download the firmware you want to install from samfirmware.com
and install it through odin
Just open ROM Manager and go to Manage ROMs & backups. Select your backup image and click on restore. ROM Manager will do the rest for you and you'll be back on 4.0.3
If that doesn't works boot into recovery goto backup and restore and select advanced restore from card and then select your backup image. Both ways will do the same thing but try the first method first. Thank me if I've helped you.

I tired to do that but the only options it gives me is
reboot system now
reinstall packages
delete all user data
delete cache data
there is no backup option.
You need to root your phone first and install clockworkmod recovery. After that you should have the option to backup your current rom. Search for superoneclick to root your phone then download rom manager from the market and flash cwm recovery from inside the app. After it downloads cwm recovery and installed. Boot into recovery then backup.

hi ,
I have tried the method but my mobile is not booting up. and it is showing samsung logo and i got stuck. I think my phone is bricked please help me in this matter.
Boot in clockworkmod, select 'backup'. It will backup your current ROM in /sdcard/clockworkmod. When you want to restore just boot again in CWM and do restore. Flash stock rom, if it boot loops and you can't enter recovery.

what did you use to back up your file? did you use a nandroid back up? if you want to get your rom back to official you can try to find a official rom on htc website or other website and try to flash it using ODIN.

You'll just have to reflash your original rom.

Hi.
You can't backup your STOCKROM because the filesystem isn't EXT4, it's RFS (ReiserFileSystem) on STOCKROM. CWMR is only compatible with EXT4. If you flash a CUSTOMROM, CWMR will first format the phone to EXT4 and then CWMR will flash the CUSTOMROM.... If you need RFS-FileSystem Support, you need Vishwana's CWMR 3 or AMON-RA.
Greetings....

You can't backup stock rom. But you can have the firmware file with you so that you reflash it through odin if something goes wrong (other than bricking).
Don't ever try to backup stock rom through rom manager. You'll end up Bricking your device. Don't even try to wipe data or cache through CWM if you are on Stock Gingerbread coz in my case, the device bootloops endlessly. If this happens, remove battery & insert it, then flash any custom rom through CWM, then your phone starts normally!!
BEST OF LUCK!!
