Media server battery drain/play music error - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello all, I've tried a few different things but im still struggling to halt the media server/storage battery drain issue. I've tried to hot flash over cleanrom and I've tried stock and stick rooted with the media scanner root app all to no avail without multiple reboots every day. Has anyone found a real solution to this. Streaming music is one of the things I use my phone most for, esp in the car. The other issue I am having is ever since my update to Jb the Google play music app stops playing after 2 or 3 songs. Every time. It's really frustrating. I'm not sure if it's related to the media scanner root thing or what but I tried clearing data and re syncing and it's still an issue. Any ideas? Thanks for your help. I am currently on stock rooted Jb, but im willing to try anything as long as my battery life is good and my music is playing!

Im on Synergy and have been having the exact same issue. I've been asking around too and everyone has been ignoring me. Not sure what to tell ya man...

Rescan media root,& gsm battery,I used them both to help me with the same issues you were having, did you format your sd card that could also be the issue

[Q] music application and Rebooting problem

I just bought an HTC sensation from someone on Craigslist yesterday.
Noticed that the phone reboots randomly whenever I go into the music application and then press the back or home button. On average, one out of 4 times that i exit the music app, the phone will reboot.
Called T mobile, it seems impossible to exchange for a new one since I don't have the receipt and am not the original buyer.
Called HTC, was told they had never even heard of the problem before, told me to do a soft reset, then a hard reset, nothing works.
My questions are:
1. is this a software problem, or hardware problem??
2. Is there anyway for me to get a new phone? or is sending the phone to HTC to fix the best option right now?
Thanks in advance for any help.
anyone?? please!!!
any help is highly appreciated
It's most likely a software issue, in my case, the native music player is not showing my song list correctly, and almost everytime i choose a song and hit the back arrow, the music app force closes.
If you're not the original buyer I don't think you can ask t-mobile for an exchange.
Perhaps you should consider getting a new music player, I just tried PlayerPro from the android market, probably the best one out there, it works without problems, it even has a lot more features, however it's not free, but worth the money, or you can download a free player from the market, there are a lot.
Defective

I had the same problem. Brand new Sensation, I was over the moon, and when I tried to play music it just rebooted about 5 times!!!
Doing some research, just before I was going to do a hard reset, I read that taking the SD card out and formatting it was a possible solution.
Did it and it worked, so far no more random reboots, so fingers crossed!
It is very easy to do, and only takes 10 mins.
Hope it works
Which app are you using? Also you might want to do a full reinstall if the os and see if that is helpful. I use either poweramp or ubermusic and have not had those problems.

[Q] Does your music stutter?

I am about at my wits end and ready to sell this thing because my music stutters sometimes when multitasking. It happens most often when using the browser (open new tab, clink a link in an app that sends me to the browser, etc) but also occasionally happens just switching applications.
This happens when using the stock player with my own local .mp3 files as well as when streaming using either Pandora or Spotify.
I feel like I'm back in the days of my old Pentium I / Win 95 machine and I just don't think this should be happening.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Any tips on what to try? My next things to try are factory refresh and also a different music player (although I don't this will have any effect). I also have thought about getting an app from the market that will tell me cpu usage.
This is a WiFi only xoom, still stock, but soon to be rooted if I decide to actually keep it. I've had it for I guess 2 weeks and the audio stutter is one of the first things I noticed and is actually a big deal breaker for me since the main reason I bought the thing was so I could listen to music, watch movies, and browse the web. I'm just not sure if I got a lemon or not. It otherwise seems fine.
Factory reset should do it. Everybody says back up your apps but I never do. I like to go on the search for apps anyways
I get this as well. Bit annoying. Hope ics fixes it.

My music stutters like every two minutes. Even if the phone is resting
Droooooiiid.. the sound forever in our hearts and nightmares <3
same problem here. Since the very first day. I really hate it and every update I was hopeful that it will be fixed. Well, ICS is my next big hope...as long as it is a software issue
If it really bothers you that bad use a diff player from the market. When I use one it no longer stutters.. but i m a fan of the stock player otherwise

Have the same issue on my Xoom. Doesn't happen on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 though....

Happens to me with the default music but not Slacker or Pandora. Hmm...
Thanks for the replies. I guess I will have to try a factory reset. I'm using power amp player and still have the problem just like with the stock app. Power amp has an option to move to a larger buffer, which I'm hoping will help, at least for my local files. If not, factory reset is next.
Seems like a device with these hardware specs shouldn't have this issue though.
I think its not the hardware more the fact that honeycomb is a bodge job just to get into the tablet market.

Yes, this happens to me and is annoying. I try to ignore it so I don't remind myself I have a 600 dollar tablet that can't play music and browse at the same time

OK, I now have used Set DNS and set my wifi to Google DNS and get much faster downloads and that seems to have really helped with this music stuttering issue while browsing. I used both the updated PowerAMP app playing mp3s from my micro sdcard, and also streamed music using Rhapsody and no stuttering, no effect whatever, as I surfed. I don't know if this will help you, but it seems to have solved this problem for me.
Thanks I may try to give that a try. I don't really know how to do any of that, but I'm sure I can figure it out with google.
The $600 tablet that can't play music and browse comment is exactly why I have a dilemma. I wooted the xoom so I would have to sell it at whatever loss plus spend the extra $250 over what I paid for the xoom to get an iPad 2 of the same capacity of 32 GB. Even the 16 GB iPad 2 is still $150 more. Not that money is the issue, I'll spend the extra if I deem it worth it, but I just feel like the tablet market is changing quickly enough that who knows in 6 months to a year I'll probably want to get a different one any way, no matter whether I have a xoom or an ipad 2 right now. I really have grown to like the xoom and don't want to get rid of it over basically this one issue, and it's not like I can't get around the music stuttering issue by using my ipod or phone. I guess it's just that I feel I shouldn't *have* to do that.

The Xoom is really an awesome device and I think it will actually get better with a bit more time. Its problems basically are related to software and there are some solutions now and more coming. The DNS thing is something I hadn't bothered with but I saw something about that app (ugliest icon ever) in Android Police so I checked it out--very easy to set either Google DNS or Open DNS or another, depending on what works for you. I think the app requires root, but you can probably find a way to change it if you're not. I recommend rooting anyway, for a smoother and richer user-controlled experience.
Thought I would just revive this thread and say that I'm really glad I held on to my XOOM because I've been running some of the ICS builds and haven't had any music stutters. I had one moment of music "crash" where the music makes an awful buzz sound for a moment, which is because of using the equalizer built into the music player on ICS. I've had it multiple times on my GNex and it is already widely noted that equalizer may cause music to do this. But as of yet, fingers crossed, I haven't had a single stutters on music when multitasking. It would happen most often upon clicking links in a program that would then open the browser. I haven't done a ton of testing, but have listened to music for a good 4 hours now on my XOOM with EOS ICS while surfing and installing apps and what not and haven't had any stuttering.
In general ICS has made this tablet 10x more awesome than it was to start for me. It was a bit of a disappointment at first, has grown on me with time as I accepted it's shortcomings, but now with ICS is a tablet I'm excited and proud to own. Can't wait for official ICS and more ICS roms.

[Q] phone overheats with ROMs

Hi everyone,
I'm having overheating issues with the custom ROMs put up in the forums here. It's really frustrating because I love the interface but I can crashes and overheats pretty often.
I was running a rooted i727r with official ICS, I used ROM manager to flash to paranoid android ICS and JB, I also tried liquified (I think that;s what it's called) and everything runs great except I sometimes get overheating (up to 45 degrees celcius) at which point the phone just shuts itself off. And the worst part is that the battery gets super drained when that happens. I have done nothing to trigger and has happened when it was in my hand as well as in my pockets when in sleep mode.
I don't want to run official ICS, so if there is a solution, I'd be really grateful!
Also on an unrelated note, I can't get swype to work on these custom roms, does anyone have an idea?
Thanks in advance!
Use clockwork mod or twrp to flash and if you haven't yet, try your roms with the stock kernel.
Don't use rom manager and do some reading.

I tried using the CWM, it didn't help. Which version should I have? I was getting the same problem. I wiped everything twice as instructed too.

ROM Manager can and will brick your phone if you use it to flash ROMs on a Skyrocket. Read up and learn before doing things like that.
Stay on stock rooted and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, switch to a TW-based ROM and use the stock kernel. If your phone is still cool, then move with caution into AOSP territory (which seems to be where you want to go) and consider UC'ing/UV'ing AFTER you've read up on them and understand the possible side effects.
my phone gets hot sometimes, but usually when i'm browsing for a while. doesn't seem to be overly hot though but definitely hot to the touch

I don't mean to sound defensive, but I've read all the stickies...they tell me how to do things, not WHY to do things (kinda like a recipe book). I might be ignorant in the technicalities, but I know my way around following instructions. Telling me to just READ is not helping me, telling me WHAT to read or WHERE to go is better, and I'll be glad to read.
I took your many advices and flashed back to the semi-official ICS using the CWM recovery. The overheating and crashing problems are no longer happening, at least not during all of today which is a good sign in my eye. I still don't have an indication why it wasn't working when I used to the ROMs provided in the development section. I follow the instructions to the tee and I still had the problem (even when I used the CWM instead of ROM manager pro).
I was having severe heating probs. I never let it get so hot that it autoshutdown but I'd do it manually. I found that there was a serious wakelock happening and even while awake media scanner was going nuts. On it's own it just chewed up the battery but combine a high useage app with media scanner and the phone got hot. I ended up doing a stock rom install via Odin, reformatting my ex sd card. It's been good ever since. You haven't been using Zedge by any chance??

No it wasn't installed because I loved the roms built in ringtones but I did notice that it was taking longer than usual to read the media from the external sd card...do you think it had something to do with that?

Could be. Try pulling everything off your sd card and put on your pc. Format the card and put everything back on.

It is the Media card...a couple of my friends have had the overheating issues on their devices. I would suggest formatting the media card on the PC as previously stated. If that fails then try another SD card since it could just be the SD card.
Thank you all, I will give this a try and report back!

To solve media scanner consume battery during phone start .... Disable media storage via startup manager app and rescan media using f5 media scanner app... Download both from play store.... Help save alot of juice

I will opt to say that it might be more related to how you are using the phone.
I've ran plenty of custom roms even OC to 1.9ghz but the phone will get hot no matter what with heavy wifi usage or talking I must say.
With that said, the custom rom will most likely not help unless you aim for roms that aim for that kind of purpose.
Others may beg to differ but that's my 2centz.
Alright, so I did what some of you said and disabled the media storage at start up. The crashes and overheating are fixed! But, now I can't see my pictures that I stopped in the external sd card when I'm browsing for them through my files or through the gallery. I can, however, see them through third party file browsers. It's there a way that I can at least see them them in my gallery? I tried f5 but it didn't work.
Thanks in advance

Hi guys, I'm enjoying my note edge so far. However, the bluetooth issue bugs me. When i streamed music via Bluetooth on my car, it lags sometime, the music would either stutter or stop then play again. It did not happen when i
first got the phone and i already tried on another car, same issue happened. I also performed a factory reset and the problem didnt go away, samething happen with my gf's note 4 as well. So i just want to know if you guys know
how to fix it? or it just a problem with samsung phone in general. Thanks

FWIW, mine works without a hitch even when using the power saving setting regardless of source (game for kids, local music, network streaming, movies) or client (car, multiple wireless headsets, home sound system...etc.)
The only time I've experienced any issues was when I was tweaking clock frequencies or when trying to optimize for low power usage.
When you say you're getting the same response out of two separate devices, that seems to point more to the client than the source... but that's just a guess - perhaps you have a common app or setting on the devices?
Good luck
I dont know what wrong at this point, I'm considering calling tmobile for a replacement phone. I test my old Htc m8 on my car and it works just fine. And i only install basic app, banking app... Any one else has this problem?

Media intermittently pausing

Hey guys,
I've been getting constantly annoyed by an issue I encountered when I upgraded my XZ Dual to Android Nougat. For some reason, it does not matter what media app I'm using (Play Music/Youtube/Browser media). It will end up randomly pausing. At first I thought it was an issue with bluetooth streaming since I usually hear music on my car, but then I tried using the aux port too and it also produces the same issue. Not only that, even if I'm playing through the in-phone speakers, same issue. Many will say to turn off the app power saving feature, I did a few searches and know that the samsungs are prone to this problem, but I still have the same problem, doesn't matter if I'm connected to a charger it always happens! At this point I'm very desperate for a solution and trying to avoid at all costs to have to factory flash/reset the phone since it is a pain having to copy everything to the internal memory due to the ridiculous hybrid sim/sd design.
I'd appreciate some help!
