[Q] Please help me root my Rogers One X with 1.94 fw?! - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hey guys, I'm new here and im looking for help. YES, I have already tried a million different things, YES my SDK is properly installed, YES my bootloader is unlocked from HTC dev, and NO, no method for rooting my shiny new HTC One X has worked so far. Ive spent countless hours on this forum, and have done everything possible, but to no avail, so its time for me to turn to you guys and ask for help.
My HTC's firmware is 1.94 which seems to be very uncommon, as most people have the 1.80 or 2.20 version.
I am running stock Rogers firmware with Android 4.0.3.
I have come close, I have even successfully done the whole daemon DOS process, but it had many errors, and even though the result said that the phone was successfully rooted, it did not install SU. However THERE IS A BROWN BAR that appears on the upper left side of the screen during the HTC boot sequence, and it only appeared after the daemon process.
Please, if someone could lead me in the right direction, id be very grateful. What should I do?

You don't need any fancy root processes. If you want to stay stock but rooted. Install twrp. And flash a stock rooted Rom. Or flash the superuser zip in twrp.

Follow instructions on htcdev to unlock unlock bootloader.. download goo manager and install twrp. Flashed rooted Rom and profit.

problems perm rooting the one x

Hello,
I am having problems with perm rooting my new UK One X handset, I have managed to unlock the bootloader using Hasoons2000 all in one kit v1.0 however when I try and root the handset it keeps failing.
Basically if I press the perm root button, the phone goes into recover however it just says there and the command prompt shows that the phone is not connected so cant root.
I have even tried updating the clockwork recovery img however that is failing as well..
can am I doing wrong?
Many Thanks
Scott

[Q] Rooting questions

Long time Android user, but never delved into rooting. I have read many of the posts here and on other forums & websites trying to educate myself. Much of the info seems to contradict itself. I posted in the NOOB section but didn't get a response.
My Tmo One S is stock, however I just read (via Lifehacker) that if I root the phone, I can add 'Google Now'. I have a Nexus 7 and enjoy 'Google Now' but now want it on my phone. I would just dive into JB, but am concerned that some of the custom JB ROMs aren't completely stable and fully functional. Here are my questions:
- It is my understanding that I will have to unlock the bootloader to root. Is that correct or can I just root without messing with the bootloader? And if I do have to unlock the bootloader, is there any way to back up all of the apps, settings, etc. so I don't have to spend hours setting everything back up? Don't I have to be rooted already to use Titanium?
- I realize that I am being very cautious, but would I avoid trouble by simply going to a JB ROM vs. just installing 'Google Now'?
- If I just install "Google Now", do I need a recovery? I am presuming that a recovery takes me back to the original stock position.
- If I do elect to root, is hasoon2000's toolkit the way to go?
- What I am overlooking or not considering?
Thanks in advance.
Yes. You need to unlock the boot loader.. If you want to root the easy way, use all in one tool kit. However. It has been brought to my attention from non noobs that the all in one will deprive you of the knowledge you should have to get out of a sticky situation. I learned the hard way. Know your hboot version. Know if you are s3 or s4 setting up android SDK and learning how to use adb and fastboot is a must. As for google now. Try the viper Rom. It has been integrated pretty well in the lastest stock base. Ps. As a rule of thumb. Flash the boot.IMG form the Rom using fastboot. Hope this cleared up some stuff

Tmous user here
I tried to use the all in one root, but It didn't work on my device(it only unlocked the bootloader) so I had to root the regular way
I use the viper rom it runs smoothly and probabably the best rom for the one s
To answer your question, yes you will need a recovery. You will need a recovery to add anything on your phone.

Rooting Nexus S

This is my first time rooting a device and I have the GT I9020T model will this guide work ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545. It is a Mobilicity Nexus S and is running 4.1.2
It is outdated but it might work.
I suggest this instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984858
That method is more simple and it works 100%.
Hey I need some help I am using the Nexus S running 4.1.2 i passed the drivers and unlock test but have problems rooting, when i get to the part where it uses TWRP it doesnt work and gets stuck there.
maybe it's still downloading the recovery image file.
like this: http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/crespo/openrecovery-twrp-2.3.3.0-crespo.img
Sorry I dont understand my first time rooting or anything, how to I fix or complete the root?
Your device is unlocked and you have a custom recovery installed? If so, you're almost there. The only thing left to do is flash the superuser or superSU zip. Here is a slightly newer version of su

Rooting HTC One X ATT

Hello, I understand that there are topics about rooting process and I have went and done as asked in guides however I seem to have ran into a problem.
I have managed to successfully unlock my HTC one X as what is being stated by the bootloader. I however cannot get it rooted.
I have used the new one X root 2.20 version made by Max but at the point where it is in fastboot USB and is where you do the flash recovery openxxxxxxxxxxx version name, it just keeps saying failed. I've done it over 20 times if not 30, no success.
I then tried to redo the entire process, still no luck. Then I used the guide that says 2000 on top, it guides you step by step on how to get unlock code and register and unlock phone and at the last part when you are installing the root software, can't remember the name but everyone is using it to install custom roms, it just kept saying device not found. I have looked into device manager and I had the drivers already installed and working.
I have tried to simply go into recovery but after the green sync it showed the red triangle with exclamation mark and then just rebooted itself back to lock screen.
So my question is, what could be the problem and has anyone else encountered something like this and fixed it?
If there is a post that I wasnt able to find that explains this, please do guide me to it.
Thank you all for any help.

If your phone is properly seen (no errors) in Device Manager, but is offline or not present in adb/fastboot, try using another USB cable and/or port.

1. Make sure you have installed HTC Sync
2. Make sure HTC Sync is not running in the taskbar
If you're bootloader unlocked you don't need root, just flash a recovery from fastboot with a "fastboot flash recovery <insert TWRP recovery>
You can then flash root from recovery or flash one of the custom roms that already has root.
From memory that root method is only a temp root so you can bootloader unlock if you were on the 2.20 FW with 1.14hboot and were with AT&T since they couldn't BL unlock.
So they needed temp access to change their CID to SuperCID 1111111 so then they could unlock through htcdev.

Red triangle with exclamation mark is stock recovery. TWRP is a custom recovery not "root software". If it failed to install, then obviously you cannot boot into custom recovery (TWRP).
Agree with the responses above that this is probably a drivers issue (PC is not "seeing" the phone).

Can we get a version for the Moto G?
"Wow apparently this does allow sunshine to s-off and unlock some 4.4.4 Verizon devices, just not our test ones."
I tried weaksauce2 on my brand new Moto G that I bought 2 days ago from the Verizon store and it just failed with an error message saying that the program had unexpectedly stopped. Yes I read the directions saying that the program was for the HTC phones but I decided to try anyway just in case.
Jcase, will the 3.0 version of Sunshine support the Moto G with 4.4.4?
Will Sunshine support the HTC Desire 612?
Verizon has not pushed 5.0 out via OTA for the Moto G - yet - and I'll be continuing to refuse OTA updates until after Sunshine 3 comes out!

The issue was with the version of TWRP that I had installed. 2.8.0.1. Flashed. 0.3 and all is good. Flashify saved the day again.
ART or Dalvik?
Is there any specific reason for one vs the other in KK? With Lolipop it will be a moot point, yes?
Am I supposed to run sunshine before I do a nandroid backup or after?
2822
Do I have to install both of them for using banned funtions by Verizon? such as "add apn", etc.
Verizon 4.4.4 S-Off
Another confirmed S-Off on a Verizon One M8! Thank you so much guys!

Try the correct forum for your particular device (this forum is for the M8).
Hell yea! This worked for me! Thanks for the hard work!
I am now S-Off! Thanks guys!
One question. SuperSU wants to update the su binaries but every time I try it fails. Just wondering if anyone else if having this problem?
opps sorry for double post
Is there anything I can do with soff that I can't with root?
HTC Droid DNA rooted and S-off
About a month ago I got a "new" droid from Veri$on as a warranty replacement. My previous one had S-off and root. I had been putting off installing KitKat (didn't want to lose FoxFi). The replacement was KitKat 4.4.2. Sunshine, and Weaksauce didn't work. Neither did any combination of the other tools. I found that weaksauce had a version 2 this morning and tried again. Lo and behold, it worked! Guys, look in your mailbox, another $25 is coming your way. I don't remember the HBoot version before I S-offed, but after S-off it's showing 1.57 and the build version is 4.09.605.5 if that helps at all. This was a new (probably refurbed) never rooted or S-offed as far as I know. I would assume that during refurb they lay down an entirely new image using JTag to make it like new.
S-off 4.4.4 with weaksauce2 and sunshine after a few tries
I do not know if this will help or just another post but I was successful after about 5 tries (I'm stubborn).
I know the first few tries were with Sunshine (that I tried about 2 months ago) a couple of times then deleted and downloaded Sunshine again. Weaksauce2 was able to get me root but the binary wouldn't update (I know, known issue) but after several tried and even doing full powerdown and powerup I was able to get it to work and purchased right then and there and then got the s-off. I couldn't tell you what made it work but something allowed it to finally work and go through even with binaries not updating, but again it took about 5 or so tries.
Brand new m8 running 4.4.4.
Root and s-off with weaksauce 2 and sunshine.
Now shopping for the right rom's to start crack flashing.

Tell me if I'm viewing this correctly.....if I s-off now with 4.4.4, when lollipop is realeased and I take it, all I will have to do is flash the latest supersu via recovery and I gain root again?

Close. You'll have to flash a custom recovery first. If you were already assuming that, then yes. Just flash superuser again and you should be good to go.
I think I understand....I'm not very familiar with custom recovery (even after reading abunch). Once I flash like CWM will it always be there, even after taking an update? Thank u for all this by the way
