Has anyone experienced the stuck data issue on this phone where when you are using the net, all of the sudden one of the 4g arrows get stuck and you can't access anything on the net? I had to go in the settings and turn off data as well as the radio and then turn it back on to bring the data back. I just got this phone today from walmart. Should this phone be exchanged? Thx
Update : was browsing xda and all of a sudden data went completely away, meaning the 4g icon. It came back in like 5 seconds. I don't know what's going on. Reminds me of my hd2 on ppp android, you know the familiar data drops we all experienced on ppp. Any one having the same issue?

This is really strange, I mean this is a brand new phone fully optimized for android, not a hd2 that never had the most optimized drivers needed for android.

Does yours just drop and come back by itself or have you had to also turn the radio and/or data off? I've had both.

Mine is doing the same thing but its nothing new as my mt4g does the same thing. Dissapointed .... I thought the mt4g did it because it had a diff Rom.

I think I know it since I know Android. Had it even worse on my Flyer yesterday - no net via 3G or Wifi though it showed signal. On my Sensation less than on Flyer and former Desire. Is it Android related?
I have had all kinds of data problems. I have been at home with it all weekend, I just assumed it was from the low signal strength in my house. I have been using wifi around the house just fine on it. My Sammy Vibrant did not have data problems at home.
Is rather have no signal than own a Samsung android phone. Lol.

I have had this problem for the past year (seriously) and I have yet to find a solution. The issue has spanned 3 different phones (Nexus One, MT4G, Sensation) and 2 different SIM cards. It was so bad last June I basically had no data whatsoever for 2 weeks. Even my girlfriend has had the issue across her MT3G Slide and my Nexus One when I moved onto the MT4G so I know it isnt a weird bug with my account. She is on a completely different account.
I live in the Phoenix metro area, and at that time they were installing HSPA+ so I attributed the problems to that. I called T-Mobile several times complaining and they transferred me to a special dept and had the towers near me investigated and they never found anything. Since I lived in the DC metro area before moving here a year ago, they thought that may be the problem and reset a bunch of stuff for my phone # and SIM card but that didnt do anything either. After about 2 months of dealing with T-Mobile, the problem improved a lot and was just an annoyance instead of a deal breaker as it previously was.
Ever since then, the problem still occurs, albeit less often, but still enough to annoy me.
Unfortunately I think this is either an android bug, HTC bug, or a T-Mobile problem.
I'm also having the same problem. Data on my hd2 was a lot more reliable. I even went to exchange for another sensation. Same problem occur.

I was experiencing this same issue, and I believe I have it fixed (at least in my case). First thing I did, was a full factory reset. Having been on WinMo 5-6.5, then transitioning to Android a year ago, the one thing that remained a constant after flashing new ROMs, was to do a factory reset. I've also read posts that indicate it is a good idea, as soon as you get a new phone, to open the box, insert the battery, then do a full factory reset.
I am not sure why this helps, but since doing that, I have only experienced this issue once. It also took care of a few other issues I was having (random FC's in the music app for example).
Another thing I did, that I think had the biggest effect, was to install JuiceDefender. When you boil it down, JuiceDefender essentially toggles your data connection On and Off many times throughout the day (it allows you to set up a whole host of triggers and controls, but I won't go into that) It is my belief that cycling the data connection on and off resets that connection, leading to a 'fresh start' if you will. After installing JuiceDefender, I have saved a ton of battery usage (my phone will last a day and half now, with pretty heavy usage), AND more importantly, I have not experienced the issue of my data randomly dropping.
I know there aren't any definitive answers in my post, but I hope this helps. YMMV obviously.
My Sensation and G2x both do this. My old G2 did this. I think it's just problems with "4G"

I'm still a noob at this so I've got one question. Is a full factory reset where you go to settings->privacy->factory data reset? (I've got an Optimus M, so the menus may be different.) I just want to make sure because I plan to do a reset, install Juice Defender, and put in an 8GB class 6 card before I start doing anything. Anything else I should do at the start?

I believe this achieve the same result, but to be sure, the way I did it on this device was to power the phone down completely, hold the Volume Down button, then press the power button... this will present you with a menu on a White screen. Select Factory Reset, then press the power button. This will begin the factory reset process.

Yes to all of these.
T-Mobile is having some measure of growing pains with their 4G service and has not acknowledged it completely. A few of us have discovered that switching handset make and models does not help, as it is a service issue. From this thread:

Hi, it's been a while since I posted in XDA but this issue has been a regular one with my T-mobile service, across multiple devices. I have searched far and wide for anyone else seeing this exact problem, and finally here you are. I hope this helps other users:
1) Purchased the original myTouch 3G; approx 1 year with zero connectivity issues. Loved it, exceptional for its time.
2) Purchased (upgrade) myTouch 3G Slide at launch. Following 3-5 months saw This issue with outgoing data, but no incoming response. 60/40 the internet would respond or not in any application (web, streaming, podcasts), it was a real crapshoot. Assumed the problem was isolated and performed a few master resets. Zero apps installed and continued to see the same issue. Decided it was either software or radio related and called T-mo for advice. They suggested a replacement unit after standard troubleshooting (re-seat SIM, master reset, check that you have substantial signal).
3) New MT3G Slide, same outcome. Called back. Finally received a reasonable suggestion: get a new (free) SIM from T-mo as the one I currently had was slightly older. Was sure this was the issue as the rep sounded very confident when I explained the situation. Received new SIM!
4) No change, issue persisted. Following day called T-mo and had a 'ticket' escalated to engineering dept. Was assured I would receive a call from eng. dept, but no such luck. Bothered by this whole mess and lacking in answers from T-mo, I sold the Slide and upgraded to the G2X.
5) The issue once again reared its head! If the stars were aligned and I did get In/Out data, it was 11KB/s (90kbps) tops. Ex: 5MB podcast would take 0.5-1.5 min (30-90 sec) to download prior to issue, now 10-15 min. This was with no apps installed, 4 bars of signal, 4G status icon, across multiple geographical locations, and fingers on both hands crossed. It was about this time I suspected that somehow T-mo's network was throttling my account. But, I had never used more than 1GB in a month, and they assured me I was not being throttled. A serious WTF was had
6) Realizing there were bigger problems in the world and finally at wit's end, I returned the G2X and am waiting patiently for my contract to expire in July, while using an old Nokia candybar in the meantime for calls and text only.
7) July: move to new carrier or stay with T-mo (if we can figure out what this issue is). 8 year customer, need internet on a smartphone though.

There are a few other posts/threads describing the same behaviour. You may see data going 'out', but no data 'in' (response) from the network, despite having full signal and '4G' status icon. Ideally there should be one T-mobile general thread for this, if it doesn't already exist.
Unfortunately it seems that every tmobile phone has this very annoying problem. The data is fast, just not that reliable. Must be a GSM thing because it doesnt happen on sprint and verizon phones i use. And its not a "4g" issue because all of the phones are on the same wcdma bands as thr "3g" ones, they simply have modems with increased throughput. I have had this problem since the G1

Yes, if you are already seeing the issue, it will likely persist across all phones for you. Exchanging/returning your handset will probably not mitigate it.
T-mobile reps are going to need a few descriptive keywords if you plan on calling in the problem. 'Slow internet', 'slow connection', 'slow phone' will not generate any flags in their system due to the sheer number of not so savvy callers reporting the same thing under non-ideal conditions (bad reception/area, out of service area, etc). Suggest something like 'non-responsive network', 'stuck data', or 'no incoming data' that will allow them to differentiate user error from network problem. Test it in different locations (with 3-4 bars of signal and '4G' icon in status bar) and use the Speedtest app to give them concrete numbers. 5-15 KB/s for example is a clear indication that something is amiss, as even 3G is much faster.
Edit: There are a few threads on T-mo's site describing the same thing.
Turning off the backup my settings under privacy seems to help (still an issue but better) on the store demo I have been playing with.
I notice the issue where websites will not even start to load and apps time out when connecting. The request appears to be sent from the phone but not getting a reply from the network.
My G2 does not have a problem in the same location.
I've had this phone since release and have loved it. I have only one issue with it. I'll be trying to use my internet on the phone and it will show the upload arrow but the download will never do anything. I have full signal so this is not the problem. This happends a lot and in the middle of browsing it will do it... It will load a page and I'll click a link and it wont load and then it will work again after awhile. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know a fix or the reason its doing this. Also I have full 4G coverage where I am.
It happens to me a lot too! Its very inconvenient and I know its not the area where I reside because I also have a g2 on my spare line and the g2s data works perfectly fine when the g2xs is stalling. :/

Did you get yours at release? If so it may just be the first batch or something...
Could be lots of things. Have you activated and are using the SIM that came with the phone. Supposedly the G2x uses a new SIM format.
What OS are you running? Are you on WiFi? 2G, 3G, 4G? Where does this occur?
I surf my with my phone a lot and I don't get that intermittent data problem you are describing. I am running the latest CM7 (#70) and in a 3G area with average signal quality.
I'm using the SIM that came with the phone and this is only on 4G I reverted back to stock ROM unrooted and still has the problem
I've never rooted my phone. I've actually swapped the sim twice already thinking it was the problem. Hard reset has been done. I've pretty much tried every trick in the book and the problem still persists. Its my 2nd replacement(1st one had the same issue)

P.s I got the first one at release then had it exchanged(buyers remorse period) for a new one towards the end of may so I doubt the 2nd one was from the first batch.

Like Player said, could be alot of things. For a sim, the G2x does not require a brand new sim, but it does require a newer sim. If your sim is older than 18 months, put in the one that came with the phone. Last years TMOBILE sim will work with the G2x.
Also, data plan. Didn't happen to me, but did happen to my son, the plan was not enabled for 4g Android. He got signal, rarely 4g...but did get 2g.3g. Walked back in the store..asked what was up...they checked...1 mouse click and finished. Funny thing was, he bought the phone from them, earlier in the day. You would have thought they would have covered that.

Your sons phone was showing 3g? Hmm... I thought on tmo 4g was a fast version of 3g and that the g2x only showed 2g or 4g. I am probably misunderstanding something.
So I went to T-Mobile just now and they gave me a new SIM and it fixed all the problems so if anyone else is having trouble try getting a new SIM first....its free

I went into the About section of the settings and then Network and watch it constantly switch from HSPA to UMTS and something else, but the TMO 4G icon remained at all times even though the signal strength indicator went from 1-4 bars.
Something is definitely messed up with this phone!
Yes many others including myself has the same issues. As suggested in other threads call up HTC to file a complaint so that they can escalate it to the tech department and push them to release an update for the radio. I even went on twitter to stick it to the man lol.

yes, Its a bug in the radio, not a fault with the handset.. I too have it as well as 100's more users.. There have recently been some OTA updates released with a new radio which fixes this issue... So hang tight it will get better

Some was saying that it didn't work for them and that the signal issue got worst after the OTA update. i'm really hoping that it's the radio. I went to the store to swap SIM to see if that would resolve it for me. so far.... still the same signal issue, unfortunately. I have two days left to return it and I'm really considering it, even if I have to eat the $50 fee..
Mine was doing that. But not no more. All I did was put it on WCDMA only haven't had that problem since

The above ^^ was suggested to me by HTC but didn't work.
I'm on my second One S with the same problem. HTC advised I exchange it. I did so and second one was the same. They then said they wanted the phone back in for investigation and repair. I'll now wait and see what they do with the phone, if anything. It's been sent back and the ball is in their court. I get really rubbish reception on the One S when there is a strong signal in my area. All that said the signal strength readout bounces about all over so something is amiss. I'll report back once I hear anything or I get the phone back.
I've not had the software update BTW.

I'm currently doing this and it seems to do a little better. I'm on my second handset and the issue is still there. TMobile employee with the One S are also having the same issue so. I'll wait to see if the software update fixes it. If not I will have to tell my phone insurance company to replace the one s with a comparable phone. Then I'll stick it to HTC lol. My last phone was a G2 and it was a solid phone that can still run with some of the big boys and reception was fantastic.

All,
I have had the One X for just over a week now. Three times, I have had to hard reset the phone because it stops receiving / making calls, and data stops.
I tried searching the forums but it seems like issues are all over the board and couldn't really find something that was exactly my issue. If there is one, I apologize for the duplicate post.
Regardless, when the phone is in this state, it appears like everything is working. It shows I have great signal, the little 4G icon is there, indicating that everything is working.
Anyone else have this problem or could I possibly just have a bad unit? AT&T already swapped out the SIM card thinking that might fix it, but no luck.

I think you should swap out the phone as bad before returning it if that's the only issue you're having. mine seems flawless in that regard. I haven't missed or dropped a single call.

I don't recall ever having that problem. Mine was pretty random too, in fact it got so bad yesterday that I missed several important calls.

However, AT&T's LTE phones are notorious for connection problems on non-LTE market. These LTE phones use a new APN called pta. I just had the same problem while traveling through PA yesterday. Lost data connections many times and had to reboot the phone at the end of the day to regain data connection of any kind.
So, it is AT&T's service and also the phone firmware that can't properly handle the fact that it can't receive any LTE signal in certain areas.

return it and get another phone, besides the One X, it's all hype anyway. The HTC vivid is a much more solid phone.
I had almost the same issue. My device was on wifi and would at random times just stop pulling data. Or at time just not make calls. I tried trouble shooting it but I was basically told since I didn't have it long I should get it replaced. I replaced it and the new device is perfect. I have not once had that issue again.

Who said I'm going to reture it. OneX, regardless all its problems is still way better than any alternatives AT&T have. There is no such thing as problem free Android phones. I've being many of them. They all have problems one way or another. Vivid with its ancient S3 CPU and SD screen just plain sucked. My SGS2 can kick its butt.
For me the form factor of One X, LTE speed, S4 processor and HD screen are the main things I pick One X over any other phones available on AT&T. These software bugs will be corrected overtime.
I just came back from my store. They had plenty in stock but said when that runs out, they have no idea when they will see anymore.
I have a brand new 1X, and a new SIM card. Hopefully this one works.
I stopped by a vzw store to look at the gnex and my hox side by side. I've decided to keep the HOX. Screen on the gnex was way too bright and I ran quadrant side by side on both phones. The hox blew the gnex out of the water.

Bought mine yesterday and this same issue happened to me today. Had full reception on 4G but could not send a text or place a call. Happened twice today, and I dont know if I want to return it ASAP or if its software related and may be fixed.

Hey all,
I recently picked up a LG G2 (second hand)
and I believe I have some issues with the phone not picking up LTE so easily.
Before this, I had Iphone 5, nexus 4, G Pro, Gnote2, etc... and they all picked up LTE just fine at my home
However, G2 rarely picks up LTE signal and it is mostly on HSPA+ (4G Icon) I believe.
I took it into AT&T store to see if I could get a new sim card but when I got there, the phone picked up LTE no problem.........
Looks like many Sprint users are experiencing same issue.. is there a fix for this??
*The phone is currently on stock / non-rooted 4.4.2
Thank you in advance!
I'm in the same boat as you, my data will work for a good 30+ min and then all of sudden no network for 30 seconds or so. I've also been unable to connect to a lte signal I've only been able to use hspa, searching the threads on here have been hit and miss with a lot of vague answers but nothing clear cut if anyone's dealt with this and has a clear fix it would be appreciated.

A little update to this, yesterday I went to AT&T to see if I could maybe clear this up with a new SIM card and while waiting I checked out the two G2s they had there, these two display phones were literally 10 ft apart and one had lte while the other one was stuck on 4g only. I think this is looking more like a hardware issue now after checking out both store phones on display, I'm going in today to swap out my handset to see if this will solve it.

Here's another update for those with lte or signal loss issues, after trying everything I could find on these forums the only answer was a warranty swap out, as soon as I put my SIM card into the warranty phone let showed up and after half a day I haven't experienced no random signal loss at all.

Interesting...
This is interesting. Currently running CM11 latest nightly and I thought it was due to CM codebase. It looks like non-CM related?
Please keep the details coming. When I have time, I will flash a stock ROM to see what happens. But at this point, it looks scary that maybe hardware problems might be there.
For comparison, 2 iPhones literally next to G2 had 3 bars with LTE while my G2 had no network.

After a full day and a half use now im fulling supporting the theory of a hardware fault. Before returning my phone for a replacement i was fully rooted on gardys kit kat rom with recovery, i had read that supposedly rooting or flashing was apparently breaking lte so i went back to the stock jellybean rom only to discover the issue still there, i then fully updated to the over the air kit kat update which also did not solve the issue. It really does look like theres a issue with the phone itself.

LTE picks up good when i walk into an att store and that is causing difficulty with store workers..

For me lte did not work at all even in store, I can see where you might have a issue if they can't reproduce the issue but just be persistent and they should take care of it for you. As for warranty you have a year from your purchase date for a warranty claim through At&t, I went through a device support center which you might have depending on where you live otherwise you can send it in. You must revert back to a complete stock state or you will be more than likely denied.

So I went through a bunch of phones in the past couple weeks, I have at&t service but my last phone was verizon droid maxx. Next I went to the AT&T store and he put my phone number under the new sim card for my AT&T LG G2 but the rep didn't ask me for the IMEI or look at the phone at all, he just got my line on the new sim and I left. I noticed the phone was going back and fourth to LTE but it was 4g (non LTE) about 70% of the time. I changed APN settings, I updated, nothing worked. Then I remembered a long time ago that if you go from android, blackberry, or iphone to another type of phone you would have to call att and make sure something was changed so I called att tech support and asked if they would put my IMEI under the new sim, the tech said yeah I should do that because currently my line doesn't show I have the g2 (make sure to call tech support because online it'll show you have a g2 and if you call costumer service usually they will see the g2 too) and after that i reset my phone and got LTE 100% of the time since then.
