[Q] Samsung Focus 1.3 and Clean Rom with StraghtTalk - General Topics

Well finally all my Samsung Focus's are off of AT&T contract and I am am moving them over to StraightTalk. The first one I moved three months ago to them still doesn't do MMS due to Samsung not exposing the settings and Samsung locking down the old way of breaking into the file system and dropping the XML.
I was thinking about flashing the Clean ROM 2.01a on one of the phones and then trying to get MMS working with that one under StraightTalk. Anyone have any recommendations for have made this work for the Samsung Focus?
Thanks...

I got it to work!
After a couple of house piecing together information from a few other posts here on XDA I the Focus 1.3 updated to Tango using clean ROM and was able to side load the StraghtTalk package and MMS works great. Only downside is that I had to erase the phone such is life. Now I only have to update two more phones.
Here is the steps that I took:
Get the files needed
Download clean ROM 2.01a from XDA Developers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528984
Get the Samsung drivers from XDA Developers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956
Get the new bootloader from XDA Developers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22278269
Get the StaightTalk XAP from XDA Developers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35737150&postcount=263
Windows Phone 7.1 SDK for Windows Phone Deployment: https://dev.windowsphone.com/en-us/downloadsdk
Get the installs going
Install the Samsung drivers
Install the windows phone SDK
Install New Bootloader
Put phone into upload mode: POWER + VOLUME UP + CAMERA
Launch the bootloader install: DFT_MLI_SAM1.exe
Follow instructions
Wait till successful and reboot phone
Install New ROM
Reset the data in phone: 'Settings' -> 'about' -> 'reset your phone' -> 'yes' -> 'yes'
At screen off hold VOLUME DOWN + CAMERA
Use the "Cancel" option on the screen: "<-" Back arrow
You should see the new bootloader screen
Plug phone into computer
Run DFT_WPI_SAM1.exe from Clean ROM directory
Follow instructions
Will take a long time to boot with the white bar advancing
Initial setup of phone "Microsoft account" etc. Also connect once to Zune to name phone as before
Phone is now ready to use leave plugged into computer and Zune running
Set Phone Up for StraightTalk
Phone will probably be pin locked so best to run the WindowsBreak from the phone: http://windowsphonehacker.com/windowbreak
Click "WindowBreak Me"
Tap on "windowbreak" A browser window should open up. Ignore it.
Launch Diagnostics on the phone Dial *#9908#
Select "windowbreak" from the dropdown list
Press Save and reboot the device
Make sure phone is still connected to Zune
Launch application deployment from sdk
Deploy the straghttalk XAP (rename from zip to xap) before deploying
Go to diagnostics and dial *#9908#
Select StraightTalk from drop down
Press Save and reboot phone.
Test a MMS and you should be all set

How to Root Desire w/ HBoot 1.06

Have a US Cellular HTC Desire CDMA.
Android 2.2
HBoot - 1.06.0000
Radio - 2.15.00.11.16
Unrevoked method of Rooting fails.
Other thoughts?
Unfortunately, I do not have an answer. I am having the same issue. If I find anything I will pass it on.
Okay I've got temporary root at least. An app called visionary, not available on the market so google that to find a download, it is a one click solution. Temp Root option works but Permanent Root does not. It takes longer to boot and has to run every time you turn your phone on. Kinda a pain but its steps in the right direction.
So as I was searching the Cyanogen forums I got a suggestion. It ended up working great for me. I ran Z4root. I ran the app selected the permanent option and let it run for about 2 min. It will just stay "rooting". I shut the phone off and restarted it. Once the phone was loaded I ran SuperUser and it ran fine. I ran AdFree, Quickboot, and Titanium backup. the only issue is with Titanium back up and it only restored some apps before closing. Not a big deal because I only wanted a few. I think it would work if I backed up on 2.2 rather than bringing 2.1 saved app with data and try to restore on 2.2. All credit goes to dontbrickit on cyanogen forums. I used the quickboot and rebooted the phone and I still had root, so it does not seem to be temporary.
I tried z4root with no results. It says rooting, goes through the whole process then reboots. No root after. Temp root feature doesn't function either. Are you running the newly released uscell rom?
HBOOT 1.06 fail
Although I have never posted I have followed the works and efforts of the very skilled developers and pro-active user for some time now and I would like to say my hats off to you all, this is by far one of the most productive and progressive communities have seen yet, I digress. I’m having an issue with hboot 1.06 also, I was running CM6 (very happy with it I might add) but when uscc came with the OEM 2.2 I rolled back to 2.1 so that I could go forward with the provider update. This process went fine, I cleared tcash and sys cash wiped and installed OEM. Turns out uscc OEM sucks bad. I only did it for htc sense and it s NOT WORHT IT. HTC sense is cool but not worth the internal memory loss I have taken. CM6 had me at over 275mb free on fresh install, OEM 145ish….FAIL. not to mention its laggy as hell on the surface. So want to go to CM7 the issue is when did the OEM it broke my hboot, when go to recovery it takes me to some blue text I can choose but its update.zip CC, reboot and factory reset. I have used clockwork 15 ways, tried 3 htc syncs that all connect but the same thing happens,,,, when any of these apps get to the hboot it does the same thing BLUE TEXT, I have tried to port old backups as well and nothing can get past this broken hboot 1.06. any suggestions?

Info - I have a US Cellular Branded CDMA Desire. I have owned it for 3 months. Came with 2.1 Eclair, I was unhappy waiting for 2.2 so I rooted and flashed a couple different roms. I ended up with a Custom Froyo w/ Sense and a few Gingerbread features. I found out about update release for US Cellular so before updating I reset factory settings restoring phone to stock Eclair. Took phone to store, they upgraded to Froyo I played for a few days until I wanted to reroot my phone. Unsuccessful on at least 5 different tries with both Windows/Linux and many different options of unrevoked and settings. Found out that 1.06 HBoot was unsupported by unrevoked. So I studied what other people posted about their attempts and ideas. Found one person claiming to have rooted theirs. Unfortunately he did not give many details in his post about the exact process. Here are the steps I took to successfully root my phone.
Backup any data, media, programs you wish to your SD card.
Transfer your backup from your SD card to your PC.
Go to Settings>SD & Phone Storage
Click “Unmount SD Card”
Click “Format SD Card”
This will clear anything you may have saved to it, which might interfere with rooting/flashing
Once Formatting is complete
Click “Mount SD Card”
Now it is time to reset phone to stock 2.2
Go to Settings>SD & Phone Storage (You should already be there, unless you went back/home)
Click “Factory Data Reset”
Click “Reset Phone” in next menu
Phone should reset and reboot bringing you into a tutorial (US Cellular, unsure on other carriers)
Skip through all prompts
DO NOT edit/change/add anything
You should now be at the Home Screen
Go to Settings>Applications>Development - Enable (Green Check) “USB debugging”
Go to Settings>Applications - Enable (Green Check) “Unknown Sources”
Go to Settings>Connect to PC>Default Connection Type – Select (Green Circle) “Charge Only”
Go to Settings>Connect to PC – Disable (NO Green Check) “Ask Me”
Press Home Button
Put Phone Down
Leave Phone On (Do not power down) & Do Not Touch Phone until Told To
Your phone is ready to begin rooting.
You can attempt to use Windows if you really wish, but I find Linux to be a no-hassle idiot proof OS. Many people run across issues with either drivers, or sync, or possibly other factors.
Linux solves this issue by having an all-in-one OS. It already contains the drivers needed, and does not require installing or uninstalling of anything.
Evidently there’s a **** ton of options when it comes to Linux.
I used Ubuntu Desktop Edition 32-bit
I recommend using the same because my steps follow that.
Go to Ubuntu Dot Com *I can't post links yet"
Ensure Latest Version (10.10 when guide was made)
Ensure correct bit (32 or 64)
Click “Start Download”
If 10.10 32bit (693 MB)
If 10.10 64bit (695 MB)
Once download complete you will need to Burn the ISO as an “image” to a CD.
If unsure how to do this seek help elsewhere (it’s very simple)
You should now have a bootable trial Ubuntu CD
If your Internet is Wired you are set to continue if Internet is Wireless Router I recommend obtaining unrevoked because restart.
If Wireless
Go to Unrevoked Dot Com *I can't post links yet" and click “Download for Linux”
Save to Desktop
Once complete transfer “reflash.tar.gz” to USB Stick Drive
Remove Stick Drive
Insert Ubuntu into CD drive and close drive
Take steps needed to ensure Boot CD is activated upon restart
Once ready restart PC
CD should boot and “Welcome” screen displayed
Select “English”
Click “Try Ubuntu”
You should be brought to a “Desktop” containing two icons “Examples & Install Ubuntu 10.10”
If Wired
Click “Mozilla Icon” on the taskbar on the top of screen
Go to Unrevoked Dot Com and click “Download for Linux”
Open “Reflash.tar.gz” and Extract to Desktop
Close ALL open windows
Go to Applications>Accessories – Click “Terminal”
In the “Command Prompt Looking” Window type the following lines each follow by “Enter”
cd Desktop
chmod +x reflash
sudo ./reflash
Please Leave Terminal open
Unrevoked 3 should now be open
Connect USB Cable to Computer
With USB Cable connected
Connect Phone to USB (Yes you can now touch your Phone)
Unrevoked should recognize Phone and a “Prompt” should be displayed
Click “Ok/Yes” whatever it says I forgot I was so excited to not see another FAIL MSG
Sit Still DO NOT touch ANYTHING
Be patient phone will reboot multiple times
Should eventually see Phone Boot into the HBoot Menu
It will install clockworkmod
Phone will enter recovery menu
Unrevoked Window will hopefully eventually say something like
“Complete Safe to Disconnect and Reboot”
NOTE – Both my Terminal on Ubuntu & Recovery displayed multiple “Installation Aborted”, “Update Failed”, “ERROR”, and “Unsupported” lines in the log.
At this point you should be Successfully Rooted, and safe to reboot.
Superuser should be displayed in the app list
I’m not sure in what order I did what but I installed “Titanium Backup Free Edition” “Busy Box” and “Root Check” and played with each until Root Check displayed that I had both “Root Access and Busy Box Installed”
I do hope this works for you as it did for me. I refused to stay “unsupported by unrevoked” until a fix was available. I will try to help anyone with clarification in steps, or any questions/problems. I did find out that a version of Linux called “Slax” is available that has “root permissions” contained already. Which eliminates the entire “Terminal” step making it unneeded?

The reason that this worked for you was because you have previous used revoked and are now s-off. With s-off, you can reflash recovery and superuser without unrevoked being supported. Others will probably still have an issue.

Does not work on USCC HTC Desire CDMA with HBOOT 1.06 that are S-ON.
We need a way for those of us USCC HTC Desire users who have Froyo as a stock ROM with HBOOT 1.06 S-ON to get that set to S-OFF. Currently no product to do so exists and while I was pointed to the #bravoc IRC channel by the users at #unrevokedtest, there wasn't anyone home. Though I have been reading at AndroidForums that someone named Matt is currently working on one. I'm not going to hold my breath at this point...
I think unrevoked is working on it. However, it could be awhile till a new exploit is found.

Anyone with the 1.06 HBOOT should try out this exploit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
It says it may work on some Froyo builds and it is the first new exploit I've seen in awhile. I say give it a shot.

wont fix the s-on problem according to the first post, so even if you get root access it'll be removed once you reboot :/

It is possible to have permanent root access without s-off. The goal of getting root is so a custom recovery can be installed.
ah, so what can be done with root access when you can't access the system folder to make changes? Or am I missing something about the whole process...

How to Root
This was a hard & long trial to get this phone rooted. Though, it's a very simple way found by me and yuweng, thanks bro!
Based on yuweng's tutorial : MT6577 CWMR Root Updated V2[/b]
Download these and follow the tutorial:
ADB.zip - http://www.mediafire.com/?11cbu388oqu8amw
All the Drivers I could find - http://www.mediafire.com/?wfr5fgkxkdau6w4
CWMR Recovery's.zip - http://www.mediafire.com/?2r30o428558h22q
MTK Rom Studio 1.1.77.146.zip - http://www.mediafire.com/?h22puc8kac6axv7
SP Flash Tool v2.1134.00.zip - http://www.mediafire.com/?ob5caeigzc1ga10
SP Flash Tool v3.1224.0.sn85.zip - http://www.mediafire.com/?5u29nf4fp4omw9n
Root_Superuser_3.1.3_Busybox_1.20.2-Update1-signed.zip - http://www.mediafire.com/?fee3e7cta5mg3fp
- Setting up the folders and phone (to make it easy)
1. Create a folder in C:\ called "GooApple"
2. Extract all the ZIP files EXCEPT "Root_Superuser_3.1.3_Busybox_1.20.2-Update1-signed.zip" to "C:\GooApple\" so you have 6 folders in GooApple.
3. And copy "Root_Superuser_3.1.3_Busybox_1.20.2-Update1-signed.zip" to "C:\GooApple\"
4. I prefer doing a factory reset before doing this.
* Factory reset can be found at Settings > General > Privacy > Factory data reset > Reset phone
5.Now enable Unknown sources, USB debugging and Stay Awake.
* Unknown sources can be found at Settings > Store.
* USB debugging and Stay Awake can be found at Settings > Store > Development.
6. Make sure all drivers are installed properly. Some might install when connecting the USB.
7. Turn off your phone and unplug your USB cable from the phone (Let the USB be in your computer/laptop)
- Backup your own recovery (not required but suggested)
8. Open "Flash_tool.exe" from version "3.1224.0.sn85".
9. Click on File > Open Scatter-loading file, then browse to "C:\GooApple\MTK Rom Studio 1.1.77.146" and open "MT6573_Android_scatter.txt".
10. Click on the Read back tab (top). (If there is anything in the list, please Remove it.)
11. Click on Add and double click on the ROM_1.
12. Now type recovery.img at Filename, then browse to "C:\GooApple\MTK Rom Studio 1.1.77.146\SPFT_UPLOAD" and click Save.
13. In the popup, select
* Type: Hex
* Read Method: Read Page Only
* Start Adress: 0x980000
* Length: 0x00500000
And click Ok
This info can be found when loading the Firmware.info in MTK Rom Studio
14. Click on Read back. Now hold the "Volume -" button and insert the USB in your phone. It should say OK at the end.
Now you have a backup of your original recovery.img in case you want to restore it.
- Installing CWM Recovery (REQUIRED FOR ROOTING!!)
14. Go to the CWMR Recovery's folder, then choose if you want the Standard CWM or the Touchscreen CWM and copy the recovery.img included to "C:\GooApple\MTK Rom Studio 1.1.77.146"
* Standard CWM is controlled by Volume up and down. Touchscreen CWM is controlled by both.
15. Open "Flash_tool.exe" from version "2.1134.00".
16. Click on Scatter-loading and browse to "MT6573_Android_scatter.txt" in MTK Rom Studio and open it. (Click OK on the popup)
17. Now make sure everything is unchecked EXCEPT "RECOVERY". (Don't forget that your phone should be turned off and unplugged.)
18. Now click on download and insert your USB cable. It should say OK at the end.
Now you have CWM Recovery installed.
- Rooting the phone
19. Start your phone and connect to USB Storage Mode.
20. Copy "Root_Superuser_3.1.3_Busybox_1.20.2-Update1-signed.zip" to the ROOT of your SDcard. And turn off USB Storage (but keep your USB in)
21. Now boot your phone into recovery mode. There are 2 methods, I prefer method #2 as it's more safe and works most often. (Someone's phone kept vibrating while doing method #1)
* Method #1:
- Shut off your phone (wait untill it vibrates to make sure it's completely off).
- Hold the "Volume +" button and the "Power" button.
- You now are in recovery or your phone keeps vibrating.
* Method #2:
- With your phone on, start "cmd.exe" as administrator on your PC.
- Type "cd C:\GooApple\ADB" (without the "") and press enter.
- Type "adb reboot recovery" (without the "") and press enter again.
- Your phone shall reboot in recovery.
22. In recovery, select "install zip from sdcard", then "choose zip from sdcard" and select "Root_Superuser_3.1.3_Busybox_1.20.2-Update1-signed.zip". Select "Yes - Install ..."
* Recovery Controls (Standard CWM)
Volume + = UP
Volume - = DOWN
Power = Select
Home = Go to +++++Go Back+++++
23. Once completed, select Go Back, and select wipe data/factory reset.
24. Now select "reboot system now".
And here we go... Your GooApple V5+ is Rooted !
Thanks again yuweng for the support !

How to Increase Internal Memory - INT2EXT method (ROOT required)
"INT2EXT on MT6575 / 77 for the extreme gamers !" for GooApple V5+ thanks to yuweng !
- NOTE: THE PHONE TENDS TO BE SLOWER AS IT HAS TO LOAD FROM THE SDCARD
Based on yuweng's tutorial : http://www.mediafire.com/view/?7zjz4onhos826bk
Download and/or install and extract these:
MiniTool Partition Wizard (Home edition) - http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html
INT2EXT-mtd.7z (Includes install-recovery.sh) - http://www.mediafire.com/?16psto1xqw4b0s0
Notepad++ (To edit install-recovery.sh) - http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.2.3.html
ES File Explorer File Manager - https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDEsImNvbS5lc3Ryb25ncy5hbmRyb2lkLnBvcCJd
BACKUP YOUR GOOAPPLE V5+ WITH CWMR
1. First I installed and opened MiniTool Partition Wizard and mounten my SD card (32gb & Class10) with going in USB Storage Mode.
2. In MiniTool Partition Wizard, I selected my drive and resized it from 29gb to 26gb (FAT32).
3. Then I selected the remaining 2.5-3gb and created a new partition : Primary , Ext4 , 4kb. Don't forget to click Apply at the top left.
4. Then I extracted INT2EXT-mtd.7z and installed Notepad++.
5. With Notepad++ , I opened install-recovery.sh and changed unbind to bind in lines 61, 66, 71 and 98. Then saved it.
6. Now I copied the EDITED install-recovery.sh to the root of my /sdcard/ (Location when you open your phone).
7. Having ES File Explorer File Manager (EFEFM) installed, give it Root acces via the Settings at the bottom (check everything at root settings).
8. Next, select install-recovery.sh in EFEFM and copy it to /system/etc/ and give it full read/write/execute acces.
9. After this is done reboot your phone. For me, after the first boot it just shutted off. So then I had to power it on again and I had 2.6gb internal memory.
Hooooorah ! :good:
Thanks again yuweng for the files, info, tutorials and time !

Tips&Info
- Make 3 backups of your phone through CWM Recovery because some might get corrupt.
- Use Titanium Backup Pro or a similar tool to remove unused/chinese system apps.
- The MTK6575 can be compared to the PowerVR processor. So the PowerVR games work on the GooApple V5+.

Change BUILD.PROP for more compatibility of Apps&Games
Your phone is being recognized as a Android Alps phone which a lot of apps don't even recognize.
So the best thing you can do is change your "build.prop" a little to increase the compatibility.
For example, yesterday I bought N.O.V.A. 2 which says it's not compatible (but it is).
1. Open Root Explorer or something similar.
2. Go into /system/ folder. Make sure the folder is R/W.
3. Press and hold on build.prop then select "Open in Text Editor".
4. Next, change the following.
- ro.product.model=GT-I9000
- ro.product.brand=samsung
- ro.product.name=GT-I9000
- ro.product.device=GT-I9000
- ro.product.board=GT-I9000
- ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
5. Then go back and it will ask you to save it. Save it.
6. Now reboot your phone and try again with more compatibility !

GooApple V5+ Manual
Thanks to "Q" for looking up this valuable information !
How to take a screenshot:
Tap both the "Home"-button and "Power"-button simultaneous. If you have sounds activated, you'll hear a shutter sound.
How to force restart:
Deep at the bottom of the 3.5 headphone jack there is a restart-button. Use a small tool like a bent paperclip or toothpick to reach it.
You can use this restart-button if your phone freezes and can not be restarted using the normal power-button.
THIS IS A LIFESAVER !
Recovery-menu explained:
The Recovery-menu is a boot-menu that can be used to backup, restore, clean cache or change ROMs in your GooApple phone.
This menu can be either in English or Chinese and may vary slightly depending on what type of Recovery came pre-installed on your phone.
You can install a different Recovery-menu on your phone like CMWR / TWPR
To access the Recovery-menu:
- Turn off your phone.
- Press and hold the PLUS-button and POWER-button on your phone until you arrive at the recovery menu.
NOTE: Depending on ROM and Recovery-version, you may actually need to press MINUS-button and POWER-button to access the Recovery-menu
Factory-test-menu:
This can be used to test the hardware functionality of your phone.
To access the Factory-test-menu:
-Turn off your phone.
-Press and hold the PLUS-button and POWER-button on your phone then lose it and hold it again after the vibration.
NOTE: It doesn't always work so you really need the perfect timing.
Navigating the user-interface:
This menu you can close running apps on the background so pretty usefull sometimes.
- Double-tap the "Home"-button shows running/standby apps and possibility to close apps by long-pressing icons in deployed menu.
- Double-tap the "Home"-button at the unlock-screen will show you the music player and a button to quickly acces the camera.
- Hold the "Home"-button to acces Wallpaper and Settings faster.
- Pressing the "+"-button when using the camera will take a picture.
NOTE: Double tapping must have some kind of pace in pressing these 2. If you do it too fast, ut doesn't work.. but too slow, it doesnt work either, so it has to be right.
- "Long-pressing" an icon in the menu makes the icons jiggly so you can change the position of your icons by dragging them to a desired position or on another icon to create a folder.
- "Long-pressing" the MINUS-button can bring up a menu in some applications. - UNCONFIRMED
Trouble hanging up a phone-call?
- Holding the phone vertically during a call turns off the screen (if the light-sensor has been covered).
- Holding the phone horizontally for a few seconds, will turn the screen on again and display the "End call"-button.
NOTE: Make sure you never double-tap the "Home"-button during a call. It will minimize the calling session so you will still be calling in the background. So make sure you always press the "End call"-button.
Change user interface language
If you cleared user data when installing a new ROM, the phone is likely to boot up in Chinese. Follow these steps to change it back to English:
- Press the Settings-button (you can probably identify this by its icon).
- Select the 9th option (General)
- Select the 8th option (International)
- Select the 1st option (Select language)
- Select your language.
NOTE: If you want some influence of your native language, you can install MoreLocale2 from GooglePlayStore. Some apps will be in your native language.
How to change the IMEI-number:
To change the IMEI number, you most likely will have to use MTKdroidTools from MediaFire.com.
It has an option to change the IMEI number but for this, you will need:
- the ADB drivers to be installed.
- A new IMEI number with what you want to change the original one.
- Phone connected to your computer.
How to add more Ring, SMS, Notification - sounds on your GooApple:
- Connect the phone to a computer in USB Storage Mode.
- Create the following folders on your SD-card:
- Ringtones
- Alarms
- Notifications
- Move your own sounds into the appropriate folder.
- Adjust the sounds-settings on your phone here:
- Ring-tone: Settings>Audo profiles>General>Voice call ringtone
- SMS-tone: Settings>Auido profiles>General>Notification ringtone
- Alarm-tone: Enter your Clock-app and add a new alarm and you should be presented with ringtone-options.
How to remove the backcover and change the MicroSD:
You might want to remove the backcover to change the MicroSD card or maybe even to change the cover.
To remove the cover:
- Unscrew the 2 screws at the bottom of your phone. You need a special screwdriver for this.
- Slide the back cover up once the screws are removed.
To change the MicroSD:
- Having the cover removed, you will see the SD card to the left of the battery trapped in some aluminium cover.
- Slide the aluminium cover to the left and now you can remove the SD card.
To put the cover back on:
- Put the cover back in its place, then drag it down (instead of up to remove it).
- Put the 2 screws back

And can anyone with a GooApple V5+ please try this to fix the GPS signal?
1. Charge your phone completely (100%)
2. Download and install Mobileuncle MTK Tools from Google Play.
3. Go to Settings > Location Services and turn off everything here. Also turn off WiFi.
4. Now turn off your phone. Then turn it back on and enable WiFi.
5. At Settings > Location Services
- Enable : Use wireless networks.
- Enable : Use GPS satellites
- Enable : GPS EPO assistance -> Go into EPO Settings and check the EPO file info if it's downloaded, if not, make sure you're connected to the internet and uncheck/recheck Auto Download.
- Enable : A-GPS
6. Open Start Mobileuncle MTK Tools and go to Information and click on Full , then Cold and go back to Satellites.
7. Go outside/window/balcony and after a while, the red dots should become green.

They say it works for MTK 657x models but it doesn't work for me. I keep getting red dots instead of green.
Drivers
Hi,
My Gooapple V5+ arrived.
I'm quite lost since no manual inside and this is my first android.
Regarding the rooting issue, I first decided install drivers. As I read, the process is connecting USB to PC and wait for Windows to ask something and then navigate to MT6575 USB VCOM drivers forder.
However, Win7 recognized V5+ as an Android device and installed some drivers, including "My HTC" (?)(!)
Now I can access SD card and maybe something else (I have no idea what) but I can't connect to internet through USB
The big quiestion now for me, in order to root the phone, is how to install drivers properly, bcos we have:
drivers preloader MT65xx
Android ADB Interface
MT6575 USB VCOM drivers
usb_driver
usb_driver_MT65xx_Android_ZTE_v821
I have a Win7 x64 laptop
About the GPS, I have just attempt fix my possition with "MAPS", but despite I downloaded some file, I can't fix possition bcos I'm indoors now.
Thanks for any comments
I'm not sure how the USB thetering works but I'll look into it.
About the drivers. I do it like this: plug it in, then choose the DRIVERS folder and let it choose automaticly.
Android device is correct, but I haven't seen the HTC one though, I'd recommend uninstalling that one.
But really , it can do a lot if you just plug it in, let it search the driver automaticly (don't select any specific folder, just DRIVERS if you really need to).
Also the VCOM driver is more for when you're about to flash your recovery through SPFT which it will install automaticly.
If you need any "personal" help on rooting it, feel free to ask, I'll support you via skype/facebook/teamviewer.
And I too am using Win7 64bit
It seems that Win7 installs a Google pack of USB drivers when detects Android devices.
Maybe this one I found:
softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Google/Google-USB-Driver-Revision4.
And bcos GooApple is not in the list, Win7 chooses HTC that has 6575 chip aswell.
I will try to uninstall "My HTC" but Windows prefer this to any in the DRIVERS folder, perhaps is more up-to-date.
Any way, automatic driver download/installing maybe problematic with this phone.
Thanks a lot for support. I will need some days to become familiar with the phone before the next level
Thank you, is a very useful guide ! :good:

Ehm it shouldn't say GooApple V5+ in device manager.
For me it says Android Phone > Android ADB Interface and when I turn on USB storage, I just get Portable Devices: G:\.
So yeah, strange it uses HTC. And sorry that I cannot explain properly how to install the drivers because I just installed a few drivers , uninstalled some and installed some other and it worked.
But the most important thing is that the VCOM driver is installed. Which will automaticly install once you try the *Read Back* method. OR this might work too:
Turn off your phone. Plugin the USB cable in your computer but not in the phone (yet).
Now hold the Volume + button and then insert the USB cable into your phone. I think now, it should install the VCOM drivers automaticly.
And no problem Anhuc ! I haven't had time to test some things as I'm in a period of getting a job for the rest of my life
Drivers Problem Fixed!!
Well, for some reason my V5+ only accept VCOM driver if press "+" when plug-in USB in phone OFF, as you suggested.
If connect USB to PC with phone "ON" it ONLY accepts Android ADB Composite Interface, as you said.
So thanks everybody for suggestions and comments. I thing the first challenge overcome :good:
PS:
About the HTC driver I had first, maybe it was bcos I had MOBILE-EDIT software, wich installs many drivers, so I had to remove it from ControlPanel/Pograms/Unistall
But after it, connected phone to PC and it installed automatically "My HTC" driver again
So removed driver from DeviceManager and also removed Google Android USB Package from PC execiting "pnputil.exe -e" in command prompt, to see the OEM# of package, then removed with "pnputil.exe -d Oem#.inf"
Seems extrange but works great. (see details here: technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730875.aspx)
I have taken some screen shots of this in case someone need.
Hope may help people with persistent drivers....

Good to hear that Q and thanks for sharing the information on what was causing it !
It can always help someone else out who has the same issue.
Anyways, I guess you can get to the part of flashing the phone with CMWR right?
I suggest jus reading the first part of the Rooting untill installing CMW and start there as thats the basic thing you need to do as the files I uploaded already include the patched recovery.img.
To see some pictures, check this out : http://www.mediafire.com/view/?8mxvy0ey5yfdu59 page 16 thats basicly how to Download recovery.img to your phone. But always follow my tutorial or ask me to do it for you
GPS without signal
Yes, I downloaded averything from v5+ tutorial and carefully read and understood this excellent work.
However, manage GPS to work is my priority now.
Is there any light in the dark?
I tried and tried, downloaded EPO files, used MTK Tools and even installed an iGo My Way version compatible with Retina screen.
One hour in the field and only saw a little signal bar of one satellite (if it was a satellite) but no points (red or green) at all in MTK Tools.
Have someone seen at least a single pretty point in the grid?
Thanks for any help.

Ooh thanks for helping out.
I do get red dots yeah but they don't turn green :/
Things you could try is
Download GPS Status & Toolbox : Launch GPS Status & Toolbox. You'll see a compass and some other stats. Hit the menu button for more options.
Make sure you have an active data connection and go to "Manage A-GPS State". Then, tap the "Download" button in the menu that pops up. When it's done, exit the app.
And another thing that made me come closer was changing the gps.conf but I dont remember what tool to use. You can do it manually though. (It's located in system/etc)

And if you need help rooting this baby, I can do it for you in 2 hours from now

All ok, except that phone hangs after the OK green circle on PC screen.
Non responding at all, all black.
But reset from 3.5mm jack and all ok again.
Will do another backup from factory setings, just in case...
what happens after installing CWM Recovery?
can work as normal with phone?
Thanks for 2h supporting

Well, something bad happened.
Afetr the backup opperation tha finished OK, it has a wrong behaviour with battery icon.
Sometimes show the pugged icon and others a ray inside.
When turn off, it finish ok and then vibrates, but a few seconds later the battery icon charging fills the scren (unplugged of course) and few seconds later disappears.
Not a big problem, but after it I tried a second backup after factory settings restore and this time when plug USB on phone while pressing "-" nothing happens. PC do nothing (not installing drivers as before) and flash_tool can't finish the last part of procedure.
I even used differnt cable but nothing. USB parameters are as suggested....
Please help!
Thanks

Fixed!!
Nothing worked to make it responding to USB...
Cables ok, config of USB ok too....
Decided opening phone and release power from battery cables.
I have never did it before but succeed on it
Now repeated opperation and made a successful backup in factory settings
Again I had to reset from 3.5mm jack
All ok, no problems (perhaps battery icon, but not sure)
Will continue rooting later

Updated Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 upgrade guide for HTC One m8 Windows (October 2016)

How to upgrade to Windows 10 on your HTC One M8 for Windows running Windows Phone 8.1
Prerequisites:
a. A Microsoft account. You NEED one to do this. Preferably sync it with your phone BEFORE you do all this, it will make your life so much easier. Even if you are paranoid about Microsoft getting all your data, you STILL need an account to complete the steps here.
b. Several pieces of software. Please use the versions specified in this walkthrough. Other versions have not worked well. You can download them all in a RAR file from: https://mega.nz/#!2JNBTCiZ!tBFDPMFzUu3g7EqulH9BSlFFebv4IcZiPrRSvS_fx88
c. Patience. If you mess up a step, all the way up through the Windows 10 install, you can flash back to stock WP8.1! You can probably even downgrade afterwards.
d. A MicroSD card is required. I didn’t have one installed on the phone before I started, but it’s 100% necessary (I’ll detail why as we proceed).
e. A willingness to completely wipe your phone. This ought to go without saying, but I’ve had people ask me “oh you mean I have to delete EVERYTHING?” Yes. Your phone will be reset to factory at least once in this process.
Credits:
Thanks to Bladeni, on whose instructions this is based. And all the folks at XDA Developers and Betanews, Disqus and a few other places I’m probably forgetting. The guys who wrote WindowsPhoneCustomPFD and CustomWPSystem. And the whole community!
Walkthrough:
1. Backup all your data. Preferably to the cloud. But if you are a privacy nut, put it all on your computer. Or the SD card. Somewhere other than main phone RAM which is going to be completely wiped.
2. Charge your phone to 50%. I know other walkthroughs say 40, and the tools say 25, but the reality is that we don’t know how fast your battery will drain once the phone is in bootloader mode.
3. If for some reason you have Windows Insider or Preview for Developers installed, uninstall them now!
4. Install the Windows Device Recovery Tool on your PC and run it.
5. You may also at this point want to install HTC Sync Manager, just to get the HTC drivers.
6. Restart in bootloader. This is a point of some contention, but basically hold down the power button until the phone tells you to swipe to restart. As soon as the screen goes black, hold down both volume buttons. You should get this screen (those are barcodes under the black swatches):
a. If the phone shuts all the way down, just hit the power button for a long press, then immediately hit the volume buttons. It takes a couple tries if you’ve never done it.
7. Plug the cable into the phone and the computer. Wait for Windows to recognize the device. Check Device manager to make sure it shows up as HTC Phone and not an unknown device.
a. If it shows up as an unknown device, try installing HTC Sync Manager (see list at end).
b. If it STILL shows up as unknown, install HTC Drivers Standalone (see list).
c. If that doesn’t work, as a last resort, right click the unknown device, update driver, and browse to where you unzipped the Fujitsu driver.
8. Once the device is recognized, you may need to hit “My device was not detected” in the Recovery Tool.
a. If you do, browse to “Other OEM’s” and then to “HTC”.
9. Now hit next, don’t give a reason (“Continue without submission”), and wait. After a few minutes, your phone will be back to Windows 8.1 factory image.
10. You need to set up WP8.1 – sign in with your account. If it starts to restore your stuff, let it do so – you have to wait until the queue is clear before you can proceed, so take this time to install the other software you need:
11. Install the WP8.0 SDK Tools Lite Setup. It may give errors about setting up links. Ignore them.
12. Install the WP8.1 SDK Tools Lite Setup. It may give errors also but usually won’t.
13. Once the phone is stable, go to Storage Sense and make sure that apps are set to install TO THE PHONE. This is super important!
14. If for some reason you still have Windows Insider or Preview for Developers installed (you shouldn’t, after step 2), uninstall them now! I’ve seen this happen with Preview for Developers.
15. Under the Windows Phone SDK 8.1 on your PC (NOT THE 8.0!) run “Windows Phone Developer Registration”.
a. Unlock the phone, it HAS to be on the start screen for this to work.
b. Log in with your Windows account (same as on the phone! Very important!) and hit “register”. You can tell it worked because when you run it again, it will say “unregister” (don’t unregister, but you can check!)
16. Under the Windows Phone SDK 8.1 on your PC, run “App Deployment” and select the CustomWPSystem_0500.xap file you previously downloaded. Deploy it.
17. Now open up your phone in explorer, and go to the downloads folder. Drag the CustomPFD_0003.xap into this folder. DO NOT DEPLOY THIS XAP.
18. If you want HTC Sense TV, download it from the store now, since after this step it will be impossible to install.
You are now ready to start modding the phone. Nothing you’ve done until this point has been destructive or done anything other than a reset. Now is the point where you probably void your warranty. You’ve been warned! We are about to hack a Microsoft app to make it into a registry editor.
19. THIS IS CRITICAL. Navigate to storage sense and set apps to install to the SD card. If you don’t do this, NOTHING ELSE WILL WORK FROM HERE ON OUT.
20. This website has a helpful set of screenshots for the next section: http://windowsphonecustompfd.blogspot.com/2015/01/you-need-two-filesfirst-custompfd0003.html?m=1
21. Download the “Preview for Developers” app from the store. Wait for it to finish installing.
22. Run the CustomWPSystem app on your phone.
23. Tap the red button labeled “SD Card Permissions”, then tap SD Card, then hit the check mark. The button should turn green.
24. Make sure “Preview for Developers” is selected (it is the default).
25. Now select the CustomPFD_0003.xap file using the select button.
26. Hit “apply XAP”. IF THE APP CRASHES AT THIS POINT, you have done something wrong. Most likely you didn’t set apps to download to the phone and SD card at the right places. The CustomWPSystem app MUST be installed on the phone and the Preview for Developers app MUST be installed to the SD card. You MUST be logged in with the correct Windows account. Go back and check everything again. If you have to, drop back to the system restore again using the Recovery Tool.
27. Go to the apps pane, and you should see that Preview for Developers now has a weird green icon with a key on it instead of the purple icon it came with. If it doesn’t, see step 25.
OK, for real. Now you’re going to void the warranty, since you’re about to edit the registry. Basically we are about to trick the phone into thinking that it’s a Nokia Lumia 735, which is a phone with roughly similar specs to this one, at least as far as the Windows 10 update process is concerned.
28. Run the Preview for Developers. This is now a modifier registry editor. You’ll see “cannot write here”. That’s normal. Navigate to:
a. HKLM (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)
b. SYSTEM
c. Platform
d. DeviceTargetingInfo
29. Now you’ll see you can write. So let’s find the keys we need. There are three. In each case, pick the key, then you’ll do this:
a. Hit the plus at the bottom.
b. Put the name of the key in the top field.
c. Pick “String” instead of “Key”.
d. Put the required data in the bottom field.
e. Hit “write”.
30. If your screen doesn’t move the keyboard out of the way, just hit back (ONLY ONCE) to get the other fields to show.
31. The three keys, with their data, are as follows. Remember they should all be set to type “string”:
a. PhoneManufacturer (yes, caps are important and leave off the quotes) is currently “HTC”, change it to “NOKIA”.
b. PhoneManufacturerModelName is currenly “HTC6995LVW”, change it to “RM-1089_1087”.
c. PhoneModelName is currenly “HTC6995LVW”, change it to “Lumia 735”.
32. Double check them by clicking back into them one at a time. Make sure the data is correct.
33. Download the “Windows Insider App” from the app store, and run it.
34. Register, and click “get insider builds”. When presented with a choice, choose the top selection. This is called the “Fast Ring”. It gets you the latest preview build, which is needed for bug fixes for the HTC One M8. Prior builds – stable and prod – don’t have the keyboard or SIM card working properly.
35. Reboot.
36. After reboot, check for updates the normal way. You should see an update starting. This is Windows 10. Let it install. THIS TAKES A LONG TIME.
37. Once you’ve rebooted into Windows 10, there will be a lot of other updates. Be patient and eventually it will be time to proceed.
38. Go to your app pane – notice that the Insider app as well as the Preview app are all the way at the top under “recently added”. The Preview app has no text, just an icon. This is normal.
39. Run the Preview app, and reverse the steps above to restore the original values (HTC, HTC6995LVW, HTC6995LVW) to the keys in steps 29-31.
a. If your Preview app is missing, you can try the Interop tools (included here) but they crash on a lot of builds for a lot of people when you try to go into the “Platform” subkey of the registry.
b. To install Interop tools, just load the file onto your phone and go run it from file explorer.
c. To run Interop tools (it isn’t an app, it’s a control panel applet!), go to settings->extras->interop tools.
40. Run the Insider app again, and this time put it onto release ring (the bottom option). This is optional – you can choose to continue to get all the latest options, but the latest ones tend to be buggier. I will update these instructions when the release build is good enough for the HTC One m8 to use in step 34. But for now, you may want to do this step.

Yes I did flash to OEM. I have opened a case with Microsoft as well to see why it says I have to many unlocks when my Dev account shows no unlocks.
That's interesting. Maybe they wised up to this method? I'll try an play around with it again this upcoming weekend. As a quick check, can you try using the 8.0 version of the app loader?
I appreciate that. I also submitted a support ticket with Microsoft and they refused to help, instead directing me to the forums, which advised me to ... submit a support ticket. I reset my phone to OEM and same error message. But I have confidence you'll be able to outsmart them. Thanks.

I also tried 8.0 application deployer. No luck. Same error message. Not sure this is related, but I have a developer account and my phone, even when registered as unlocked using SDK tool, will not appear in the Dev Center's Dashboard as an unlocked device. And when I try to open Preview for Developers on my phone, I log in with the same username and password as my developer account but it won't recognize that and sends me to a page to buy a developer account.

Uh-oh. It sounds like they have killed the "one phone for non-developers" workaround that they had previously put in place. I don't have a test phone - the one I upgraded has become my daily driver - but I'll see what I can figure out.
I did I! I made it through. Microsoft fixed my developer account and I went all the way through. Do I need to relock the phone or no? Also should I uninstall the XAP 003 app or the reg editor?

Microsoft limitations of the app installation for free account dev
I used another free account and everything is perfect, but Windows Insider problem, I didn't find the building in there...
Success
Worked perfectly once Microsoft fixed app deployment problem. Appreciate all your hard work setting this up!
What build of Windows 10 should I have? I currently have 10586.107. Is there a way to get a more current build?

To update to a higher build

First off - thank you for these instructions, they are excellent!!! I BELIEVE I have followed everything to the 'T'...unfortunately, I am stuck at step "80", I install Windows Insider with no problem, then I open it, select "Get preview builds" (my only option) and get the message "Server Error - A connection error prevented us from downloading programs for you. Please check the date/time of your device and its network connection and try again.". I have tried:
Turning it off and back on.
'Soft' reset
Setting time manually
Setting to Pacific time zone (what it defaulted to when I started it up)
Uninstalling/reinstalling Windows Insider (with reboots in-between)
Checking all registry edits, re-doing them
Researching this error online has not yielded any solutions outside the ones I have already tried.
Can anyone help/suggest something please? Thanks!
I am having the same problem with windows insider, server error, thanks for any help
I resolved my issue - by leveraging another forum in addition to all the great information on this one, here's the link: http://forums.windowscentral.com/htc-one-m8-windows/426772-5.htm and below are the exact instructions. it's a little bit of a hassle to pull the cabs but IT WORKS. I started right from where I couldn't move forward (step 80), though I uninstalled Windows Insider and put the registry settings back to 'normal' until this was complete. Interestingly, after completing and REINSTALLING Windows Insider, same error BUT Windows Update from control panel seems to work. It has restarted/rebooted several times but is now on the most recent update (November 9th) that I know of. No glitches (YET) to report, except for battery life seems shorter. Hope this helps someone!
Excerpt (starts from step 2 because step 1 is the Windows device recovery tool resetting device to 8.1 - if you've followed these instructions up to this point you don't need to do that)
....
2. Go to this site: 14219-10586 htc w8 tmous (0P6B140) - Pastebin.com and grab all of the .cab file urls. These urls are from this thread: [W10M BUILDS] Update links collection (cab-f… | Windows 10 Development and Hacking)
3. This is the part that sucks... Paste each url into a browser to download the file (you should end up with 47 files) - on a side note, if anyone doesn't want to do this, I could paste a link to a zipped folder with all of the files
4. Place all the files into a folder named "cabs" in your C: drive (ex: C:\cabs)
5. Download and install the Windows Driver Kit from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=526733
6. Open command prompt (windows + R then "cmd") and enter this command (places you in the proper folder to execute the next command): cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Tools\bin\i386
7. While your phone is connected to the PC, run the command: iutool.exe -V -p "C:\cabs" - it will take a while to execute as it transfers, then installs all 47 files. I think it took about 75-90 minutes for me.
Once that finishes, you'll be on build 10586.11
Once you've completed those steps, you can follow the directions posted by benj1091 at the beginning of the thread to OP the registry (via Interop Tools) to match a Lumia 735. If you want, you can then (or before) install Windows Insider to select your insider ring.

Step 5 - Open the dialer on your phone and enter ##3424# Turn Diag ON
Step 6 - Connect your phone to the computer and select Charging only if prompted.
Step 7 - Open QPST Configuration wherever you installed it.
Step 8 - Click on "Add new port"

Step 18 - The PRL should be written to your phone now. You can verify it by going to settings > General > About Phone > Status
Once back on sprint prl, you should be able to UPDATE prl and get it to update to the one for your act/area!
Pleas feel free to post results or if you had to do something different!
This is also another option, but i haven't found a way to get it to locate a prl and write it.
maybe some oter people can figure out how to get this to work from the handset?
Ive tried running in production mode, in dev mode, made changes from user to debug and dev in the build.prop
but its still a blank screen when you try it.
using quick setting app you can search ( SPRO ) and click the 1st entry. This isn't for new users so stay outta this stuff lol!
the full entry is com.lge.lgdmsclient.ui.test.SPROmadmHiddenMenuForSprint
in a nutshell it would be exploiting a prl write test to get it to actually write a dif. prl
Verified that Cmda Workshop Trail will write the prl also, it wasn't mentioned in op due to it is NOT FREE, and will require a purchase after 30 days.
You sir are a boss
verizon users are stuck as usual

[Root] H901 - For Newbies!

None of the methods in this thread are my own work. I struggled with getting my phone rooted for a long time and spend 10s of hours on the process. I had never rooted before and was therefore unfamiliar with all the terms, unfamiliar with how to complete all the recommended checks to ensure one had the right model, etc. There were several helpful threads but most approach the subject with the assumption that one knows something about the process. In this post I lay out what worked for me in a step-by-step way and what you have to do to achieve my results.
#1 Ensure you have a H-901 motherboard and not the Korean F600 motherboard by checking the sticker, and checking “About Phone” -> “Hardware Info” -> “Model number” in settings. These must both be LG-H901…from what I can tell the community has only developed technique for the H-901 variant.
#2 Get a micro SD card and load it with Magisk https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445 , and if you have Marshmallow or Lollipop and want Nougat (much better experience IMHO), load the files in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-v10/development/h901-t-mobile-nougat-v30b-twrp-t3639203 And maybe this thread as well (read both and then decide): https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm.../h901-t-mobile-nougat-v30c-flashable-t3744648
#3 Ensure you have unlocked your bootloader. (apparently only for T-mobile LG v10s since other carriers lock the bootloader) The FWUL virtual machine root method will not work if you have not done so. This is an entire process in itself. The following 2 videos which show how to root android 6.0 or earlier (process will not work with Nougat, 7.0, since some fastboot commands are missing). https://youtu.be/OtXlokk6JkQ , https://youtu.be/PPLwFGxLQA4
Also, this thread may be helpful. https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...t-mobile-bootloader-factory-unlocked-t3236224 , download the nexus root toolkit here for easy ADB command entry http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/ —we will only use the “Advanced Utilities” -> ”Manual Input” -> ”Launch CMD Prompt”. When it prompts you to select a phone, select the first option and then for android version select Android *** Any. Don’t use any of the other commands because they are not configured for your device.
If you get a “waiting for device” error while attempting the fastboot oem unlock command in the above thread, see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/help/fastboot-waiting-device-t3489789 Great video which shows how to change drivers. You will need to do this, I found a number of drivers that were already on my PC from google and Samsung worked although I didn’t have the specific one mentioned in the above thread. Don’t be afraid to experiment… you can always try another driver. And don’t require it to be hardware compatible. Ignore the warning message: https://youtu.be/nQjg6ePnGAc
---------------------------------------------
NOW that you have your bootloader unlocked you can proceed to actually flash the TWRP image as per this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-v10/general/root-h901-nougat-t3773942
Notes before beginning:
-To enter download mode to begin: Plug a USB cable into your phone with your phone powered off, hold down on the Vol Up button and plug the USB cord into your computer. It should immediately boot into download mode. Exiting Download mode after flash: pull battery…no damage will be done.
-To enter recovery after flashing TWRP: power off the phone then hold both the down volume and power at the same time. When you see the black LG screen briefly release the power button and then press it again while not letting the volume down up. You will see a screen asking if you want to delete all user settings. Say YES (via the volume and power keys—no touch input). You will see a screen asking if you want to delete all user data. Say YES (the data is only deleted if TWRP loads successfully) You will briefly see the black LG bootup screen. TWRP or factory recovery will load. Or if you did not unlock your bootloader, it will say recovery is corrupted and cannot be trusted, and then boot normally without changing your settings or deleting files.
-Additional note: as of 7-23-18 some commands had changed:
From V20 forum, Brian (runningnak3d) has moved to gitlab.com. So instead of github.com, we have to use a new git repository that Brian created in gitlab.com.
cd
mv lglaf lglaf_BAK
git clone https://gitlab.com/runningnak3d/lglaf
cd lglaf
git pull
git checkout v10-miscwrte
There are additional comments in the thread. Some timeout errors may be solved by: 1 - Download the VirtualBox extension pack: https://download.virtualbox.org/vir..._VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.2.8.vbox-extpack
2 - Go to File / Preferences / Extensions / click the + and browse to where you downloaded it.
3 - Once installed, with the VM off, right click on the VM, and go to settings. Click on USB, and pick USB 3.0. If your machine doesn't have a USB 3 port, pick 2.0.
But frankly, simply up arrow after a timeout error to load the last command on the command line and hit enter again. Simply keep doing this until it works. You know it works because no dialog appears for several minutes before informing one of success.
**Upgrade to Nougat after Flashing TWRP and booting to Recovery steps: (I did a full wipe as suggested by this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/h918-recowvery-unlock-v20-root-shell-t3490594 before flashing the v30b upgrade then full Nougat zip, and then flashing Magisk. I flashed the 3 zips sequentially. I was afraid Nougat would not boot successfully because the zip files are less than 2 gb combined but success! You may want to also flash the 30c upgrade before flashing Magisk for a total of 4 zip flashes. I did not try this. However doing all this means no backups are done so if there is a problem you may have to flash a KDZ with the LG UP tool (don’t ask me how).
As a final note, I cannot answer specific questions about the various processes provided or errors you may encounter that I have not listed in this write up since I have not experienced them. A bit of research on your part may be required, but this post should provide you with a huge head start compared to where I started. Good luck!
Methods to get unlimited mobile hotspot, very useful if you're on the $50 MetroPCs (owned by T-mobile) unlimited plan. All you $70 T-mobile plan suckazzz! https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...ited-tetherting-hotspot-t3825144#post77249285
I would actually recommend using a USB tether client and forgoing root access if tethering is your only objective and you are trying to be efficient with your time. However, with root you can install all these cool apps!: https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/best-android-root-apps/
The following caught my eye:
-Rec: screen record
-liveboot: boot animation (does not work with Magisk)
-Servicely: checks to see which apps are using a lot of battery and lets you suppress them
-Adblock Plus
-Titanium backup: very powerful phone backup application & bloatware remover look into for quickly switching over to a different lg v10
-Greenify: put apps into hibernation
-System tuner: get lots of info about you phone but be careful making changes
-ES file explorer: dig into the android system
-Disk digger: recovers deleted files (photos only?)
