[Q] To buy or not to buy! - Asus Transformer TF700

Hey all,
I have a Tf201, but because of the poor wifi I am thinking to buy a new tf700 before the New Year!
I already have a bad experience with the prime TF201, 3 times RMA in one year and they couldn’t fix the wifi!
So I was looking to the forum to see if there is any problem with the TF700, I saw one major issue which is the I/O.
Now my question, is it a real issue for everyone?! Is it that big! Is TF700 still a buy!?
If not what is the best tablet in the market now, or maximum in one month?
Too bad I cannot consider the nexus 10, 1st: it is not easily available in Europe and 2nd: SD card is something important for me.
Maybe Samsung!!?
Thank you for your replies

sorry i just saw another thread with same question.
my bad

What Tablet Should I Wait For?

Whats the next big tablet? 2 months maybe even 6? i may wait 6 months for one.
is there anything great coming?
sell me a tablet plz lol
Nothing too groundbreaking has been announced but if you keep waiting, something will just end up replacing what you just got within a month or so.
My advice is get one of Transformer tablets, OG or Prime, get the dock and have fun.
depends on what os you want. i've heard ipad3 is in the makings. if you want something now though go for the transformer prime. still pretty new with a quad-core. (antutu benchmarks have the tf prime up to 10,000 vs xoom @ 4500 or my TP @ 5500)
Was going through some of the threads on tablets and found out this. Might be of some help to you.
Asus and nVIDIA unveils 7-inch Tablet powered Tegra 3 with ICS for $249

seems like you're never really on top of the chain. as soon as you buy something, a new tablet will come out shortly thereafter and give you a case of buyer's remorse
just get one which you enjoy
...Or you can wait for the rumored Galaxy Tab 11.6 which has a super high-res display and a dual core A15 soc.
Get a hp touchpad and pop cm7 on it?
If you need one now, I'd either go for the Transformer Prime or Galaxy Tab 7.7(amazing screen). While the former might be more future proof, the latter sure has the edge when it comes to display quality.

Transformer Prime is the best out ATM, nothing else as good has really been announced.
If you decide to wait for the next great new tablet you may be waiting a while.
I don't think Google will be able to do anything with Motorola for quite a bit of time (possibly even until 2013)
I am definitely interested in getting a tablet but I want to wait for something with native ICS support and high res. I don't (really) have internet at home and plan to use it as an offline, media consumption device. I am the type tho that will keep waiting and never actually buy one because I am waiting for something better.
thanx for the help guys, im still not sure what i would want though.
i was going to buy the transformer, but i want to wait for the second one to be released.

Considering a xoom, still a good option?

have been looking round for a tab, while the transformer prime seems best its now almost double the cost of the xoom, even though the xoom is quite old, it seems anything else around is still tegra2 or dual core similar spec hardware to the xoom, so i dont see any point apart from the weight in getting anything newer or more expensive, is it still a good option guys? you can get one for around £260 in the UK where as the transformer prime would be £499 and the original transformer maybe £350
i just returned a scroll extreme as it was just soooooooooooooo laggy!! i dont want anything with huge lag like that again
This late? I wouldn't buy the xoom today at its current price.

So I'm the first to respond...the original Xoom is a wonderful device and is even better now than it was when it was new because it has ICS official update, and best of all, the most fantastic developers and real bleeding-edge advances in Xoom software. It's so well built and sturdy that the bit of additional weight doesn't matter. In my opinion the Xoom is still the best tablet available, as everything works well and there's tons of additional functionality with custom roms.
The xoom is built like a tank and with it's specs what else out there is better for the money. I have two of them and the last one I picked up for $315 U.S.
Picked up 32 gb wifi only xoom a few months back with original box and 5 cases (4 still sealed) for $275 off craigslist. Didn't think it was too bad and I'll be keeping xoom for awhile

the only thing i can see maybe 'better' for the money is the asus transformer 101 maybe just because its a little lighter and can be expanded with the kb if need be, also the connectivity looks a little better placed, and its just as supposed with roms and people using it. These are both £290 ish in the UK?
i mean the xoom 2 is a little more expensive but for that lighter slimmer body you lose the expansion slow, sure you can use the usb host but i dont like that idea, would prefer an expansion slot, the galaxy tab just seem out there with the price, then you have the acer a200 which ones again is similar so im thinking the original xoom or asus transformer in this price bracket is the best option...
I only got my Xoom about 3 weeks ago, £280 from PC world. Been an android guy for a year now so did my research to see what the community support was like. Noticed that we're getting official CM9 support, that made the deal even sweeter. Still team EOS provide excellent support on AOSP builds. Even in terms of specs, great screen, great processor, can be overclocked (and stable). In my opinion this is still a great buy!
I too want to buy a tablet. But I'm confused between xoom, galaxy tab 10.1 and transformer TF101.
So what do you guys suggest?
My requirements are, good support by Dev community and which wont brick easily...
Thanks..
Peace.
Hi I just picked up a Motorola Xoom WiFi 32GB via a pricerunner.co.uk search. This got me a £5 discount making the delivered price just under £245. I tried to upgrade to ICE/Android 4.0, but managed to “Brick” the device …so be warned and be patient.
Fortunately I manage to resolve this issue with the help of some XDA forum links, YouTube and Motorola site itself. I will try and write up the details of my problem and solution in another thread.
I am now back to the original Android 3.2 version and so far I am very happy the XOOM.

the Xoom has great community support and as far as I know the galaxy tab 10.1 does too because that was another option of mine and community support is a big factor when I buy a new product both I believe are getting official CM9 support. i can't speak for the TF101,I don't know much about that one

I have all three and the best will be the one you can find at the best price. All three are near similar hardware with each having an advantage/disadvantage to the others.
Community/Dev support I would have to say the Xoom wins though...as well as being difficult to brick. Google "Experience" device really makes the Xoom a great device.
(I use the Xoom, my wife is using the Transformer and I gave my mother the Galaxy Tab).
in my opinion, its the best tablet for the cost.
main cons are weight and potentially out of date hardware. that hasn't stopped it from being the first official device to receive 4.0.4
would love if i could get a 2nd one as backup.
HD dock is wonderful. it even works with my otterbox.
Xoom is the best overall tablet. Newer tablets have shinier items, but considering the durability, functionality, support and overall user experience, I don't think you could go wrong buying a xoom.
I do have a Xoom either and I think it's a good choice and you won't regret buying it. It isn't expensive for its quality and it runs very well and smoothly especially with CM9 ICS.

Actually, the Xoom has a better frame rate than the Transformer 101. You could search for the thread that proves it somewhere here in General or Q&A (sometime last summer?).
If you can find one for a good price I think it's a no-brainer. Great build quality and great active devs on XDa. What more could you possibly ask for?

Actually xoom is not availiable online right now and the one availiable in stores is a 3g model which is out of my range. So I was thinking about buying galaxy tab..
So what do you guys suggest? Should I go for the tab or spend some extra bucks on xoom?
I really can't decide.. coz both of them almost same...
Peace.

check craigslist in your area, or look on ebay. do your research and you are sure to find a great deal!
I've had Xoom since almost release day. Wifi at start and chose it over the galaxy tab just cause it felt more rugged. Tab was nice but felt cheep. Haven't regretted it one bit. Now I own 2 xooms, wifi and 4g, wifi one my son mainly uses. Got my 3g/4g on Craigslist for 400, came dock, leather case and original box.
based on your guys opinions here and elsewhere, i ordered the xoom and should have it in my hands tomorrow. really excited about this device! i even changed my sig already

Just Ordered

As the title says, I have just ordered my Infinity from the USA to Australia. 32GB no dock. Hoping that I can get a good one because after reading these forums a little more its starting the look a little like the Prime forum. But I suppose everyone reports there issues and if nothing is wrong no one says anything. The guy at BuySPRY.com said that they have had 500 orders and only 1 return. Hopefully I get mine within about 4 days as they say which should mean I could get it at the end of the week considering I ordered last night
Congrats on your decision and future acquisition of the Infinity. Sounds like the company you're going with has a reassuring throwback rate and quick delivery. Let us know if you got a good 'un!
Excellent
Here's to hoping your new infinity works as expected!
New to the Asus brand myself.
I'm sure you'll have many hours happiness with that new tablet.

I had the Prime and got that sent back for a DOA assessment, never came back so I asked for a refund. Not much point keeping something thats dodgy.
Tracking numbers are so agonising, been in Cincinatti for over a day now, make me think its lost!! haha
Hoping hat they are just slow to refresh cos 2 days in one destination is quite honestly hopeless, anyone else had any experience with DHL. Even though I selected to ship with FedEx, its still going with DHL.
Hi guys, just thought I would let you know that my Infinity arrived today and the best thing is, I was a lucky one. No clicky screen, updated firmware, no light bleed, just all good. Thanks everyone for persuading me, now the fun begins!

Have fun! And the thing is, its not that your lucky for getting a solid tablet its actually normal to get one with little to no issues. It's easy to feel like this tablet has major design/QC issues but you are in a forum and we all know how forums go.... CHEERS!

I think you have to bare in mind that most people that purchase any product and have no issues do not report that nor complain about the product. Those people that do have issues will come to this type of forum to either get help from someone with the same issue or minimally to report the issue for others information. I had a TF101 and TF201 prior to my current TF700T. I had zero issues with my TF101 and only the GPS issue with the TF201. With my TF700T I have zero issues. Now with that said let me say my expectation is an occasional crash simply due to the mix of applications I utilize for my daily task load. My Ipad3 does not have these issues but I would not expect it to due to the way that specific product was designed to work. In fact as soon as Jelly Bean is released for my TF700T my Ipad3 will be on the block on eBay. The reason for this is my expectation of greater fluid performance of my TF700Ts browser that would match my experience on my Ipad3.

[Q] Nexus 7 or Samsung Galaxy Tab2 P3110?

Hey XDA!
I wish this month, no later than December 1 (ie 30 November) to buy me a tablet.
The principal went on tablets that are good in terms of quality / price, and I found only two .. which is 7.0 P3110 Samsung Galaxy tab2 and Nexus 7.
For me, a tablet is a portable device that I can play (mostly).
Budget tablets can be inferred from the two mentioned above (about 250 euros).
I took them for quality you can give me. How do I know assume that you know the differences between the two .. now put the question on a specialized website for that! So not only can I say that Nexus 7 has no SD card slot, and Samsung's camera is on back.
I want to make a good choice, both liking much, but I want something that will last in time .. ie I do not have 1-2 years to buy anything just seeing them go to my friend's new phone games, per tablet .. and I do not even support something like this (I say) to have lag!
On Nexus 7 does not believe a experiencing any lag time soon, but do not know what to say about Galaxy tab2.
Therefore I want to know the following from you:
What do you think tablet should I buy?
What say you like it better? What is the best of both screen and you believe not experiencing lag in at least 1-2 years?
Samsung tab2 deserves just because he has slod SD and back room, or go on Nexus 7 because it has quad-core and Tegra 3?
Thanks in advance and excuse my English!
Which tablet??
I would personally go with the Nexus 7 because of stock JB and I just like the design more. I know it lacks things like a SD slot and back camera but I don't take pictures with a tablet anyways. Its totally up to you, but I hear a 32GB model of Nexus7 will be released soon, and its still in a great price point. Im sure you'll be happy with whatever you choose.

I dont' want to make pictures with a tablet, i have an samsung camera
But you don't know when you need them. Possible to have the tablet and you don't have any camera with you..
My question is: while the chipset will last more games market (ie not wake up as my galaxy tab2 not say go GTA 5) and the nexus YES!
Still all to nexus 7 .. but I want a bow and parry from you and ultimately will really test them.
32GB version I do not care, I know you can solve many problems with USB OTG!

[Q] replacing tf700... to what?

hey guys... im a frequent reader (not poster) of the forums and have a simple question. my mom broke my tf700 so i sent it in to squaretrade and the are reimbursing me $499.99 bc they can not fix it (first time using squaretrade and im very happy i insured it through them).
What should i replace it with? i loved the tf700 but i cant see myself spending $400ish on a devices thats a year and a half old.
i was thinking of the kindle fire hdx 8.9 bc that seems like the best bang for your buck at the moment. It has the newest and best hardware out and is getting great reviews. the only problem with the hdx is that the bootloader isnt unlocked and who knows if it will eventually be (i have faith but i dont wanna drop $400 soley on faith). if i get the hdx it is a must that it would have to be on a custom rom as i cant stand the mojito rom amazon uses.
i was also thinking nexus 10 but the same problem as the tf700 comes into play... $400ish for a year old device. it would be a big disapointment to buy it and have the nexus 10.2 come out next month at CES. i understand that tech is always gettin better and ill always be waiting for the next upgrade and yada yada yada but a year old tablet at $400 is a little pushing it. The upside is that the device wouldnt need to be unlocked as it has the best rom on it (stock kitkat).
so pretty much my question is what would you buy if you were on the market for a tablet today???
anyway thanks for your help and thanks for all your past help throughout the 16 months i have had the tf700.
PS- what is you guys opinions on 7" tablets?? i think 10" is where the swet spot is but if you guys can persuade me otherwise.
I'm waiting for the new Nexus 10, it should hopefully be out any day now. No idea on specs or even a date really, but that's what I'm waiting for. I hate the fact that they dont usually have the option of using a memory card with the Nexus range, but I might be able to deal with that if the rest is good. The TF700 has been a huge disapointment, and waiting and praying for a company to release the latest android version is the dealbreaker for me. If I was to buy something now, I would consider the Sony Z, possible the Galaxy Note 10.1, or the TF701.
