I have S-OFF... now what? - HTC Sensation

I too have a US T-Mobile Sensation with S-OFF. I'm not an expert or dev but also not a stranger to flashing recoveries, custom roms, etc.
I've had it for weeks now, just never thought to check for S-OFF! Oops
Guessing I can't do much at this point as no one has developed a custom recovery...?

THe proper thing to do would be to let me trade you out for this brand new s-on device. You dont want the hassle of dealing with one of those s-off devices.. I wouldn't feel right if i didn't at least offer the trade. What can i say i'm just a nice guy.

Thanks for the "generous" offer. But, I know how lucky I am to have S-OFF. Not a complete noob
Would like to mod and flash something asap!

You lucky duck...

S-OFF is not in a good spot right now ,here are some reason why you might want to sell for a little more and get the S-ON :
1) You might brick your phone since it's new and don't know what you doing
2) not a whole lot to flash at this point
3) you busy flashing while we S-ON are having fun with Sense 3.0

How do you check for S-ON/OFF?

Is it normal to have so many s-off devices turning up? How are regular customers through retail getting s-off devices? Just seems strange to me.
edit. I'm not doubting anybody, didn't mean for it to sound like that, if it did

He said he's had it for weeks, which means it wasn't a retail device.

Why must he sell away his phone just cause its S-OFF?
Even without S-ON he can still enjoy Sense 3.0
He can just wait till there are mods that he wants to have on his phone, till then he can just enjoy his phone
Good thing for him is just that he doesnt have to go through the hassle of getting his phone from S-ON to S-OFF
Don't bother selling your phone

Are you high?

know you go PARTY !!!

Enjoy having s-off. Root it and have fun with root apps.
If you want to join the flashing fun check out the CWM WIP thread (nandroid backup isn't working at the mo, but it is usable).
Its fairly easy to unbrick. if you extract a rom.zip from a RUU (I keep mine on a spare SD card for fastboot).

First of all the person that start this thread ,if he just do a little search I mean just little he would not waste his time to post thread like this. If he know how to check if his device is S-OFF then he'll know exactly what to do next.
Am I joking on my last post? . Why are alot these S-OFF devices are going to a wrong people. He should earn a S-ON

I have a s-off also well mine says s-off shipped. No root method I have had time to try has worked. If someone wants me to try something let me know.

If you see a date above imei number, this means sim unlock code not available. The "second method" refers to an alternative for Sensation users only, doesn't work on DS unfortunately.

I see only a date too . Is there any other way to do this? Vodafone is charging 50 euros for unlocking, which I find unacceptable.
Anyone find anything useful on this topic? Is there any way to replicate the method 2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232107 on our device? Perhaps with a PG88DIAG.nbh file?

As Vodafone probably sold the phone (locked) for a very low price, I don't see that as unacceptable, maybe you can't afford it, but that doesn't mean Vodafone is doing anything "wrong".

The phone was, in fact, bought at a reasonably lower cost due to it being part of a deal for a new subscription, and I'm not saying that they shouldn't charge money for unlocking it, because it's well within their rights to do so. It seems to me, though, that this fee is much higher than what is regularly charged for this service (from what I read on these forums / asked other people).
Whatever the cost, though, being able to do it for free is better than having to pay for it . That's the reason why I asked about the method 2 from the Sensation forum. It seems to me that we would only need the .nbh file appropiate for our device (a PG88DIAG.nbh instead of PG58DIAG.nbh), but I don't know where anyone would obtain such a file, In any case, it's something worth researching. I only wish I were more experienced with this sort of hacking / exploiting, perhaps someone more capable than me can look into it.
There was a thread with some technical document about our DS here. The source was a Chech website for mobile phone diagnostic and repair. I think there was a Diag file among the other downloads. You can search for it
EDIT: I have typed PG88DIAG.nbh in Google and got pretty much hits

I wonder if it's the right file or if the people on the Sensation forum modified it somehow to suit their needs. I tried using one of the PG88DIAG.nbh files I found here on XDA, but after following the exact instructions from the Sensation thread, my phone got stuck on "Error writing CID" (or something). It could have been because of the HBOOT (I was using the 0.98.2000 ENG HBOOT) and I could try it again on revolutionary's S-OFF HBOOT, the thread mentioned it needs radio S-OFF, i'm not sure if it has that.
I found another solution to this, and a Desire S owner in the threaed claims that it worked for him (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1681145).
However, in my case it didn't work, My guess is because of the way Vodafone locks their handsets, which seems to be different than the way HTC locks them. Oh well, back to the Internet for more solutions. I hope this one helps some of you.

Desire S doesn't have radio S-OFF.
The most convenient way to achieve full (radio) S-OFF and SIM unlock on Desire S would be to build a Froyo kernel that will run on it and allow executing ADB daemon. It doesn't need to boot Android, just to run. But it's something that a good kernel developer is required for.
Given such kernel, Desire S owners could use gfree.

But you need a whitecard or at least a whitecard emulator like the XTC Clip to do those things

Unfortunately I'm no where near Germany right now, and I doubt I'll find a helpful XTC Clip owner in Romania, so I decided I'll just give the money to Vodafone and get it over with. I want to gift this phone for Christmas to someone who's on Orange, so I'll just go ahead and pay up. Thanks for the offer though
Well for 50€ you could also buy an XTC clip and you could unlock nearly every HTC device then
They are sending it via FedEx express btw
I'll keep that in mind, thanks for the info

Help me get this AT&T HOX up to date

Long story short, got my brother this phone of Craigslist for xmas this year. Its already got CleanRom 5.0 and an older build of TWRP on it. I'm no noob, but I'm used to a Nexus 4 and over there things are WAY easier to figure out. No PC needed, rarely needed adb, root and bootloader unlocked in seconds. So, I need a bit of help to get everything up to date. I'm pretty sure I have a really old HBOOT, and everything else really. I attached a pic of the bootloader screen.
Questions
1. Do I need to update the Hboot? Will I lose unlock if I do?
2. Is SuperCID needed? (I'm going to use cellunlocker to unlock this baby for Tmo)
3. If possible, can I achieve S-OFF like I had with my Sensation all those years ago?
Thank you for any advice/help you may have :highfive:

Bro you're golden. If you already running cleanrom and twrp, there's nothing else to do except update twrp and flash some ROMs! On 1.09 hboot there are no limitations aside from the red text splash screen. You can flash ROMs, kernels, mods, radios, splashes, boot ani's all through recovery with no need for fastboot! Just be 100% sure you stay in these forums, for if you flash an international OneX ROM you'll be in some deep shiz.
But that's a situation we have absolutelygrim for

Yeah I'm glad I got pretty lucky finding one with old hboot... Reminds me of my Sensation days where everyone who installed some certain update lost root and bootloader unlock and had to wait forever for it to be unlocked. I just updated it to CleanRom 5.1 and put some mods on there with that mod pack (forgot who made it lol). SO glad I dont have to tether it to ADB everytime I flash a kernel for my bro (its his xmas gift).
Edit. Eraste mods

I am quite new in these stuff, thank you for your help. I have spent much time in making my device s-off... It was pain for a week because my hboot version was too new.

I knw this post is seriously old but nobody replied so i thought i would add my bit for anyone else who wondered the same.
The files on that site are ruu exe files yes but if you run the exe and wait for it to extract all the files you then go to your usernames temp folder on c drive and find the temp folder it extracted to and pull the zip file named 'rom' from it.
as for what it would do to your s-off status from flashing a stock rom, i dont know.

Android 4.4? Wow. Good to know. About going back to 2.3, its a personal thing. I am not comfortable entering my bank passwords in a custom ROM and the official 4.0 is a burden on the phone. So, I decided to go back to 2.3.
I've never tried the official ice rom although I did get on very well with another ics rom I ran untill jelly bean and kitkat roms became stable. I understand your concerns about security, its for that very same reason that all the banks apps will not install on a rooted device.
I dont use any of that stuff, I leave all that to the wife so, im free to do what I want worrie free lol.
another bonus is that my desire s is not my every day phone (I have a HTC Win phone for that) so nothing personal, no photos that matter, no contacts, nothing is on the device.
I use the desire a bit like a teeny little tablet if you like.
Android is better than win phone in a LOT of respects but win phone is faster and 100% stable all of the time so that gets used as my phone plus it has a physical keyboard and I absolutely hate using on screen keyboards!

Many thanks to the ORIGINAL guy, football. He carried this community far with all his releases
Also thanks to tmartin for helping me stay on top of all the RUUs
Fixed link
A very useful resource, beats rooting around HTCDev for the stuff. Just a note, there's a VilleC2 RUU hiding amongst the Ville ones on the site. That might confuse people if they think they clicked "Ville" so it should all be Ville RUUs and they download that one...How to we let a site admin know to change its category?

I'm not sure what your mirroring requirements are, but HTC has posted the TMOUS RUU for 3.14.531.17 here. RUU Link
Really wish I could find a Cincinnati Bell RUU I guess there isn't one.

Hello guys!
I just got a second hand HTC One S and the first thing I did was to check for software updates. I got an OTA that I did not see in any of the listed sites here so I decided to upload it to shipped-roms.com, do you know how to upload it to AndroidRUU?
The OTA in question is named:
OTA_Ville_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.16.401.9-3.16.401.8_release_314502nkooijnhkglckupn.zip

Have you tried to email [email protected]?
Looking to completely restore my HTC One S to how it was when I bought it. Going to send it back.
Is this the right place for that? I thought RUU were for that, but does it restore everything?
Yes

Did you have to take any preliminary steps before running the RUU? I'm rooted and running CM10.2 on my One S but have been getting random restarts and crashes for a while now so I'm thinking to go back to factory settings. I'm still S-ON and HBOOT 2.15, but rebooting my phone shows a red HTC message saying it's for devs, etc. I'm not sure if I need to 'un-do' that somehow, before running the RUU?
Also do you know if running an RUU results in the device loosing root as well?
Guys, help me out here please? My HTC One s has a CID GLOBA001, platform: HBOOT-8960, version-bootloader: 2.15.0000, version-baseband: 1.11.50.05.28, version-misc: PVT SHIP S-ON.
I just wanna get back to stock. Could anyone help me out?
I have been unable to find Wind's stock RUU and I don't know how I'm gonna get S-OFF either.
I'm running CM-11 right now.

Hey, thanks for that link. I just managed to gain S-off by rumrunner, I haven't changed my CID yet, just S-on to S-off. Would this RUU work for me?

uh oh. I think I just bricked my m8

So, I ran firewater and wanted to get to recovery. I ran the adb command "adb boot recovery" and I get a screen with a phone with a red triangle and exclamation point in the middle. Is there a way out of this?
Please help.
That's just the stock recovery. Hold the power button down until the device reboots.
I held vol up and power and got out of it. phew. thx
i was gonna damn already :silly:

No, I understand what a brick is, i just haven't seen this screen before. What i didn't understand was that this is what Verizon's stock recovery looks like.

I'm not giving him hell..
I just feel if you are going to risk bricking your phone, you should at least know what the stock recovery looks like so we don't get cluttered with threads about people thinking they "bricked" their phone when it is on....
a brick means just that, it's a brick.
doesn't turn on, doesn't charge, notta.
I am glad the OP got his phone working though.
I just feel that S-OFF is very dangerous and I think people need to do some more research before diving in.. If you can't tell the difference between a stock recovery and a brick.. well - IMHO you shouldn't be S-OFF yet.
I am entitled to my opinion. But in no way was I giving him hell nor looking down on him, he created the thread, I gave an opinion; this is a forum after all.

I agree with you. Why do you guys think its called a "brick"?! If someone does not understand basic concepts like adb, flashing, and bricks, they should not be trying to s-off their phone.

i agree with that too. so many noobs
To many noobs.. We were all once. Been doing this for a few years. Just tried to upload a CWM backup and couldn't. Didn't realize I had to zip it first. I've done things much more complicated but couldn't do that. We'll all be noobs at something, no matter what. XDA is for noobs as much as for anyone else. Noob.. What a funny word anyway lol. Noob boob

Friend of mine was trying to revert back to stock ROM and he just deleted everything on advanced wipe on TWRP. Says no OS installed. Tried everything, but can't find a RUU for a sprint non-harman edition M8.

Why are they even called bricks
Phones don't really resemble bricks anymore. They're more like slabs.
Guys I think I slabbed my phone
Has a nice ring to it

No sir, you didn't slab your phone if it still has a ring to it.
knowing I didn't brick my phone,
I can't get into any recovery. when I press the volume up and power, I get the white HTC splash screen for a second then black.
I was trying to restore a nandroid from TWRP.
