Slow Auto-Rotation? - Windows Phone 8x by HTC

Hi,
I am planning to buy an HTC 8x. I was playing it one on a store and pictures are really slow rotating on auto-rotate. Is there a way to speed up on any setting? IPhone is much faster.
Thanks

No, ........
BTW for me it's enough speed (0,5 s for picture rotation). It could be, that too much (fast resumeable) applications are "open" and too much RAM is blocked...........
If this is a nogo for you, think about: why you want a smartphone.......and much more important, what apps you must have.
The hardware from 8X in combination with WP8 is fast enough and in special benchmark (no time to search now, which one) 8X is a little bit better than IPhone5.

As annoying as it sometimes is, I think it's a "feature" of WP7/8 - it's there on all phones I've used. I think it's to avoid accidentally triggering the rotation. Still, not my favorite thing ever.

A question regarding g1 software or hardware?

I am putting this in writing because it makes me wonder. G1 is a great phone , but we all notice that when scrolling through the menu where the applications are,and/or when in the browser , the scrolling is kind of lagged. Or let's say maps or anything else. Its moving kind of laggy. I give the iphone just as an example. One should admit thay the iphone is moving sleek as butter...now my queation is this : is this software differences and the mac is sleeker or? I would love if the g1 moves as sleek as the iphone...or even better. Is this fixable? Is anybody thinking about that or it is just me?
It is noticeable and there has been talk of it on code.google. A lot of the Android dev's either point to memory bottle necks or blame HTC all together.

i think it has to do with the number of apps on the phone and the apps running in the background, i just u[graded to JF's 1.41 and did a wipe and my phone's running like a champ even the battery is noticeable longer. had it on all day and its over 40% charged now im on the border to download any apps

Great
Nice post dude.thx
Thanx man .. nice one
I have been waiting for that video ..
Cheers!
Nice vid.
Phone seems quite responsive for normal use tasks. I don't give a whit about benchmark #'s, just usability, and in that vid it seems as good as I'd hoped. Time and user reports will tell if it's up to par all around, and where the inevitable weaknesses are.
Thanks.
about the back cover
is there 2 versions one with black back cover and one with tri-colored back???
Another video but shorter.

There is only one back cover.
it goes rubbery-plastic (feel very premium) then aluminium, then rubbery-plastic. it just depends on the light you look at it. It can look, monotone, 2-tone or tri-colour.

I notice that they say the rendering when viewing an inernet page isn't as good as the iphone and is still a bit choppy. I hated this on my HD2, on the iphone, it's like the whole page is there, and you are just moving the viewing area, on all HTCs I've seen it's like the phone only renders the bit you're looking at and each time you move it has to rebuild the page...it was very annoying and I hope it's improved a lot!!
Things I noticed in the unboxing.
1. The screen seems to be very reflective and watery. They say it's "toughened" glass but dunno if that means thick glass. Even when the guy's hands are dim the phone itself is still reflecting a lot of light and glare.
2. Speed does look fast, but HTC screwed it up with those low frame animations. It's all about perception, so a super-slow but fully animated smooth transition will feel faster than a choppy but quick one.

Agreed, on another unboxing, I believe it said that the S-LCD had a fair bit of glare.
Although one said viewing angels are good (i think slash gear) but another said it's really bad. Quite odd really.

I have thought the colours looked washed out also, from every video since launch, but looking at the users photos in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088170
everything looks great.
Was I the only one who noticed that it only had 558 MB RAM in total? That's even less than on the Desire HD. Did I misinterpret something or did HTC really screw up?

It has 768mb. But 210mb ram is used in sense/gpu/Android/etc. Only 558mb is usable by apps/the user. How much usable has the HD got??
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I think that some is reserved for the OS (its the same with the samsung galaxy s2 where ~800mb are shown instead of 1024mb)

Every time I hear this I laugh. iPhones don't do flash. Its always going to be faster/easier to render a page without that and almost every website has some flash content on it nowdays.
On the Desire HD (according to a post on SlashGear, NOT personal experience) there is 633 MB of RAM available to the user.
Also note that without much running on the device in that video the memory usage was as high as 400 MB.
Should I feel worried? Well, probably not since Android has an excellent garbage collection management, and it knows to purge redundant open apps when additional memory is required.
The only thing that troubles me is that since the system takes a larger portion of the RAM without compensating by increasing it, that on a longer term, and with additional apps installed, it might start lagging.

I will most likely ditch most the HTC eye candy in the first five minutes and keep just the lock screen etc if I get this phone. Sure its pretty but not practical.

From what I've seen and heard the rendering on an internet page is actually very, very good. Due to the high resolution you can view pages and read text without having to zoom in, etc.

Thanks !!! Thought about it- Studied the specs and I am keeping it.
keeping my skyrocket.
just didnt feel the LG nitro was worth paying the extra $35. The HD screen is nice but wasn't blown away; the superamoled Plus display and UI on skyrocket is good enough for me. The skyrocket felt better in my hands as well. Smaller internal storage and battery concerns about the LG nitro didn't help either.
for another comparison, check out mobiletechreview.
i was in an at&t store today, and played with both phones. the nitro's screen is really stunning. i do prefer it over the skyrocket's. i also love the textured back, and general build quality of the phone.
however, the nitro was noticeably laggy. simple things like opening menus, or the app drawer caused significant hesitation. i also ran my standard web browser test where i open a heavyweight desktop-version website (http://surf-forecast.com). the skyrocket opened it fast, and scrolling was butter smooth even while the page was still loading. can't say the same for the nitro. even after the page fully loaded, scrolling and zooming was not butter smooth at all.
you can't judge a phone by one web page, but the difference was so large that i didn't bother trying any others. maybe the demo phone they had there was messed up somehow, or maybe future rom updates will smooth things out, but it looks to me like that HD screen on the nitro is taxing the hardware too much.
this quote from diane hackborn's recent post seems to add credence to this theory:
As device screen resolution goes up, achieving a 60fps UI is closely related to GPU speed and especially the GPU’s memory bus bandwidth. In fact, if you want to get an idea of the performance of a piece of hardware, always pay close attention to the memory bus bandwidth. There are plenty of times where the CPU (especially with those wonderful NEON instructions) can go a lot faster than the memory bus.

GPS of LG Nitro
Hi guys,
For people who have the LG Nitro, could you comment on the GPS sensitivity:
- How long does it take "GPS Test" app to lock?
- Accuracy as reported by GPS Test or Google map
- Does GPS maintain lock with Google Navigation?
Thank you.

This was my experience, too. I wanted to like this phone. The textured back is nice, the resolution is amazing, the screen quality is really good (except blacks, at the highest brightness, are meh next to Skyrocket), and I liked little things, like the tall widescreen (less width on the phone, easier in the hand) and the three buttons (I feel better for ICS), but the lag! Oh, how the lag killed this thing.
I'm not sure if it's the high resolution or LG's Touchwiz Lite, which I hear is poorly coded, but stuttering and jittering was the rule when scrolling. On a brand new unused store unit, it was bad enough to be frustrating in a 15 minute demo. If this gets an AOSP or CM ROM, it may turn out to be better than the Skyrocket, but until then, stay away. This phone is unusable without some good devs, sad to say.
I really wanted to buy it. Why can't AT&T have one phone with no compromises?

I cannot believe that people actually think the display on the Nitro is better. With both phones side by side full brightness the super amoled plus blows that IPS out of the water. Rich Eye Popping Colors and Dark Blacks Compared to the Mediocre Bland Display on Nitro. I know comparing 720 to 800x480 is crazy and the pixels are sharper on Nitro but as far as displaying two 1080p videos the Skyrocket still Looks a lot better in my opinion. Real world test with the phone a foot away you cannot tell that our Amoled Plus is not same resolution as the Nitro. I hate when someone boast about the resolution and you have to zoom in 150% just to see the difference or put the phone 2" in front of you. Whatever the case My White Galaxy Skyrocket is On Top at this Moment. Bring on ICS and Butterfinger to that Nexus.(Was so excited for the Nexus but with the messed up launch and bad news after bad news I could not make myself get it now Screw you Google)
my take on the Nitro vs Skyrocket
Phone looks and feels amazing.
I liked the screen, but clarity was nowhere near what it is on the Skyrocket. Sad too because color felt dead on (not over saturated, more real life on the Nitro) But it was "fuzzy" and did not show as much detail
Performance..dead on exactly the same on Antutu EXCEPT for RAM, the Nitro scored MUCH higher.
Linpack scores were high 80's-low 90's compared to the Skyrockets mid 70's low 80's
the deal killer....the rear speaker
At full volume we could barely hear multiple youtube videos that played loud and clear on the display Skyrocket and our Inspire
I did this test display vs display in store. We spent an hour in there.
I did notice the wierdness mentioned about the browser buttons on the bottom but it was not that big of a deal to me.
Oh, and I know I would break that usb port cover lol
and of course..the 4gb internal mem is a huge deal to me but I was willing to overlook it
in the end we ordered 2 white skyrockets from bestbuy for $139 each (frys electronics pricematch)
It really is a great phone, but not in the key areas I WANT it to be

I have the phone, and the GPS is the best I have ever used. I locked 12 Sats in 3-4 secs on an overcast day. It also locked while I was sitting like 5 feet from the window on the first floor of a 2 story house. Like it literally doesn't get off more than 3-4 meters of accuracy. On Google navigation it's a clean arrow all the way, no enlarging blue circles .
Again my contract was up, so I was deciding between Nitro and SR. I went with the Nitro for the screen initially but everything just works perfect on it except the battery life. It's not good at all, and I can't even force it to do 3G only to save battery.
SR is a pretty sweet phone too. Tough decision for me. Also the Nitro was $150 not $250 like most reports. If it were $250, I would went with the SR no doubt.

[Q] Nexus 5 vs. LG G3 // Which should I buy?

So hey people, let me start off by saying how much I loved my N5, that is, until some poor crackhead took it from me this morning, but anyway, I mean I LOVED IT: The new camera picture modes (Fisheye, 360º, etc), Lollipop coming to it much sooner than any other phones, which also made it even more butter smooth and quicker when oppening apps (sorry, I just cannot deal with lag and fps stuttering, I just can't), the time I saved just by making voice notifications, how sleek the design was... For me that phone was the state of the art android phone. Only bad thing about it was overheating a bit too much when dealing with heavy load (Games, screen on maximum brightness, camera recording). Sometimes I'd be scared it would just shut down from the heat lol, but I could cope with that though. Oh and also the mic was absolute horsecr*p when recording from the camera. Yep. Horse. Cr*p.
Long story short, I need a new android phone and I'd totally be buying the N5 again, if I just hadn't laid eyes on the G3. MAN, what a phone, it's even faster than the N5 (In processing terms at least, because in geekbench and similar tests the N5 won most of the times), the camera being so much better, that visual, THAT GODDMAN VISUAL, IT LOOKS SO NICE. But then again, I'd be sacrificing two of the biggest reasons I got an N5 in the first place: Updates before any other phones (android 6 just 'round the corner yo...) and the pure android experience. Not just that, the google cards when swiping right from the home screen were very useful to keep track of news, game scores, etc. I've been doing some research this afternoon on both phones and I did find some good prices for both. Now what I can't decide is which one to get, because I love the gorgeous look of the G3 and those boss specs, but I also want to keep getting updates first and taking them 360º shots (kind of got addicted to it teehee).
So, can you guys list what do you think of both? Thanks in advance people!

How about a G2? Shouldn't cost any different than a Nexus 5, has the same internals but a much bigger battery and a far better camera. Software isn't stock Android, but you can always flash a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod or Paranoid Android. Custom ROMs are typically very "stock" in appearance and function, but with some added features that you can choose to use or ignore as you wish. Speed of custom ROMs are often better than stock Android because they'll use newer kernel sources.
I don't think I'd be considering getting a phone from 2 generations ago (except for the N5 because of the updates) so I'd go with the G3 instead because it's newer and faster than the G2, and will probably handle the next updates better than it.

Oneplus 6 for $400 8gb ram good buy?

I know all u phones are coming out but i have a few question.
Are the speaker that bad even with the new updates.
Second is the lag/stutter
I know this phone is the fastest and snappier. But i hate scrolling stutter and lag in the ui apps. For example. Twiter app on my gs8 was a lag fest while on my ex pixel 2 xl was buttery smooth. Same for facebook. Does stutter lag occurs?

speaker...is still average ....but other than that.... oneplus 6 is a complete beast go for it.... and $400 is gr8 deal !!
For me the speaker is a hardware issue so no update can impact it.
Having said that I have no issues with the speaker.. Could be of course better (but that is true for many other phones as well) but it's completely usable for me
And I experience no stutter in any app - the phone is very smooth and super fast for me...
The price you got is a very good price go for it!
Hells yeah
buy it!
Hard to say no to that price...
Do it. Lol
e buy it
Impression with my new OP 6 is that I don't see any issue that they said on review apply to me at all
speaker: it's not good, but not bad, and occasionally listen to music while in the bath with the phone in the cup still sounds good enough for me (I'm not audiophile but I do pay attention to sounds if it's not suit my taste) also V4A seems to help it
lag/stutter: yes, it does have that, but it's rare, like, really rare. I think I just experienced it twice since I got the phone, and it's just a quick one, maybe mere second, not a big deal.
I want to point out that some said battery is not good (and it does look like that on spec compared to other phones) but I totally have no issue and I'm a medium user, never need to desparately looking for a place to charge. And once you use Dash charge, I think you will be amaze, I don't know how I will live without it anymore, I will get Dash instead of wireless any day at least for a few years.
speaker quality isn't great, but it's audible. stereo mod and v4a makes it a bit better.
if speaker is a concern because you want to be gaming it might be terrible since it's really easy to cover up the bottom facing speaker.. but it's hard to beat the phone at retail price, personally wound't hesitate at $400

This phone never lags.
$400 is a GREAT prince
The speaker.... its pretty bland when holding it in the air. BUT it's actually made to sound great on a flat surface. It uses the phone, flat surface, and speaker to produce a good sound. I actually love it like that.
I don't know why people are complaining about the OP6 speaker. It sounds a hellova lot better than my older phones. My older phone's speakers were like listening to an AM radio station. At least the OP6 has some bass to it and sounds more like an FM radio station. It's not on par with the LG G7's speaker with it's resonance chamber, I had on it works. But that is just about the only thing the G7 had going for it, crappy screen with terrible light bleed, the cameras were sub par, the pictures taken looked good as long as you didn't zoom in on them because then you would see just how low detail photo's it takes. More MegaPixals doesn't necessarily translate to a better picture. It's the sensor's pixal size and the aperture size that counts. My only complaint with the OP6 is the focal distance of the camera's, the crop is way too close and the fisheye effect of objects with vertical lines.

You can get this by using a custom ROM like liquid remix its buttery smooth and has pie
$400 seems like a good price, but what are you getting and what's in the package? Is it a brand new phone? Is it the 64GB/6GB RAM version or are the specs higher than that? Will you be fully covered by warranty? OP has some specials where you could get a couple of extras with the phone for free, at least in the US. It's great to get a discount, of course, but it's not worth that much if you're not fully covered in case something goes wrong during the warranty period.
