Anyone got 7.8 on Omnia W?
I am also awaiting this update as well. Very anxious.
There's no update for omnia w!

It's in the news ..
There's this: "Samsung set to rollout WP7.8 update to its existing Windows Phone 7.5 devices" http://tech2.in.com/news/smartphone...-its-existing-windows-phone-75-devices/660802
And then there's this: "Samsung Omnia W will not get Windows Phone 7.8 (!)" http://www.esphoneblog.com/2012/09/12/samsung-omnia-w-will-not-get-windows-phone-7-8/
Not sure which one to go with. There's a 3-month gap between the two, though...
From that same site, there is a link saying it will get the update.
http://www.esphoneblog.com/2012/12/...mnia-m-will-get-updated-to-windows-phone-7-8/
Only makes sense all wp7 phones get the update, it's not like it is wp8 or anything, so I don't see why they all wouldn't get the update unless I'm missing something about it.
Does that mean the LG Optimus 7/Quantum will get updates too?
Nope.LG has said it will not make 7.8 for existing LG WPs
Samsung Omnia W got 2nd WP7.8 update "officially" today. Latest version is 7.10.8862.144.

Hi dear,
I'm planning to get Omnia 7 or Focus(I just sold my Omnia 7 few weeks ago poor..)
but I also want to get Mango Device with Front Facing Camera.(I assume FFC will be available on Mango WP)
Should I wait for it or just get 1st gen WP7 device?
Mango Beta looks so delicious so I can't make a decision.
Please give me some ideas guys!
if i were you i`d wait for the 2nd gen WP7 devices. i already have an htc trophy and so far im loving it, but i`ll be getting probably either a nokia or htc wp7 with ffc so i could skype video call. no offense to samsung and lg users but i find their hardware to be fairly similar and quite poor (experienced on android devices), especially the fact that omnia 7 had delays on getting the nodo update due to hardware/firmware stuff.
I got NODO on my Omnia 7 quite early.
I like the Super Amoled Screen actually
Maybe I better wait for Samsung or Nokia WP! Thank you anyway
I'd wait for the next generation of devices. But I have the Omnia 7 and I LOVE it. And once you go AMOLED, you can't go back to LCD...
That's right
LCD display wp7 device is not my option.
I only look for Samsung Focus and Omnia 7.
I'd used Omnia 7 for 3 months and I quite liked it but there were too many missing features so I sold it... I regret my decision now t.t
If you can wait... just wait for Mango and the 2gen devices, that will come with the update.
Aside from that, for me buying an WP device again is just an option, when it features an AMOLED screen. Metro looks an awful lot better on these screens.
All depends on what comes in the 2nd gen devices. If they come out with the same specs and no front camera (or no major features), I'll stick with my Trophy a little longer.
currently on nodo 7392, never get the update notification.
on the microsoft "where's my update" page for international devices, tmobile(deutsche telekom, right?) update schedule is marked as "Except Samsung Omnia 7 models".
however, other carriers(at&t), are marked as "testing for some models, planning for other models" instead of "except some model".
so i am wondering if there will be any mango update for us unlucky tmobile omnia 7 users. all i get from tmobile custom service is "i dont know".
btw, my phone bootloader version is that notorious 4.10.1.9 so i can't flash 3rd party rom into it. even if i can, it requires several times of rolling back and update, and it will be pain
hey man, i am in the same position, omnia 7, t-mobile germany, unlocked using a three sim.
on 7.0.9392.0 bootloader 5.2.1.4
i bought this phone for mango(and spotify)...and this is f*****g KILLING ME not getting it
if anybody can step by step how to get it, computer knowledge is good so dont worry about getting technical.
You can use a USB / Resistor jig to force 4.10.1.9 into download mode.
(I had that bootloader and managed to do so) There are instructions on how to do so in the Omnia 7 section of the forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092824&highlight=usb+jig
As for the update itself, I had no problems updating from 7390 (4.10.1.9) via the official 7392 update.
I'm waiting on the official notfication before upgrading to Mango.
thanks for that.
I got an htc chacha as my backup today and i'll try that on my omnia

all right, microsoft finally shed some light on this. the update schedule page has been updated and it says omnia 7 models are under testing now.
just saw a new version of the win phone os on the app WPbench...the os version is 7.10.8745 on an htc 7 pro...added 3 days 22 hours back...any idea on this update??????
http://www.computemark.com/wpb/index.php?
spotted the os build 8.0.8000..running on a Nokia device named XXX...saw one sporting the 8745 first......so could this be an an early build of Apollo????
Sounds interesting...
hopefully my carrier will be rolling out updates a little quicker, this one sounds juicy though
TANGO early build maybe?
Hopefully one day I will get it! I am still stuck with my DVP on 7720 with no updates in sight. I think one day when MS releases say 8.X.X I would get updated to atleast 7740!
Same here..stuck on 7720. Samsung focus SIM unlocked

I unlocked my phone and debranded it. Was sick of waiting on att. I would guess an early build of tang

There have been many of these internal builds spotted, 8745 may just be another interim build never to be released to the public.

If you got 8745 update - can you share the change log with us?
Does anyone have any information on when WP7.8 will be available or if there is any source online to get our hands on it, so that porting may begin?
Here is an excellent article about the features one can expect in 7.8
Here's an Update wherein it is stated that RTM (Release to Manufacturing) is September while GA (General Availability) is November. ;-)
It will be released with the first WP8 devices.
They did mention that there will be a program that allows you access to the updates early. I'm not sure if Windows Phone 7.8 is included in that, or if its just Windows Phone 8 and higher.
Nokia lumia 900 gets WP7.8 for a couple of weeks, this is officialy confirmed by Nokia ana Microsoft .

During the Summit I have understood that this feature is only for WP8-updates and not for WP7.8 because this update is released by the carriers.... So, we will have to wait .... :-/
I understood that the new update route is one of those few new things that come with 7.8
WP 7.8 is for the 1st & 2nd gen of WP devices that could not upgrade to WP8, sort of consolation
Once Nokia releases the update for Windows Phone 7.8 for the Nokia Lumia 900 can we expect a port soon to other devices like the HD7 ? or do we have to wait till HTC or Tmobile officially announces it ? (which I do not wish for)

This is the Windows Phone 8 forum, not 7 :silly:
wp7.8 will be sent directly, not via providers. That means everybody should get this & get this the same date.
No, WP8 will receive subsequent updates 'over the air' but you have to have it to get that as I understand it!
AFAIK Nokia plans to release the Tango update (7.5) in the upcoming weeks, not the 7.8 update. We'll probably have to wait more especially given that MS is not very confident with the 7.8 performance as of now.
Our best bet is to wait for the Windows Phone 8 SDK coming late this summer. Chances are it will include a usable WP 7.8 build.
I don't understand why people are talking about "porting" 7.8 to older phones. Every phone that runs Mango will get the 7.8 update, regardless of age or carrier. They've said they're pushing this update out without carrier intervention.
Also, Nokia did say that the 7.8 update would be release "in the coming weeks." That could mean withing the next few weeks, or by the time Windows Phone 8 comes out. Those are both technically "in the coming weeks."

hey, according to multiple tech sites, the Windows Phone 7.8 will be released right after the WP8 has been outed in the market.

Well, I for one have an old HD2 which of course is excluded of the luxury of official updates. Also I thought it'd be more fitting to put in here than in wp7 forum because of similarity.. sorry if I was wrong there. Happy with the outcome so far. I wanted to make a platform for discussion regarding 7.8 release and that we got; )

No, this has been clearly said by Microsoft and followed up with big people who work with and are at Microsoft, you will ONLY get the new tile layout on the main page (to have the 3 size tiles) and nothing else.
Only other changes you could possably get will be in a App format(downloadable via the marketplace). Not a update. If you want more of the new stuff, you will have to BUY a WP8 device when it's released.
This has been said from Microsoft a few times now...

There was a update to that, they took it back.

That statement that you would get 7.8 on Nokia devices in a few weeks is INCORRECT, here is WPcentral's take on it...
http://www.wpcentral.com/windows-phone-78-update-available-weeks
It's TBA... So no one knows at this point...
Trust me, I wish it was true because if Nokia got it, we'd all get it, as I am sure someone will rip it to work on any device...
I have a Samsung focus v1.3 running a custom ROM. Will I be able to update to 7.8 when it comes out?

apollo is wp8, none of the current wp7 devices will be able to run apollo.
but ALL(!) will receive the wp7.8 update, which brings some lite-wp8-feeling.

oookaay,
many thanks for the info,
I quess that but I needed confirmation
I think WP8 UI screen will be great an enough for me until I upgrade to a high end HTC WP8 devise
According to what I have been reading, 7.8 seems to be just a UI change so far (more details may come up later). Paul Thurott site says that it is an OTA update that will by bypassing the carriers. This too me indicates that it will go to all post-mango phones.

Nokia said something about their users getting it in a few weeks but, it was pulled back and though it was going to be Tango. No one is sure on that.
I bet we get it from here (XDA) before we get the offical one. I want it on my custom rom
Yes all existing windows phone device will get windows phone 7.8 according to microsoft.
