[Q] Pulling an APK from a ROM - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hey guys I was wondering can I pull an apk from one ROM and install it in another ROM? I wanted to get the Sony Walkman apk from the "|ROM| Jedi Jelly 727 |4.1.2| UPDATED" Rom and install it into CM10. So I downloaded the Jedi Jelly ROM, unzipped it (on my laptop) went into the app folder pulled the APK for the Sony Walkman and moved it into my SD card. Then tried to install it on CM10. Then install shows up when I press on the Walkman apk and it tries to install but then says app not installed. Was wondering why I would be having this issue? I have done it in the past with some other apks from different roms. Any advice or explanation would be great thank you.

If you check the themes and apps section at acid audio mods has one for Sony walkman with awesome beats etc.. and some time you need to change permissions after you place the apk in the proper file locations then install

Thanks for the advice. Going to go check it out now.

I believe the walkman app would be a system app and you don't "install" system apps. You simply copy and paste the apk to /system/app/ using root explorer, without tapping on it. Then set it's permission to rw-r--r-- and reboot.

[APP] SGS3 Music Player + Beats Audio

Have come across a beautiful SGS3 Music Player ported for SGS2. It works fine in our device.
FULL CREDIT GOES TO THE BELOW ORIGINAL POST
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1726776&highlight=ported
[CWM flashable zip for SGR is available in 3rd post below ].
Beats Audio
After flashing the latest beats audio libs (attached), the music quality in headset has certainly been improved. It doesn't add any Bass to the music but indeed it adds quality to the music.
[TESTED ONLY IN STOCK 4.0.4 DEODEXED]. I have no idea about other ROMs. Please keep the CWM backup ready .
Don't forget to Thank the developer in the original thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525226
[Update]
For the music lovers who wants the right music player (besides Poweramp) that uses beats audio libraries here you go.
MIUI Player with Beats audio rocks. Unlike SGS3 ported player, MIUI has equalizers. Though it doesn't have predefined effects option to choose (that supports all the effects of beats) but still it rocks and it is the best player that uses beats audio as of now.
If I find any DSP manager modded with beats that really supports all the beats music effects and works fine with SGR, will keep you informed.
Please Hit THANKS if you like my work and it is totally free

Can you check if the below files exists and their permissions as well.
Inside /system/app folder - MusicPlayer.apk
/system/lib - libmusicsquarelib.so
The permissions should be rw-r--r--

Cwm zip seems to be perfectly fine. I removed the files manually and then flashed the zip file. Got the files back and everything working fine.
Can you check the free space of system lib folder.
If you have experience in moving files to system folder you can extract the zip file and manually move the files inside system folder.

EDIT: I tried installing the apk file and it works! Anyway, does the in app equalizer work? I tried changing the equalizer but didn't hear any difference. And what is music square for?

1.Download the Android 4.2 Launcher apk file and transfer it to a convenient location on your phone.
2.If you are using a Nexus Device or running an AOSP /AOKP based stock Android ROM, you need to be rooted. Download Titanium Backup and uninstall your default Android 4.1 launcher. Welcome relief from TW crashing on my Note2 n7100
After much work, I got it working on my AOKP Swagger (by Frankinstine - link in sig).
What I did:
1. Titanium Backup - Backup Launcher
2. Root Explorer - Copy Android-4.2-Launcher.apk to /system/app, set permissions to rw-r--r--
3. Recovery - Nandroid Backup (Just cause)
4. Root Explorer (just open it, so it's in your recents)
5. Titanium Backup - Uninstall Launcher2
6. Root Explorer - rename "Android-4.2-Launcher.apk" to "Launcher2.apk"
7. Root Explorer - select Launcher2.apk and install it.
8. Titanium Backup - Restore Launcher "Data Only" (widgets do not restore)
9. Reboot
Running fine for me now.
any way to reduce home screens on it? i would like to have only 2 home screens on it? or not possible, yet?
Why is this so hard for all of you? I'm running CM10, I just did
Code:
adb install 4.2_Launcher2_signed.apk
and it installed.
Tanks!
I just copied it to system/app with original name (4.2...) and after - deleted Launcher2.apk. Reboot and voila - it's done. And icons layout saved

Hi,
I'm not an android developement expert but have a question about your advice.
If we delete only the app from /system/app folder (and nothing more. via root explorer), won't it cause trouble?
I would like to give an example for clearing this issue in my mind. In windows, if we just delete the exe file from the Program Files, it doesn't mean we uninstalled the program. It still lefts dll files etc. Is it like this in android?
I asked this because I wanna uninstall the apk's in my custom rom like Google Player or DSP Manager. The developer installed them inside the custom rom, so they look like system apps and as a result I can't uninstall them...
replace them via root explorer and check the permission for new file then restart your device and it will work

adroid system are module style, a apk consist of every thing needed to run the apps. but some app need extra lib file, if you can find the lib file used by a apk to run, than you can delete it form system/lib too.
Exactly what the post above said. Some system apps have .lib files (like windows dll) but i would leave them if i were you because your replacement apps might have dependancies on those lib files. Im not entirely sure.
Also, the libs are stored in system/lib

Apps specially for ICS won't work in gb roms. These 2 version of roms are quite different.
Pls don't simply mess up with the roms version.

Btw, if you back up your original rom's apk files, there is a chance to use them on your custom roms. It has a higher chance if your custom is based on your original rom.
For example, I backed up samsung's music player and photo editor apk on original DDLF2 and installed them on my custom Frankestain rom. Now I'm using them with no problems. I must mention, the original fm radio apk didn't work on custom rom, as it needen some special libraries/frameworks.

Resized Apollo for Ldpi devices.[Latest Sources as of 23.01.2013]

Hi recently got my hand on the latest apollo sources (well atlest they got updated translations) from cyanogenMod github and compiled it fixing the genre and playlist problem as well as the 4x2 widget.
now big thing
if you want to install as system app take system_apollo.apk(yes they are all apk files) and push it to /system/app folder and rename as Apollo.apk now give permission rw-,r--,r--
and reboot. done.
if you want an easier way just take signed_Apollo.apk and install it as a normal apk file.
this should work in android 4.0.4, 4.1.2 ,4.2.1
Android 4.2.x[Tested]
Android 4.0.x[Untested]
Android 4.1.x[Untested]
should work on all LDPI phones with the correct android versions
All files are in attachment.
Remember to take the correct file
For Developers who want to include this in their roms :
Sources just replace Apollo source code with this changes for layout made to dimens.xml and adapter genre and playlist change.
And please don't for get to give me credit for this miniscule work .
