[Q] Kernels & Team Venom ViperXL 2.4.1 Question - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Ok People,
I have the HTC One X AT&T I have installed Team Venom ViperXL 2.4.1 Sense 4.1.
My question is this,
Which Kernel should i use for better performance?, Better Battery?
I once tried installing a different kernel and OC'ed once i did that i got stuck in a boot loop.
Also i am not familiar with Under Voltage,
Can Someone who has the HTC One X AT&T and Venom ViperXL 2.4.1 Rom installed with different Kernel tell me what kind of setting you are using. OC? UC? and OV? or UV? that are stable and giving you good performance and battery
let me know
Thanks

I use elemental underclocked to 1.35

what about under voltage and over voltage?
and you running under-clocked at 1.35 does that mess with performance at all? and how the battery life?

Elementalx overclocked to 2.0 and undervolted 800-1300 I get great speed and great battery on viperxl

Thx 954wrecker :good:

It comes down to trial and error since each phone reacts different to certain settings. I tried different speeds and I honestly can't tell the difference between 1.3 and 2.0 on battery or on speed.

Ok i am having a problem here.
i downloaded and installed Elementalx kernel
Now stuck at Viper Boot Screen since 20 minutes
what do i do now?
I do have the stock kernel downloaded also i can go back to stock, but why Elementalx will not boot?

Not sure but both viper and elementalx have forums with questions and answers for issues like this. I never had problems so I don't remember the answers sorry.

how about Beast kernel, any good?

Try it, many people prefer it. Maybe you have issues based on the newer 2.2 firmware and hboot 1.14?

Elemental will work fine with viper 2.4.1 (but not Viper 3 jelly bean)
Did you try again? Maybe the installer didn't complete properly the first time.
Do you have hboot 1.14? It will try to install on hboot 1.14 and may take a long time. For some people it won't install on 1.14 and you have to fastboot flash.
But if you can install stock kernel from recovery, you can install elementalx from recovery.

Will you be making a compatible kernel for Viper XL 3.0 JB ? Been using your kernel on previous versions of Viper with good results. Thanks flar2

no i dont have any custom kernel..
I am experiencing this also with no beastmode.
It is however fairly rare, maybe once every few days (that I notice).
I was just going to wait it out until the next release to see if it resolved the issue.
Same here. My reboots happen a few times a day. I rooted from 2.20.

I had bad reboots with viperxl latest and bundled kernel. Went to clean Rom and cleankernel and all is well now

[Q] Help. I'm using Viper Rom and it got slow as hell

I installed it yesterday and it was awesome the first hours....
Now it became really really slow... help?
You mean ViperXL, right? Search the ViperXL thread for "lagfix".
Also, try to have at least 1 GB (maybe 2?) free on the SD card, as having it too full reportedly also results in serious lag on ViperXL.

I thought fstrim got implemented in the latest versions of Viper's kernel?
That's why I can can't seem to stay on a sense rom other than rebelrom. They're too heavy and it seems like performance is cut in half after a couple days. Would LOVE to run sense as to me personally it is visually appealing... But aosp on my device is just soooooo fookin fast

I also had this issue until I ruu'd and updated to 3.17 if you intend to ruu and you are super Cid, keep in mind you would have to s-off first.

[Q] Which ideal kernel for Vipers 1.6.3 ?

Hi All,
I need your suggestion which best Kernel for ROM Vipers 1.6.3 except the default Kernel (Bricked)?
Currently I use the default kernel, but the wifi looks unstable (diconnected somestimes).
What I need are:
Stable and good performance kernel for daily purpose (no game used)
Better battery life
Previously I tried Sultan r17.5 but my HH has immediate reboot while got incoming call
HH: HTC Sensation XE
ROM: Vipers 1.6.3
HBOOT: 1.29.0000
Radio: 11.24A.3504.31_M
Locked Bootloader
S-OFF
You might want to change your setup. I've seen better performance compared to bricked with worthy battery trade-off.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but I was reading in the forums because I have 1.6.3 since their newer version, 3.0 or something doesn't have the camera, so it's a big turn off for me until that's fixed. But they said something about flashing another kernal over could brick the device for their ROM... or ruin it for that matter. I've been in bootloops and stuff before, so I'm curious... maybe that's just for their new version? I always stick with the default kernal because I'm still learning what half the stuff is. But if you can flash a kernal to 1.6.3 then I might give it a shot.

don't listen to that post
of course you can't flash a kernel from droid dna to sensation and surely you will damage the device
it was only a joke.nothing else
in vipers 3.0.1 you can only use pyramid ION kernel by sebastianFM
in vipers 1.6.3 you can use overclocked kernel 1.5.2 by sebastianfm or pyd-x kernel by axetilen or other kernels
edit:if you are S-ON use 4ext to flash kernel and before flashing enable smartflash
and a nandroid backup just in case before anything
Sultan Kernel

ahh okay, I see. Sorry I misread the original post, but thank you for the info.
Since I've flashed Vipers 1.6.3 the developers suggest me that use the Sultan Kernel... Daily the rom seems to be good, stable and smooth ..... except in wifi (sometimes) and with tethering/mobile hotspot (the phone or disconnect automatically the hotspot OR the phone reboots every 10-20 minutes)
With a reflash I gonna see if these problems get out!
Sultan Kernel RULES!!
u have the one which come with the rom u can find it in a folder in your sd called venom (after u flashed the rom of course)
or u can try Sultan kernel ... i am usingvit now it is pritty amazing

My phone is getting very buggy with Vipers 1.6.3 and I don't know why. I tried wiping caches but after 1 day it returns in a buggy state. Very slow to open apps and to switch from one to another. Maybe is a kernel problem? I'm using default (Bricked)

I have tried flash Sultan r17.5 but my phone got reboot while got incoming call.
Also tried to flash SebastianFM 1.5.2 but this kernel has no S2W
Try faux kernel. Its my favorite sense kernel.

I got reboots during phone call on sultan r17.5 (happens rarely but was unable to capture the last_kmsg) and on faux kernel (more frequent here)
I found sebs kernel is the most stablest of all but I'm a die hard fan of s2w (can't live without it)
And finally there is a kernel with sebs sources and s2w along with minimalistic changes.. It's the Grogg kernel 3.0
He recently opened a thread for it.. Do check it

I use faux and never had any problems. It's gives the best performance. Sultan kernel is good though it gives some glitches. Using faux 12u

I have noticed that with ViperS 1.6.3 you can get reboots on incoming calls when you use "auto brightness" or the "AOSP lock screen".
So try disabling them, wipe cache/dalkiv and see if the problem goes away (it did in my case).

[Q] Upgrading the radio on HTC One X

I have the HTC One X (At&t) and my phone has been rooted and unlocked. I'm running Viper XL 3.2.8 with the 3.17 radio, H-boot 1.14 and S-ON. I have heard about the Elemental X radio and also the 2.2 radio (via the Venom Hub on my phone). I'm not sure if they are the same or if they are different developers. I have heard from other forums that upgrading the radio will increase my signal strength and battery life. My question is, is this true and can anyone recommend any of these to me or if there are better ones? I will be updating my phone from S-ON to S-OFF soon.

You're confusing Kernel's and Radios. You're on the latest radio. There is no upgrade. I don't suggest flashing kernels if you don't know what they are and what they do.

Sorry for the bad question, I should have said that I want to upgrade to Elemental X and 2.2 radio, I know the Elemental X is a kernel and the radio is the frequency (signal) of the phone. So even though the Venom Hub has a 2.2 radio, it is not compatible with my phone? Is the Elemental X compatible with my phone, with the ViperXL 3.2.8?

You can flash any sense radio you like, worst case scenario, it won't work and you'll have to flash another radio. Kernels and radios are independent of eachother. Any Sense kernel will work with viperXL.
I don't recommend flashing anything through viperhub. It's dangerous since you don't have the file for yourself and cannot verify the MD5.

Thanks for the info, I was not planning on flashing through the viperhub, I have TWRP and will be flashing through it. Is there any kernels you would recommend that will improve performance and battery life. I saw the details on ElementalX and does that well but I would rather get recommendations if any.

I do not find much increase in performance or battery life simply from flashing a kernel, I usually flash kernels for the features.
