[Q] I have Bricked my "Generic" ICS 4.0.3. Any ideas? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi people and sorry for coming in your wonderful community with a question.
I was trying to root my Prestigio PMP3270B ICS 4.0.3 android device and now I can not get it to function.
The screen I see in the recovery mode is a broken android image without any options. Picture below:

In normal mode I get the Touch Screen Calibration, but the touch function does not work....Picture below:
Any ideas as to how I can fix this ???
Thank you

I added some images. You will need to copy paste the links in my above post because I am not allowed to show them here.
Any ideas?

Yes, I tried the reset pinhole without results.
If i let the device to boot (second picture link above) and connect usb cable with pc, there are 2 drives that open up in explorer. I can neither access them nor format them.....
I think its time to go for a more expensive tablet like google nexus 7 that will not let me down like this....

the arnova 7h g3 has the same problem go to arctablet fourm sign up and see you there because some one installed cwm recovery and worked
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda app-developers app

Thanks man but cwm recovery does not work either...
Now my device won't boot at all.... Only the green LED is on when I turn it on.....
Any ideas as to how I install a custom ROM using the SD Card without USB connection?
Because I can not get it to any screen beyond blank.......
Any ideas people?

Yeahh man you got a point here....
Arnova 7h G3 specs are similar to the Prestigio PMP3270B. Logically any ROM will work on both tablets.

I am trying to "burn" that image to SD card so I can use it on my device without the use of USB....
I have tried the "Phoenix Card Tool" but I got error. I couldn't "burn" the image....
Now I am trying a tool called "Win32 Disk Imager"
I will let you know if it works..... I am up to the limit to give up....
I am going to take the device back to the shop pretending that "Oooops.... Suddenly it does not work... Strange"""
Thanks
Athanasis.
UPDATE:
I tried the tool "Win32 Disk Imager" but it does not restart to the SD card when I insert it in tablet and reset. No green rectangle.

Actually the link you posted was not a rooted ROM but I have managed to unlock it using the following tool and procedure:
Yes guys. I managed to do it. And yes the application that may root this tablet is called "Android ICS Root Unlocker 1.0" Developed by GreekDev -11th July 2012
This is a Zipped file that you will need to unzip.
View attachment 1591923
Make sure that USB is enabled on your tablet and also USB for debugging option is ticked to ON.
Run CMD as an administrator and then write ICS_Root_Unlocker.bat
It is important that you run it from CMD.
At each tablet reboot wait before pressing a key to continue.
Before pressing key to continue enable USB again on your tablet each time it reboots.
If you have problems contact me by quick PM.....

You have to learn a bit more about Android.
It IS rooted out of the box, script just sat qemu property in local.props to already world writable /data partition and copied su binary and SuperSU apk. It did NOT utilize any exploit to escalate privileges. This is the way how devs prefer their devices set up when developing apps that don't require root but want to keep in control of their devices.

Brother, thanks for the info. I am developing in C sharp in visual studio. Also VBA, PHP, MySQL.
To tell u the truth, this is the 1st tablet I ever had....... so you may forgive me for this initial lack of experience.

May I ask if the patch I linked above, would root my device if it were with factory firmware.

Yes, script would work. You have factory firmware right now, too. Link I've posted is factory firmware.
As for the Android programming you'll need C for DDK and Java for SDK.
Keep in mind embedded programming is quite different from desktop/web programming.

Yes I know embedded programming is much more difficult. If I ever decide, I would probably go for the Java platform but not for complicated programs. Free time is quite limited here !!!

Well, I am not so sure if other themes use the same installer but I am just making a guide for this installer because I have seen people are to confused to understand.
Now I am using DarkSensous for 026. DO NOT TRY IF UNDER 026 UNLESS YOUR PREPARED TO REFLASH AND REROOT.
*NOTE* Make sure you extract the folder and do not do the installation from the .rar file.
Go to the bottom first and read all of that or you will be stuck in one step.
First you go into the the contents folder and click the installation which I show in the picture underneath.

You will see this.
Now you need to see if you have -rwsr- if you don't have -rwsr- then you need to do step 7 first.
Mines is already done when I first tried installing.
Alright now you will see this when you type 7 and enter in the CMD Prompt.
Mines is # but it is supposed to be $ since I have already done this step.
You need to copy each step one by one.
*DO NOT COPY THE $ SIGN* Just the text like it will show $ already and you just type in su and so on.
Once done you need to type in 2 for the application backup.
Just wait till its done.
Continue with typing 3.
After typing 3 and pressing enter this will show.
Just wait patiently.
Now type in 4 and press enter.
Wait patiently for it to finish.
Type in 5 and wait.
THE LAST STEP 6! :') I am so proud of you guys.
Just wait patiently now once your done you need to.
Now type in 9 and press enter.
Look at your phone it may restart on its own or you may need to restart it.
Enjoy your new theme.
Things to do before installing theme:
Root your phone.
When doing Step 7 if you are told to.
Make sure you have your phone with you to give permission to the su command.
I am not responsible for anything going wrong with your phone because I was doing the methods and installing a new theme just now.

You might want to include a link to the X10 drivers on the first page. I've seen a lot of people have problems with a 'device not found' error (myself included) even though SEUS is installed. I think it's mainly Windows 7 machines where the problem arises, but downloading and installing these drivers (using the device manager) seems to sort everything out.

Bump...
I am bumping this because people need to see this.
during this whole process... are we supposed to connect the usb/phone to pc before hand... or we need to connect or transfer the theme to phone after a specific step???
how to root the phone?? how does it help??
Try the one click root method...
You can search the forums for the one click root method.
I used the universal androot to root my Xperia x10i.
Also you need to have your phone connected to the PC but it needs to be on debugging.
You go to:
Settings > Application > Development > USB DEBUGGING and Tap usb debugging...
Then you follow my steps.
It worked but....
It looks nothing like yours at all?? lol
Hasnt got the battery life or even the Black wallpaper etc
Only thing that has really changed is the scroll up menu background is black and the bar going across the top which shows battery life etc is black...
How did you get all that cool stuff? XD

Hey, great work! Have you ever thought about making a mac or linux port? I'd really love to help you make one!
Email me: [email protected]
I'm going to try this. I didn't have much luck using the other one-click out there. But this kit can restore to stock, so I'll do that and try this rooting stuff all over again.
Does this work with the new 4.1.1 on nexus 7?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app
everything works great except, I'm not going through with the root. I get stuck on fastboot mode with a message at the top saying "Booting downloaded image". But no action happens. fastboot is frozen and my computer has a message "Waiting for your device to finish booting up..."
Any idea what's going on? The kit worked really well unlocking and locking and restoring stock
I tried all of this on both 4.1 and 4.1.1 and get the same stuck screen results on the root feature, regardless of flashing CWM or not, just plain frozen

Man, that was quick.. I thought I was up to date.. lol.. development is never ending. I will push an update out asap. Looks like I need an updated Superuser. Can you do me a favor and try flashing this in Temp CWM recovery;

Edit.. I just realized that you phrased that as a question. Try it out. It should work. No harm in trying. I included the latest SuperSU in the toolkit, and had success with it. So go for it.
Cheers

He did not get back at me, but maybe you can help me. Can you try replacing the modified boot.img in the toolkits data directory with this one instead: http://wug.rootxs.com/modified_boot_nakasi_4.1_JRN84D.img
So by default, you would place it here:
Code:
C:\Wugs_NexusRootToolkit.v1.5\data\modified_boot_nakasi_4.1_JRN84D.img
And then retrying the process. If that is it, I am going to feel very silly.

Cool, will definitely confirm if your fix works, will do a guide for the blog/YT and would rather use your guide than ADB since newcomers won't cope with ADB.

It's down because the new version is up. Check the OP. Once I heard you guys having trouble here I knew something was up, so I have been at it all morning and got a fix now. Version 1.5.1 just released. Such an epic fail of a mistake, so small.. yet screwed up my whole root script. Now everything should work properly. Let me know if any of you still have problems.

Cool. Thank you! I am pretty certain everything works now. I agree, sometimes people don't find cmd line utilities friendly, although to others they become second nature. My goal has been to make something as simple as possible, and try to explain it along the way.

If it works, this should be stickied, so that noobs like myself know the best/easiest way to proceed (there are already a few guides and toolkits, but this one seems to be much simpler!).

Rooting GT-S7562 without Odin &CWM

(Thanks go to 4pda. This is NOT my work!)
Hello every one!
In the last year I owned 3 Samsung phones: GT-5512B, S-III and S Duos. Well. The first one got some value thanks to the wonderful “Hatyon” Rom of XDA member Arbayong and the modified “Compact” Kernel of XDA member Deadly. I still own the 5512 but do not use. I found the second (S-III) stupid in design (accidental button press) and extremely stupid in software (sold quickly). No doubt, the catastrophic one was S Duos! I sold it for 30% of its new price! (The known shame to Samsung: Authentication error occurred, or saved, secured). No wifi. That was the last penny Samsung can ever earn from me!
Because I know the arrogance and customer bad handling of Samsung, that un-rooted Android is worth nothing, and some of you, who did the mistake and obtained this phone may face warranty problem (Counter which cannot be yet reset), I am putting together this Guide, how to root S7562 without to let Samsung service notice any changes:
REMEMBER! YOU ROOT YOUR DEVICE UNDER YOUR OWN AND SOLE RESPONSIBILITY!!!
Requirement:
1- Windows based PC (XP or 7 works fine)
2- The attached Zip-file “Root_GT-7562”
3- USB cable of your phone to PC
Procedure:
1- Unzip the downloaded package to desktop
2- Connect the phone to PC via USB-Cable
3- From Start, run cmd command. It opens a black window. Leave it open.
4- Open the folder “Root_GT-7562”, double click the file root.cmd
5- The results are then seen in the black window. Once finished close the window, disconnect the phone, find SU in application drawer.
Your phone is now rooted with Busy Box installed. You can install firewall; remove unwanted battery consuming worthless services. No triangle. Count=0.
You can update with Kis. If you must to service – flash the whole stock rom using odin. The counter moves only if you flash Clockworks or Kernel.
This method does not reset the counter
Freaking Awesome Man !!! nice job !! i am so grateful. it works like a charm.....:good:
finally, rooting without worrying about warranty
thanks a lot

No it does not. To unroot just use odin to flash any stock rom. No evidence ur phone was rooted. Use preferably .PIT file to format partition (I posted it somewhere in this forum before. Search).

This is normal behavior of most antis. Any file recognized to deal with "root" would be handled as virus (e.g. key generator). Disable the Antivirus, do your job and then scan for viruses and trojans. you will not find any of them. I checked all files with symantec.
Successfully Rooted thanks to All.
Will this work for htc explorer (pico) ??

Hi, thanks for this!
In my case I had to add a pair of ["] in the adb push line to point the correct directory/folder. Then it went well.

1-Windows based PC (XP or 7 works fine)
2-The attached Zip-file “Root_GT-7562”
3-USB cable of your phone to PC
Procedure:
1-Unzip the downloaded package to desktop
2-Connect the phone to PC via USB-Cable
3-From Start, run cmd command. It opens a black window. Leave it open.
4-Open the folder “Root_GT-7562”, double click the file root.cmd
5-The results are then seen in the black window.

Q: What do i need to do in order to install a custom ROM?
1.Unlock Bootloader from htcdev.com.
2.Flash a recovery of your choice.
3.Root using the permanent root solution flashed via recovery, found in Data/Root or select the Root menu and flash your desired thingy.
4.Flash custom ROM with no problems via recovery.
All those things are found and can be done via this tool.
Q: Hi, i just downloaded this tool, how do i use it?
First, extract the folder of the archive in the root of some partition, example above and somewhere below.
After that, run M7MultiTool vX.X.bat on windows, M7MultiToolvX.X-M.sh on MAC and M7MultiToolvX.X-L.sh on Linux.
Q: I see you talk about some M7MultiTool vX.X, is that an eXtreme edition or something?
No, vX.X will be replaced with the version from the title of the thread, this is made like this to keep things clean over future updates, so there will be no need to change things all around the thread after each update.
Q: Hi, i just bought a phone what should i do now?
Well, you firstly need to unlock your bootloader, just go to HTCdev.com and follow the instructions to unlock your bootloader.
Q: What is logcat?
Well, you can pretty much use google for that answer, but to put it short, is that thingy that tells you what is happening behind the scenes of your phone.
It is usually used for debugging and entertaiment(?).
When you report an error/bug to somebody, it will be a blessing to provide a logcat (logfile)!
Q: What is DMESG?
According to wikipedia: dmesg (display message or driver message) is a command on most Linux- and Unix-based operating systems that prints the message buffer of the kernel.
We use it for debugging purposes, providing it while reporting a kernel bug/error is a blessing.
Q: Hi, i have an unlocked bootloader, what should i do now?
Well, you should flash a custom recovery via bootloader, for that you just need to turn off your phone without fastboot activated, hold Volume down + Power button untill a white screen appears, if it appears a black one with some blue letters, you probably have a fake one
Q: What is a Custom Recovery and why do i need one?
A custom recovery is that thingy that let's you flash .zip files, use your logic and you wil get it why you need one.
Q: Do i need S-OFF on my phone?
HTC One has a nice unlocked bootloader, S-OFF is not needed as you can flash custom ROM's and kernels directly via Recovery.
Also, S-OFF is not available *YET* for HTC One.
Q:There are others guides/tutorials out there, should i check them instead of this?
If you manage to get things done using this one, no, otherwise yes, note that some could be outdated
Changelog: v1.1 - 23 May 2013 - Added Permanent Root flashing.
v1.0 - 23 May 2013 - First public release, providing recovery flashing, driver installer, htcdev.com code provider, cid getter, logging (logcat and dmesg), backup and restore, rebooting.

I know you need adb debugging on, don't know if it will work without root, you can give it a try, if it doesn't work, you can use Helium from Google Play, can backup even on non-rooted devices, but beware, i used it and for example CSR Racing couldn't be restored, so i remained with my online save, which was waaay behind.
Hope this helps.
@Lexmazter, luckily the games i have on my phone have not been started yet. only some emulators that have some real-time saves on them, they should be easily copied back and forth from the internal memory. probably just gonna copy all files from internal to pc and then copy them back after rooting then re-install the apps \ games manually.....................sudeki300

Well, you can try the backup and restore feature, as i didn't had the chance to test it on non-rooted phones and please report your findings as it will help me to improve the tool.
Thanks
Do people still use this tool? I haven't checked it for a while and i can see it has a couple of downloads, more than i expected actually. Should i update it and add new features?

[Toolkit] Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit v2.1.4 [Updated 01/16/16]: Nexus 7 (2013) Thread

Unlocking, rooting, relocking and unrooting simplified! (and much more!)
VERSION 2.1.4 - This program will automatically bring together all the files you need to unlock and root your device in a few clicks, or flash it back to stock and re-lock it. You can also use this program to backup/restore all your important data, flash zips, set file permissions, push and pull files, install apps, generate logcats/bugreports, and much more! With the included file association options, you can perform tasks like flashing zips, installing apps, restoring android backup files, and flashing/booting img files with just a double click! The program includes a full featured interface for automating tasks in TWRP, enhanced restore features, an in-built auto-updater/notification system, ‘any build’ mode, advanced restore features,’NRT- Live Log’ for viewing the adb/fastboot cmds that are run in the background, quick tools utilities, and tools for taking screenshots/screen-recordings. All the latest official Android builds and Nexus devices are supported. The program intelligently and selectively downloads the files it needs for your device and makes sure you are using the latest files available. The program can even auto-detect your device and build. This release brings full Marshmallow root support plus all automated features by utilizing a new system that no longer requires modified boot.imgs. Check out the updated changelog for a more comprehensive breakdown of the feature set and changes in this release.
~ my goal for this project is make the entire process as smooth and simple as possible ~

Thx Wug! I was wondering if you were going to update the toolkit to work with flo, and BAM! Here it is! Love your work, hope you keep at it. :good:
I did not chose twrp
I use 1.66 to root my nexus 7 (2012) and I did not check the (also flash custom recovery) first pass was pushing temporary twrp, and second it flash the twrp.
Why? I get a real problem with twrp with the 4.3 update, so I did not want it in my device.
Is this a bug in the toolkit? or there is a reason why the twrp is push without asking to flash?
Still the best toolkit I ever use.
You may want to change the main body font. It's almost impossible to read on the xda app with the dark theme selected

Thanks for your work. I first ran and used the "raw driver" install. Went to step 3 and ran the "check". "Success"! When installing Root & Recovery, it gets to the point where it says pushing root files to device, but when it's supposed to boot into TWRP, it boots into system "android man with red exclamation mark on his belly" mode. Tried it twice with the same result. Any ideas? I did notice that in Device Mgr "portable devices" isn't showing at all. However in Prompt mode, an "adb devices" shows device serial #. It's as if TWRP wasn't flashed correctly.

Thanks for the app! Unlocking went fine, I'm hesitant to root if it's going to leave me with TWRP even if I leave that field unchecked, anyone else have the same problem as Lachaine? Or has anyone successfully gained root and maintained stock recovery with this?

Yes don't forget to restart the toolkit before trying again. Worked for me when I did. Thanks wug!
Having an issue. Stock build# is JWR66N but is not listed, so i choose the closest one, JWR66V. So far it installed the adb drivers but fails on the Full Driver Test and Checking ADB Status. The device shows up perfectly now in DM, as a Nexus7, so the drivers have a clean install. Rebooted 2-3 times already. I can go to the adb command line and its installed but not sure why the app or PC doesn't see it setup right? I cant continue to the next steps if adb is not right...lol
