The Bards Tale - Xperia Edition - Xperia Play Themes and Apps

I purchased this game ages ago. But now noticed this.

I am a little annoyed. Its only perk is xperia users get 6k gold. But only if you buy this version. I love this game but annoyed we have to rebut it to get this gold perk. Why not just give it to xperia users who bought the original.

Damnit, one of the only games I have actually bought and they do this :L
Then I'll stick with my beloved emulation from now on xD

There are more games like this, i've noticed Mini Motor Racing has an Xperia version too. I've found this out after I upgraded to Sony Xperia P and then I clicked on "Sony" in Google Play. I have no idea why they're doing this but I am not paying twice for the same game just because it says Xperia in the title. Btw I've gone back to Xperia Play after a short time with P, was rather disappointed with that one, mainly due to some of my games being incompatible.

What is thaty gold used for? Is it in-game gold, used to buy items, potions, etc. or is it some IAP gold for cosmetics?
If it's in-game then why would you even want that, it's practically a money cheat to make the game easier. Doesn't seem like a legit reason to get annoyed about.

They're doing it for users who don't own the games. In the forum where I was listing all the Xperia exclusive sales I picked up a bunch of the games since I had not owned them and thought they looked entertaining enough to buy at a discounted price.

That's the consequence of shelling out dollars too early. I bought the Xperia Edition just 10 days ago and I am very satisfied. Good thing I didn't buy the other version.

xpera controls map view
I have had an xperia play for a few motnhs now, I cannot believe how good this phone is or how it failed!
Just got the bards tale and I cannot bring up the in game map view, does anybody know how to?
Under help there is the map option with an hour glass symbol under interface, I also dropped my phone and turned the map on and could not turn it off.
So very frustrating, its doing my head in. Can anybody help?

The hourglass is the space between the two analogue/touchpad controls. Give it a gentle tap and see what happens

The hourglass is the touch-sensitive area between the left and right touchpads. Tapping it cycles your map view between OFF, ROUND on UPPER RIGHT, and FULL MAP.

Thanks guys, a little embarrassing. Its amazing how I could be so blind to something right infront of me. I spent minutes looking at the xperia looking for a button i had possibly missed.
I am a gamer right from playing and coding basic cards for my commodore 64, so I am not new to this sort of stuff, in this case i am an just an idiot

(Not XP related) SEGA Renews Skies of Arcadia trademark

I know this is not related to Xperia PLAY but it is Sega related and as they have released a few sonic games for our phone I thought I would share this as it may turn out to be something for our phone... unlikely but you never know.
http://www.technobuffalo.com/gaming/platform-gaming/skies-of-arcadia-trademark-renewed-by-sega/
I'd say its pretty likely given Sega's excellent support for mobile phones and we have JSR coming up soon. The game only takes up about 2 gigs of space and I'm sure if they felt like it they could compress it a bit beyond that. Cool find though, always great to see some DC love.

Agreed. I still have my DC and my original copies of skies of Arcadia, grandia 2, shenmue 1 & 2 and about 60 other games. Love the DC. Such an underrated system that never got the attention it should have.

Oh yes, I believe we've had this talk but the DC sits proudly on my desk at all times connected to my hdtv through a vga adapter for the perfect picture (blows away the ps2). I actually had a copy of SoA I bought at a pawn shop (for a really good price btw) but it ended up not working and I couldn't repair it so I ended up trading it in at the same pawn shop for E.G.G. (This pawn shop was a ****ing treasure trove of Dreamcast ****, got my PAL Shenmue 2 there!). Btw, if you haven't played E.G.G. its a really great hidden gem for the console and one of my favorites.

E.g.g. is awesome RPG. Elemental gimmick Gear. Great game. And I have always like the Evolution games. Too bad they didn't make any more. I bought the last one made for the gamecube and its not very good. Like the series ran out of gas which is unfortunate. And yes I have my VGA cable box as well and yes it gives awesome picture quality. I also really enjoy the Starlancer game as its made hy the same people who made wing commander on pc. But its notbas good as wing commander. But iblike it because incandescent still play online with it. I bought the sdcard adapter for my dc last year. Lets you play games from the sdcard. Only thing I would love to get but is out of my price range is the broadband adapter. Sigh.....one day
SDcard adapter... mine is not a cable but rather plugs right into the back where the NeoGeo Pocket cable used to go. Got mine for $20 from TaoBao (its like a chinese ebay, have to have a chinese bank account, good thing I still have mine from when I was ther for 6 months 2 years ago. on a side note Buyfromtaobao.com lets USA people buy from that site, there fee is small) The SD adapter is very nice.... you can use the SDcard software you burn on a CD to copy the game form the disc to the SDcard, its slower then snot and takes all night but its a nice way to back up a GD ROM disc. Anyways... shutting up now... see you got me in my old DC emu scene mode.....

No, it's not been improved any, from what it was.
Well, I hadn't played the JP version but I can say the Play controls work well enough but the lag is **** awful. Messing with settings right now but even no sound and low resolution don't seem to do the trick.
Would certainly not recommend this at $9.00. If you have an overclocked device give it a go but I can't find a way to make it run like anything but ass on stock.
Holy ****! Wish there was a demo to try.

Game runs fine here on stock GB, sim free, rooted uk R800i, no lag, no sound issues, looks, plays and sounds as good as the DC original.
Slide the pnone open and you can use the D-Pad, and screen buttons or mix it up and use touch for move, and physical buttons.
Dunno what your issues are, but it's fine here.
Maybe reboot your device, or clear some crap from your phone/check whats running when the game is played..
And run G-Gee offline, that's more bother than it's worth.
I bought the Japanese version, which sits at game version 1.0.0, same as the Western version, it's just the G-Gee programme that was updated, not the game with the recent update a couple of days ago/Western Release.
Not ideal but playable on my xplay, levels work great, but some slowdown during the first two bosses.
Perspective is very disorienting

Cook, but a couple of inconsistencies with your review(on your site).
The ships are white and black, not red and blue, same with bullets(although the black bullets do have a red.hue to them).
And please don't mention the Gamecube version, it was an abomination, IMO.
It may be a shooter, in the sense you shoot things, but it's more of a bullet ballet, and memory game, as knowing where and when to chain, is vital, for a decent score/decent game, with attack patterns and boss patterns having to be foremost to enjoy the game.
Also, as you know, the game is available around the world, so you don't need market enabler any more to buy it.
And if you play with the network disabled/internet off, G-Gee doesn't hinder gameplay, and you get a screen that you just press the "Play" button to get to the game.
EspGaluda II and DoDonPachi Resurrection are another two titles worthy of your money, to add to your shooter collection, BTW.
Cool, thanks for the feedback. I made the video review a while ago for another site but it was never used. I decided to branch out on my own and I needed a starter article while I work on other aspects of the site so I threw that up real quick. Of course that very day the Global version comes out, I figured it would be best to leave the references in there seeing as how it was the japanese version I originally reviewed. I probably should update it though.
Well hopefully someone gets a video of it running on the Play because even after a clean reboot it runs terrible on my device. How do you run G-Gee offline btw?

Brian, click on Legion's link to his site..he has it running on Android in the video in his review, it's not a Play it's on, but that's how mine runs, smooth, no lag, and plays just fine with the D-Pad slid out, and using the onscreen buttons for fire/change, and laser.
As to G-Gee, Just disable your wifi or your data connection.
Start Ikaruga, the G-Gee screen appears, and it should then go to a blank screen, with something like "Network Error", or "No Network", in the middle, with a logo top left, and as *mine is the Japanese version*, on the top right, I assume it says "Play Game",
Hit that, game starts, and to end it, long press on the back button and select Exit.
This, and DoDonPachi Resurrection, and EspGaluda II all run fine offline with wifi/network disabled.
In the video it runs quite a bit better than it does on my device but there is still a lot of choppiness. I'd love to see that same phone playing level 5 since each level (due to the increasing amount of enemies) runs slower and slower for me. Either way, if mine ran as well as the device in the video I'd probably be a lot less angry but I still wouldn't call it a great or even good port.

I't's the same as the original version, so I wonder how could it be any more towards "good"?
Ok sure. That is a Galaxy S3 right? It does not perform to my liking on an incredibly high end phone even though the hardware is more than capable had more work been put in to the port. JSR, Expendables, Crazy Taxi on the i-products have all translated well to newer devices (not using the Play as a benchmark here, keep in mind). It is a $9.00 application that is attached to a social networking program, something which I find very irritating. There are no game-play limitations like you would have in Ikaruga for the DC or GC since the game defaults to free-play with a level selector. Changing resolution settings and turning sound off does very little to help with performance which screams of bad port. When playing at the lowest settings the frame-rate becomes incredibly jerky since the game does not have a very good frame limiter. DDP and Espgaluda 2 both worked great on my device but this port clearly has not received as much love.
Works relatively well in my one x, it jinks a bit here and there, but it's mostly very playable.

It performs just fine on Xperia Play, so something must be wrong at your end, either bloatware on your phone, or your operator rom/custom rom is rubbish, something interfering with it like apps/software running, or your memory card is either fragmented, or just plain slow.
I use a 32gb class 10 card, stock uk r800i sim free, no bloatware, rooted, a couple of sound mods edited build.prop, and nothing else.
Once you get past the "social networking" programme, the game itself runs directly from the SD card, hence the 170+meg download, it doesn't run from the phone, the .apk that is a couple of megabytes is G-Gee's app, with a link to the game.
The ports fine, it's designed for touch phones/tablets, what more do you expect?
The chaining/gameplay is something that was intended to use buttons and a stick, not swipe controls and 3 areas of touch for fire/lock on/change, but with the phone open the D-pad works well, and the on screen buttons work fine for their purpose.
As to free play, how many people do you imagine want to sit for 10+ hours or whatever it was to unlock things, and up their credits, like the original.?
You don't have to continue, you don't have to pick other levels other than the first, but for those who do, who maybe never unlocked everything, or can't/don't play for hours, it's perfect.
As to your earlier slowdown point, you are aware the original version had deliberate slowdown, and this is present in this version also, which leads me to think this is closer to the original version more so than the 360 ports new coding.
The only thing this version is missing is Shinra walking towards Ikaruga, on the startup screen.
And as to DoDonPachi, and EspGaluda, they're not on par with what ikaruga is, as it's full 3d rendering, etc is hardly a patch on 2d spritesm even though there is a ****load going on..heck some emulated old titles fling around similar amounts of bullets, and sprites.
save backup
can anyone provide a titanium backup for ikaruga 13.01.01 i was playing this game yesterday but after opening the game again game screen just went black i dunno what happened . .tried reinstalling but still the same. thought maybe because my phone is rooted or something. i will try your titanium backup file and see if this solves my problem :/
Just to confirm: is the game Xperia Play optimized? Or do you have to use gamekeyboard?

Terraria for Android!

I don't think it's XPO, but it's definitely worth playing even with the touch screen
Noticed this on playstore yesterday and it looked interesting. Its not XPO at all but still a fun free game.

I don't think I can tolerate playing it
Maybe we should email the devs for xperia play optimization? I think it could work quite well with our touchpads (not for block placements), it would justify a purchase for me.
I cant see this game working well with any controller. I have played the PC version to death and it needs a mouse to point and click. Controllers (sticks/touchpads) wont be the same.
If you think it would be, you havnt played the PC version! The precision for some weps you need cant be done with a stick, and digging will be more cumbersome than point what you want to get rid of including blocks behind blocks.
Touchscreen controls I can see working better than a controller due to the reasons I said above, but on a small screen its horrible. I played this on my Note 10.1 and I gotta say its better, but horrible.. it needs a mouse and keyboard :/
Just my two cents ^^

I have the PS3 version of Terraria, there isn't much precision as you said, but it's still fun and playable, especially with multiplayer with friends. The controls for the XPlay could be similar to the PS3's, if it does get XPO'd.

Golf GPS thoughts?

I picked up the Sony SW2 as an impulse purchase when Best Buy had it on sale. I have a few days to return it and just started to look into it's benefits.
One main thing is I had hoped it would have a golf GPS app, similar to the Pebble's tie to FreeCaddie. I have found one app that seems limited, called GolfDistance. It's not exactly golf season here in the northeast so i can't test the app. Does anyone have info on this or thoughts on an app being developed in the future?
I considered buying a dedicated Golf GPS watch, but thought the Sony SW2 might eventually provide a similar experience.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
TIA
Wow, I have the exact same questions! I thought about getting the Garmin S3 as well, but why not get a smart watch that can do other things for the same price. I'm leaning more toward the Pebble2 however. I would return the Sony and wait a few months to see how the app situation developes. You can't golf now anyway and the SW2 might drop in price if you want to rebuy it later.
Thanks for the reply. I ended up keeping the SW2. Kind of ran out of time to return as i had surgery on my foot just before the return window shut. Maybe I'll get lucky and someone will release a GolfGPS app as summer approaches. If not, at least I'm still enjoying the watch.
freecaddie!
Update....
Available now in the Play Store, Not fully tested, but picked up a local course from home.
Freecaddie SW2 Ext
And Freecaddie
Not allowed to link, sorry.
This should be great for courses you're familiar with. Yardage to front, middle, and back of each green. AFAIK, only distance to green, not other hazards.
Sorry if I should have edited my last thread comment instead.....

Thoughts on the Moto gamepad

Hello everyone,
I've read some reviews on the gamepad mod, and I'd like to know if any of you had bought it.
I'd use it in public transportation so a cheap bluetooth gamepad like this one https://img.tvc-mall.com/uploads/details/84020147A-1.jpg is too big.
The moto gamepad seems like a good/ok piece of hardware, but the price is a little hard to swallow. Is it worth it in your opinion?
Thank you for your replies.

I have gamepad in my possesion, and i can tell you'll be fascinated about how *well* it works, espacially in games. It just feels like you're playing on a PSP.
Your Moto Z wont fall outta the mod, because the gamepad holds the phone tight. I also like the little red lights an the shoulder buttons, which could be useful for you at night. It's well luminated. The battery holds for a whole day and can be charged by the c-port. This will also charge your phone.
The only contra i could find is the support in games: Most of the "good" gamepad games are powered by Gameloft. I dislike 80% of the games that are listed in the gamepad-app (imo), but it's only a matter of time to the devolopers to "pick-up" the support for the moto gamepad.
In conclusion: A nice gamepad to play games on, but the selection of the games are bitter at the moment.
I hope i helped you with this post!
I have it. Used it for few weeks for Tony Hawk on PSP emulator. It took me few hours to remember Tony Hawk and get used to controller. I think price (I payed 50$) is right, since it feels very well built and form factor is quite compact (doesn't add width of the phone only ~doubles thickness and add few centimeters in height). Only downside of gamepad is that it's a bit too small for long gaming sessions (3hours+) - after few hours non-stop playing you can feel a bit in your thumbs because they are bent all the time.
Nowadays I only play rhythm games on my phone so controller is not as useful.
I would recommend it to anyone who is into emulator gaming and plays mostly games which work great on joystick.
Thank you for your replies. Good to know that the build quality is solid.
Regarding the games available for it I don't really care as I'd mainly use it for emulator gaming. (I don't have the cash right now for the Switch )
So I think I'm gonna wait a little for the price to drop, it's 90€ in france right now, and not a lot less on ebay
I have one. It´s very cool, but the games that I wish to play are´t avaliable on Moto Game Explorer, like nba2k, pes or fifa...
And Like Bomberlt said: The thumbs kind hurt after a while playing.
