I love this phone, but I am not that crazy about the icons on TouchWiz. Is there anyway to change icons without being on a ROM that has the theme chooser?

you cuold always try apex launcher or another launcher also!
APK Edit will allow you to change the icon and/or application name for any program... very easy to use.
see this:

OK, a lot easier way to do this is to download "Apex Launcher" or "Nova Launcher" from the play store. They both support icon packs. There are many free ones out on the play store (stock jellybean, motorola icons, lg icons, google icons, touchwiz icons...etc)
Launcher:

Icons (a bunch):

Sweet, thanks for the response guys that helps a lot.

Icon changer works for me:good:
I've been using Apex launcher for a while now an I really like it. The best feature is letting me change the home page grid size. I really prefer to have 5 x 4 instead of the default 4x4.
I find GO Launcher EX to be an excellent launcher as it has some many plugins available so you can customize every aspect of the O/S to make it look exactly like you want. It also has a complete widget series for further customization. I like the custom calendar, weather, and notifications it provides. Also there is a really cool SMS text message app that add many custom icons to your text messages.

I have been looking for a standalone app that looks functions like the stock app drawer, but with customizable icons+shortcuts that I can link to from the homescreen; this would be similar to App Organizer or Folder Launcher, which you can do the same thing with, but then apps are displayed in list view. I would just like a snapping "icon view" vertical app drawer.
The goal is to be able to use a quick, lightweight launcher such as Zeam, and be able to change the icons and link to this app instead of the stock one. I feel this would be a solution for many others who don't need or want a full featured homescreen and just want to be able to get a custom look.
This would also save an enormous ammount of time for those (like me) who have attempted to Meta/Ninja-morph or resign market apps and spent a rediculous ammount of time trying to change that one giant orange square icon that throws off the otherwise clean custom look of your drawer.
I love ADW Ex, but it can get really bogged down with multiple widgets. LauncherPro can hide apps from the drawer and have homescreen shortcuts, but that is a pain as well. Other possible featurs could be horizontal/vertical/4d/etc. and custom arrangement, keeping in mind that the main goal is to keep it from eating up resources. Anybody?
(maybe this thread should be moved, thnx)

Doesn't allow custom icons
Hello,
I rooted my nexus s and was wondering how do I change the Icons on them? Do I have to download a ROM for a custom theme? Also I downloaded a icon package which I really like, was wondering if its possible to use them?
adw ex launcher lets you change your icons
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1389071
Use a launcher that allows you to change the icons. If you're on ICS, use Nova Launcher. If not, ADW, Launcher Pro and GO Launcher all let you customize icons.
Keep in mind though, that for apps the icons are only changed in the homescreen, but not in the drawer.
That is true for all except GO!Launcher. It changes app icons in App Drawer. Otherwise you're right those are all great options. You can however change the icon in a system folder somehow... I've seen a tutorial on the forums somewhere, but it takes work.
Nexus S - CyberGR Hybrid ICS (5), Matrix Kernel (15)
So I have go launcher ex running on AOKP Milestone 6. Everytime I change the theme using theme chooser it never changes the dock, dock icons, or indictor. If I go into preference and then visual it don't give me the option to choose the theme. Its not seeing the theme chooser theme. Is this a go launcher default action? When I used nova launcher it does it for me no problem. With go launcher I can only change the dock icons manual. Even if i click on a icon to change the icon it only finds the themes installed from go launcher.
Is there a way to fix this? I like the way nova does it but I use the Facebook unread notifications that go launcher has. Nova don't have this.
u can't choose aokp theme in go launcher setting u can't use anything other than theme Chooser to change aokp themes ........I run apex launcher along with aokp rom inorder to change the icons of dock bar I just restart my launcher after applying aokp theme ........
I do get what u say but All I want to do is pick a theme in theme chooser that comes with AOKP rom and it change all the icons and apply the whole theme. With go launcher ex it don't do that. All it does it apply the main icons and change the system icons and UI. But it don't change the dock bar, dock icons, app menu icon, or indictor. I either have to purchase the go launcher matching theme for this to work or deal with it on the default system theme that go launcher ex provides. I don't like how go launcher does this. It nova launcher had Facebook unread count i would switch over to that in a heart beat.
just trying to see if theres a work around for it without buying the matching go launcher theme.
What if we use Nova Launcher but set a theme from the new TouchWiz themes... will it theme the phone dialer and other apps, or no?
I would say so. All other themes you you can get for Samsung phones through modding, romming, Wanam Xposed all work if you use Nova.
Touchwiz is only the launcher after all. The UI is spidered into lots of other stuff, so it should work.
i'm currently using nova launcher prime and yes it will change your dialer and the notification expand with all the quick settings, etc. its pretty cool using the purple theme, but i would wait until more neutural colored touchwiz themes are out, there's not many to choose from right now.
i want to add that nova launcher and the S6 is the best combination and i like how the S-Health walking widget can still be used. I remember on the S5 you couldn't use health widgets from samsung if you used a 3rd party launcher.

Only took the time to do this since you've given so much to the communty. i chose a very obvious custom theme to help everyone see what is affected after applying Nova Launcher.
Album
Notice the TouchWiz theme affects dialer, notifications/quick settings, settings menu, however it does NOT affect app drawer.
Icons, and font, also do not get affected as they are controlled by the 3rd party launcher (Nova).
I immediately reverted back to default TouchWiz theme after this..... LOL. Will be installing my favorite kovdev icon packs (https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=kovdev&hl=en)
kovdev icons+nova launcher+S6 hardware = dream experience for me personally. will most likely only look into twrp recovery and xposed and nothing more for this S6.

Woah that is so sweeet!!!! Not the actual theme, that is ugly as sin.... But once Samsung releases the themeing tool, I know people will make some [email protected]$$ themes!! I can't wait... thanks for the screenies brotha.
I really like the Date and weather widget that comes stock in the Google Launcher on the phone. However, I've switched to using Nova Launcher because I like a couple of its features better. Is there any way I can get that widget on my homescreen?
Thanks!

Yes, it is built into the Nova settings. No need to download additional widgets. Just look for the Google search bar options and select the pixel style and enable weather display.
i would love to find the built in digital clock/date widget, i cannot find it in nova launcher, could you tell me how? i don't need the weather as a widget, just the time
