I have a rooted and flashed Boost Moto G on Page Plus. Viper did the flash at the beginning of the year and he is telling me it is not a permanent flash but instead an older one.
I am on Kitkat 4.4.2 and a month ago my phone downloaded the 4.4.4 update file. Now every 24 hours I am prompted to install the update and have to continually postpone it. OTA updates are disabled so the phone will not install if I consent. I just want the notification to go away, I am happy with the phone and don't care if I update or not.
I'll take any method that removes the notification and hopefully does not ruin my flash...

I have the solution for you. Download this then go under Google Services Framework and uncheck SystemUpdateService:good:
@nomar116 .... Alternatively you could just use your file manager to navigate to .... /cache .... and delete the 4.4.4 update file.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Unfortunately I pulled up Google Services Framework and it was already unchecked. I waited to make sure the notification would still come back and it did.

I explored to the cache folder and found the following file Blur_Version.173.44.20.falcon_cdma.Verizon.en.US.zip.
This surprised me since I looked that file up and it is a 4.4.2 update file and I thought the phone was trying to update itself to 4.4.4?? The phone is already on 4.4.2...? Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and delete that file and see where that gets me. Thanks for the help

The real solution is:
Go to /system/priv-app , find 3c_ota.apk and delete/move/revoke permissions or change its extension (any of these will work). Then reboot and you'll never get the nagging notification again.

Thank you. I had seen one of your previous posts with this resolution but could not find the file. I changed the extension to 3c_ota.apk.bin , hopefully I'm in the clear!

Hi there everyone,
Here is a solution, confirmed by Google Play Support, and does not require your phone to be rooted for solving this issue.
1. Tap Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
2. Go to "All"
3. Scroll down to "Google Play Store" and tap to select it.
4. Click on 'Force Close'
5. Click on 'Clear Data'
6. Click on 'Uninstall Updates'
7. now it is safe to click on 'continue' when u open the market..so go ahead.
8 Enjoy Installing/Updating your desired apps.

Worst of all, everytime i run it..google is prompting to update it..and i cant bypass that stupid update..dafuq?!! =="
What should I do? aaarrgh!! @[email protected]
I had this problem. I installed the rom and then i restored data with recovery from an other rom. After that a couldnt install some programs. And i solved it with this. I installed the rom and then i installed titanium and i did the recovery with it. Then all was ok.

Now i only realized that google play will update itself. Sorry for this stupid statement but honestly say Play Store never start update by itself, never prompt me also in my phone...(Don't know what happen ><) and i every time update it using apk file downloaded from another website. Sorry can't help you on this
Would it because of my phone bloatware free and using broodkernel?

As we are not the only one who facing this strange problem so in my opinion i still think that the main issue came from the Play itself. Correct me if i'm wrong because i'm not expert in android. However, flashing a new rom might be a good try and hope that it solved the problem. Good Luck !
I do not have a custom rom on my phone, but i did have the same problems. Everytime i tried to update something i get error 403. Some ppl said turn off wifi go tot 3G and try again..

This didn't work too..i flashed rom from another region..then google prompted me to update (as usual)..and after the update, *poof* same nonsense got repeated.."stuck at download" *pfft*
@mrjraider, my mobile data works fine..but for google play, its the same case.
There is definitely something going on..i sent a complaint to Google Play Support for feedback/solutions. I searched, and it seems to be a common problem in there FAQ. lmao

why not you try find out some way to make it stop auto update like my phone
***i don't know what i have set...even i always flash my phone but still doesn't prompt me for update...so might link to the google account setting
I also tried this recently as suggested by many over the internet.
Open file explorer (need to be rooted), go to:
System> Framework> rename 'framework-res.apk' to 'framework-res.apk.bak' wait for a few FC's then rename it back to 'framework-res.apk'.
This will enable you to re-enter a google account into the system. Some say this worked, but for me it hasn't. Maybe this could work for you too..who knows. (sigh)
Anyways, I just re-flashed the whole rom again..lets hope it works now.
Edit: this is so ridiculous, google taking ages to reply. I did everything i could, even re-flashed the rom..and still nothin..dafuq?!! *sigh*
Ok, peepz..i found a temporary workaround for this problem..and it WORKS!! I hope that Google gets a fix for this nonsense..and FAST!! x(
Here is what I did:
1- go to app manager from settings,
2- uninstall the latest version of google play store
3- clear data and cache of google play store
4- install version Google Play Store v3.5.19
5- when you open the market, google will still prompt you to update to the latest version (dont continue, leave it as it is)
6- if you want to update/install the apps do it thru the browser in your phone/computer (it will straight away update in your phone)
Cheers!! ^_^
ok guys i also have send a complain to google, but when you send it they says they work from 8am to 6pm on those complains so we have to wait a little.
For now i have solved the problem by freezing MarketUpdate.apk via titanium backup pro. i think that probably a new update of google play will solve this, so any now and then i will de-frost google play and check!
ok now after a while it just started update by himslf.
in the meanwhile google support team answered me sayng that the problem is that my phone is rooted. so to unroot and do a hard reset! i ansqered that they are just crazy and that i found on an italian forum a person with everything stock and not rooted with the same problem so to do not bull**** me. also if i told them so in realy good manners
then i found another way t stop this and again, for now it is working. with es filemanager i have changed privilege of vending.apk from rw--rw--rw- to r--r--r--
for now it seems like not updating anymore!
what the hell is goin on with this damn google play?!?!? i have managed to preventi it from update yesteray until now, now i opened market to check a thing and it was updated!!! Someone managed to solve this????
EDIT

I seriously do not think that the problem is related to being rooted or using custom roms..dafuq?!!
So far, my workaround is working well..the only part which i dont like is everytime i have to install/update..i have be connected to the WiFi/data, and update/install manually from the browser in the device/computer.
Now google play website enables updating from the site itself (via "My Android Apps")..so its kinda convenient..but still suck!! xp
Still, am not satisfied with google's services..till now they havent replied any solution for the problem.
This works for me:
1º Install "Root Explorer" (you can use Blackmart or other alternative market)
2º Disable wifi and data
3º Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/Google Play: Unistall Updates
4º With Root Explorer: System/App/MarketUpdater.apk: change permissions to ONLY READ
It would work
EDIT: Sorry, it only work 5 minutes.
a few moments ago my tablet showed me the popup with the update to .23
i said cancel, to temporarily uncheck root, i did that, and went to about tablet, checked update, it appeared and i started it,
but then the dead android with red triangle appeared, rebooted, googled what the reason could be
i also faced this issues with the last updates, but tehn i found teh dlpkg file here, but right now there is none...
i have uninstalled some system apps like cmclient (although the update was found...) and other asus apps i dont use,
could that make the problems?
and after installing the dplpkgfile ( .20) which i have downloaded, because of the same issues, i received this update... (but it didnt work...)
can anyone help me to get ota back to work (google wasnt helpful, neither xda...)

Yes. All files that are patched by the OTA update *must* be in their original or already updated condition or the update will fail.
If you want to know which files you need, unpack META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script from the dlpkgfile (it's a normal zip file) and read all the assert lines - they list the required files with the expected SHA1 hashes.
I guess it is official. 4.4.4 is now available OTA and it wants to take over my XT1045. I want nothing to do with 4.4.4, at least not right now. However, it keeps nagging me to update and does not give me the option to option out. I downloaded the file just to get it to shut up but that did not work. So I think I found the file and deleted it. However, the annoying message keeps popping up.
I searched and found several files to look for on my phone but I do not have them. I have no clue where the messages are coming from, or, how to STOP the OTA.
So I come to the community for assistance. What is driving the OTA and how can I terminate the auto OTA? Any assistance would be grateful. I am rooted, have ES File Explorer and NoBloat.
Go to /system/priv-app/ and find MotorolaOTA.apk and its odex and move/delete them.Or you can revoke all its permissions and that will render it useless.
Reboot and you're done with it.
If you don't have that app for some reason, look for 3c_OTA.apk

Wonderful.

you can't install apps that have been signed by a different developer, and replace with the current one. metaphor, you have a girlfriend, but your trying to get another girl who looks, and smells like your current girl, but her name is different. Since your in a beta OS, you can definitely expect bugs.
have you tried Factory data reset? there may be residual files from previous OS.

If you have secure boot on disable it, restart your phone, try Again. Worked for me couple times
It's a vice versa situation. If your secure boot is on then disable it else vice versa. And reboot your phone and then install the app. It will surely install. Its not like you've a girlfriend situation?

I use ESFile Explorer to copy the new APK into the folder where the old APK is located - firstly delete the old app then replace with the new app (ensure the same name is used). Some apps are hard to find so I use BKDisabler to find the exact path of the APK I want to replace.
It worked for me as I replace the Device Maintenance App on my S8+ with a newer version off APKMirror
If still having issues, the method below may work too:
TAKE A BACKUP FIRST IN CASE IT GOES TITSUP
Download AromaFM here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108&page=2 ((its a file manager that doesnt install on the phone, just runs in recovery)
Download the APK to are trying to update and put it either on an sd card or in the download folder on your phone: You will need to know where the current APK is located on your phone (usually apps are located in /data/app or /system/priv-app/ or system/app/ before going to the next step...... so for this example the APK is located in /system/priv-app/camera)
Reboot into TWRP Recovery
Install AromaFM
Go to your downloaded APK and either cut or copy it
Then navigate to the /system/priv-app/camera folder and delete the old APK then paste the new APK
Reboot
Now you should have the updated APK installed
Guys, what are you trying to solve here, he didn't even state which apk he is trying to install....
I rooted this device (model XT2131-1 TMO) while it was still on the android 11 using magisk method (currently on v25.2) and it runs fine honestly but when playing games every time the system update window appears it will completely boot me out of said game. I always selected not now( as I know updates break root if you just update) but I wanted to try and just update it and work on rooting that version after but then I receive "Package Verification Failed" notice and nothing happens. After so many attempts of selecting "not now" it will completely stop for a few weeks then start popping up again. So far this is absolutely the only issue I have ATM. More an annoyance really. Is there a way to completely disable that system update notification from appearing entirely or where should I look to restore, update, and then reboot on Android 12? I'd prefer just get rid of the update popup as everything else works fine. I'd appreciate any help thank you.
I also just remembered I've asked this in another thread but in this one im asking more about preferably disabling the system update notification entirely which will fix my main issue of it.

Solution: flash current stock kernel and run update again. You can grab updated stock kernel from RSA and patch and regain root

You can't delete it but you can certainly freeze it find an app like SD maid on Google Play you can freeze all the update apps and associated dll files there's about six or seven of them
I've still got an older pro version of that actually. Ty I'll look into that.
I'm seeing two under sdmaid. Both say frozen already. Which one is the actual android system update app pls?

Yes but there is android system update and then Motorola system update. I've disabled/froze(yes using sd maid and other root accessed app managers separately so as not to mess up anything else) both and their services/triggers (anything linked to ether) each at a time for a couple days and both at the same time and still appears constantly. Only thing I can think of is to completely reset to full stock,go to 12 and reboot ....

Look for an app called preference manager on Google Play.
Of course it'll require root.
Select each individual app it'll take you to the XML file it creates.
Look for all the timer entries and change them to zero basically make a mess out of it if you will.
As long as you've disabled all the receivers that should stop the app from Auto Wake
