How to stop startup services? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need to stop some foolish background services like
4shared push services etc that starts itself on startup. Any reliable software that would do it for me?

how many accounts to do you have sync'd to the phone? gmail, facebook, sense (etc)
and do you have the networks and locations all checked, for navigation etc.
I Didnt have the VZW location checked just standalone and Google I took standalone off and checked VZW is that right or should I have all 3??

You can use whatever you want. I leave google location services enabled and then I enable standalone gps whenever I need it (ie. Navigation, maps, etc.)
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Ok so I can turn the vzw one off to?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
you can turn them all off, just back on if you need navigation.
Oooo ok thanks!

pretty sure that shouldnt be draining the battery like that. check the accounts that are set to sync on your phone (gmail, facebook) and see the interval that each is set to refresh.
It was set to 1hr I switched it to 4 maybe that should help

so all you have syncing is gmail and weather?
I had to turn everything off, message stopped.

GPS tracking

Hey I was reading earlier about the possibility of being tracked if you let someone use your phone since they can install a tracking app that could use your GPS without you knowing.so my question is, assuming that they already installed a spying app, could it use my GPS without having the GPS icon displayed in my notification bar?

Maybe I don't fully understand your needs but surely almost every phone on the planet has a built in answering system linked with their provider.

No. The operators provide only voice mail options.
A good auto answering software / appn, I doubt, is available.

He he.. I remember the advanced call manager app I used in Nokia phones. Awesome app,. But none is available for Android.

What could Google possibly be using so much data for?

A couple days ago I checked my data usage and Google services alone totaled to ~12gb for a 10 day span of time. I decided to try and wipe/reflash (I'm running black bean v6) but now it's been 14 hours since i reflashed and I'm already back up to 377mb. I keep my data off unless I'm using it and I have all my Google sync turned off. Any ideas?

Potentially google now? Other than that I am not sure why that would happen
Sent from my XT912 using Tapatalk 2
I don't use any Google+/now
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Do you sync photos? Perhaps instant upload or picasa albums?
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
I use Now and it doesn't use anything like that.
If I look at even one whole month of data usage history Google Services has only used about 5Mb - and that's cellular and wifi combined.
Do you stream media or anything ? It seems like some kind of a mistake or error to me, but maybe not.
I have Google using crazy amounts of data too. I think it has something do with Google Backup. You could try Backup off from Settings>Backup and Reset
I don't know if that solves the problem buts it's worth a shot I guess...

That's the weird thing I don't have any Google sync no photos nothing even my email is set to manual sync. I keep my data off the majority of the day. I don't use navigation services at all.

How can I figure out what it's sending?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
i always disabled google access collection of data
Wow, 12 Gbs for sinc only..?!
How many accounts do you have..?
Just one account. Background data is restricted, picasa is disabled, Google backup& sync is turned off

Lately XDA app redirects

For the past week or so when I open the app I get redirected to the google store. I have to close the store and reopen XDA app. Anyone else experienced this?
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Free mobile app
This has been happening to me as well.. only it will not only open the store but also my browser and then i have to hit the back button like 5 times to get back to where i can open xda again.. then half the time it does it again.
I decided that to get rid of the ads i would just get the premium versio . So what.. it was only a $1.50... come to find out the premium version is nothi g like the free version. I get some extra widgets to put on the home screen but i cant even change the notification sound..
I just wanted the free app without being redirected 5 different places due to ads.. ?
Thanks for your response, not a good thing but at least I'm not the only one. Maybe I'll go back to using the browser instead of the app. It just happened again, first it open my browser then went to play store. Closed play store and opened app, then it worked.

I too have noticed this happening over just the past few days.
It is super annoying but it's nice to know I'm not the only one having the problems.

Yeah, this not only happens with the xda app but with a lot of websites too. It's getting very old.

I have also been having this issue. Does anyone know whether this is intentional behavior or perhaps some setting I unwittingly made?

It's nothing you've done. I'm uninstalling this app and leaving negative feedback. It used to be a good app, and I've used it for a few years now, but I'm done with the redirections.
Sent from my SM-N910V using XDA Free mobile app
Good idea, uninstalling it also.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using XDA Free mobile app
Uninstalled the app, now using chrome browser I still get redirected, be.
