You need to upgrade to stock JB before to get the JB bootloader. And when installing a custom ROM you cannot retain root - either the ROM is pre-rooted, or you have to install a root app via recovery.

No custom rom will upgrade your device to JB, you need to flash Asus stock JB first, or just flash JB boot loader to bring you from ICS to JB. I recommend to flash full Asus JB stock, then after that you can flash custom rom.

Thanks for the replies.
The problem I am having is when I flash the full Asus JB stock, I lose root. How do I upgrade to JB and keep root?

is it rooted android can update official ics??
If you are on a custom ROM, no. If it is only stock ROM with root, maybe. Typically, you need a stock recovery to accept OTA updates. If you used the HTCdev unlock method, you might still have stock recovery. If you used Revolutionary, most likely you have a custom recovery.
There's no way to recieve the update via ota while rooted unless your stock rooted but I'm pretty sure a dev will make a custom rom thats fully stock with the lates ICS build for the Sensation
if you are using stock rom

Im using rooted stock rom.....and i receive automatic update yesterday for ics... After updating the root was not remove but the boot loader is now s on.....
you should flash stock RUU first to get everything completely stock, especially the recovery.
no need to s-on. s-off is fine. and do not flash any custom recovery this time!
leave it stock and unrooted.
then you can apply ICS OTA after applying first OTA until ICS OTA.
after that you can flash custom recovery and root your device.

Haha yes, i have faith in the devs from our forum. OTA updates will come attached with sense and other bloatware, not exactly something I want to deal with.
if i flash back to stock rom can get the official update??
still on old custom rom not the ICS version

With the highest possibility - Yes!
So i think i have the same question.
I have my official stock rom rooted on my htc sensation, no custom rom installed.
But when i try to update to ICS (i get the option to update over the air) it gives me the "error" screen showing an android man, besides a warning mark.
So is this superuser blocking the update or something else?
And how can i update to ICS.
(i don't care if i lose my root, the phone can be rooted after the update)..

Just restore stock recovery and intact stock Rom file (not delete any apps in original stock rom) and you can update via OTA. But the bootloader could be lock again.

If you're rooted it is NOT advised to apply the OTA as it's more than likely going to screw your phone up. You're better off just going to a custom ROM instead
I am running an old version of black bean with ICS bootloaders and the new roms needs JB bootloaders. What is the easiest way to get that for a noob?
Can I just restore my stock ICS from CWM and uppgrade if it finds a update and then flash a new rom threw CMW?
Thanks!

Restoring your stock ICS will still leave you with CWM recovery. Stock recovery needs to be in place for an update. Probably the easiest is flash stock rom with cwm. Do updates you wish then reflash custom recovery. (CWM or Twrp) Twrp is my choice on this tab.
Note:
Once on JB you can't go back to ICS unless you install nvflash while on ICS.

If you want to update to JB and not look back consider flashing a stock JB rom. All of the stock updates will also flash stock recovery.
Asus - http://www.asus.com/Tablet/Transformer_Pad/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/#download
these you need to unzip once then flash the remaining zip.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697227
This link provides stock downloads and much more. Skim the op and you can find downloads or links to most things you might need, both now and in the future.
Once you unlocked you could no longer take OTAs.
So I just flash this with CWM and I am done? "ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T Firmware: V10.4.2.18 Only for WW SKU (Android 4.1) - 2012.12.06 update" I live in Sweden, is WW the right version?

Yup, just flash that and youre on jb and latest firmware and on stock recovery, if u want custom recovery you need to use the adb thing.
I have rooted my TF700, but have not unlocked the bootloader yet. I had to downgrade from JB to ICS so i am on the .30 firmware. Should I manually update the firmware to a JB firmware even though I am running ICS? Is there an adavatage, or will the firmware actually install JB back on? Also, when I load a custom ROM, should I also load an updated firmware?

What do you mean.
What would you like to do? Get back on JB (rooted, and locked bootloader) or do you want to flash custom roms, which require an unlocked bootloader?
I guess what I'm asking is, when I run a custom ROM, should I flash an updated firmware?

That depends. I am not that familiar with downgrading, so if you could turn off your tablet.
Then press the power button while holding the volume down button.
Then you should see 'bootloader version' somewhere on the left top corner.
If you could note that down and let me know, that'd help a lot.
It could be possible that your bootloader is still the one from before downgrading. If it is, you can start flashing roms as soon as you have unlocked your bootloader.
If it has downgraded too, you have to
1) Install Voodoo ota rootkeeper & make it protect your root
2) Flash the official latest firmware version
3) open voodoo ota rootkeeper and restore your root.
I think there's a walkthrough for your case somewhere in the general thread. Look for 'walkthrough' there, you should be able to find it.

Depend on the rom build. If the rom build on JB, then yes, you need to flash JB bootloader if you're on ICS. Custom rom only contained rom and kernel.(sometime without the kernel so you need to read the instruction). So if you're on ICS you need to flash JB bootloader (either just flash the bootloader alone or flash the entire firmware which included the boot loader). Then you can flash JB custom rom. If you're talking about the new CleanRom, it's on JB (so you need JB bootloader) and has option to flash stock JB kernel or custom kernel. For me, I always flash the full Asus stock firmware first to make sure I have everything then I flash custom rom. Of course, you could just flash the stand alone JB bootloader then flash Cleanrom.
My TF300Tis running Hydro for ics on firmware 9.4.4.30. My question is can i flash a JB Rom ? I'm hoping to flash the rom then the boootloader for jellybean then recovery and root. Is this the case or am i missing something.
Cheers
you must flash Stock JB 1st. This will flash the JB bootloader, too. But after that there is no way back to ICS.
Then you can flash a Custom Recovery back and then as usual the JB Rom you like

I was just wondering, is the only way to be able to receive updates from Samsung is to be on the stock rom, I currently own a rooted Asus tablet with a stock rom But I can no longer receive Updates through Asus because of unlocked bootloader . So all in all I guess I'm asking how do the updates work on this phone with, root, unlocked boot loader, stock/custom roms. Thanks.

It's all the same for all devices, unlocked bootloader you don't get OTA. If you're using custom/stock rom with unlocked bootloader, you just have to wait for a repack stock rom or update custom rom. If you have rooted pure stock rom you should able to receive OTA and use OTA root keeper to preserve root. If you modify your build.props or removed system apps, the update will failed. Hope that answer your quesiton.

So from what I understand as long as Im on the stock rom even if its rooted I can receive updates and I need to use ota root keeper to continue to be rooted after an OTA update, correct?

I should probably add, if I had just rooted and got twrp and made a backup of the stock rom, then flashed a custom rom and if I wanted to update could I just reflash the backup of the stock in twrp to be able to update, this would be for if they Didn't have a custom rom out for the latest update. As of right now I have a tablet on ics but I cannot update to jb because I don't have the jb boot loader or whatever, but say I was to flash a stock Asus rom on ics And use OTA rootkeeper Would I then be able to flash jb custom roms? I assume the OTA update from ics To jb installs the correct boot loader instead of having to do it manually from a cimputer, big thanks for any help.
