[Q] how to get ota back? - Asus Transformer TF700

a few moments ago my tablet showed me the popup with the update to .23
i said cancel, to temporarily uncheck root, i did that, and went to about tablet, checked update, it appeared and i started it,
but then the dead android with red triangle appeared, rebooted, googled what the reason could be
i also faced this issues with the last updates, but tehn i found teh dlpkg file here, but right now there is none...
i have uninstalled some system apps like cmclient (although the update was found...) and other asus apps i dont use,
could that make the problems?
and after installing the dplpkgfile ( .20) which i have downloaded, because of the same issues, i received this update... (but it didnt work...)
can anyone help me to get ota back to work (google wasnt helpful, neither xda...)

Yes. All files that are patched by the OTA update *must* be in their original or already updated condition or the update will fail.
If you want to know which files you need, unpack META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script from the dlpkgfile (it's a normal zip file) and read all the assert lines - they list the required files with the expected SHA1 hashes.

[Q] How can i cancel update download

I accidentally started downloading the 2.3.6 update and o don't even want to update because I want to keep root, anyway to cancel the download?
I am not sure if you have used CWM but i had done a nanodroid back up before i had pressed the update button. So i restored the old back up and now i have no problems with the update.
There's two steps to the update process- download and install. Once it downloads it asks if you want to install. You can say "no" and I think it will prompt you every hour or something. If you want it to stop prompting you to install the update, you will have to be rooted. You can either delete the update file (it's the only .zip file that's located in the /cache directory) or you can freeze the following apps: "2.3.5 updater and upgrader 1.0.0" (thanks unsivil_audio).

[Q] Market updater not in 4.0.4???

Few days after installing 4.0.4 update manually, I had to clear and uninstall the 3.5.15 play store. One day after that, I am still stuck with the 3.4.7 factory version but before u call me simply impatient, I got worried by the fact that in my manage apps --ยป all list, there is no market updater entry any more!!
So am I in some kind of trouble and waiting the market to update in vein or do u all miss this (4.0.4 structural change?) and I just have to wait a bit longer??? Anyone mind to confirm this for a second??
ps: its obvious that I can install the new market manually, but this is not the point...
ps2: Just checked the contents of the 4.0.4 update package compared to the 4.0.3 - indeed there is no market updater.apk and market updater.odex files anymore, just as is in my phone's system/app directory.
Solved!
During the day I had two confirmations that market updater is no longer a system app in 4.0.4, meaning that the update delay is just a matter of time and not a faulty configuration of my nexus. So, topic can be considered solved and even deleted (?) by the mods

TF 300T TW OTA failed

I have a TW rooted version of the TF300T on build Version V10.4.2.9 , Android 4.1.1 . Recently, as i was trying to install whatsapp on tf300, i came across this a forum gizmolord that has a guide to install whatsapp on tablets without 3g sim slot. And i installed the ALL winners mod app.
This All winners mod App screwed up my build prop. (i didnt know what it was till now) and system apps such as supernote, and mylibrary stopped functioning and crashed (cannot even launch) . As i was a total noob, i tried to shift those apps out of system apps and uninstalled, them hoping to redownload the apks and reinstall them, but to no avail. However, it turned out that it was the build prop that was changed by the "All winners mod" app when i used "build prop editor" to view it.
I manage to find supernote.apk and .odex from a stock rom online and managed to reinstall supernote. I rename some of the prop file settings to ASUS/ EeePAD, then rebooted, and supernote worked fine. However, i cannot find a proper working Asusreader.apk and .odex. The one which i have still says it stopped working whenever i launched it. Also, after i managed to rename the prop file, an OTA came. I tried to update, but halfway it failed , showing a dead android. After which, i forced restarted the tf300t and it says update failed. (i already temp unroot my device)
How do i get the OTA back? And i think it might be because i removed the Mylibrary app (asusreader) which is a system app. So how do i get the My library app working again? Because i cannot find My library in a clean stock rom online. Supernote works fine. I need to update to firmware Version V10.4.2.13.
Help is apppreciated.

Remove MOTO G Kitkat Install Notification

I have a rooted and flashed Boost Moto G on Page Plus. Viper did the flash at the beginning of the year and he is telling me it is not a permanent flash but instead an older one.
I am on Kitkat 4.4.2 and a month ago my phone downloaded the 4.4.4 update file. Now every 24 hours I am prompted to install the update and have to continually postpone it. OTA updates are disabled so the phone will not install if I consent. I just want the notification to go away, I am happy with the phone and don't care if I update or not.
I'll take any method that removes the notification and hopefully does not ruin my flash...

I have the solution for you. Download this then go under Google Services Framework and uncheck SystemUpdateService:good:
@nomar116 .... Alternatively you could just use your file manager to navigate to .... /cache .... and delete the 4.4.4 update file.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Unfortunately I pulled up Google Services Framework and it was already unchecked. I waited to make sure the notification would still come back and it did.

I explored to the cache folder and found the following file Blur_Version.173.44.20.falcon_cdma.Verizon.en.US.zip.
This surprised me since I looked that file up and it is a 4.4.2 update file and I thought the phone was trying to update itself to 4.4.4?? The phone is already on 4.4.2...? Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and delete that file and see where that gets me. Thanks for the help

The real solution is:
Go to /system/priv-app , find 3c_ota.apk and delete/move/revoke permissions or change its extension (any of these will work). Then reboot and you'll never get the nagging notification again.

Thank you. I had seen one of your previous posts with this resolution but could not find the file. I changed the extension to 3c_ota.apk.bin , hopefully I'm in the clear!

Cannot install APK files?

I have Android 7.0 on my Note 5. I'm trying to install an older version of Gmail (I have the Unknown Sources thing already turned on) . I have tried downloading the APK files from various sites, but every time I click "install" it always says it can't install the file because it's corrupt.
I've had a few updates since getting the Note (it's been about a year now since I got it from AT&T) and I think one of those updates may be what's causing it to stop installing the APKs. Obviously other changes have been made under the hood, but it has to be the OS because I could install APKs when I first got the phone (back when it had Marshmallow on it).
I've tried wiping the cache and even doing a factory reset and it still won't install the APK file. I've tried several APK files and I keep getting the same response; App not installed. The package appears to be corrupt.
What's really odd is yesterday I was reading an article and it mentioned installing a APK for Google Now integration with Nova Launcher. I thought what the heck and downloaded the APK. It installed without any problems. I got this APK from the same place (APKMirror) I was getting the older APK versions of Gmail. I wonder why this one worked and the Gmail ones didn't?
If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it.
Thanks.
I managed to install an older version of ES File Explorer this morning. I got it from the APKMirror webite. Unfortunately, none of the Gmail APKs will work. Obviously I can still install APK files, so I'm going to have to search around on some other sites and see if I can find a good one for Gmail.
