Hello,
I rooted my nexus s and was wondering how do I change the Icons on them? Do I have to download a ROM for a custom theme? Also I downloaded a icon package which I really like, was wondering if its possible to use them?
adw ex launcher lets you change your icons

Use a launcher that allows you to change the icons. If you're on ICS, use Nova Launcher. If not, ADW, Launcher Pro and GO Launcher all let you customize icons.
Keep in mind though, that for apps the icons are only changed in the homescreen, but not in the drawer.
That is true for all except GO!Launcher. It changes app icons in App Drawer. Otherwise you're right those are all great options. You can however change the icon in a system folder somehow... I've seen a tutorial on the forums somewhere, but it takes work.

I recently downloaded ADW launcher using the flux theme. Not bad but I'm thinking of going back to stock launcher but would like to keep the fluxed icons. Is this possible?

i am not sure if it is possible with the regular ADW but i know in ADW EX that you if you go into the theme setting of ADW that you can set the theme to stock, and then you can just change the icons. If you need me to screen shot what i am talking about i can do that for you.
I think the OP wants the icon pack separate from ADW so they can use them in the stock launcher. In that case, I'm not aware of the icon pack's location. I've often wondered this myself. There are apps that will change any icon for any app on screen. Just need access to the icons.

Oh haha. I am sure that he could use an icon pack from the android section and use desktop visualizer to apply the icons. But that does take A LOT of time to do. But if you do use the icon packs from the android section, there are a lot of options too. Like a lot of options.
i think you can try to do it,maybe it sucess
I have adw ex but prefer go launcher. Can have certain themes with different icons, if that is what you are after.
How do you change all your app icons when you download a icon pack?
Or do you have to manually use desktop visuallizer for every
-cm9-
If the launcher supports it, you just select the icon theme. ADW EX, for example, will accept most packs. As will Launcher Pro. Not sure about the ICS-based launchers though.
It works with apex, long press an icon and then edit, and press on the icon to change it

The same with Nova launcher.
Beamed from my Senny..
What if the launcher does not support it, such as Zeam launcher? Is there a app for it?

Some ROM's support changing icons via theme e.g. Rosie themes for sense based ROM's or themes for CM9. These icons are gets applied system wide irrespective of launcher you are using. You can even create one suiting to your needs.
So I have go launcher ex running on AOKP Milestone 6. Everytime I change the theme using theme chooser it never changes the dock, dock icons, or indictor. If I go into preference and then visual it don't give me the option to choose the theme. Its not seeing the theme chooser theme. Is this a go launcher default action? When I used nova launcher it does it for me no problem. With go launcher I can only change the dock icons manual. Even if i click on a icon to change the icon it only finds the themes installed from go launcher.
Is there a way to fix this? I like the way nova does it but I use the Facebook unread notifications that go launcher has. Nova don't have this.
u can't choose aokp theme in go launcher setting u can't use anything other than theme Chooser to change aokp themes ........I run apex launcher along with aokp rom inorder to change the icons of dock bar I just restart my launcher after applying aokp theme ........
I do get what u say but All I want to do is pick a theme in theme chooser that comes with AOKP rom and it change all the icons and apply the whole theme. With go launcher ex it don't do that. All it does it apply the main icons and change the system icons and UI. But it don't change the dock bar, dock icons, app menu icon, or indictor. I either have to purchase the go launcher matching theme for this to work or deal with it on the default system theme that go launcher ex provides. I don't like how go launcher does this. It nova launcher had Facebook unread count i would switch over to that in a heart beat.
just trying to see if theres a work around for it without buying the matching go launcher theme.
I love this phone, but I am not that crazy about the icons on TouchWiz. Is there anyway to change icons without being on a ROM that has the theme chooser?

you cuold always try apex launcher or another launcher also!
APK Edit will allow you to change the icon and/or application name for any program... very easy to use.

OK, a lot easier way to do this is to download "Apex Launcher" or "Nova Launcher" from the play store. They both support icon packs. There are many free ones out on the play store (stock jellybean, motorola icons, lg icons, google icons, touchwiz icons...etc)
Launcher:

Sweet, thanks for the response guys that helps a lot.

Icon changer works for me:good:
I've been using Apex launcher for a while now an I really like it. The best feature is letting me change the home page grid size. I really prefer to have 5 x 4 instead of the default 4x4.
I find GO Launcher EX to be an excellent launcher as it has some many plugins available so you can customize every aspect of the O/S to make it look exactly like you want. It also has a complete widget series for further customization. I like the custom calendar, weather, and notifications it provides. Also there is a really cool SMS text message app that add many custom icons to your text messages.
Is there anyway to change the default icon shape systemwide? I know i can throught the stock launcher, but in the settings it stays rounded and i want them round squared. (IOS style)
You might not be able to change stock icons as the launcher doesnt have any customizations. You have to install a launcher for this.
You can install lawnchair launcher version 1.1.0.1410 (I recommend this version, older and newer version has bugs)
Lawnchair can customize your icons the way you like, and the launcher itself is EXACTLY like pixel launcher.
Bump!
How can I change adaptive icon shape in whole system? Launchers like pixel launcher, or lawnchair even installed as system apps, still changes shape only inside of them, but on recent apps icons are still in the system shape.
