Just want to make sure if the nandroid backup & restore is really working on Sensation with latest CWM since I have made a bunch of backups and I am heavily messing around with the phone for the past 48 hours lol... Just to be sure this backups are going to actually work in case I screw the phone...

Yes.... Works great.

Do remember that clockwork /nandroid restore will not restore the kernel. If you flashed a rom that's using a custom kernel, you will need to flash the stock kernel before trying to restore your backup or you will get stuck in a boot-loop.
Thank you both! Just wanted to confirm!

Yes, I'd love to know this along with how to get a copy of the original kernel....or is the kernel in the .zip files on the regional oem rom thread?
not working for me
You can find the stock kernel in the second post in the Android Revolution HD thread over in the development section.

isnt the boot.img the kernel and init stuff? i was under the assumption it was backed up when you do a nandroid on most devices (like HTC). the RFS file system samsung uses on their devices prevented us from backing up and restoring a boot.img file so we have to always have a kernel in case of the good ol boot loop
so to go back to stock kernel, i install it to the sd card then flash it in recovery right?

Yeap... That's how you flash a kernel, but not needed if what you want to do is restore from a nandroid backup... To restore just select the nandroid backup you want to restore. No need to flash any kernel prior restoring from nandroid.

since when do you have to reflash a stock kernel in order to flash your backup? I have tried every rom out here for the sensation didn't like any of them and reflashed my backup of stock with no issues....

This is not true. Nandroid contains the kernel image.
You would only have to flash a different kernel AFTER you restore, if you don't want to use the one that you backed up.
To the point, nandroid restore works perfect with 4.0.1.5 CWM. I confirm.
Getting mixed signals here guys. Does nandroid backup / restore the kernel?

I had this prob yesterdqy,,
You need to flash the original stock rom before you can flash another rom..
Flash the "S5670XXKPI" stock with ODIN,, after that, your SGFit will be fine... You can flash other rom qfter you flash the original rom..
Good Luck!..

I installed stock ROM S5670XWKTI. After, I installed CWM. Via CWM I can install customize ROM, but I do not want a custom ROM than the stock ROM. All custom ROM have bugs. For me the most stable stock ROM. For example. for me on the CWM not work mount / system, cash, etc.
Yesterday I tried on stock ROM install 14 toggles Galaxy Fit , but before that the CWM has to go to mount / system that does not work for me.
You cant mount system via cwm on stock rom because to mount system, it must be ext4 witch is not in stock rom.

Dude, the CWM by Tj style is for the ext4 system... and the stock rom is RFS..
You should flash the CWM by Vish coz it support the RFS system , not the Tj style vers..
Cmiiw..

you guys CAN install CWM v5 by tj_style in stock ROM, but it CANNOT backup stock ROM wich is RFS, if u on stock ROM and then install cwm v5 via odin and u can directly flash custom ROM via CWM
CWM by Vish coz link for download

i recently rooted my I9100G,installed ROM manager and did a current rom backup.
I then installed cm9 Rc2 on it..
now how can i restore the backup ROM that I created..
I know about Nandroid restore but people say that it can HARDBRICK your phone..
please help how can i go back to 4.0.3 from 4.0.4..
I was using 4.0.3 xxlpq ..
Help will be appreciated .....
PLEASE HELP..:crying:
VJ
download the firmware you want to install from samfirmware.com
and install it through odin
Just open ROM Manager and go to Manage ROMs & backups. Select your backup image and click on restore. ROM Manager will do the rest for you and you'll be back on 4.0.3
If that doesn't works boot into recovery goto backup and restore and select advanced restore from card and then select your backup image. Both ways will do the same thing but try the first method first. Thank me if I've helped you.

Why you dont make a twrp backup instead of a cwm backup? To make a backup i recomand twrp had issues with cwm. Anyway if you did a backup with cwm try to restore bavkup, i had trouble with it.

In Darkroom V3 topic is "take a CWM BACKUP", so I did cwm backup Anyway I have TWRP backup so I'm safe
It isnt very important wich backup you do, you are saver with an twrp backup too much people have trouble with cwm backup

I have been using android since a yr or more on my xu. I never created a nandroid coz sony fw was mere 300mb and i used flashtool to flash stock... bt I got a s2p now wid stock fw as large as 750mb which I cant download.
I want to try cm10.1 bt I have no stock rom flashable via odin
So if make a nandroid backup now.. so can I restore it to get back to stock when m on cm10.1?
you mean backup with cwm? yes. make backup, flash cm, if you do not like cm or somethin went wrong with installation restore the backup with cwm and you are back to stock. but do not delete the backup.
