Zm4's Guide on "How to Install a theme using Chewitt's Installer
Well, I am not so sure if other themes use the same installer but I am just making a guide for this installer because I have seen people are to confused to understand.
Now I am using DarkSensous for 026. DO NOT TRY IF UNDER 026 UNLESS YOUR PREPARED TO REFLASH AND REROOT.
*NOTE* Make sure you extract the folder and do not do the installation from the .rar file.
Go to the bottom first and read all of that or you will be stuck in one step.
First you go into the the contents folder and click the installation which I show in the picture underneath.

You will see this.
Now you need to see if you have -rwsr- if you don't have -rwsr- then you need to do step 7 first.
Mines is already done when I first tried installing.
Alright now you will see this when you type 7 and enter in the CMD Prompt.
Mines is # but it is supposed to be $ since I have already done this step.
You need to copy each step one by one.
*DO NOT COPY THE $ SIGN* Just the text like it will show $ already and you just type in su and so on.
Once done you need to type in 2 for the application backup.
Just wait till its done.
Continue with typing 3.
After typing 3 and pressing enter this will show.
Just wait patiently.
Now type in 4 and press enter.
Wait patiently for it to finish.
Type in 5 and wait.
THE LAST STEP 6! :') I am so proud of you guys.
Just wait patiently now once your done you need to.
Now type in 9 and press enter.
Look at your phone it may restart on its own or you may need to restart it.
Enjoy your new theme.
Things to do before installing theme:
Root your phone.
When doing Step 7 if you are told to.
Make sure you have your phone with you to give permission to the su command.
I am not responsible for anything going wrong with your phone because I was doing the methods and installing a new theme just now.

You might want to include a link to the X10 drivers on the first page. I've seen a lot of people have problems with a 'device not found' error (myself included) even though SEUS is installed. I think it's mainly Windows 7 machines where the problem arises, but downloading and installing these drivers (using the device manager) seems to sort everything out.

I am bumping this because people need to see this.
during this whole process... are we supposed to connect the usb/phone to pc before hand... or we need to connect or transfer the theme to phone after a specific step???
how to root the phone?? how does it help??
Try the one click root method...
You can search the forums for the one click root method.
I used the universal androot to root my Xperia x10i.
Also you need to have your phone connected to the PC but it needs to be on debugging.
You go to:
Settings > Application > Development > USB DEBUGGING and Tap usb debugging...
Then you follow my steps.
It worked but....
It looks nothing like yours at all?? lol
Hasnt got the battery life or even the Black wallpaper etc
Only thing that has really changed is the scroll up menu background is black and the bar going across the top which shows battery life etc is black...
How did you get all that cool stuff? XD

Try running the CMD as administrator...
And did you use anything else for root?
If you used another application then install

And root your phone with it.

Hey everyone, basically just what the title says. I plug it into the computer via USB, and ADB will not see the device when it's booted into Android. However when I boot it into recovery, it sees it fine.
I'm running Cyanogen 9 for a rom and TWRP for recovery.
Booted into android:
C:\Users\Michael>adb devices
List of devices attached
Booted into recovery:
C:\Users\Michael>adb devices
List of devices attached
b3fe68e1 recovery
I've tried installing drivers, deleting drivers, reinstalling drivers, rebooting, countless times now. Samsung's own software Kies won't even recognize the phone.
I am able to use ADB over wifi with ADB Wireless.
C:\Users\Michael>adb devices
List of devices attached
10.0.0.99:5555 device
Oh, and I can turn on USB Storage and access the filesystem with no problems.. so that works fine.
Am I going crazy or has someone else had this same problem? Thanks everyone.
Sorry for the silly question but have you enabled it in settings? That may or may not help you:thumbup:

I should have posted that in my original thread.. but yes I have it enabled. I tried having ADB over network enabled just to see if it would help.. but it did't.
Is "USB Debugging" in the phone (inside Android) checked ? check this option and see..
PS:sorry if it is enabled ... ROM problem ? did adb work on stock ROM ?
Yep it is enabled. It did not work with the stock rom either and the only reason I know that is because my wife just got the same phone yesterday and I noticed it wasn't working while trying to root it.
Start all over again ...
Uninstall all drivers for the device and kies..
Install adb and USB driver for the phone and try again ...
You seem to have a software problem (a driver issue) somewhere around your PC (are you on Mac or Windows ?)

Yeah I agree it must be something to do with Windows. I will try installing the drivers and such on a computer at work on Monday and see what gives.
In the mean time I uninstalled everything and rebooted. Then I downloaded the drivers from Samsung's website, from here:
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...27_GS_II_Skyrocket_USB_Driver_v1_3_2200_0.exe
I also read this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415051
and the #2 article points to: ATT_i777_GS2_USB_Drivers.zip
So I tried installing that too. Still nothing.
I took a couple screenshots during the process, maybe it will raise a red flag to one of you guys because I certainly can't figure this out.
When I plug in my phone, the "Android" device is what comes and goes. I've tried updating the drivers for that and pointing them to the Samsung drivers directory, just says it can't find them.
I admit to still being new around the whole android development thing, but with Windows I'm pretty proficient, I just can't figure out what I'm missing.
Just out of curiosity, why do you need to access adb with the phone not in recovery? You can do push pull commands through adb even if phone is in recovery

Personally I just like being able to have access to use adb. I can still use it over wifi using "adb wireless" so it's not a complete loss -- but for some reason the fact that the usb isn't working is just bothering me.
I'm not going to spend much more time fighting with it.. I'm sure it has something to do with the windows and the drivers.

Hey I know this thread is a week old or so, but I just wanted to let you know I found the problem. The problem was actually the Cyanogenmod ROM I had installed.
I was having a few other unrelated problems with that rom so I decided to try SkyICS, and low and behold.. I can now access adb via usb.
Just wanted to put the solution forward and maybe it will shine light on someone else's problem.
Thanks again to everyone for all their help.

Not exactly a solution though, in that Sky ICS is still a TW-based ROM (as in, based off the stock ROM) and not an AOSP-based ROM like CM9 or AOKP.
I also had this issue. The problem was in fact a Windows driver issue though, even though I had installed them already. When I went to Device Manager it would always show up as generic "Android" device with no driver under "other devices". I right-clicked it, Selected "Update device drivers" and then I believe there was an option to select drive from existing installed drivers. I'm on my linux partition right now so I forget what the precise option dialogue was, but it was a separate option from the "Browse my computer" option. From there it opened up a long list and I scrolled down and found one of the Samsung entries listed. I believe it was Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (there were others like SAMSUNG in all caps, etc.). I then selected the driver from the list within that Samsung group and ADB worked again.

Most motorola gingerbread phones got rooted this way.
Don´t forget it could brick your phone! The percentage is low but it might be.

I hope you´ve runned SUTLR successfully otherwise it wont work.
Run SuperOneClick as administrator (right-click on SuperOneClick.exe -> run as administrator).
Before clicking on "root" in SOC set the Exploit (top right corner) to "ZergRush".
Be aware you´ve reconnected your phone after activing "USB-Debugging".
Normaly it should work if you keep the steps in mind.
Report if you were successfull

Yes, I tried the reset pinhole without results.
If i let the device to boot (second picture link above) and connect usb cable with pc, there are 2 drives that open up in explorer. I can neither access them nor format them.....

Actually the link you posted was not a rooted ROM but I have managed to unlock it using the following tool and procedure:
Yes guys. I managed to do it. And yes the application that may root this tablet is called "Android ICS Root Unlocker 1.0" Developed by GreekDev -11th July 2012
This is a Zipped file that you will need to unzip.
View attachment 1591923
Make sure that USB is enabled on your tablet and also USB for debugging option is ticked to ON.
Run CMD as an administrator and then write ICS_Root_Unlocker.bat
It is important that you run it from CMD.
At each tablet reboot wait before pressing a key to continue.
Before pressing key to continue enable USB again on your tablet each time it reboots.
If you have problems contact me by quick PM.....

You have to learn a bit more about Android.
It IS rooted out of the box, script just sat qemu property in local.props to already world writable /data partition and copied su binary and SuperSU apk. It did NOT utilize any exploit to escalate privileges. This is the way how devs prefer their devices set up when developing apps that don't require root but want to keep in control of their devices.
Brother, thanks for the info. I am developing in C sharp in visual studio. Also VBA, PHP, MySQL.
To tell u the truth, this is the 1st tablet I ever had....... so you may forgive me for this initial lack of experience.

May I ask if the patch I linked above, would root my device if it were with factory firmware.

Yes, script would work. You have factory firmware right now, too. Link I've posted is factory firmware.
As for the Android programming you'll need C for DDK and Java for SDK.
Keep in mind embedded programming is quite different from desktop/web programming.

Thank you so much....
Yes I know embedded programming is much more difficult. If I ever decide, I would probably go for the Java platform but not for complicated programs. Free time is quite limited here !!!

EDIT: Thread re-opened.
Great Tool, should help new users who are uncomfortable with fastboot and adb.
Any instructions for new users?
Like do you need to have your phone in bootloader mode <fastboot usb> plugged into pc?
Or when your phone is on, do these commands automatically reboot to bootloader and run?
If so, should the user have usb debugging enabled in settings menu?

All the buttons are pretty self-explanatory. Almost all of the buttons automatically reboot to the necessary mode, and tell the user if something is needed of them, such as enabling USB Debugging, choosing a file, etc.

Looks like a great tool for noobs look forward to some feedback I'll gladly pass on to such when I know all functions work! good job man!
Just like the all-in-one tool, but just simpler and looks pretty much more user-friendly. I'll try this tool with my friend's One S. Thanks to the OP. Great job!
Edit: and it'll be much more awesome if it'll have options like, s-on (from s-off), unroot, and relock bootloader.
Good morning.
Here I am, a totally newbie in the world of modding.
I bought the One S last year, and is still completely stock.
I would like to install a rom, but I don't know in which order should I press those buttons in the toolkit.
Thanks in advance

Yes i did ...i noticed that when i select and press reset to bootloader command, the cmd window appwears, do whats supposed to do, when i need to use another command, I need to close this window, so I can use the tool, if not, the tool cannot be used as it is unactive while the cmd window is open ...hmmm. it says device offline , i updated all adb stuff, everything is alright .. only when i choose to unlock bootloader option it loses connection with my phone , no matter that fastboot usb is shown on bootloader status screen..
Fixed it after managed to find the command line and did it manualy

You need to install the latest .NET framework from here.
Thats a nice tool you got there. Definitely should be put in general section once the full guide has been written.
At last, this phone is gonna be rooted... but... when i put the Device Identifier Token in the dev. page of HTC, it's doing something, followed by a blank page and nothing else. Don't even get the email with the unlock code.. what to do?
-=SOLVED=-
If you don't get a response from HTC or a blank page.

Ok, I have a problem with the adb, I tried many times but it still freezing and my cellphone screen too, I searched in the internet many ways to mount the system partition as read and write but all failed. Im thinking that the problem is the nougat version, I have the J1 and Im downloading the D1. Pst, the drivers and the cables are ok, I used another adb codes and they worked.
Seems like it only works on Qd1, so if have updated QI1 or QJ1, got to flash back to Qd1 to get it to work
...
I flashed DQD1 via Odin and after that, I flashed the .tar, but it still freezing my screen, I tried first without flashing the .tar because after flashing the firmware, the custom logo appeared. But again, the adb process failed, itsn freezed like the other but was unable to copy the su.img
---------- Post added at 07:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:13 PM ----------
I did the same process that you made, so, I don't know why this happen, can you please assist this?? The phone doesn't matter, I just want to prove if this really work. I'll be amazed if this really do.
I´m facing the same problem on my device as @NerdTronik , just frezes when try to remount system as rewritable.. No succes as yet and I'm on Qd1 with the same kernel version.. Dont know How you Got to succesfully Remounted the system..
Another one stuck scratching my head with the phone locking when the batch script gets to the first adb shell mount command. The flash to DQD1 (from here, all 4 files) went fine. Flashed the new boot image without issue, reboot reflects custom image. Enabled debugging, connected with ADB, but that mount would be the final thing that would occur. Hoping this is just something we need clarified in the instructions.
Ok for all of your problem tonight i will make a youtube video learn how to root with the proof of it ☺?
Thanks for the root! Tell me, after I get the root of what custom firmware I can put? I understand you only need the development of verizon?
I did a Google for the the boot image file name and came across this link:
http://www.techzai.com/eng-root-file-samsung-android-7-nougat/
NOTE: I accessed this via Google's cache, and with NoScript plugin in Firefox. The firewall I was accessing through blocked the site for a reason... unsure if that could be that it isn't safe, work just didn't want me going there during business, etc. Go at your own risk.
But one thing that was noted in those instructions was to not only enable USB Debugging, but to also enable OEM Unlock in the developer options.
The thread for the S7 (which I think would apply but we just need to use the later released S6 boot image) mentions disabling secure startup. https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039
Might have time to play around with this more during the coming weekend, but maybe @faw_wal or another member will get additional info before then.
Don't work in my phone

Oh nice, it's just seems impossible until somebody find the method to write in the system partition, in the thread you posted here, there was a man saying that we need to flash or do something before run root.bat, he didn't checked before but, sounds like a development.
