I never got my Xoom updated for 4g. It seems there is no development for MZ600. Two questions:
1. What roms work for my Xoom?
2. Is there a method for me to upgrade to 4g?
Thanks.
Basically you have options
I converted my xoom to mz604 (wifi only) to get all updates pushed from google, latest 4.1.2.
Or you can unlock bootloader, fladh custom recovery and flash any of the wingray and stingray (make sure stingray supports 3g).
I never activated my 3g, nor did i upgrade it. My current setup is in my sig at the bottom.
Everything is in this forum that you need to know....good luck.

Yes. I restored my backup until I figure something out.
Related
Last week I purchased a XOOM from a local importer (way less expensive than our telco's), but im not exactly sure what region its from.
Model : MZ601
Firmware Configuration Version : GAS_ASIA_USAEVRSTURTIRD_P037
Build Number: H.6.5-17-1
Has 32gb, 3g + WiFi , and also came with a UK power plug.
If anyone could identify what region my XOOM is from, or if its one of the GED models I've heard of (but im doubting its GED, I think they are just USA?
If I can find out where its from etc, then id know whether to wait for an official XOOM ICS update ofr it, or root & flash something custom.
Any help, greatly appreciated.
Thats a EU 3G Xoom.
And it likely won't be recieveing ICS from motorola or google for a while.

I suapected it was a uk model, but the firmware naming had me unsure. I had a look at the motorola xoom support site which lists the stock firmwares (always good to have a backup of stock just incase) but not sure which to download.
Us it worrh waitinf on stock for official ics, or is there a particular custom ics thats really worth flashing? ( bearing in mind im not that fussed on 3g capabilities at this stage.)

So I've gotten jelly bean installed on my Nexus S, granted I do have the Sprint i9020a CDMA version, I realize no radio was included, however, I flashed the latest radio that I had and JB doesn't see it, I used the i9020a version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784497
Is it just that there is a GSM version of the i9020a(didn't think there was) or is there something i'm missing, never had this problem before when flashing roms. Right now it says baseband "unknown". Which is telling me the ROM is only looking for a GSM radio I take it.

i9020A is gsm (the only diff with i9020T is the 850MHz for 3g). there was never an i9020a cdma version. maybe you;re confusing it with nexus S 4G (D720)?

Oh I see, well no I had read that 19020a was Sprint only, didn't know there was a GSM variant :/
So if I flash an AOSP version over this will it be ok? or should I just wipe and start fresh to be safe?
isn't the i9020a an att gsm phone? OP, remove your battery and tell us what it says on the phone itself. I'm thinking, along with others here, that you have the ns4g (d720).

Well, I did that and everything is good, however for some reason Google Play Music, refuses to see my music, and Settings refuses to see my ringtones, etc from the sdcard partition
edit:yes i did a full factory wipe when I installed as well.
I would start by looking through the thread of the rom you flashed. Sounds like you may just need to fix permissions or possibly wipe & reflash

Well this is ROM i'm using, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763781 and so far I'm not seeing any issue with that. I've done a fix permissions thing, I'll try a reflash and see if that does the trick, not gonna get my hopes up tho...
Edit: Well I've went back to my 4.0.4 version until things get straightened out...to many bugs to work with in these JB ROMS.....
I have brought an unlocked version skyrocket from at&t. Since I stay in India, we don't have a 4G and it's shame to say not even full 3G coverage here as of yet.
My question is when I move into 3G coverage area I see 4G instead of 3G and I feel battery drains quite fast during data usage under 3G (or 4G for phone). So I heard in Roger version of skyrocket and some custom roms allow switching off 4G completely ( 4G/LTE/HSPA+). So does cyanogenmod 9 allow such feature to disable 4G connectivity which is not there on at&t rom? Anybody who has already flashed CM9 on at&t skyrocket can reply so I can root this device and go for CM9 or other stable that allows such feature.
Thanks.

Into the topic,.. yes u can switch 2g/3g... you don't need to root ur phone... u can flash a recovèry using Odin.. then flash the custom rom... u get root if the rom is pre rooted... if not u can flash su... I'm using sky ics now but I'm unable to switch network mode.. people say it might b radio prob..
Pls post back if u succeed with cm9..
Thank u..

Yes, CM9 allows it. I'm on TeamChopsticks' CM9 and the option to switch is available in the Wireless and Networks setting.
However, do understand that you need a RAT unlocked radio. That's actually what allows you to switch to 2G on the skyrocket -- having a RAT unlocked radio. You can find a list of radios in this thread.
Hi!
That's what I was about to say: if I understood correctly what I read, having a ROM that allows you to choose between network modes (LTE/HSPA/GSM) is not sufficient. Your radio should also be unlocked -- like Rogers' radio. Changing the settings in your ROM when you use a locked radio -- like AT&T's radio -- would have no effect.
I've tried using this feature in CM9 and it doesn't seem to work. It was noted on their list of problems but I don't know if it was ever resolved. I have an unlocked RAT and I still can't get it to work right. Somewhat annoying because during the day I'd like to have it to save battery, but basically I gave up on trying to get it to work.

Sorry that doesn't seem to work. That may only work in Touchwiz based OSes, but in CM9 it's not doing anything.
Reported this belongs in q&a or the developers thread itself not in the general section.

Yes, I have rooted my new skyrocket with cwm touch recovery and flashed CM9 Stable version and it seems to working perfectly for me. .

I know it works on my ROM (EMBRYO) always had this feature since I travel to India it works perfect. You need to be SIM unlocked and a RAT unlocked RADIO (like any Rogers RADIO NOT ATT)..

You mean I need to unlock my phone in order to get this to work? I didn't have to fully unlock my Nexus 1 to do it. Is it different with the Skyrocket?
No you have to use a rogers radio rat unlocked isn't the same as unlocking the phone

Huh? I guess I must have worded it differently. You need to be SIM Unlocked AND have a RAT Unlocked radio, to change the preferred network mode (at least on I727)...sigh..

Ok I am now SIM unlocked and Rat Unlocked and it STILL won't toggle over. Any Ideas?
odin to rogers stock flash rogers stock ics modem first. Then root and install cm9.
If that doesn;t work try the same process just use rogers gb
the att modem does strange things with network selection. It works for me when I dont use automatic network selection

I tried doing the ODIN with the Rogers ROM and it kept failing. I had to then install a custom recovery and then flash CM9.1 and it still didn't work. Before trying this I tried another ROM (Embryo) to see if that could toggle and it couldn't either. :crying:
Hey all,
To be brief, my wife is mostly done using her Xoom 1, which means I can get my greedy hands on it to root/mod it etc.
My understanding at reading this forum is that there are several different versions of xoom (stingray, wingray etc.) And that my ROM I download needs to match it. My understanding is that I have a stingray which is a Verizon LTE one. My question is that since my 2 year contract is up, I will be discontinuing the network and only using the device on wifi - in doing so, does my device become a wingray or something else now? or should I plan on downloading and flashing some stingray rom even if I don't use the LTE?
I also saw that safestrap 3.1 was created, but the post I saw was specifically for the Xoom 2. I'm very used to and love this version of recovery from using it with my Bionic, and wanted to know if its compatible with the Xoom 1? Or do I need to use a different recovery? If so, which.
Sorry if these have been answered, but I didn't see the answers if so. And thanks a ton in advance.

It's still a stingray, it's possible to install wingray on it, but it's generally more trouble than it's worth if there are both stingray and wingray roms for the rom you want.
You probably want TWRP (touch enabled and the current version is recommended for the latest EOS builds,) for your recovery (nothing for the Xoom 2 is compatible with the original Xoom unless it specifically says it is, they are completely different.)
Very speedy and to the point! One of the many reasons I love the users on this forum! Thanks so much!

I have an unlocked and rooted XT926 and have been successfully installing roms on this regularly until the 4.3 roms have come out. Each time I install a rom that is based on android 4.3, they install and work but cannot detect the SIM card. It is like the device doesn't see the card at all.The selector is always stuck at NV and switching to RUIM/SIM does not stay set.
I can install 4.1 or 4.2 based roms just fine, either from a backup or by doing a clean install and have the sim card detected and data connectivity, just not any 4.3 based ones. Can anyone suggest a cure?
Resolved
I was able to resolve this. I had originally rooted back in December from stock with motochopper. That was apparently my problem because after I re-rooted using the Razr HD Utility version 1.21 all is fine in the world now. Let the flashing begin......

So my XT926 is running the latest PacMan ROM but I am restricted to 2g data. When I unchecked the 2g only box, the phone doesn't even register. I am using the Pacman GSM rom. I am using Net10. UMTS works with the stock rom but i thing i still need to do some digging to get it to work with the AOSP rom
Does anyone know if the gsm network for the xt926 works with later builds of cm 10.2 or cm10.2 based roms?
Best regards

I was just in Spain and tried to use a Vodafone SIM card in my Verizon xt926 (CM 10.2 ROM). The phone was set on Global and it detected the SIM card, but could not find any network. Updating the APN list did not work either. Sucks, thought the xt926 had international radios.

It does. The problem is with the ROM. Stock ROM works great internationally.
