Here is the link to the OTA update.zip from the 4.0.4 AT&T update:
http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~willi348...2.7-1.85.502.3_R2_releasenin45grzkfswb95v.zip
A few caveats:
1) This is for devs only. I have no idea how to manually use this to update. If anybody knows how, shoot me a pm and lmk.
2) This includes a few firmware updates. Among them is an update to HBOOT that adds write protection to the boot.img partition (and possibly others). What this means is that with this new HBOOT, we cannot flash the boot.img from recovery anymore, even with an unlocked bootloader. We can still flash it from fastboot though. Keep this in mind as we may not be able to revert back to an older HBOOT, at least currently.
Excellent.

No but I hope it gets root soon. I had 1.85 and was unable to root it hopefully 2.20 works for me. On a side note the

Honestly, I have no idea how one would manually go about using this to update. I mainly posted it for the devs to get their hands on. If anybody knows how to manually use it to update, shoot me a PM and i'll update the OP.
Also, dropbox shut off my sharing for a couple days. I'll upload it somewhere else and repost a new link in a bit.

root was achieved on 1.85
i found this post first but the one-click roots never worked for me, though some 'acted' like they were successful. i ended up having to do it the manual way here.
note that on the first post it notes that "ATT COULD SHUTDOWN THE UPDATE SERVERS AND KILL THIS"
i'm not smart enough to confirm, but supposedly it's because this exploit requires an update check on the phone and uses a file from that check. I've also read that the 2.20 update has killed the exploit
i've seen at least one report here where someone tried the 1.85 exploit after 2.20 came out and they were still able to root. maybe if you act fast enough you might get lucky

It seems AT&T is pushing out an OTA version 2.20 that is rumored to close all the loopholes we've used to unlock and root the One X.
If you have NOT rooted and unlocked your bootloader and you want to do so don't accept the update.
Wait until someone has gotten a hold of this version and picked it apart before installing it.
Keep Calm and Carry On.

Even if you are rooted and unlocked BL, don't accept the OTA, unless you are brave and feel like being the guinea pig (I guess somebody has to be). The install may not work, or it may wipe out root, and the existing root methods may have been plugged up. OTA Rootkeeper might work. It did for the last OTA, but there is no guarantee that it will work this time. Somebody will probably post this as a recovery flashable zip in pre-rooted form. So be patient, unless you feel like experimenting, and living with the consequences.
Thanks for the public service announcement, as I'm sure people will start asking whether its safe to install the OTA.
I figured people who rooted would know this but thank you for adding it.

Or how many people unroot just so they can get an OTA that will provide very little added performance if any. People are sooooo quick to accept OTAs when they have no clue what they are for. I can understand wanting to accept an OTA for a major OS update like ICS to JB (ok that was a lie, I still have no clue why people would rather accept an OTA than just flash a rooted ROM) but to give up root for a simple MR is just asinine.

If I'm not mistaken, the exploit uses the AT&T update server to trick the phone into download mode, so I don't think this could work.
Nothing too earth shattering if you read the official statement from Verizon, but may have a fix for those with SIM troubles.

I wouldn't do it if I were you. Not while rooted....Can brick your phone I heard.
Do not update if u are rooted.
Well if you can't update while rooted, what are you supposed to do if it auto updates? I was just sitting in bed and noticed that my notification went off on my phone and not on my tablet (meaning not email). I checked the phone and if I hadn't noticed it would have auto updated and I am rooted on stock. It said the update would start in 3 minutes after I heard the notification. I deferred until tomorrow and have my phone how I want it, so I really don't want to go back to stock. I suppose I could make a nandroid.
It really scares me though that Verizon almost pushed an update that could have potentially bricked my phone. I don't think that is right, quite honestly.

There is an apk called updater or something like that. Just uninstall or freeze it, and you will never get the OTA update notifications again. This has been discussed before in multiple other threads, so do a search for the full details.
Grab Voodoo OTA rootkeeper from the play store and back up your root just in case if you are running the stock Rom. The JB update has broken root on many devices and will be coming soon for ATT One X. Voodoo has been able to restore it after JB.

Hey all,
Now that I have my phone rooted and unlocked, is it ok if I accept and install the latest OTA update? Is there any additional steps I need to take before or after?
use voodoo from the market to protect root and temp unroot while updating. also you have to be stock, with all the bloat apps installed and not frozen, or the update will fail.
ultimately the update will likely fail at the end anyways, but as long as it updates the baseband, that's all you really want out of it anyways.
Ok thanks. I will give it a try. Sounds like it will probably fail. LoL

matts utility reverts to before the update (including the baseband), so there is really no danger as long as you are already unlocked.
