I have Android 7.0 on my Note 5. I'm trying to install an older version of Gmail (I have the Unknown Sources thing already turned on) . I have tried downloading the APK files from various sites, but every time I click "install" it always says it can't install the file because it's corrupt.
I've had a few updates since getting the Note (it's been about a year now since I got it from AT&T) and I think one of those updates may be what's causing it to stop installing the APKs. Obviously other changes have been made under the hood, but it has to be the OS because I could install APKs when I first got the phone (back when it had Marshmallow on it).
I've tried wiping the cache and even doing a factory reset and it still won't install the APK file. I've tried several APK files and I keep getting the same response; App not installed. The package appears to be corrupt.
What's really odd is yesterday I was reading an article and it mentioned installing a APK for Google Now integration with Nova Launcher. I thought what the heck and downloaded the APK. It installed without any problems. I got this APK from the same place (APKMirror) I was getting the older APK versions of Gmail. I wonder why this one worked and the Gmail ones didn't?
If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it.
Thanks.
I managed to install an older version of ES File Explorer this morning. I got it from the APKMirror webite. Unfortunately, none of the Gmail APKs will work. Obviously I can still install APK files, so I'm going to have to search around on some other sites and see if I can find a good one for Gmail.

So I'm too new to post this to the dev thread, otherwise I'd have posted to the rom post.
I have been trying to install the netflix, netflix_mediaclient_246.apk. Before updating the prime 1.7 I was on the stock 3.2 update, without netflix installed. I updated to Prime1.7 and added the pcb theme (Wicked cool theme BTW)
I've tried a couple of sources, but when I attempt to install the netflix app, it says installing, then goes I get an error, "Application not Installed"
When reviewing the thread, some people referenced downloading netflix from the market, but I don't see it in the market, so I used downloaded copies.
Prime ostensibly already has the netflix patch, but I do need to get the basic software installed. Why would an app not install? I've never seen this type of error before.
Thanks
Have you enabled apps from third-party sources in the settings?
Yes, and I've sideloaded other apps since I went prime.
try using an app installer, and make sure that you don't have a bad version of netflix already installed.
I had done a full nvflash restore before going to honeycomb 3.2 so there is no previous NetFlix Install. I've tried easyInstaller, apk installer and appInstaller from the market all result in the same thing.
I've tried installing the .apk from an SD card mounted in the keyboard, from microSD on the tablet itself, and from the tablets own internal sdcard. All have the same result.
The application starts to install, says installing, then I get the red x with Application Not Installed.
I'm wondering if I should reimage prior to adding prime, try installing netflix and the reinstall prime - but I don't want to have to rebuild my data again
I was having the same issue, but ran the apk from total commander on my micro sd and it installed from there. However I am on rooted stock 3.2.
Total commander seems a cool little app- sadly like everything else. i get Application not Installed.
boo
I'm thinking at this point it's cwm restore, install netflix, re-prime. bah, I'll wait till the weekend, when resyncing touchdown will go much better.
SOLVED:
Grabbed the .apk from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150
Named mediaclient_1. I was trying the 246 apk that I found on a few other threads.
Happy netflixing.
EDIT:
Never mind. After I rebooted the A700, I was able to download them. Strange things happen at times!!!
I am trying to download FireFox from the PlayStore and it says that FireFox is already installed. I cannot find the FireFox app for the life of me. I have searched in APPS, Settings (Downloaded/Running etc.) and it does not show up. I have the same problem with ES File Explorer. To my knowledge I have not previously downloaded them so I don't understand why the store would show them as installed and I cannot find them.
Obviously I would like to either find them and put them on my main screen or delete them and re-download them again.
Thanks for any input.
I figured that since it took me forever to figure out how to install GooglePlay store on the N9009, the dual sim China variant running 4.4.2 KK, and get it working properly I thought it'd be worth sharing with others who might want to do the same.
Things you will need:
Rooted N9009
Odin 3.07 http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1168421
CWM Recovery http://downloadandroidfiles.org/download-n9006-cwm-recovery-6-0-3-70922-fix-adb-tar/
GAPPS I used CM11 GAPPS from cynanogenmods wiki found here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps
ES File Explorer/Root Explorer
You will need to flash a custom recovery through Odin. Run Odin with administrator privileges and click the PDA button. Locate the n9006-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.7(0922)-fix-adb.tar file and click start. Your phone should reboot. You should noticed that we're using the N9006 CWM recovery, which was the only one I could find that'd work with the N9009.
The problem I discovered when trying to flash GAPPS on the N9009 was that the priv-app cache was full and wouldn't allow all of GAPPS to install to /system/priv-app/. This is where I had to use a root explorer and delete a couple of apps from /system/priv-app/ For example, I deleted the Samsung gallery app and a couple other non crucial non-needed Samsung junk. Now you should be able to flash the GAPPS zip from CWM.
This was the best method I found for installing the GooglePlay Store and having it run correctly. I tried to install it manually by copying Google Play Services framework and everything over to the folders myself but kept running into the gapps has quite unexpectedly, google services has crashed, or the play store would just never connect.
maybe you can use the google installer in wandouji market
also need root
you will not trip knox and only need install an apk and let the software to do it.
[RE] maybe you can use the google installer in wandouji market
Well it did need all of the Google Services to run properly and I'm not sure whether Wandouija store would include them all or not. Also I can't really speak/read Chinese and I can't remember if the Wandouija store was on the phone already or not.
I just figured it would be best to flash it as a system app from twrp because there always seems to be less problems that way.
Maybe next time I have to add the play store to my bosses dual sim Chinese phone I'll try it that way.
detailed Instructions please

Hi Sir! Can you please provide a more detailed instructions sir? I seem to have a hard time installing Gapps. Will the n9006 rom compatible with my n9009 running lollipop v5.0? Please help me sir. This problem is already taking me forever to solve.
LINK error, update link please:angel:
This is driving me crazy. I tried updating to Google Play Services 8.1.14 so I can try Android Pay. I can install the apk, and it seems to work fine. However, when I reboot I'm always back to GPS 7.8.99.
I uninstalled Android Wear, Android Pay, etc. I turned on airplane mode, reverted all GPS updates (puts it on 6.x), installed the 8.1.14 apk, and when I reboot.... still on 7.8.99!
Yes, I am using the correct built (-238). I am on stock/rooted/s-off 5.0.1 w/ root turned off in SuperSU. If anyone has any clue whats happening here, let me know!
Okay, so it looks like I solved my own problem. I reenabled root and UNINSTALLED Google Play Services via Titanium, then installed 8.1.14, and it seems to have stuck. I still have no clue why the update was reverting, but... whatever. Hopefully this helps someone in the future if they have the same issue.
Disregard my last, that was not successful. Smart Lock disappeared, and my Trust Agents page was blank with no obvious fix. I did a clean install w/ the latest stock/rooted RUU, and updated straight to services 8.1.14 apk, which worked fine (ncluding smart lock). Until...
Until an 8.1.15 auto-update. Which put me right back into the same revert on reboot loop, except now it would update to 8.1.15 a couple minutes after ever boot, and then revert to 8.1.14 every reboot.
I sorta narrowed down the problem... The 8.1.14 update I installed manually via apk resided at /data/app/com.google.android.gms-1
Every time I rebooted, it created a NEW folder and redownloaded 8.1.15 to to those folders, named com.google.android.gms-2, com.google.android.gms-3, com.google.android.gms-4, etc.
I'm assuming this is exactly what it was doing before i wiped, except 7.8.99 was installed to the com.google.android.gms-1 folder which it always reverts to.
The fix was simple: delete com.google.android.gms-1... rename com.google.android.gms-2 to com.google.android.gms-1. Delete all the extra copies.
If anyone could explain this behaviour, I would love to hear. This seems like a pretty big bug, I'm not sure if it's related to the (stock) rom or a bug with the 8.1.x google play services.
here is your fix

this was a few pages back on this section. You basically need to change the owner of '/data/app' to the system. Post 7 has the adb commands or use root explorer or some other app to change all folder and subs.

:victory: Some times my searching skills aren't up to snuff. I thought my issue was specific to play services, so this didn't come up. This is good to know, and should be added to the RUU thread!

I would agree about adding to ruu thread, however, i cannot enforce that. I know some of the newer ROMS might support that like fluent 6.1 i believe does, and santod latest debloat i have not had any of those issues with those.
No issues here. What I did was let it download gmscore, then I cut and pasted base.apk and lib (from data/app) to system/priv-app/GmsCore (deleting preeviois GmsCore.apk and lib first) and renamed to GmsCore.apk - then reboot.
Id try this.
I just tried to install an apk I downloaded that wasn't available on GPlay, but when I tried to install it via firefox or dropbox, it won't let me. But it a different story when I saved it to the phone and installed from there. Did they change it or is something different?
Yes, I have this issue also. I have use my file manager to install downloaded apps. Started with Android 10.
