[Q] Sideloading - Windows Phone 8x by HTC

Is there a way to sideload apps on the 8x yet? I'm looking to get the Nokia Lumia exclusive ESPN Fantasy Football app. Thanks!

not completely sure considering the not-so-unlocked state of wp8 at the moment. unless we're talking technically
if you had a developer account and side loaded using the sdk. (i think that's possible)

No. Nokia exclusive apps are just that... Nokia exclusive. There may be ways to get around this, but they are not legal, might brick your phone, and certainly not something you should even attempt.

[Q] New WinMo or Android? or Nokia N8

I am speculating over New WinMo or Android for my upcoming Upgrade phone.
Seems like New WinMo have so much goodies like the Zune plus it is a WinMobile!!
I am so used to Win6.5. I do not see why not 7.
But at same time Android is moving so Fast and On pace for new horizon with lovely new gimmicks.
At same time speculating over comparison with Nokia N8. With all its glory plus nice to have HDMI out!
I am on GSM, and usually get an Unlocked Phone or OEM so On an Non-Contract plan.
Please tell me how you think, what is better and worse.

Because it appears to be NOTHING like your WinMobile (not Windows PHONE) 6.5 beast. It will be heavily locked down. Be aware that the ONLY common thing between windows MOBILE and windows PHONE that I can see is that it has "Windows" as the first word of its name, everything else is diferent.
Going to be getting the Nokia N8 for my wife. She is going to be replacing the Nokia E71.
i think you can narrow it down to what you really need of, i think you can choose-
Android : if you had alot of friends to show off your phone
Winmo : if you do bussiness
Nokia : if you dont do bussines
Bb : if you have many bussineses
I vote for WM/WP7 as with them you´ll be able to run Android as well
Not any other OS will allow you to have both (at least for now)

Excuse me but I am dissapointed with android , quite dissapointed actually
It's what this guy said "Android : if you had alot of friends to show off your phone"
You can't customise **** on it, let me start - change the bar colours on your stock android? You can't, now lets make an mp3 ringtone, anyone
Apps like - beer app, carfinder, dog finder, cat finder, fart and boobs app, wikipedia app, partypoker - what do I need these for
I am not trying to make your toy look bad, I am just giving adequate opinion on it.
Because of people like you I got an HTC desire and it is dreadful because of the os. I flashed it 100 times, it killed the sdcard 10 times, the apps are full of sh*t. If you don't hack it they have adds on top of this. It doesn't have a simple file explorer.
Excuse me but I decline to pay 5 quid for a file explorer which should be preloaded
It is a great phone if you are a kid, a woman or a guy who is not so techy. It is a lot nicer than nokia x6, but it's not easily customisable. If you are not content with the provided expirience you need to hack the sh*t out of it to get basic functionality. If you come from LG cookie or something similar, it's just brilliant

Btw, do you know, do I need Data Plan for any Nokia Smartphone on ATT?
Well, I am stuck with ATT cause of my US Arm Forces FAN# gives me 25% off monthly bill. BUT still I hate that Data Plan.
Does the Nokia E71 or Nokia phone trigger the ATT Automated Ass system to Auto add Data Plan? If Nokia phone works on ATT with out Data plan. I would go phone Nokia Phone anytime.
Android is just new to the world, ppl are going fanatic with "woo, I got android phone, come check me out" sigh

How do you know WP7 will allow this?
edit: also, to be clear, WP7 is totaly diferent to WM 6.5. They shouldn't be expressed like that as "similar products", they aren't.

1. BTW, why not the iPhone? IMHO it's the best consumer phone, unless you want to hack it heavily.
2. I don't think the N8 will be any good - the AAS forum members stated it's clearly behind the competition.

[Q] Tons of questions

Hope you guys have patient to answer them.
First, I had an iPhone, an Android and now I have a WP7. I alway have two phones, and just sould my iPhone so I need another one. I was thinking about a Nexus S, but I want to try WebOS.
My questions:
I know HP bought Palm. They didn't released any phone until now, right? Are they working on WebOS update? Will it be released to palms handsets? I don't want to buy a phone today and tomorrow they release a new version to new phones and forget about me.
Apps? There is not Kik, WhatsApp, IM+ or whatever, right? I use a lot Google Talk and Kik to chat, and Facebook. There is any GTalk client? Facebook?
Do you guys recommend it? I know that, 99.99% of times, when you own a gadget, you have a bias for it. Being honest, I love WP7, but is flaw is apps. At least, in my opinion.
And.. which is the best hardware right now?
Unfortunately, Palm didn't sell phones in Brazil, so I have to buy one from USA. There is any unlock way like iPhone or already unlocked phones?
Thank you guys!
All current webOS phones will continue to be supported by HP, with the exception of legacy devices (palm pixi/plus, palm pre/plus, and I believe pre 2 I'm not sure though). As far as apps go, their are some great apps, the typical price is a little more expensive than android apps but not as expensive as blackberry apps. I would recommend getting a veer if you can deal with the size, if not then get a pre 3 (not sure if its out yet, lol, if not then get the pre 2). I have the palm pixi plus for Verizon and I love it, it only cost me $70 plus the touchstone back and charger on amazon.
Sent from my NookColor using XDA Premium App
I know the palm pre/pre plus/pixi will not receive any more updates, but all new phones released by hp will. I am not sure about the pre 2.
If I were you I would wait till the pre 3 is released on at&t and see if you can unlock it. If you can't wait, check out reviews of the at&t hp veer. It is extremely tiny though.
Webos is my favorite operating system to use. I have used webos, android, blackberry and ios.
Google talk is built in to the messaging app on Webos. There are ways to integrate facebook chat as well.
Check out precentral.net
They have answers for everything involving webos. You will definitely get more help there.
Sent from my Fission Droid2 Global
I would wait until Palm releases the Touchpad & the Pre3 - Hopefully, they will then "go global". Don't try buying one from the US! If you must, buy it from the UK - HP UK sells contract-less phones (I bought mine there).
There are many problems owning a Pre2 (as I do) outside the "official" countries. No access to paid apps mainly. Although I don't complain that much - I have what I need from free apps.
There is a version of IM+ available by the way. Facebook app comes standard. No GPS navigation except for Google Maps, but that requires you to be on line all the time while using it.
The operating system is SUPERB. The best I've ever used. Nothing comes close. It's super intuitive and FAST.
The phone itself is really nice to handle. I love the fact that it is smaller than most phones, and the hardware keyboard is wonderful.
One minus for the lack of autofocus in the rear camera, but you wouldn't use your phone for "serious" photography anyway.
Good luck!

The first HP webOS phone was release last month, the Veer. webOS 3.0 is coming and will be on the Veer. WebOS 3.0 won't be on the Pre, Pre+, Pixi, or Pixi+. I don't know about the Pre 2.

There's no Kik or WhatsApp, but there is IM+ in the App Catalogue. Google Talk is built in to the default Messaging app. There is a Facebook app built-in as well, but it doesn't have Facebook chat. You can use Facebook chat with other apps.

I know how you feel, they don't sell them in my country either (Australia). There is definitely ways to unlock them, and I think already unlocked ones too. Before buying one, make sure that you can get a credit card from one of the supported countries. The App Catalogue will only support payment with a credit card from those countries. Read this for full information: http://forums.precentral.net/worldwide-gsm-cdma/268775-official-app-catalog-geo-restrictions.html
and this: http://forums.precentral.net/palm-p...n-about-gsm-umts-frequencies.html#post2578597
Thank you so much.
I'll think about it, cause I really want to try it out. If not now, I'll wait HP here in Brazil. They've said that it will be here soon.
Loved the part about built-in google talk ;D
Thanks!
Both Aim and Google Chat are baked into the stock messaging app for the OS. They have no integration for Facebook chat, but there are some workarounds and it is coming to the touchpad (I would imagine it would come to the pre3 as well).
There isn't a ton in the way of apps on the market, but almost all of the basics are covered. If you want more than what is in the market, you can use preware and keep an eye on the beta feeds.
They do currently sell an unlocked Pre2 if you don't want to wait and see if they will sell an unlocked pre3.
Overall, it is a great OS.
You might have to wait a little to get the unlocked version of the phone. They do that in the States to get you to sign up for a contract on launch.
You can use Agile Messenger is like a All-in-one but sometimes is slow.

Android on my Windows Phone 7?

I just decided to install mango on my windows phone 7, but now i want to know if there is any way to install any android os on it. I used to like it when i got it but i just hate microsoft the have stabbed me in the back so many times with xbox and this phone. I love android cause the app, wp7 just doesnt have any apps or anything.
This will start a flame war undoubtedly like it always does but....
Basically you cannot install Droid on ANY windows phone 7 yet. Period.
As to the apps? What "must have" apps are you missing?
well, wp7 marketplace for one just doesnt have anything, androids has so much more. everything on wp7 cost money. if i could unlock this stupid thing i would be happier. is there anyway to unlock the HTC Trophy from verizon.
Bump... anyone know who to unlock the HTC Trophy from verizon, model (mwp6985) on firmware 7720 mango. I unlocked it before but thats when i had my developer membership which microsoft banned my account for no reason, one of the reasons i want android.

There are tons of free apps on WP7... the way you write this though suggests you are used to piracy.... That being said though to unlock the Trophy you have to downgrade back to a lower version NoDo or lower probably. I am not very familiar with the Verizon phones.
I came from iOS having previously, and to be honest there may be less apps on the WPMarketplace then either store but I have found I don't need hardly any third party apps to make the phone function on par with what I had before.
Bottom line - if you want an Android sell your WP7 and buy one. I sold my iPhone on eBay to get my Omnia 7 and I'm sure you won't have a problem selling the phone.

I believe the Trophy has the same CPU (QSD8250) the HD2 and Nexus one does, that would probably be the best place to start. You may want to double check on the GPU though. That CPU is also very compatible with the QSD8650 (or at least the opposite is true), but I wouldn't worry about that until you get it ready to boot a ROM on. If you have to modify the radio/baseband or bootloader I wouldn't risk mixing them up there.
Have you checked to see if there's any way to trigger download mode on your phone?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_%28system_on_chip%29
The count is less, very less agreed on that but let me know what app you are looking for and I will list it for you. Roll in your requests.
I don't understand why people are always talking about there aren't anny apps for wm7.
The normal apps are there, so whats the problem.
Beside that I think WM7 runs better en smoother than android so you going to mango..
What is "WM7?"
It seems this thread was started under the false pretense of a legitimate question, but it has become very apparent, this is another troll situation where nothing productive to add or question to ask, but to start bs. When asked what specific the "must have" apps are they missing, they cannot answer. such typical crap...
If you really felt such hate towards microsoft and you have been "stabbed" as you say by them, why did you go out and purchase a wp7 phone? Why dont you just sell it and get your pos and stick with it? No one forced you to, did they?
I'm not stabbed but to be honest, I miss some things like all of us does. If I buy a smartphone, I don't want to be limited on sharing just online. A "smartphone" should have it all integrated, especially because is a microsoft avantgarde. I want to download clips from net and store it to my phone, install apps third party without the need of pc, visiting web pages with javascript enabled, watching movies online, cuz is microdoft phone and it has a great flash player. We cannot always say just"sell it and buy something else" and pretend that we are super satisfy with our devices, but waiting always for future updates for improvings.
there is a development thread for this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483377
That thread is exclusive for development & tests.

i think there is a big Potential in apps for window phone in future !!
Windows phone is far from limited in terms of apps. If you want live wallpapers and an aesthetic clash, go android. I prefer a visually appealing OS to having a wallpaper that moves. Plus, there's still not an android phone that runs as fluid as a wp7 device. It doesn't matter how many cores they throw at it.
z33dev33l, i was trolling in that google/motorola vs apple thread, and i came across you. in all honesty, i had never considered a windows phone only because i havent seen windows market/push them hard (yet...) and i wasnt sure if they would be around for long. perhaps that's just me being naive, because seeing the decline of companies like RIM does put the ebb/flow of the cellphone business a little more into perspective. and i do believe windows are good phones (mainly from user reviews on various sites.) so, the possibility of windows picking-up market share is more of a reality. what are your thoughts on microsoft's long-term commitment in the cellular arena?
Android is open source. You can play xbox games on your android phone using the ONLIVE app.
You also get custom roms on android everything else windows doesn't
Before wen i was un educated i pursuaded my friend to get a windows phone but then i got a android phone and he was so jealous

Honestly, Microsoft sucks at pushing their products. They are a software company primarily for computers so they're used to the OEMs pushing for them. With companies like Nokia, that's an excellent plan because Nokia is everything a cellular company should be. Unfortunately, the other OEM's are more concerned with marketing the size of your processor over the software.

xbox with onlive is hardly comparable to true XBL integration, wp7 already takes care of what custom roms are meant to achieve without the need for flashing, it runs smoother and lasts much longer on the same battery. I find the part about your education prompting your choice to be largely ironic given your post quality and your friend is fortunate.

Okay let me explain again. Android is open source, so for many, you are able to flash different roms and totally Re_Arrange.
On windows its totally boring, same look all the time.
Second, new android phones have become much faster and battery life has dramatically improved considering all the things you can do on android and all the things people run on their phone.
(Droid razr maxx is an example, 2x the battery life of any windows phone)
My third point is the low amount of apps windows phones have, its such a boring market place with nothing on it, you dont get to experiance the games that android users can
Fourth point, us android users can do virtually anything with our phone, we can run windows xp, we can get a home launcher that is the same as windows 7/ apple or anything else.
Phones like the nokia lumia are such bad value for money because the phone has virtually nothing. It has nothing on android or apple.
People say windows operating system is fast/ well not anymore, us android users are now on dual and quad core so get of your hateraid

I was playing counter strike from my dual core android phone, you cant do that on a windows phone.
I can download all my songs of my phone on android(for free but im not gonna tell u where)
I was playing saints row 3 on onlive and dirt 3 which is a little fun experiance that no other experiance that i can get that windows cant.
I have loads of apps to choose from /windows doesnt.

I find that your argument is flawed somewhat. Android users who frequent these forums tend to stay with Android because they enjoy tinkering with their phones. Something that is simply not possible on WP7. We dont care about XBL integration, we care about custom roms and overclocking...

^ Windows Phone users do flash custom roms. I flashed my hd7 all the time, I had to unlock it and flash it just to change the search provider from Bing.
On Android I use Spark 360 for XBL integration.

great !! android lover !!
I can just agree with z33dev33l . WP is just smoother and the whole system is more fluid even with one core. Yes you cant modify it the way you can do that with android, but I dont think that you need to. I had a Radar before my Nexus S and I regretted swaping it for the Nexus S because on single core android isnt the smoothest. A few days ago I ve switched back to an HD7 and I love it.
I think you wont regret buying one WP7 device, if you like the Metro style. The Lumia 800 is good but maybe after the S2 the screen is smaller a bit.
BTW: you have the opportunity to flash a custom rom for some WP7 devices (eg.:HD7, but not easy like on android) but you dont need to because its good as it is.
You must haven't tried ICS? It pawns Mango in every way except email. Speed and fluidity.

oookaay,
many thanks for the info,
I quess that but I needed confirmation
I think WP8 UI screen will be great an enough for me until I upgrade to a high end HTC WP8 devise
According to what I have been reading, 7.8 seems to be just a UI change so far (more details may come up later). Paul Thurott site says that it is an OTA update that will by bypassing the carriers. This too me indicates that it will go to all post-mango phones.

Yes all existing windows phone device will get windows phone 7.8 according to microsoft.
