i9020a radio 4.1.1 - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've gotten jelly bean installed on my Nexus S, granted I do have the Sprint i9020a CDMA version, I realize no radio was included, however, I flashed the latest radio that I had and JB doesn't see it, I used the i9020a version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784497
Is it just that there is a GSM version of the i9020a(didn't think there was) or is there something i'm missing, never had this problem before when flashing roms. Right now it says baseband "unknown". Which is telling me the ROM is only looking for a GSM radio I take it.

i9020A is gsm (the only diff with i9020T is the 850MHz for 3g). there was never an i9020a cdma version. maybe you;re confusing it with nexus S 4G (D720)?

Oh I see, well no I had read that 19020a was Sprint only, didn't know there was a GSM variant :/
So if I flash an AOSP version over this will it be ok? or should I just wipe and start fresh to be safe?

isn't the i9020a an att gsm phone? OP, remove your battery and tell us what it says on the phone itself. I'm thinking, along with others here, that you have the ns4g (d720).

1st make sure what model you have and flash the proper radio

Well, I did that and everything is good, however for some reason Google Play Music, refuses to see my music, and Settings refuses to see my ringtones, etc from the sdcard partition
edit:yes i did a full factory wipe when I installed as well.

I would start by looking through the thread of the rom you flashed. Sounds like you may just need to fix permissions or possibly wipe & reflash

Well this is ROM i'm using, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1763781 and so far I'm not seeing any issue with that. I've done a fix permissions thing, I'll try a reflash and see if that does the trick, not gonna get my hopes up tho...
Edit: Well I've went back to my 4.0.4 version until things get straightened out...to many bugs to work with in these JB ROMS.....

Yes, you have the latest (KB3).
Ithink it has nothing to do with CM7 because the radio is flashed separately, ok?

Yeah, CM7 doesnt replace your radio. You have to manually push it. Some ROMs may include KB3.

So my baseband it's still KB1, am I missing some great improvements by not flashing the latest baseband? And who developed the KB3 bb? It's trustful?
Thx.

KB1 is a different version of the same radio. I believe its for European models but it is the latest.

I don't think there's a difference between either americans or europeans models since they work on same frequencies.
I bought my nexus in England and used with O2, than I visited USA and used with T-Mobile and I live in Brazil and use it with TIM. He worked flawlessly in all above mentioned networks. All I had to do was pick the networks that used GSM and HSPDA frequencies supported by the Nexus chipset.
Anyway, I flashed the bk3 radio, so let's how he behave the next days. I was getting frequently reboots so far and all happend when I was using something controlled by radio... So fingers cross!

Nexus S 2.3.5

I hate that the nexus s and nexus s 4g have such similar names! It leads to questions like the following.
Has the android 2.3.5 update been released for the standard Nexus S? I mean the non 4g one.

No, it was only a fix for the sprint 4g reception issues, nfc and other bugs at this time.

There are some other improvements mentioned that may apply to GSM devices such as the speakerphone fix, enabling the secure element for NFC (Google wallet support), improved wifi connectivity (perhaps not isolated to CDMA devices) and TTY support. The 2.3.5 changes are being pulled into the CM build per a G+ post.
I don't expect an imminent OTA for GSM devices, but some of the AOSP changes (not baseband related) could be helpful for GSM devices.
Edit: Maybe it will OTA at some point in the near future: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16015703&postcount=7

wifi works perfectly no problems
i never had gps issues, my phone always locked with in a second or 2
and with this ROM it does the same thing, it locked my location within 2 seconds
it also uses the new Market
try it, you can always revert back if you don't like it you can always restore your backup

Hard to answer because "out" is rather vague. There are not different Androids for different phones. The main gingerbread code is at version 2.3.5 and can be built for NS or NS4G or many other phones. But it has not been sent by Google to any phones besides NS4G.

I assume you mean the OTA and not the code. If you mean the OTA, it will roll out over several *weeks*. It is flagged by IMEI/ESN - once you are set for an update any subsequent checkin will yield the OTA notificaiton. Until then you will not see it.

I727R radio and rom???

I took my rogers sg2 lte i727R to a guy who I'm assuming flashed a telus radio. I had him do this that I can use it on WIND mobile and it works 100% on WIND. My question is can I upgrade to ics or even a custom rom without losing or disabling what he did.
model number
sgh i727r
android version
2.3.5
baseband version
T989DTLKJ3
kernel version
2.6.35.11
build number
GINGERBREAD.RUXKJ7
I'm also wondering if there is a different radio or modem, whatever it may be that I can flash that would work a bit better than this one. Thanks guys.

CleanROM recommended add-ons, what are they?

Recommend add-ons by Beanstown106
I535VRBMB1 Modem can be found HERE!
I535VRBMB1 RPM can be found HERE!
^^^ What are these? They're the "recommended add-ons" by JellyBeans at the bottom of the CleanROM post. Anyone know what these are. Is this a radio and something else?
Just curious, if I should flash these or not.
newest modem & radio/
flash them in ^this order////
The VRBMB1 modem and rpm were included Verizon's OTA update from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2. From what I've read, most people have experienced better data reception after flashing these, but some think it made things worse. I've flashed them and don't notice any difference in data, but possibly better GPS reception.

When I first got my S3 for Christmas, I immediately upgraded it to 4.1.2 and then rooted about a week later and installed CleanROM a day or two later! As of right now I'm running JellyBeans 13, but when I check the baseband version it says VRBLK3....should I update the modem and radio to the newest one? I'm always the first one to say if it ain't broke then don't fix it....are there any real benefits? Everything works great for me....Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, etc...

[Q] Extracting radio/modem from GB2.3.5

Hello, my wife and I both have SGH-I727 (ATT)..they are both unlocked. I use ATT she uses Straight Talk wireless. I have GB 2.3.5 (UCKJ2), she has ICS.
The radio/modem/gps on ICS sucks. In GB is just fantastic. I want to extract the radio from my device, then either CWM apply it from a zip file to her or via ODIN.
How can I do this?
I did find the ATT UCKJ2 modem/radio which on some forum which I was able to apply to her phone via CWM, but the code was apparently locked to ATT and therefore Straight Talk Wireless did not work.
I would therefore like to try to extract it from my phone and apply it to hers.
I have searched and searched but have not found a way to do this. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
THanks!
Have you checked if the apn is the same for the phone that works and the one that doesn't? You may have to manually input the apn.

jd...thanks for the reply...after I flashed the UCKJ2 ATT radio from a thread I found here, I did not check the APN settings. Maybe I did not make it very clear but my ATT SGH-I727 (GB 2.3.5) was not used at all to flashed the Straight Talk (ST) one (ICS). That is what I am trying to do. However,
if you are saying that flashing a new radio may change the target phone APN settings, understood. I can try to flash again (I restored everything back from a CWM backup I had taken before the flashing) and then check the APN settings after the flash to make sure they are still there and correct.
thanks!

I may be wrong, but I don't believe any of the radios are locked to att. It's the phone that is locked. If you got a no sim error it was probably a bad radio flash. If you look for vincoms one stop sticky in the development forum you'll find links to all sorts of radios.
