ISIS on the latest ota jellybean - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Has anyone gotten ISIS working?
My local Verizon store swears that even though jellybean just released today that today they also revoked support for ISIS because of problems.

Google Wallet works better. You should root your phone and try that

Yes I have Google wallet. Wanted to try it ISIS since I live in one of the test areas. Compare the two. Verizon fail all over the place.

You have to have the special NFC sim cards for ISIS to work.

So I picked up an nfc sim. Still nada. Can't see ISIS in mobile market and through Web says my SGS3 is incompatible. Oh well guess I won't compare and I'll just stick with Google wallet.

Incase anyone else is interested Verizon fixed the problem overnight. So you can now install ISIS btw you don't need the nfc sim installed to install the app. Not sure about actually using /setting it up. I believe you will need that sim to do anything in the app.

I'm In Michigan and I installed the app but it would not let me set it up. So I tweeted to verizonsupport and they sent me a SIM card that is compatible with Isis. I received the SIM card today and setup the account. I also recieved the free ten dollars. So now i have to see if it works at a store.

I encourage everybody to pass on ISIS and the carriers bull****.

Help a n00b out... where can you actually use Isis? I have Google Wallet working on my Nexus 7 and have used it at a few places...much to the astonishment of employees and customers... but even there, very limited support.

ISIS supports the same services (paypass, paywave, etc) that wallet supports. So basically you should be able to use it at the same locations.

I just got the OTA from VZW last week and since I saw ISIS in the change list I figured I'd give it a go even though I'm in NY not SLC/Austin.
I called Verizon and they sent me a NFC SIM, and I still had trouble getting it to go but I got it eventually. It was a pain in the neck to set up and add cards but I got it going. On Amex's page about ISIS it says: "Use it where American Express contactless payments are accepted.* Just look for the universal symbol for contactless payments or signs that say "Isis Ready™."
by saying "or" it seems to imply not just in ISIS ready places like SLC/Austin, but anywhere AMEX ExPay is accepted, which is all over the country! I didn't see the same about Chase.
I'll give it a go today in NY and I'll let you know if it worked.
Overall, I must say so far, I like the app better than Google Wallet. It seems like they charge the card direct as opposed to Google which has a system of charging their virtual MC first then charging you, (This could be dis-advantageous regarding benefits that the card would give you, like bonus points at certain category merchants etc.). The only major problem is that it only takes Chase, Amex, and Cap1. but that isn't such a problem for me because I pretty much only use Chase and Amex cards.

I've got it installed, but it will not let me set it up. I live in Pittsburgh, so it may not be a test area. It's strange that it kicks me out of the app though.

Do you have a NFC SIM? you'll need one for it to work and Verizon will send you one free.
I live in New York and I haven't had an issue setting it up.

Update: I successfully used ISIS to pay at a Brooklyn, NY RiteAid store. I had it set to use a Amex card and I checked straight away and there was a pending charge that appeared normal (unlike Google Wallet transactions which would show up as GOOGNFC*name-of-merchant). When I tried to pay, nothing was happening, so I took off the slim case I have on the back of my phone (GW never had any problems working through this case) and then tried again. Even then nothing happened, I was about to give up and began to pull out my wallet to get a real card, when the terminal came to life and said "Processing Contacless Payment". I'm not sure if it managed to read through my case or if it only read after I removed the case, but if it's the latter, that might be due to the fact that ISIS doesn't utilize the built in NFC chip rather it uses the one embedded into the SIM which is obviously much smaller (the built in one relies on an antenna as big as the battery) and therefore has a much shorter range.
The bottom line is so far I still like it better than GW, my only concern is that it mentioned that if it detects unusual root access in the OS, it will not operate. I don't plan on staying stock unrooted for too much longer!

Google Wallet today?

Based on a leak I read on Android Community there may be a launch today. I know that 2.3.5 OTA had stuff in it to enable using NFC payments. I doubt ROM's such as CM7 will be able to use it. Anybody else hear anything.
That would be cool! It should work on CM7.

Will this only work with Nexus 4G? What about Nexus S GSM with 2.3.5 ROM like CM7 nightly?
Same question here. Why would they launch it only for the 4g when the 3g is equally capable?

Because Google partnered with Sprint to develop it as an alternative to efforts that were already in progress.
T-Mobile is partnered with AT&T and Verizon with Isis for their mobile payments. Rumor so far is that T-Mobile is resisting allowing it on their network due to their involvement with Isis.

It's yet to be seen if it will work outside of Sprint's network initially. I hope so, but testing should be simple enough once the apk is available.

That's yet to be seen, but potentially yes. I would love to use Google Wallet personally and hope that it will work on T-Mobile's network (immediately would be great) using a 2.3.5 ROM.
Unfortunately you've got the credit card companies and carriers both scrambling for the tiny margin that exists within this business and the credit card companies trying not to lose any of the slim profit they earn on each purchase. So they are all scheming together to get the best deal for everyone without giving up too much. The consumer isn't much of a driving force as much as they continue to be a vehicle for profit and business.
Both groups are trying to determine how to do deployment of hardware to POS sites and who is going to bear this cost so that a roll out can be effective without putting undue burden on merchants (who would likely reject it if they had to bear the initial cost before wide spread adoption). If they can't get merchants to adopt it then it will never be available to consumers to even have a chance at success. It's quite tricky given the limited market.
Personally I love how Google Wallet looks and the integration it promises with coupons, loyalty cards and eventually digital receipts. If a competing standard does come to light I hope that it is a similarly robust solution.

Doesn't seem to mention Nexus S 4G nor restrictions other than needing to have Nexus S phone and MasterCard.
However, there are a few barriers to entry to get Google Wallet running. For one, users need the Android-based Nexus S smartphone, which has an NFC chip in it. In addition, the service is only available with MasterCard's PayPass system. According to the Google Wallet site, the service will work with Citi MasterCard credit cards and the Google PrePaid Card. In addition, Google Wallet can store "gift cards from participating merchants," Google says.

Google stated during the Google Wallet presentation a while back that it would launch on the NS4G and Sprint exclusively but they were working with other carriers to also bring it to the GSM Nexus S. They were not going to do it without carrier consent though seemed to be the implication.

Potentially - we'll see what's in the update package. I'm sure the APK itself will be written in the /system partition - necessitating an update package to write it there. We'll see what else gets pushed on top of an AOSP build with it.
I really dislike all this proprietary, walled garden technology making the rounds these days. That anyone would potentially have to factor in their preferred credit card company in choosing which cell phone network to use is ludicrous.

Wallet problem
Greetings everyone!
A little background first. Verizon SGS3, rooted and unlocked, but still on stock TW.
I completed the steps in the above mentioned thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769083, and everything seems to be working ok. I have made a few purchases and it works, however I am thinking something is wrong.
Let me explain. When I go to make a purchase, it will make the POS machine flash/beep, etc., but then shows on my screen that the trans. may not be good/complete. The cashier continues the sale like normal, the receipt prints and all is good, but it just takes a min standing in line to make sure that all is well. Then after a while, the trans will show up in Wallet (on the phone) in the list.
Is this normal for you all?
Second thing is that I can't see my Google PrePay card in the online Wallet page. I can see the other cards that I have added in both places, phone and online, but I can't manage the new card that was given when I signed up. Therefore, I am stuck adding funds on the phone.
Should I do a reset? Will this lose the $ that I have added to the PrePay card, or will it magically pick it back up when I re-setup Wallet on the phone? I have read that I need to write down the card number (user ID) in case you need it, and I assume that this is one of those times.
Any ideas?
TIA for the help.
I'm not seeing it either unfortunately. I was just getting ready to try the workaround & then saw your post. Oh well, guess I'll still try the workaround.
Is it possibly just a regional thing? I read somewhere that they were getting ready to roll out ISIS in a couple of markets soon - is it possible that they unblocked Wallet in those markets to avoid the 'how do you justify blocking wallet as a security concern if you're now allowing ISIS' question?
Dunno.

Nexus 5 and NFC payments

Hey everyone!
I got my Nexus 5 last week and I feel that one of the features that is often overlooked in most of the reviews and forums is the "Tap & Pay" feature using NFC. I didn't try it out myself till a few days ago and it has turned out to be one of my top reasons to love the Nexus 5.
After you link the google wallet app to Tap & Pay and setup a pin, you are able to use your phone to make payment at PoS devices that support this feature. Now, a lot of people say this is very limited but I live and work in Jersey/NYC and a lot of major retailers have this option. ShopRite/ Walmart/ NYC cabs/ Pharmacies etc.
The best part is the look on people's faces when i whip out my Nexus 5, complete my transaction with a light tap and answer their questions with "It's the new Nexus 5 !! " Even my friends who have HTC One/S4/iPhone can't compete with that because they can't have google wallet due to stupid carrier/bank restrictions. Their version of google wallet, Isis, is nowhere as good and iBeacon (ios) isn't releasing anytime soon.
If you live in a major city, then there are bound to be a lot of places where this will come in handy. Anyone else have any experiences with Tap & Pay?
Definitely a cool feature. I tried this out last week for the first time ever. I have to see how many stores have this feature in Miami / ft Lauderdale. Coming from ios this say never possible.
Will be in NY next week

Definitely a cool feature, but not limited to N5. I love the reaction I get when I use my phone for payment. Just today, at Sports Authority, I used Tap and a Pay, the cashier was definitely surprised, she asked about it and was so disappointed to hear that iPhones can't do the same thing.

anyone figured out how to get this working in Australia?
The REAL and the only reason why I returned my Note3 back to T-Mobile, is for this tap-&-pay service through Google Wallet.
I've gotten fed up with all the carrier restrictions crap, and the fiasco with ISIS.

You'd have to get the cards into google wallet, which it won't let you here.
OTOH since most of the functionality is now in the OS, it's entirely possible someone could write a tap & pay app using that framework that worked in the UK.
Since I live in Salt Lake City, I was in the test market for Isis. I must say it was pretty neat to be able to use my Note 2 to tap and pay to get on the transit system. The bad thing was, half way through my ride back home my phone died. The police on the transit system have NFC scanners that they use to verify if you actually paid with that device or not so having a dead phone wouldn't prove that you made a payment. In that case they either give you a ticket for a first offense or fine you and kick you off at the next stop. Thankfully they didn't check in time for me to get off at my stop.
I only used Google Wallet twice and it worked just as well as Isis, if not a bit faster.
I will say though, its either really cool when it works but its also really embarrassing when it doesn't. A few times I tried tapping the phone and nothing happened. Pretty awkward situation

Wow. I'm amazed that any police department would invest in the equipment and training to do this. Very cool.
I haven't gotten it to work yet. It's setup, and to be fair i've only tried at Walgreens....
I've been waiting for this feature in Canada since GNex time, but Google Wallet doesnt work here, and theres no alternative either..
How do you know if a register is NFC enabled? Is there a sign or something where you would normally swipe a card or something that says tap here?
I've been using NFC payment on my N4, and before that on a rooted S3 with the Xposed patch for Google Wallet. It always surprises people when I pay with my phone, and one woman (who runs a Pho restaurant near my offices) has to show everyone when I come in and pay with my phone.
I find a few things humorous about ISIS:
- ISIS is not available on the Nexus series of phones, even though they have the hardware and software to support it.
- ISIS SIMs are not available locally through the carrier, even after launch.
I hope ISIS succeeds, but if it doesn't I hope that Google will buy the consortium out and integrate them into Wallet.

Look for either the NFC, Mastercard PayPass, Google Wallet, or Isis logos. Lot of the registers here in SLC has the Isis and Paypass logos.

These Utah cops don't play around. I'm not quite sure how the scanner actually determines whether or not you paid though. Maybe the device stores an ID in the system or something. They've been using the technology for years since University Students get an NFC card that grants them free rides.
I haven't tried an nfc payment on my nexus 5, even with my nexus 4, I have wanted too but I didn't want to be "that guy" at the register incase something goes wrong.
I would love to start using this.. unfortunately, google doesnt like anywhere else except US.. lol
No google wallet up here in Canada
Used it three times at McD and the guys there were blowing away. They all ask what app was that.
works flawlessly for me. seems faster too, though that may be a trick of the mind (coming from GNex)
My wallet account has credit card linked but I can't select it in the Tap and Pay settings screen. Wallet isn't even listed. ?

Works on a stock VZW Moto X running 4.2.2 fwiw... I think once it worked how ISIS did, there was no "reason" to block it anymore - but i could be wrong.
Google sort of forced verizon's hand because it completely changed the way Wallet gets security, so verizon was not able to block it anymore. It was made to work with HCE so any device that supports HCE should work with wallet tap and pay now. Take that verizon!
Works well
I used Isis for the 1st time today at McD's and it worked great. Thanks to the board for the $40 credit heads up. Free lunches for me for a while.

Yep. Its better for all phones, not just Verizon ones. Any phone with HCE support in the ROM (which is almost all 4.4 ROMs) will work with Wallet and Isis.
No more secure element to worry about screwing up. This was a pain for people who swapped ROMs and whatnot and forgot to reset wallet.

I used Isis for the 1st time today at McD's and it worked great. Thanks to the board for the $40 credit heads up. Free lunches for me for a while.

If you are using Isis with Serve, you should also be getting a $1 credit back with each transaction >$1, a promo that goes through May?
Works especially well to buy me a Pepsi @ $1.06 each time
That is enough to get me to use isis instead of Google wallet until June, even though I prefer Google wallet.

Samsung Pay

I used Samsung pay for the first time yesterday and it worked flawlessly just like the demos I've watched online but the merchant did not have a NFC terminal so they didn't understand how I was able to pay. At first they said "we don't have apple pay" so I explained the service I was using but then they asked me for my ID and credit card which brings me to the problem, they said your receipt card number does not match your physical card number. After some more explaining and handing my phone over to show the virtual card number which matched, I was finally able to complete my purchase. This is probably a one off situation but it almost makes me not want to use the service because of the huge hassle. Anyone else experience this?

I have used it multiple time in several different locations and have not been asked for I.D. .
Just a few amazed looks is all I have encountered.

I don't mind the ID part, I just feel like it defeats the purpose if I have to present my physical card which doesn't even have the same number as the one used for the transaction.

I'm sure it'll get better once more banks participate and more and more people use it.
I think the biggest problem right now is the limited number of banks/cards that can be used and therefore the use of Samsung pay is limited to a small percentage of Samsung owners.
No one seems to know about Samsung pay as a result.

Dont let one person discourage you from this. A receipt shows up on your phone for the purchase and because they are not up to date on technology outside of Apple Pay does not mean you should have to suffer.
Keep amazing people and enjoying your Samsung Pay I know I am:good:
I haven't had anyone ID me either. Though I have had a couple places where it didn't work. Such as the post office,7 eleven, and the dollar store. Other then that it works great. Anyone try redbox yet? Not sure how the whole Tokin thing works when your card can be charged after the initial transaction.

Anyone know when more banks will be added? I wanted to get the free wireless charging pad offer but I have no cards I can add to Samsung pay.
