ok, so i follow all the steps from the link given, but instead of using the outdated rom given, I replace it with my 4.1.1 for UK and 4.0.4 for UK,
am I correct?
[Step 8. You can root your new Note 10.1 using the CWM root method. Watch the latter part of the video tutorial above if you are having trouble.]
can I skip this step?

Ok just replace the rom with 4.1.1 flash it using odin as shown and stop dont do anything else. Root if you only want to because it will increase your flash count and void your warranty though there is a solution for that to

Most safest/recommended way to root?

Hi,
I have the Galaxy SL i9003 phone and have decided to root it.
I'm quite a novice when it comes to these things so please bear with me.
Could anyone advise me on the safest and most recommended way to root my phone?
I've heard horror stories of phones being "bricked" after rooting :crying:
I would like to use a program that will let me "un-root" a phone also if need be.
Thanks.
If you probably could find the one-click root method for your device, it'd be best. Or if you're running below gingerbread version then install the Z4-root app for rooting/unrooting your device.

I haven't messed with the phone at all.
It's got the same software/hardware when bought.
I hope this helps.
Gives us your details go to settings about phone and give everything then i'll guide you on how to root it and the miracles of rooting. Dont be scared of that rumors. Rooting will not really brick the phone if done correctly.

@skatylup after downloading (Be sure you have kies already) then follow the guide here pal, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787 just follow carefully. The latona.pit is in XXKPE folder. Its an easy step by step process. Once in XXKPQ, Root it with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351056 download bagaria.tar then flash in odin via PDA. (should be in download mode again.)
After doing above instructions, Go to Recovery mode w/c is volume up + home +power. Then wipe cache and dalvik cache. Then your good to go. Your now rooted and can try different custom roms.

i recommend you use ODIN.. from the very first day i was a total noob in android, i've always used odin..
relatively, you can search your firmware here and MATCH it to whatever CF Root available
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331253
also, you can use amit.bagaria's Root.
i attached.
if you use amit.bagaria's root (it's universal, meaning you can flash this root to ANY gb firmware)
all you need is Odin and your usb cable and COMMON SENSE
1. go to settings>applications>usb debugging
2. go to download mode: turn off phone>volume down+home button+power off button (hold them all at the same time until it goes to download mode)
3. connect phone with usb to pc
4. open odin
5. see if odin recognizes your phone (at the upper left, there's a yellow box)
6. click PDA and choose the file amit.bagaria (the one i attached)
7. click start
8. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING UNTIL THE ROOTING FINISHES
9. wait for the phone to restart
10. congrats, you just successfully rooted your phone
if anything goes wrong, you did something stupid. lol, im just a buddy trying to help you out

Thank you for these suggestions.
However, they all consist in flashing a stock ROM and bootloader onto the device, overwriting the current setup.
Do I really need to to this, given that the current bootloader is stock (never flashed it, not needed with the method I used) and the ROM is 100% stock also (came from OTA). I am really curious about this thing and would like to understand what went wrong, instead of just overwriting everything and starting over.
Anyways, the suggested method should be fine in case i need to return the tablet for warranty purposes. That was my primary concern. Thanks!

When you you root you replace stock files and add some new files that are detected by the installation process of the OTA updates. This sets a flag to block further updates from Samsung. You can still update by restoring to stock then getting the updates then rooting again, but OTAs will not be automatically delivered to your device while its rooted.

[Q] AT&T S5 (G900A) Soft-Bricked / Freezes on Boot Logo using any ROM

I'd appreciate any help to get my phone working again. I've only had it for a couple of weeks and I'm hoping I haven't completely ruined it...
I'll try to recall the exact steps I took to get to this point:
First, towelroot wouldn't work to get root due to me accepting the OTA update to 4.4.4 android. So I found on a forum post that you can use Odin to flash the stock kernel and then towelroot will work. So I downloaded the stock kernel and flashed it successfully using Odin. Towelroot was then able to work with success. After that I installed SuperSU and busybox. Then I was using this guide (URL omitted due to forum rules) to install SafeStrap recovery as I'd read CWM recovery didn't work for the G900A model (AT&T). Safestrap seemed to install OK and when I rebooted I was able to get into the SafeStrap software interface. From there, I attempted to flash the CM12 nightly build to the "stock rom" slot (I'd read there was some trouble using the non-stock-rom slots in SafeStrap). That operation completed with success, but when I tried to reboot, it froze at the CM12 splash screen. I tried this with a few more custom ROMS and they all do the same thing (freeze up on boot logo / splash screen).
I've tried using Odin to flash back the stock firmware. As long as I didn't try to flash the bootloader (BL) Odin shows "PASS". However, when it reboots it again hangs on the Samsung splash screen.
So at this point, I've flashed all stock firmware to the phone (except BL) and it freezes and then goes black screen on the Samsung splash screen. Also, it no longer shows the SafeStrap "recovery / continue" bootup screen since I flashed the stock firmware.
Any ideas on how I can get back to a useable device?...

I tried flashing with the full firmware package I downloaded (4.4.2 G900A stock firmware) which included a *.pit file inside one of the tarballs. I used the PIT/re-partition option and everything succeeded except it still freezes at the Samsung boot logo.

I did it and installed rr 6.0 and its smooth as ****(at least for now) and so you can add to the thread that roms work and the method works too
Can I use the tar.md5 file in this tool also?? Like Odin?
Doesn't work. If you have flashed ANY THING on your out-of-the-box firmware, it will give you lag whether you flash/format and reinstall STOCK rom. If you can feel the smoothness again, don't get too excited, the lag will come again within 15 days.
Once you flash there is no going back.
It just install the very first firmware of the phone. This won't make difference tho

And it takes I thing more than 30mins to flash the ROM. And after testing the ROM is extremely laggy and I found resurrection remix way smoother than the new PAC ROM

AT&T Galaxy S8 Oreo OTA update file

All,
I just checked updates and am in the process of downloading a file that is 1548.94 MB. My guess is it's the Oreo update. How can I get the update.zip for you guys to download?
Current Baseband version G950USQS2BRB1.
It's downloaded but I have not allowed the restart to proceed yet so I can possibly pull the update for you guys. I am not rooted.
What version are you on?

Sorry stoopid rules for links and crap... Just replace ">" with "." and the http part should be obvious...
But I just use odin and do a fresh install because you can just use SmartSwitch to back before the update and restore apps and what nots after you know the update worked Better safe then sorry anyways. A failed OTA update on an S4 landed me a Brand new replacement phone once! Or you can try to flash Home_CSC instead of CSC to keep your files... I don't like that option myself...
Full ODIN

Should work with All US carriers. Make sure you use the right USERDATA for YOUR carrier!!
