[Q] Scrolling in chrome - Asus Transformer TF700

Why the hell is scrolling in chrome sooooooo sloooooow???
Does anyone have any tips or tricks to improve this? I will settle for insight. My Tf101 had no problem with scrolling in chrome, so it's mind boggling that it is so bad on the tf700.
Also...I have tried it with both ICS and JB. No difference.

Well if your rooted then you can always try browser2 ram if not I suggest dolphin browser with the jet pack add on.

+1 browser2ram.
There is a difference between lag and slow scrolling though.
With lag sometimes the browser seems to freeze for a moment when attempting to scroll. Browser2ram fixes lag.
Slow scrolling, when a scroll up or down gesture moves a seemingly small amount of lines, is a difference between the stock browser and chrome. Browser2ram won't fix slow scrolling.

Also chrome does use GPU rendering I think

Exactly...it's the scrolling I am questioning. I just upgraded from a tf101 to the infinity, and really would prefer to use chrome...but the scrolling/swiping stinks.

When i scroll, sometimes the page doesn't start scrolling until my finger is almost off the device, as if it doesn't register my gesture immediately. Will browser2ram fix this?

If the tablet was busy writing something to the disk cache at that time, then yes. If it was due to some other reason, then no.

Ya somebody already posted this last night in this same forum. Anyway it does rock, I immediately uninstalled DolphinHD after trying this, it's pretty dang quick and like the look and feel of it.
Scrolling is still jittery like original dolphin hd compared to default, I hope they activate graphic acceleration on next update
How do you use gesture? The Dolphin HD has the button at the lower left corner you touch to put it in gesture mode. Can't find that anywhere on the Dolphin for tab
I like the interface more than HD but getting some FCs on some addons (xmarks)

I'm using it now and like the way it works.
Youtube speed test shows 30fps, scrolling could be better (slow redraws), there are a few issues when selecting text.
To use gestures press the "triangle in a circle" icon located on the top right and then draw your gesture.
Been using this since yest also... got rid of Dol HD as well. like the feel and speed is not bad. I am a big fan of the stock browser but this could be a good replacement.
accel would be a +.
took me a while to find the gesture button also. I actually think the top right is the best place for it. I think the swipe left and rt with the bk mrk menu coming out on top and a quick tap to get rid of is so much better than sliding the screen over

OK, so where is the gesture button?
Hit the arrow button on the upper right and then make a gesture.

It's nice, fast and clean. Scrolling isn't too bad. But I still notice keyboard lag, less than on the other 2 browsers I have (stock and Dolphin HD) but it's still there.
Tested flash on yahoo finance, which is an interactive applet I use. It's *fast*
I tried this last night and wasn't too impressed. It crashed on the first launch. Scrolling is not at all smooth like the default browser.
I really like that it automatically imports my bookmarks... that is really intelligent... however, it doesn't maintain the folder structure of the bookmarks, so they end up in one big mess, which kind of makes the auto import a moot point, since a person would have to organize them anyway.
I guess a person could always say "it's a beta"... which would be true... but I can't really see any advantage of this over the stock browser. Just my opinion.
Just tried it right now and the load time is not as fast as Opera Moblie. There is some lag when typing compare to Opera. Overall, for me much better then Dolphin HD. Wish Opera had the font sizes as Dolphin and Default browser. Opera Moblie with bigger font sizes =
Just tried it with youtube on 720p, it runs really well from the browser.
Is there a quick way of getting "history" other than through settings. Having to keep hitting the back button is a bit of a pain.
So is there anything interesting this does that the Stock browser doesn't? It sounds like it's not as smooth as stock.

Right now - not really. There was adblocker plugin but they removed it. Dolphin uses stock browser's ability to view pages anyway (it doesn't have it's own rendering engine). I like the interface of it better than of stock though.
i like the app but it is still in beta . it feel slower to me than the stock browser.
they final add a forward and backward buttion . i hate useing gersture to navigate

New Opera Mobile - say goodbye to slow page Loads!

Recent update = smooth fast page loads... no more missing white block stuff!
Are you refering to the 11.1 update ? If so agreed it certainly is very fluid in scrolling of pages.

Scrolling in update is no where as smooth as default browser u must be on something
Does it use the hardware rendering like the default browser?

I don't know. It's hella fast to me too. If it wasn't for the unoptimal flash performance, this would be the only browser I would need.
I think I might be brain-damaged - I spent like 20 minutes Googling how to enable Flash in Opera Mobile and apparently am missing something.
Could one of you fine people familiar with the browser enlighten me? It would be much appreciated. For what it's worth, the browser does seem better than I remember it.
Ya flash blows in opera mobile for what ever reason if it worked like stock or dophin i would switch
opera is far superior to every other browser except for flash its a shame

In what way does it blow default webbrowser? Not trying to troll but
1 flash is horrable
2 scrolling is no where near as smooth. so def doesn't use hardware rendering like default browser
3 scrolling doesn't lock in place
I have 2 transformers and side by side oprea doesn't load that much faster. Like people claming

stock browser is terrible at scrolling on mine. it constantly shows big white or grey blocks before it renders.
stock doesn't higlight links when you press them so you have to look at progress to see if it took.
favorites in opera are easier to deal with with touch screen.
yes flash is broken

I have to agree... I tried the Opera update last night and it wasn't that impressive. I keep hoping a really good browser (or browser update) will come along and de-throne the default browser, but it hasn't happened yet.
I guess it is different for everyone? I'm running HD 1.21 with clems v13b kernel (not overclocked) and opera for me flies regarding scrolling speed. Have not ran into flash issues yet. I will take a video of mine in operation and post here to see what I mean.
EDIT: Video Attached - can't imagine it being any smoother than this....night and day between stock/dolphin/maxthon etc. YMMV.

I'm not having much luck with Opera flash either. Frustrating.

No Opera flash will not perform as well as it does in stock or dolphin. If all you really want is fast flash then stick with one of those two. I would love to see a video of someone navigating to the general transformer page on stock browser and then do a fast scroll. If your screen is not filled with larger blocks of blank space as it renders then we are definitely all seeing different
Those blocks show up for a fraction of a second depending on how much stuff is on the website, iPad has the same feature ro make everything butter smooth Also Only shows up if u scroll really fast so its really a non issue.

U should do a video with both web browsers comparing issues on the same website because the video didn't explain much.
have you gone in to settings >advanced>adobe flash > enable. flash is working fine for me, although I do have to ck to load it.
on another note this recent opera build is fantastic and since the last transformer update the stock browser hasn't worked well for me. At all.

Sorry... I thought that the blocky loading/scrolling issue in the stock browser was obvious to everyone? If your stock browser loads pages just like opera does in the video, then you are golden and no need to change. My stock browser loads like a pig compared to that video of opera.

Yeah, I also find the stock browser to be heaps better than Opera Mobile in pretty much every respect.
I love Opera Mobile on my phone, but it just doesn't work as well with the tablet form-factor.
This blocking problem seems to affect all Webkit based browsers such as the stock browser and Dolphin.
It's really strange because even if you wait until a page is entirely loaded and then try a fast scroll it still blocks out, so it must be problems with the OpenGL support that makes the slow scrolling look so silky smooth.
If this could be sorted then it would be stock browser for me as I use Chrome on the PC.

Wow. Stock ICS browser isnt bad....

So I've been using opera even after the ICS upgrade but today started playing with the stock browser this morning and gotta say, its pretty quick. And I've hadn't had any real issues with it not letting me post in forums as with both opera and dolphin. Pretty decent....

Agree. Runs pretty smooth, i also use Chrome and it's really buggy and laggy sometimes.
My only two gripes about stock browser are...
Sometimes typin a search query into address bar just keeps wanting to load a web page instead..
And when you press bookmarks button, theres no way to have you synced gmail ones show up on top. It always shows local first.
Not big deals... I use stock browser more than any else.. Full screen option os nice too.
yup, i like using the stock browser compared the the HC stock browser. I use it alot.
The stock browser has a scrolling problem. When you start to scroll up and down page there is no chance to move on sides unless you stop to scroll. However if you start to scroll diagonally you can move the page to all directions.

I think it's a feature to make straight scrolling easier, it may be a bit too strong though.
And it seems to be in the stock firmware's scrolling system itself, as it's visible in other apps too.

Has scrolling been improved in 4.4.2?

When I was using 4.3 the scroll was by no means slow, but I had the occasional stutter here and there in apps like Chrome or baconreader.
Since I've updated I've noticed that the scrolling is even smoother than before, in baconreader I don't get any stutter at all, it's just crazy fast, and Chrome too.
So, was there anything done to scrolling or performance in 4.4 or it's just placebo effect?

I don't know about the scrolling, to me it was always really good so I cant tell the difference. But at least kikat fixed my parsing package problem :]

google chrome slow and laggy

Is there any reason why my google chrome, after awhile, becomes really sluggish and laggy. Like sometimes when scrolling down, it just down right freezes there for a good minute before resuming control. Loading and changing pages causes really choppy and laggy performance. I have turned off the "merge tabs and apps" setting.
I know the simple solution would be to change browsers, but I do like this one. I would have assumed this browser is really good with the nexus 5 as they are both from google :/
Same here

Though it is a Chrome problem, you can fix it by using certain kernels. I am using Codeblue 938 and Sooplus latest for that matter.
It's so darn bloated. It stops scrolling on mine. I had enough. Took it out and put the new adaway /Firefox browser instead. Adaway is made by an xda Dev. It has a setting allowing fair advertising but gets rid of the intrusive. You can get rid of all advertising but I'm with adaway. Things have to be paid for in a reasonable way. Chrome is a mess and I'd advice you to junk it. It's still stuttering and sticking on 5.1.1
