Hey Guys,
so if you have the same problem like me, that superoneklick tool hangs at “Running psneuter” than you should give this a try.
this works only on s-off devices. all you s-on´s you have to wait for other options or find someone with a xtc clip.

- download the PG88IMG-unsecured_bootimg.zip
- rename it to “PG88IMG.zip”
- put it on the root of your SD card
- reboot into hboot and wait.
PG88IMG-unsecured_bootimg.zip
bootloader will automaticly chack this file (ignore the security flag ;-) ) and flash this unsecured boot.img.
reboot your phone and use superoneklick tool the normal way.
rename the PG88IMG.zip to something else or the bootloader will try to flash it every time when the phone starts in bootloader.
hope this will help those who could root even with s-off.
kind regards

Well, this is good, and probably makes superoneclick work, but isn't it much easier to use Gingerbreak instead ?? I'm thinking since everyone is using this method, Gingerbreak must have a few cons. Can anyone tell me what they are? Or am i better off using gingerbreak after i S-OFF with a XTC Clip?
I used this then super one click and it was literally that, very easy.
Would recommend that need method, after reading disclaimer.

Good stuff LBC
I used unsecureboot and oneclick method. I got root. But now I can enable wireless no more. Rebooting the phone or unroot with one click did not help..
Any ideas?

Flash a Custom ROM.
I dont understand why people would still want to use this?
Isnt it redundant now since gingerbreaks out.
Once your s-off Gingerbreak works a treat, no need to flash a boot.img

you have to update your kernel. this unsecured bootimage contains an old kernel and no mudules for wifi or else.
after you got root you have to flash clockworkmod recovery and than a custom rom from this forum to get a working kernel with it´s modules.
this bootimage is only for rooting and flashing recovery... after that you have to reflash an actual kernel which is in every custom rom here.
hope that helps
regards
p.s this boot img is from times whre gingerbreak didn´t work for the desire s... since gingerbreak 1.2 roots every desire s with s-off there is no need for that way of rooting.
some people wanted this again after it was deleted... there is no need for this until gingerbreak works very well.

What recovery is this going to use?
Lets you choose
After I just finished a few hours ago reading every post in the other thread and following all those steps!
Way to go, jiqqaman! This will help out quite a few folks on here.
Awesome. I rooted my phone earlier (at least I think I did) and I can't get any rom to install. I think it has to do with the amon-ra recovery so I'm glad this will let me choose.
Does it matter that my evo may already be rooted?
Damn your quick.

I dunno anything bout unrevoked , but this doesnt give you the latest radio/wimax that the 1.47.651.1 OTA has. Theres a guide that shows you how to add the latest radio/wimax somewhere on the forum.
I'm using this as my very first post here.
On my old evo I used simple root and it was amazing! I had to return the old evo and get a new one, and as luck would have it it came with the new update.
I can't wait for this new simple root to be uploaded, I keep checking this thread every 5 minutes.
Anyway, one this program is up, running and working I assure you I will be clicking the donate button.
Thank you for the work and effort you are putting into this.

well unrevoked basically let you do anything root would except remove bloatware and flash roms
cuz what i was planning to do was install the update directly from my phone and then root with this method .. if i do that will my phone have the latest radio wimax added on to it already?

It's got the best of both worlds! Stock AT&T ROM for good sound quality, but it's also rooted!
But does rooting the stock rom enable hsupa upload speeds? If not, we need s combo rom with a desire and am inspire, sound issue fixed, hsupa enabled.
Is this perma-root? If so how did you do it or can you provide a cwm zip file?

If he simply roots the stock AT&T ROM, it still will not have the Settings Checkbox for allowing non-market apps to be installed, thus he must still use a sideloading app or use "adb install".
That's what I figured.

This.
The problem is, the way I rooted, ro.secure is still set to 1 (adb sees the phone as a non-rooted phone) which means I can't use "adb remount".
If I could use adb remount, it's a really simple script to update the settings.db file to allow for sideloading

Try reformatting the card? Did they work before you rooted? do they work again if you unroot?
They worked before the root, I didn't unroot yet. When you out then in the phone and go to the SD card setting it shows nothing. Just says unavailable. So I can't even format it on the phone. I've formatted them in many ways on the pc too
HTC EVO = my best friend
did you try pulling out the sdcard and putting it back in? does it show a blank sdcard, or no sdcard at all?

after you flash the boot.img from flashgui, you're supposed to go into recovery and then flash the actual kernel.

Your problem tells me you're on hboot 1.14. You won't be able to flash kernels with that. i suggest downgrading your hboot to 1.09. You won't have any of those issues. You'll find a manual tut in the General section and a JET tool in the Android Dev section.

Sorry dude, but I can't find this manual tutorial. Could you please do me another favour and link it to me or something? Or perhaps be more specific as to what I'm searching for?
EDIT2:
Nevermind. Finally got hboot working.. you have no idea how much **** I ran into trying to do it but. First Linux just kept freezing and crashing so I had to actually install the thing so I didn't keep losing all my progress. Then I got the Jet Tool started and after a few minutes the screen was black and unresponsive resulting in my phone bricking. I tried the unbrick command and recover commands in the tool and nothing would happen so I read up on how to unbrick plus other sneaky Linux commands which I had to use and eventually I kickstarted the Jet Tool again and it started working and got to a point where it became stuck again BUT my charging light was on. So I opened up bootloader and I had hboot 1.09. Longest most frustrating 4 hours of my life -__-
EDIT3:
No matter what I do now, after flashing the kernel the phone gets stuck at the screen:
Code:
Android is Upgrading...
Starting apps.

Please thank the fine people that have put these threads togather for you.
Thank you so much.
Seeing as this is Pinned and I See no point in creating a thread just to get it lost in the Cluster.
if you want to add this
All_IN_ONE.zip - 22.59 MB
To the OP for resources
its a zip containing drivers/recoveries/adb.exe/fastboot.exe and most importantly a nice script to allow end user to do anything booting different recovery, flashing different recovery, reboot tools, and steps and links on how to Root and S-Off
If you feel its useful add to OP, if not no hard feelings.

Yes please! I need this as well.
Asked in another thread and got a response from someone saying to get back to stock recovery you "do the same thing you did to get the custom recovery, just use the stock image instead".
Not so helpful without a link to a stock recovery image
Still hoping to find this somewhere.

Look through QBKings videos found here. Please note, his videos, on the M8, are all listed in the black box on the right.
All of his videos regarding the M8 can be found in this link. You may find what you need in his tutorials.
To unbox:
MOD edit: This thread is for videos on helpful how to's for this device. A unboxing video is nothing more then a review of the device.
Great Information
:good:
I'm wondering if "how to videos" that discuss rooting, custom recoveries, custom ROMs, etc. should also include a warning about accepting OTA updates?
Lots of Galaxy S3 and S4 users unknowingly accepted OTA updates to find their phones were now hopelessly locked down and no custom recoveries could be installed.
I personally believe ALL carriers want their phones locked down securely and do NOT want anyone to be able to mod a phone in any way and with this belief comes the thought that any phone such as the M8 will sooner or later receive an OTA that will lock the bootloader.
A warning about OTAs couldn't hurt anything...
Hi ppl, looking into how to threads, I am still looking for a way to disable SIM from unknown source msg on my m8, how can I do that?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Free mobile app
I saw a video about flashing to the Google play version of this device. Is there a link or instructions on here about that? And does anyone know whether it would even work since there's been an update since then?
I don't see a how to for removing the red text on boot up?
