As you may know 4G means LTE in australia. Can any Telstra users confirm if they are receiving the HTC one xl updates?
Nice find! Hopefully some Aussie users can give the stuff to devs and we can get rolling!

The only bad thing about Jelly Bean is you are going to be forced to update your HBOOT in order to run it. I'm just hoping useful source comes out of it as I won't run it for that reason. I like flashing my kernels from recovery.

Are you on AT&T? are you on 2.20? If yes to both, or you are in Australia despite your profile location, you can download the OTA but not flash it. You can copy the OTA package off your phone and upload it for devs.

It's my understanding that AT&T doesn't update their older phones. I know I hadn't received an update on mine since the day I got it. That was last August sometime.

Your gonna have to manually update via the RUU posted on HTC.com. Keep in mind that manually updating will wipe the phone. Here's the link:

It is the second from the top. Just follow the directions on that page for applying the update.

Be aware that there were some problems with the official GB update, like the stock messaging app not recognizing known contacts. That's one of the reasons why there's such a large number of rooted Inspires.
I had the contacts issue with my inspire and finally just rooted. Now with a new Rom it works great.

I was aware because it happened with mine. That's why I started using Go SMS Pro, since rooting and flashing the ROM I have no issues. I think I'm just going to wait until they get tired of their farm game and just root it and flash a ROM to their phones as well. A lot of people I heard from before I found this site said the GB update caused a lot of issues with the Inspire.
It seems AT&T is pushing out an OTA version 2.20 that is rumored to close all the loopholes we've used to unlock and root the One X.
If you have NOT rooted and unlocked your bootloader and you want to do so don't accept the update.
Wait until someone has gotten a hold of this version and picked it apart before installing it.
Keep Calm and Carry On.

Even if you are rooted and unlocked BL, don't accept the OTA, unless you are brave and feel like being the guinea pig (I guess somebody has to be). The install may not work, or it may wipe out root, and the existing root methods may have been plugged up. OTA Rootkeeper might work. It did for the last OTA, but there is no guarantee that it will work this time. Somebody will probably post this as a recovery flashable zip in pre-rooted form. So be patient, unless you feel like experimenting, and living with the consequences.
Thanks for the public service announcement, as I'm sure people will start asking whether its safe to install the OTA.
I figured people who rooted would know this but thank you for adding it.

Or how many people unroot just so they can get an OTA that will provide very little added performance if any. People are sooooo quick to accept OTAs when they have no clue what they are for. I can understand wanting to accept an OTA for a major OS update like ICS to JB (ok that was a lie, I still have no clue why people would rather accept an OTA than just flash a rooted ROM) but to give up root for a simple MR is just asinine.

If I'm not mistaken, the exploit uses the AT&T update server to trick the phone into download mode, so I don't think this could work.
Here is the link to the OTA update.zip from the 4.0.4 AT&T update:
http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~willi348...2.7-1.85.502.3_R2_releasenin45grzkfswb95v.zip
A few caveats:
1) This is for devs only. I have no idea how to manually use this to update. If anybody knows how, shoot me a pm and lmk.
2) This includes a few firmware updates. Among them is an update to HBOOT that adds write protection to the boot.img partition (and possibly others). What this means is that with this new HBOOT, we cannot flash the boot.img from recovery anymore, even with an unlocked bootloader. We can still flash it from fastboot though. Keep this in mind as we may not be able to revert back to an older HBOOT, at least currently.
Excellent.

root was achieved on 1.85
i found this post first but the one-click roots never worked for me, though some 'acted' like they were successful. i ended up having to do it the manual way here.
note that on the first post it notes that "ATT COULD SHUTDOWN THE UPDATE SERVERS AND KILL THIS"
i'm not smart enough to confirm, but supposedly it's because this exploit requires an update check on the phone and uses a file from that check. I've also read that the 2.20 update has killed the exploit
i've seen at least one report here where someone tried the 1.85 exploit after 2.20 came out and they were still able to root. maybe if you act fast enough you might get lucky

Something does not seem right. If he is rooted then he should not be getting notifications about OTA downloads, and should almost certainly not be able to download it until he RUUs back to a bone stock version. At least this is how AT&T treats its customers.
if this OTA is real I am hoping that it includes a bug fix for those of us affected by the Nav bug. I have downgraded back to ICS and given up on JB until my contract runs out or a fix is out, whichever comes first.
Thanks for the help. I will do that in the morning. Which website should I put the file link? I'm a first timer but I would like to help.

841 is Telstra not Telus.
Telstra have not announced that they are currently releasing this update.
You should be able to find the file in your downloads folder on the phone. All we need is the exact name of the file. We dont actually need you to upload the file anywhere so long as you can give us the exact name.
eg:
OTA_EVITA_UL_JB_45_S_Telstra_WWE_3.17.841.9_0.23a.32.09.29_10.128.32.34a_release_2997538hizl4svcm80o4g1.zip
The end bit will be different and needs to be exact.
PS. 100mb is not massive. A full ROM is about 700mb. Also what made you think this was a Telus update? Do you have a Telus phone, your signature gives the impression you have an AT&T phone.
What ROM are you running, stock, Viper?
100 megs is pretty big for a ota update imho ... i read the htc one x+ got a fairly large update as well

Yup, the 2 One X+ updates (AT&T and Telus) were between 50 and 60 MBs and most files are patched so the changes in the updates are mostly deltas so 100 MBs is quite the substantial update, although the build version didn't increase by much.
The updates to JB were full roms because the deltas would have been almost the same size.

For those that are interested this update updates firmware for radio, dsp and the secure bootloader.
It also has a bunch of patch files for the system. I havent looked at the patch files as they are extremely tedious and boring to check. It updates numerous libs and apps likely to current versions. Any better description would need to come from HTC and/or Telstra."
