Help me get this AT&T HOX up to date - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Long story short, got my brother this phone of Craigslist for xmas this year. Its already got CleanRom 5.0 and an older build of TWRP on it. I'm no noob, but I'm used to a Nexus 4 and over there things are WAY easier to figure out. No PC needed, rarely needed adb, root and bootloader unlocked in seconds. So, I need a bit of help to get everything up to date. I'm pretty sure I have a really old HBOOT, and everything else really. I attached a pic of the bootloader screen.
Questions
1. Do I need to update the Hboot? Will I lose unlock if I do?
2. Is SuperCID needed? (I'm going to use cellunlocker to unlock this baby for Tmo)
3. If possible, can I achieve S-OFF like I had with my Sensation all those years ago?
Thank you for any advice/help you may have :highfive:

only if you update your hboot from 1.09 to 1.14, then you have to do the fastboot flash boot boot.img garbage

Bro you're golden. If you already running cleanrom and twrp, there's nothing else to do except update twrp and flash some ROMs! On 1.09 hboot there are no limitations aside from the red text splash screen. You can flash ROMs, kernels, mods, radios, splashes, boot ani's all through recovery with no need for fastboot! Just be 100% sure you stay in these forums, for if you flash an international OneX ROM you'll be in some deep shiz.
But that's a situation we have absolutelygrim for

Yeah I'm glad I got pretty lucky finding one with old hboot... Reminds me of my Sensation days where everyone who installed some certain update lost root and bootloader unlock and had to wait forever for it to be unlocked. I just updated it to CleanRom 5.1 and put some mods on there with that mod pack (forgot who made it lol). SO glad I dont have to tether it to ADB everytime I flash a kernel for my bro (its his xmas gift).
Edit. Eraste mods

I have S-OFF... now what?

I too have a US T-Mobile Sensation with S-OFF. I'm not an expert or dev but also not a stranger to flashing recoveries, custom roms, etc.
I've had it for weeks now, just never thought to check for S-OFF! Oops
Guessing I can't do much at this point as no one has developed a custom recovery...?

THe proper thing to do would be to let me trade you out for this brand new s-on device. You dont want the hassle of dealing with one of those s-off devices.. I wouldn't feel right if i didn't at least offer the trade. What can i say i'm just a nice guy.

You lucky duck...
S-OFF is not in a good spot right now ,here are some reason why you might want to sell for a little more and get the S-ON :
1) You might brick your phone since it's new and don't know what you doing
2) not a whole lot to flash at this point
3) you busy flashing while we S-ON are having fun with Sense 3.0
How do you check for S-ON/OFF?

Is it normal to have so many s-off devices turning up? How are regular customers through retail getting s-off devices? Just seems strange to me.

He said he's had it for weeks, which means it wasn't a retail device.
Why must he sell away his phone just cause its S-OFF?
Even without S-ON he can still enjoy Sense 3.0
He can just wait till there are mods that he wants to have on his phone, till then he can just enjoy his phone
Good thing for him is just that he doesnt have to go through the hassle of getting his phone from S-ON to S-OFF
Don't bother selling your phone

Enjoy having s-off. Root it and have fun with root apps.
If you want to join the flashing fun check out the CWM WIP thread (nandroid backup isn't working at the mo, but it is usable).
Its fairly easy to unbrick. if you extract a rom.zip from a RUU (I keep mine on a spare SD card for fastboot).

Can't Flash any Kernels

I've tried flashing jac0bs kernel and both the normal and novc rohan kernels and to keep things simple lets just say I've been using the app "Flash Image GUI" to do it. For some reason after rebooting nothing changes, I don't understand why literally nothing happens. I'm running Cyanogenmod 10.
after you flash the boot.img from flashgui, you're supposed to go into recovery and then flash the actual kernel.

Your problem tells me you're on hboot 1.14. You won't be able to flash kernels with that. i suggest downgrading your hboot to 1.09. You won't have any of those issues. You'll find a manual tut in the General section and a JET tool in the Android Dev section.

That will only work if the kernel has a specialized aroma installer. I don't know if they still use it or not anymore. Venom probably does

I would highly recommend downgrading your hboot. It seems daunting but it works great.
Whoa, lots of replies lol. Ok so I'm just gonna downgrade the hboot since it would probably cause other problems too I'm sure. Just haven't had a chance to do it until now, I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks guys.

Sorry dude, but I can't find this manual tutorial. Could you please do me another favour and link it to me or something? Or perhaps be more specific as to what I'm searching for?
EDIT2:
Nevermind. Finally got hboot working.. you have no idea how much **** I ran into trying to do it but. First Linux just kept freezing and crashing so I had to actually install the thing so I didn't keep losing all my progress. Then I got the Jet Tool started and after a few minutes the screen was black and unresponsive resulting in my phone bricking. I tried the unbrick command and recover commands in the tool and nothing would happen so I read up on how to unbrick plus other sneaky Linux commands which I had to use and eventually I kickstarted the Jet Tool again and it started working and got to a point where it became stuck again BUT my charging light was on. So I opened up bootloader and I had hboot 1.09. Longest most frustrating 4 hours of my life -__-
EDIT3:
No matter what I do now, after flashing the kernel the phone gets stuck at the screen:
Code:
Android is Upgrading...
Starting apps.

Sorry for spamming but I'm gonna assume no one knows the answer to my problem so maybe the following screenshots will help. I managed to get the phone to boot completely by flashing the kernel via Flash Image GUI and then flashing my ROM boot.img via fastboot but once again the kernel remains unchanged. Is there something wrong with CyanogenMod or something??

I want to install stock ruu on my ds without making it S- on how to do it ..??
Can someone tell me how to install this? I know zip files - flash from recovery, but these are exe files. After installing this rom, will my s-off newest hboot and 4ext recovery be gone? I am quite new in these stuff, thank you for your help. I have spent much time in making my device s-off... It was pain for a week because my hboot version was too new.

I knw this post is seriously old but nobody replied so i thought i would add my bit for anyone else who wondered the same.
The files on that site are ruu exe files yes but if you run the exe and wait for it to extract all the files you then go to your usernames temp folder on c drive and find the temp folder it extracted to and pull the zip file named 'rom' from it.
as for what it would do to your s-off status from flashing a stock rom, i dont know.

Android 4.4? Wow. Good to know. About going back to 2.3, its a personal thing. I am not comfortable entering my bank passwords in a custom ROM and the official 4.0 is a burden on the phone. So, I decided to go back to 2.3.
I've never tried the official ice rom although I did get on very well with another ics rom I ran untill jelly bean and kitkat roms became stable. I understand your concerns about security, its for that very same reason that all the banks apps will not install on a rooted device.
I dont use any of that stuff, I leave all that to the wife so, im free to do what I want worrie free lol.
another bonus is that my desire s is not my every day phone (I have a HTC Win phone for that) so nothing personal, no photos that matter, no contacts, nothing is on the device.
I use the desire a bit like a teeny little tablet if you like.
Android is better than win phone in a LOT of respects but win phone is faster and 100% stable all of the time so that gets used as my phone plus it has a physical keyboard and I absolutely hate using on screen keyboards!

I don't quite understand what you want to do.. If you want to RUU, you'll need to know if you're Super CID or not, Super CID + RUU = brick unless you're S-OFF

My currently version is 2.33.162.2 and the RUU is damaged so i cant use the RUU to reinstall the rom and thatswhy im looking for a stock recovery image file.
1.82.162.6 is too old and i cannot install it.
I want to install STOCK 3.17.162.7 ROM and then just unlock again with root and custom recovery.

yes, it will be called either "recovery_signed.img" or "recovery.img" can't remember which.
(I'm not positive it's in the OTA's.. but I think so) Since I'm the only one here you'll just have to check for me.

It is in the OTA's. I just checked. Wasn't going to leave you alone lol.
Nevermind, I found the RUU here: http://bugsylawson.com/index.php/fi...320920-3-101073225l-release-276002-signedexe/
If that link doesn't work (I can't test cuz I'm at work) you'll have to Hex edit your CID, S-OFF, then flash an older RUU.

Can anyone confirm that flashing a recovery from a different carrier RUU is safe? hboot is the same from AT&T 2.20.502.7
Could he not Extract recovery from that RUU and flash that?

I'm pretty sure the meaningful differences are only at the rom level. The stock recovery.img is probably the same across RUUs (but don't quote me on that).
Would be easy to confirm by pulling a few from different RUUs and comparing file sizes.

Might be faster/Safer just to S-OFF and flash an older RUU.
Ending numbers will not be the same so it will not recognize signature with different carriers. Some use 5.1 and others use5_1 just an example.
I had flashed the stock recovery and im updating atm via OTA. Will report later...

this is very wrong.
when u type: adb shell getprop "ro.cid"
it reads the cid stored in system\build.prop
in build.prop you can change to whatever you want.
the only way to make sure it's only throw fastboot.

iN 4.1.2 yes your correct. in 4.2.2 and later it reads from the partition that I listed.
in 4.2.2 and later there is not even a line in the build prop for ro.cid

SuperCID changes your Carrier ID so that you can flash any ROM using ANY RUU. For example, when the Google Edition stock HTC One is released in the Google store, it will cost $600+. When the RUU for it is released, you'll be able to use the RUU to turn your HTC One into a completely stock Google Edition One.

So what your'e saying is that I can go download any RUU from another HTC One forum and flash it using super CID to change my CID?
So using fastboot oem getvar writecid won't change the cid system wide on 4.2.2?

It does not matter it will work..I changed all of my cid's with hex editor only to find out it does not matter...it reports the old cid in some places because of when it was written ...if u flash a new ruu it will change plus its been reported that some did not hex edit all out and they still could flash everything

Careful with that, don't wander around flashing RUUs, doing so might also harm your device. Better to read into the topic of the RUU you are interested in carefully.
