I've tried flashing jac0bs kernel and both the normal and novc rohan kernels and to keep things simple lets just say I've been using the app "Flash Image GUI" to do it. For some reason after rebooting nothing changes, I don't understand why literally nothing happens. I'm running Cyanogenmod 10.
after you flash the boot.img from flashgui, you're supposed to go into recovery and then flash the actual kernel.

Thanks for the reply but yeah nah that doesn't work either. Kernel still remains unchanged.

Your problem tells me you're on hboot 1.14. You won't be able to flash kernels with that. i suggest downgrading your hboot to 1.09. You won't have any of those issues. You'll find a manual tut in the General section and a JET tool in the Android Dev section.

That will only work if the kernel has a specialized aroma installer. I don't know if they still use it or not anymore. Venom probably does

I would highly recommend downgrading your hboot. It seems daunting but it works great.
Whoa, lots of replies lol. Ok so I'm just gonna downgrade the hboot since it would probably cause other problems too I'm sure. Just haven't had a chance to do it until now, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks guys.

Sorry dude, but I can't find this manual tutorial. Could you please do me another favour and link it to me or something? Or perhaps be more specific as to what I'm searching for?
EDIT2:
Nevermind. Finally got hboot working.. you have no idea how much **** I ran into trying to do it but. First Linux just kept freezing and crashing so I had to actually install the thing so I didn't keep losing all my progress. Then I got the Jet Tool started and after a few minutes the screen was black and unresponsive resulting in my phone bricking. I tried the unbrick command and recover commands in the tool and nothing would happen so I read up on how to unbrick plus other sneaky Linux commands which I had to use and eventually I kickstarted the Jet Tool again and it started working and got to a point where it became stuck again BUT my charging light was on. So I opened up bootloader and I had hboot 1.09. Longest most frustrating 4 hours of my life -__-
EDIT3:
No matter what I do now, after flashing the kernel the phone gets stuck at the screen:
Code:
Android is Upgrading...
Starting apps.

Sorry for spamming but I'm gonna assume no one knows the answer to my problem so maybe the following screenshots will help. I managed to get the phone to boot completely by flashing the kernel via Flash Image GUI and then flashing my ROM boot.img via fastboot but once again the kernel remains unchanged. Is there something wrong with CyanogenMod or something??

Hey Guys,
so if you have the same problem like me, that superoneklick tool hangs at “Running psneuter” than you should give this a try.
this works only on s-off devices. all you s-on´s you have to wait for other options or find someone with a xtc clip.

DISCLAIMER: i´m not responsible for bricking your device. do everything in this guide at your own risk.
- download the PG88IMG-unsecured_bootimg.zip
- rename it to “PG88IMG.zip”
- put it on the root of your SD card
- reboot into hboot and wait.
PG88IMG-unsecured_bootimg.zip
bootloader will automaticly chack this file (ignore the security flag ;-) ) and flash this unsecured boot.img.
reboot your phone and use superoneklick tool the normal way.
rename the PG88IMG.zip to something else or the bootloader will try to flash it every time when the phone starts in bootloader.
hope this will help those who could root even with s-off.
kind regards

Well, this is good, and probably makes superoneclick work, but isn't it much easier to use Gingerbreak instead ?? I'm thinking since everyone is using this method, Gingerbreak must have a few cons. Can anyone tell me what they are? Or am i better off using gingerbreak after i S-OFF with a XTC Clip?
I used this then super one click and it was literally that, very easy.
Would recommend that need method, after reading disclaimer.

Flash a Custom ROM.
I dont understand why people would still want to use this?
Isnt it redundant now since gingerbreaks out.
Once your s-off Gingerbreak works a treat, no need to flash a boot.img

you have to update your kernel. this unsecured bootimage contains an old kernel and no mudules for wifi or else.
after you got root you have to flash clockworkmod recovery and than a custom rom from this forum to get a working kernel with it´s modules.
this bootimage is only for rooting and flashing recovery... after that you have to reflash an actual kernel which is in every custom rom here.
hope that helps
regards
p.s this boot img is from times whre gingerbreak didn´t work for the desire s... since gingerbreak 1.2 roots every desire s with s-off there is no need for that way of rooting.
some people wanted this again after it was deleted... there is no need for this until gingerbreak works very well.

Long story short, got my brother this phone of Craigslist for xmas this year. Its already got CleanRom 5.0 and an older build of TWRP on it. I'm no noob, but I'm used to a Nexus 4 and over there things are WAY easier to figure out. No PC needed, rarely needed adb, root and bootloader unlocked in seconds. So, I need a bit of help to get everything up to date. I'm pretty sure I have a really old HBOOT, and everything else really. I attached a pic of the bootloader screen.
Questions
1. Do I need to update the Hboot? Will I lose unlock if I do?
2. Is SuperCID needed? (I'm going to use cellunlocker to unlock this baby for Tmo)
3. If possible, can I achieve S-OFF like I had with my Sensation all those years ago?
Thank you for any advice/help you may have :highfive:

Bro you're golden. If you already running cleanrom and twrp, there's nothing else to do except update twrp and flash some ROMs! On 1.09 hboot there are no limitations aside from the red text splash screen. You can flash ROMs, kernels, mods, radios, splashes, boot ani's all through recovery with no need for fastboot! Just be 100% sure you stay in these forums, for if you flash an international OneX ROM you'll be in some deep shiz.
But that's a situation we have absolutelygrim for

Yeah I'm glad I got pretty lucky finding one with old hboot... Reminds me of my Sensation days where everyone who installed some certain update lost root and bootloader unlock and had to wait forever for it to be unlocked. I just updated it to CleanRom 5.1 and put some mods on there with that mod pack (forgot who made it lol). SO glad I dont have to tether it to ADB everytime I flash a kernel for my bro (its his xmas gift).

I have decided to post the wipe scripts here for those Kernelholics & Flashaholics that are flashing kernels and ROMs constantly. I've made small modifications to these scripts to be flashed on HTC ONE S FULL credit to the originator of them Credits below.
These are compatible with CWM, TWRP.
Since there have been numerous kernels recently being posted and people wondering what to wipe or what not to wiped here is the Kernel Cleaner.
1. Place the file in the root of your /sdcard
2. Flash Kernel Cleaner
3. Flash Kernel if on TWRP on lower baseband or FastBoot Kernel
4. Reboot.
Download: http://d-h.st/HDi
This second script I'm sure everyone is familiar with SUPERWIPE script.
Tired of wiping after every ROM or not knowing what to wipe to flash a ROM and have a clean install? Just flash this script & flash ROM easy right?
This wipes SYSTEM, CACHE, DATA.
1. Place Wipe-Script in root of /sdcard
2. Flash Wipe-Script
3. Flash ROM
4. Reboot.
Download: http://d-h.st/61T
Debug
If it doesn't flash please tell me what recovery your using.
ONLY works for the HTC ONE S flashing on other devices will leave you with a BRICKED DEVICE. You have been warned.

I know, I have to make some small changes but since I don't own a One S anymore there is no way to test it and with how sensible a wipe script is I don't want to release a blind one and have people brick their phones.
Just wondering, would this still work? I have been recently sent here by another thread. And as for the second script, is that what is present in twrp 2.6 now? (since factory reset wipes those things)

No, that is incorrect. You are able to edit the system partition but not radio or rpm, tz, rcdata etc. with an unlocked bootloader but no S-OFF. S-OFF enables you to do anything and edit any partition.

I think everything you need is the relocked bootloader.
Yeah, the ruu will write the recovery back to stock itself. The only thing you need to do to run an ruu is relock the bootloader.
Keep in mind you will lose root if you run the ruu.
Thanks and yes i am very well aware of that and if he tryes to flash custom roms like Viper S,the phone boots just fine but there is no gsm signal,is it because of the kernel and can he use the stock cernel with the Viper rom ?

It sounds like it could be just a modem configuration problem. The first place I would check is: open up the dialer and type *#*#4636#*#* This will open a screen called "testing." Then go to "phone options" and scroll to the "preferred network type" option. Make sure that an option is picked that includes GSM. Be sure not to change any other options unless you know what they are for, this screen alters the core of the phone.
You also get to show off a hidden menu on your friends phone

it happen because the kernel is with write protection i.e. u can change the system partition ones but it be rolled back to stock after reboot
to avoid this you have to install a custom kernel with write protection disabled like Bullet proof kernel by flar( it is shared in forum have a look)

please help?
Hi there, 1st off, thanks for your work. But I'm kind of a noob and think I messed up the install of this. I installed the zip with TWRP and now when my phone boots it says "unfortunately, system UI has stopped". Is there any way to reverse this procedure and return my phone to how it was before I tried installing this? Also, I guess I'd like to know the correct procedure to install this. Sorry about this, just kind of stuck. Thanks!

If you want to go back to the way it was just dirty flash whatever ROM you're running.
Dirty flash = flash without wipe.

No problems. If you ever run into an issue with a mod, just dirty flash the ROM again and it should fix it right up.

correct way to install?
So, sorry to ask, but what is the correct procedure for installing this? I love the looks of it. Not sure if this is useful information but I have TWRP & the ROM I'm using is CleanROM 7.0.P1
Thanks!

I'm not on a Sense 5 ROM right now so I can't test it, but I've just downloaded the zip and taken a look at it and the correct way to install it is through recovery. Wipe cache and dalvik cache.
If you're using any other mods in conjunction it's possible that they're conflicting. What version of TWRP are you on?

thanks again for trying to help timmaaa! Yeah the only other mod I installed was "Minor Tiles" which was in the posting for CleanRom but since I did a dirty flash of CleanRom I suppose that Minor Tiles mod is gone? I wasn't even sure what the F that was.. My version of TWRP is 2.3.3.0
All I did was flashed the zip from within TWRP and it went bonkers...hahaha. Just didn't know if I was supposed to unzip this file and do something with the individual files

This mod won't work as it was based on 4.1.2 for the ported roms we had before the official HTC release of 4.2.2 and clean Rom is 4.2.2 so completely different system UI.

Thanks for clearing that up, I should have looked at the date on the OP. And the screenshot for that matter. Facepalm.
