep getting is the stupid red triangle.
Anything I can do to clear some space?
I have read the countless threads about the memory issues on this phone, but nothing was really specifically mentioned with my problem.
Thanks again for the help!

In Titanium Backup clear the Davilik (sp) cache on the phone that may free up some space. After removing a bunch of bloat and moving things to the card I freed up 40 or so megs internally to give me 133 free right now.
The author of this is correct.
I experienced it last night. I removed some apps and cleared some space.
It's ridiculous. The warning only starts when you have less than 50mb of space left. I tried to install a 700kb app and it failed.... Insufficient space.
REALLY? What is the 50mb for then? Swap?
Thanks guys for the response!
I have tried clearing the Dalvik Cache but there isn't anything to clear.
It has me stumpted. When I bought the phone I had a little more space available. Now, even with every app on the sd card, and bloat ware deleted, I'm out of space. Odd as hell.
What does everyone have for available space? I'm at 40.5 mb right now.

After zero-byte-ing the two fota files and moving a lot of stuff user-installed apps to the SD card using the pm setInstallLocation trick, I'm at 214/514 MB used, with 301 MB free (stock ROM).
Ok, so far for an update:
I've downloaded aCCleaner attempting to clean up some cache. Before the clean I had 45.8 mb free. After the clean I had 46.8 mb free. 1 whoping mb was cleared. So, it cannot be program cache hogging up my precious mb's.
I'm running out of ideas.
To the user above, I have all my programs installed on the SD card already. It doesn't seem like that 0 trick does anything other than allow the apps to be installed on an SD card without root access. So it wouldn't be beneficial to me
I'm still confused about this. Technically, with all my apps on the SD card and program cache cleared, shouldn't my available mb's be very similar to stock levels? Granted the only thing taking up space should be text messages and my gmail in boxes.
WTF. Frustrating. Tired of looking at the red triangles and red sd card.

I dunno how the heck you don't have anymore memory left. But if your really wanted to get that space back. I suggest using Odin and flashing aloneinshadow's Deodexed KB5 Enhanced v2.0 OR download the "fota.zip and extract the files and use root explorer and moving the 2 files and replacing the 2 fota files in the data/fota directory. You'll get about 300mb back.
Here's the link to the fota.zip file and also the TAR for flashing the stock ROM minus the bloat. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12153961&postcount=1
You can also reinstall the bloatware you want afterwards.
Here is the guide on how to use Odin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001759
Yeah man idk what you're doing.. the fota trick leaves me with 379mb of free space...

I'm going to have to try that fota trick. Before I do that I'm going to try to explore the main directory and make sure all the programs are in fact on the SD card.

I just flashed to the custom rom listed above (worked perfect), also put fota files in /data/fota on sd card. After all is said and done, I lost TouchWiz, (which I love) and my memory is still at 53 mb! It kept all my apps and data, which I was surprised... but I did this only to free up internal memory. Did I do anything wrong or any guesses as to why my memory is still so low? Thans.
Got TouchWiz back (just had to choose that default instead of launcher duh) and now memory has gone up to 109 mb free, which is better, but still I was looking for 200+...
Here is my newest issue- two things I absolutely loved on the S4G were Program Monitor and Task Manager. Both are now gone (must have gone away with the bloatware). In Titanium Backup the two (along with all the other bloatware) are listed, but with a line through them. There is no way to restore these backups with lines through them. My second thought was to simply reinstall the apk, but when I do this all the phone says is 'Application Cannot Be Installed'. Any ideas on how to get these back? Thanks.

search in the development section for "fota fix", or look for the app in the market.
Please take a look at the attached screen shot where it shows that the information I have on my phone only takes up about half of the internal storage, yet I only have 511MB available. Can someone please help me find out where my internal storage went?
I am running CyanogenMod 10 on my SG3. Before this I ran all of the Experimental M builds and before that I ran several different nightlies.
Update:
I can't tell if my screenshot is working. I will type out what I see when I go to settings, storage:
Internal Storage:
Total Space
12.05GB
- Apps 3.03GB
- Pictures, videos 635MB
- Audio 22KB
- Downloads 97.64MB
- Available 510MB
Thre is also a graph of which more than half is dark gray representing Available.

Accidentally saved some CWM backups to internal SD. Deleted them through CWM, but still shows 4.4GB in CWM folder. Also have several weird folders, USBDriveA-F, dated the same as CWM backups. Running Jelly Beans build 6. noob, so any help is very much appreciated.
Shouldn't your Total Space list 16 GB though?
I have the 32 GB model, and I just checked mine, and it says I have exactly 32 GB of Total Space.

Go back into cwm and clear unused backup data in the backup menu, should clear up a little room. They do take up a lot of space though, they will take roughly 1.2 gb per backup. Also, i have those folders too. Not sure why, but they don't take y space, do they yours?

That perfect sense, and actually that is what I would expect. I was surprised when I saw mine reading "32.00 GB" Total Space. I thought it was going to read 27 or 28 GB or something like that.
Attached a screenshot. Maybe my phone is just including the system partition files in the Miscellaneous category or something?
I tried deleting backups from CWM, but the blobs folder was still 4GB. Is there a way to delete blobs folder contents through CWM? After flashing TOB 4.5, knew I wasn't going back so I deleted the contents of the blobs folder from file manager :good: My usbdrive folders are empty too, just wondering if that was normal.
Hi, I'm running eos4 nightly #102 with kat 96. I've got a 16gb Asus tf101 and I'm running out of internal space. I've seen on the forum about the 0 folder, but I don't seem to have multiple copies of it. When I check the details of the internal sd folder it tells me it's 6.22gb in size. Yet when check the settings - storage it says I've used 11gb with 1.5gb spare.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks

It tells me I have system data 4425mib.
Is that what the rom is taking up?

It is most likely a game or some files on the /data/ partition.
/data/media/ is your /sdcard/. Some files are also kept on the /data/ partition. Not exactly sure which ones, but I know some are.
It's weird I only have an empty /data/ folder and no data/media. Any other suggestions?
Many Thanks

I haven't a clue which files may be the culprits.
If I backup, using twrp, then can I wipe everything and then reinstall?
Any help would be much appreciated.
I got it sorted. I backed up the internal memory, then booted to twrp, formated the internal memory, wiped everything. Then I started from scratch installing the rom. I then reinstalled all my apps and now I have 8gb of space, fantastic.
It took a bit of time but worth it in the end.
Many Thanks
Cool, glad it is sorted.
Total space says 12.05 and when I add up what it shows me in storage it adds up to 2 gb used
I also plugged in my phone to Computer and it added to the same and I didn't see any hidden folders

Most likely you have double of the same space of your contents, might want to check all your folders and navigate to your 0 folder or your original touchwiz folder.

Make sure you have everything backed up... pics and stuff. Reboot into recovery, format data. I just had to do it, for the same reason. Just remember to format all. No need to reroot.

The 12.05 is right. That's what a 16 GB hard drive is after a format. As for the low Available space how many Nandroids do u have,?

I don't have any on the internal storage. I'm so confused because I can't figure out where the space is coming from. I've moved all my pictures, backups, and downloads to the external SD card.
Time to nandroid, wipe, and clean install, then restore what you want from nandroid. (Any app that you don't need data for , don't restore it. imo
Check what it looks like after clean install and then again after restore. Apps like Play Store and others can have alot of stuff in cache folders, you might want to chech out something like all-in-one toolbox to clean you cache and see what it says. Good luck, I'm a flash-a-holic so I nand & wipe all the time. Last time I stayed on a rom for a week I cleaned cache and it was 3 or 4 gig.

Download es file manager and do the SD card analyze. That will show you what folders/files are eating up your space. It could just be a bug in the setup menu.
