[ROM] [FOUND] MIUI ported ROM for Lenovo A789 - Miscellaneous Android Development

Hi folks,
Just a couple of days ago I found a working MIUI ported ROM for our A789. Seems that was ported from ZTE V970 or something. I decided flash it. First boot comes in chinese, but I could find the config page to shift language. Surprisingly, there's english and many others, including portuguese (I'm brazilian). The configuration pages remain in english, but others were translated.
Very nice ROM, beautiful, with many themes (It's miui). Until now, no bugs, lags. One intersting thing: the ROM merge DATA and internal USB, ending all saving and usage issues [no. It just disables internal USB... bad...]. Battery drain seems ok. So, I think we can have a lot of fun with it!
Some screenshots attached.
Cheers!
EDIT: NEW version (v4 - 130205) released! Get it here.

Nice.
Its customary though to make phone numbers unreadable in the screenshots. I agree no one in his right mind would now start calling them, but with a few million readers on XDA, there may be a few who are not in their right minds
Also, can you tell me if this has the option to swap 3G to either SIM?

Hummm... I never realize that... Screenshot removed, just in case.
I don't get your question... Are you talking about GSM/3G shift in 1st SIM?
In settings>mobile networks>3G service there's 2 options, "enable 3G" (in that I can switch between SIM1, SIM2 or disabled) and "network mode" (GSM/WCDMA auto mode and wcdma only). As far I known, SIM2 accepts only GSM....

If you can "Enable 3G" with a choice of SIM2, then obviously SIM2 does not only accept GSM.
Strictly speaking, SIM is separate from Radio. The MT657x have 2 serial ports to read SIM's. And it has a GSM and a GSM/3G radio. There is no rule that claims the OS cannot feed the data from the 2nd SIM into the 1st 3G radio, but it does mean SIM1 then must go into the GSM-only radio.
Its a OS feature that the Mediatek template OS had for a while, but Lenovo seem to have chosen to not copy that possibility from the template.
And I think is a very useful feature. I think I will suggest this ROM to my friend, who has a A789.

This is intersting! I just assumed that SIM2 was GSM only because of that label from lenovo. I'll try this. Thank you!
One last thing: there's only one signal bar indicator, despite of fact I have 2 SIMs.

Is this ok for P700i?

No, the P700i has a differed LCD screen driver, the kernel and kernel modules needs to be swapped. I'll see if I can do that for you, but no guarantees.
In the mean time: Direct download for the A789 from baidu

Alissoncg, "valeu meu irmão"
But i have some doubts:
1) By the look of the screen shots, i see only one network signal icon on top... are these screenshots from the web or from your phone? is that configurable or is it the fact that the rom wasn't "worked on" enough to give the rest of the info?
2) Are the default apps in chinese or english? ( calendar, etc )
3) is this rooted?
4) What are the default apps in the rom? (super su, systemapp remover, mobileuncletools, etc ?! )

Hi spinal2k "não há de quê"
1. Yes, it's my phone. I don't have any idea why it shows only one net signal. By the way, the two SIMs are working.
2. Some apps are only chinese, but are crapware, so I removed with rootexplorer. All others, the important ones, are multilanguage or english.
3. Yes, rooted but no Play Store, only sync with google account. I just flashed it.
4. Humm, let's see... reebooter, fmradio (no transmitter), file explorer (nice app!), root explorer, LBESEC by miui (like original lenovoSEC), miui compass (useless), miui gallery, miui videoplayer, music, sound recorder (nice, emulates a cassete player). All others I installed after flashing ROM.

you could try to install PlayStore by installing Google GMS. Usually if Play store is not installed, neither is network locations, so look into that too from the same post.
What I wanted to ask though: You say DATA and USB storage is merged? I was analyzing the installer (to see if I could make a P700i/A660 port), and I find no hints whatsoever that it re-partitions the memory. It just installs boot & system as usual. Please explain a bit more.

is it just me or the multitasking button switches off screen instead of showing the running apps?

Hum... I don't know what network locations does, but I simply flashed google apps from goo.im and everything is working.

It's my english... forgive me!
Well, after my fist posting here I looked in settings>storage. Actually, there is no more USB internal storage. I don't know what happened, but I don't have access to it (if exists now... maybe was erased?). I assumed that "data" and "usb storage" was merged resulting in a 2.5GB DATA, but I have only 792MB. And no USB Storage, only SD card. When connected to PC in storage mode, there is 2 storage devices detected, 1st is CD card and 2nd it's no mounted.
Please let me know if you want I test something to you.

Yes, it's a annoying thing. But we have a excellent app/function to swith beteen apps, just long press home button. Not only a switcher, but a memory cleaner.

tbh, i like this rom because off the costumization but i'm going back to cybermaus rom....
this one has loads of bug, i hate the root app that comes in stock!!!!
sometimes i get java errors ( after removing some of the "crapware" )

Here I installed SuperSU to bypass the stock one, and until now, no errors.

Things i liked in this rom:
1) customize every single piece of the UI ( themes, statusbar, more status bar information such as network speed, settings menus, new widget interactions )
2) i tried several themes, all beautiful and very interactive.
3) sms app no longer prompts for network, just click the send button of the network you want to use
4) loads of languages if you find the menu to change the language ( go to settings, click line with keyboard icon, and click first option )
5) some new options in the notification center which i like ( paging, add or remove toggles, etc )
6) <removed>
7) i love the messages in the lockscreen when you have emails, missing calls, unread sms, etc.
8) unlock screen with 4 options instead of two ( besides camera and unlock we have sms and another one i don't remember )
9) i like this main theme more than i like the original Lenovo theme ( i don't like the default dark and red UI and the default font of the default dialer on the original rom )
Things i found confusing in this rom:
1) one signal bar only, even though both networks are working fine but i like the information on both networks. I live in a very "network unstable" environment.
2) app drawer gone (too many apps is a mess, imo)
3) lots of java errors after removing some of the Chinese apps. Had to reinstall rom and wipe device several times to try and detect which was the app causing all those errors after removal.
4) the stock SU app is problematic (executing a "root needed" app asks for permissions, i allow it and then the app hangs... need to go to app to manually allow again and re-execute the app) and changing to the superSu one not so easy ( after 4 wipes i finnaly did it with out errors )
5) if there is more than one icon/network carrier in the upper LEFT corner, 3 dots appear instead. Don't know what's actually running or not.
6) LBE half chinese half english and if i remove it and install the full chinese one, loads of java errors.
7) Fourth button on the phone ( multitask access button ) does the same as the power button when phone is with screen on ( black screen and locks ). Pressing home button more than 2 or 3 seconds brings up the multitasking menu ( swipe up to remove from memory ).
8) USB Internal storage just dessapeared... "/mnt/sdcard/" is the only one that exists (on cybermays rom, at least on my device, /mnt/sdcard2/ is the sdcard partition and /mnt/sdcard/ is the usb internal partition) and is the sdcard one... you don't get the message "Preparing External Storage" at boot time, widgets work properly from sdcard.
---
There are probably more things i liked and disliked about this rom, i'm already on cybermaus rom. If i remember i'll say it later.
If you go to the "about this phone", you see that this ROM is marked as BETA1....I'll be checking the updates on this one because there are definitely things I liked in this ROM.

Strange... As I said, I really don't got any errors! I simply remove all chinese-only apps and everything is ok. In fact, all another problems you pointed really exists, but for me it's acceptable, because the whole ROM is simply beautiful... But it's a beta, so we could expect improvements.
If I understand the china guys (with a little help from google translate ) there is a kind of schedule to do things like this port from ZTE to our A789. There is another phones being ported too, so seems there will be hope for us...

I just discovered that USB internal storage wasn't erased or something else. Apparently it's just not mounted. Because of my "recovery battle", after flash cybermaus one, I looked in recovery and I could see USB internal storage there.

THANKS ALOT for this, been looking to update my aged, and slow, yet my favorite phone which is still my main one.
I have couple of questions,
1) I see from the russian site u linked there is a WM 6.1 EN rom for it, what build is it, older than this rose_rom's 20757?
2)Which one is faster, this or WM 6.1 EN? (i am interested in speed rather than the 6.1 homescreens or overbloated dial skins)
3)i downloaded few days ago from a chinese site a file called otto wm6.1ru.abi. is it more or less the same? the translation on that page says they got it from 4pda. also from the screenshots of that site, radio ROM wasnt included, does this or WM 6.1 EN has a radio ROM?
3)What is the writing system on this rose_rom and WM 6.1 EN is it the bit annoying xT9/eT9 like all the 6.1 ROMs out there, or the amazing Palm dropdown autocomplete IME as in the original 6.0?
4)For speed and keeping the same features as the origial 6.0, which one do u recommend?
5)As i understood from chinese to english google translation from that site, to flash this, i need to format an SD card with Fat32, put the .abi file in it, enter bootloader(pressing down+on) and it will autoflash, is this correct?
6)What languages it comes with?
Again Thank you very much for this and your time, and I hope i didnt annoy you with my questions. Althoug i have many HTC Smartphones, this phone is my favorite and the only one i actually use from day to day with my custom mods on it. so i cant just try and flash stuffon without getting info about it.
Thanks.
1.And here and there, Microsoft's emulator v.6.1.4
2.my_rose-Page Pool Size=8Mb.
6.1EN(China)-Page Pool Size=4Mb
3.Отто wm6.1ru.abi=6.1EN(China),included 4pda bootlogo.my_rose included orginal Palm bootlogo
Radio ROM is not included in my_rose.abi.On from Russian WM6(off.)
4.System of writing the standard for Russia, includes English, Russian and Ukrainian input
5.my_rose is quite fast, IMHO does not require additional action to increase the speed
6.Yes, I used Transcend microSD 2Gb/fat32.Ne use SDHS.
7.Only the English, as well as in Microsoft's emulator
Sorry for my English, Google translator

Thank you for your quick answers, its ok i figured its google translator but you give me all the info i need, as long as its faster, has english, and u flash it with fat32 microsSD, it is what i am looking for.
Also i registered last night with 4pda.ru to check the WM 6.1 EN it also turned out to be same build, 20757. (took me 1 hour to register trying to figure out how the security code work, i kept copying/pasting russian characters, it turned out to be XX+XX=)
I decided to go with this Rose ROM, hopefully i will try it this weekend.
Thanks again.

Any luck trying? I'm so tempted to try too, but the only thing holding me back right now is the fact that I can't go back to the original ROM if anything goes wrong.
Or is there a way to revert if you prefer the original palm WM version?
Thanks to caramba_sda, I almost gave up hope on seeing a new WM version on my palm.

IntrudersMissedCallsSmsFix-The substitution of adopted SMS missed calls on the name of the notebook (contact).
tgetfile-system library necessary for certain programs such as Notepad
OK I FLASHED THIS. 1ST IMPRESSION IS EXCELLENT, THE PHONE IS MUCH, AND I MEAN MUCH FASTER THAN STOCK ROM AND LOOKING GOOD. STANDBY AS I USE IT NORMALLY THROUGHOUT THE DAY WITH CALLS, EXCHANGE PUSH AND (FINALLY) SMS-CHAT AND I WILL POST MORE CONCLUSIONS.
Boots in an ONE INSTANT, instead of ONE HOUR, and everything is so responsive, also windows folder is quite small and opens quickly.
Finally the LAG on the stock 6.0 is gone. I removed the clock on top and the battery meter, dont like those. Also i need to install Office and Windows Live and bring back my looks then it will be perfect.
Again Thank you very much caramba for your hard work and reviving that phone again.
EDIT - UPDATE ON STATUS
Activesync/Exchange Push, Emails, Contacts and Calendars works flawlessly and perfect. Still as fast as the 1st boot with all my mails and contacts in it. As well as Text Messaging also perfect. The best part is that the original autocomplete has remained and not replaced by that xT9.
However there are 3 issues now, only the 1st is critical with me.
1) the keyboard map is russian, the normal chars are proper english, all the alternalte chars are in russian (when pressing UPARROW) for example i cant get the upper symbols on the keyboard like ? , ' ; $ " @ / i get instead this Ю Б Э Ж Х Ъ this is very important. although in the registry it is 409 the keyboard layout, and the keyboard mapping/driver is pxa27x_keypad_Us.dll.
UPDATE ON THIS ISSUE(FIXED): Checked every where all the registry entries are correct, i tried replacing the pxa27x_keypad_Us.dll with the stock 6.0 one, keyboard froze and didnt work. Edit: Fixed with new release.
2) IE 6 .... I wish u didnt put that horrible browser in and stayed with IE 5, it is slow, the mouse cursor to move takes time and it corrupts the screen where it moves. anyway to revert to IE5 without flashing back.
UPDATE ON THIS ISSUE(FIXED): Found a registry work around, HKLM\Security\Internet Explorer\MSHTML from 1 to 0. I included a CAB for this. Will downgrade to IE5.
3) The font is a bit jagged, or not as smooth as before, specially bold, either it has been edited/replaced or Cleartype not working proper. I will try to replace Segoe with the latest one i have and check later.
UPDATE ON THIS ISSUE(ACCEPT): Tried the stock font, still the same. since it is not a big deal it is ok.
I've downloaded the *.abi file. But how to flash the device ?
copy it to an empty formatted microSD card, put the card in the phone, switch it off, press the down arrow on the the d-pad, while pressing it turn on the phone, it will load in bootloader and autoflash it, u will see red progress bar followed by green bar till its finished, then it will boot super quick.

Thanks.
I've got some problems with flashing it... I formatted the storage card (16gb) to fat32, at least, thats what the tool on my smartphone said, en copied the *.abi file on my storage card. I restarted my phone as instructed en the boot manager starts but doesn't do anything! It's just doing nothing with the palm logo on the background and some red text above it (something about the version or somwhat).
Could someone plz help? My phone is a Treo 500v
btw, here are the 2 files u requested. peter4stra was just asking the first q for me because i didn't had an account here...

thanks for the font. I am not an expert at flashing that palm, it did work with me the 1st time i flashed it. I will start at looking at a more reliable microSD card and smaller size, fat32 on a 16gb will cause corruption, go for a 2GB, good brand.
The font is 4 the russian charactars i guess? Hope it works . you're welcome
Brand of my current is Toshiba. Is it possible to make only one partition on it of 2gb?
I just found a 512MB card. currently i'm backing up the data and then i'll format it and try again. I'll keep u posted.

Not sure about partitioning microSD card, never tried it or heard of it being possible.
No the font is not for russian, if u read my comments on the ROM, i am having slight issue with the font display for some reason on stock it was better, I am not sure if it is the font or some cleartype changes but i will try the stock font and i will see, probably it is the same exact font. it could be just me seeing things
Also this ROM have 1 big issue with keyboard mapping of the alternate characters, ther russian and i am trying to get them to be symbols as my hardware keyboard, but no luck all the settings and drivers are correct.
Apart from that it is super, and I mean super FAST.
UPDATE: The fonts didn't make a diffrence. same. could be settings, i will look through that later. anyways this is nothing to be worried about. also not every day i get emails with big bold green in it. only issue is the symbols.
That did it! Used the 512 MB card and flashed it. It booting like a f1 car, and the look and feel is like: AAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWHHHH!!!!!!!! WAAAAAAA!!!!! really cool xD
Thanks for posting this rom!
I don't really have problems with the symbols.. Just press alt and all the symbols just appear as they should be.

FLASHING Cortex A8 Freescale imx515 - Herotab m802 / Step by Step + screenshoots

Hello,
Sorry for my english, try to be kind with a french geek
I thought it would be great to give to the community a tutorial step by step with pistures and screenshoots
Here is the method i used to open the tablet and flash the ROM when i "bricked" it while trying to activate Google accounts
This ROM is not really an update, i prefer asking it rescue ROM for bricked tablets.
"HOW TO FASH THE TABLET" - TUTORIAL in english :
docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=false&embedded=true &srcid=0B96pdh3MCBWgNDVjMjdiNTMtY2E2YS00ZWYzLThmYj ItN2U0ZmY3N2E0NDFh&authkey=COyCmKsH&hl=en
(copy link in your browser adress bar)
CUSTOM ROM :
docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B96pdh3MCBWgNDJhMTIxNTktNmE3Yi00MjI4LThjN zQtODkzNDc0MzAyZTc3&sort=name&layout=list&num=50
(copy link in your browser adress bar)
Unfortunately, the Android Market has been disabled due to too many issues. But alternativ markets have been installed to make your life easier ;-)
IMAGE FLASHING TOOL - it is still the same, but if you need it :
apad-france.fr/components/com_agora/img/members/268/usbit.zip
(copy link in your browser adress bar)
CHANGES
:
• Remove unneeded or Chinese apps (AppStore + HANDONAPP + Agpsstatus) which unnecessarily polluted the tablet memory.
• Enabling Google accounts
• GMAIL
• GOOGLE TALK
• MAPS: LATITUDE option functional (visibility of your Google contacts on the card)
• Alternative MARKETS: SlideME + APKTOR (very interesting market because of the possibility to add sites apps url to enhance the catalog of applications - for that Google search is my friend)
• Video Player: MPlayer (nicer than the original video app)
:
This is a "beta" version so are not fully functional:
• HARD RESET or restore to the factory datas. I did not yet managed to change the restore file, so if you HARD RESET tablet, you will restore all the craps from original firmware ... sorry ☹ So the only way to restore this custom ROM is to flash the tablet.
• Android Market: i can not keep system stability (I unfortunately am not computer) and the tablet "Brick" systematically. I decided not to install Google Market in this version. This will be the subject of the next version i hope☺
• Reccuring error message "closing framework ..." just click on" force quit ". No impact on the operating system running.
ON THE FIRST BOOT (Google account activation) :
• You see the the welcome message with ANDROID logo and the clicking hand (take the opportunity to change the language if necessary)
• Click the screen 4 corners in the direction of clockwise starting at the top left corner and going to the right
• Select "SetupWizard ..." in the selection list that appears
• You will be able to set up Google accounts - If you do not automatiicly enter Google accounts set up, go back to the desktop and select GMAIL.
• You can now enter your Google Account login (gmail address without extension "gmail.com") + password gmail
(If the wifi is off - back to the office with the small house at the top right of the screen. Go to Settings / WiFi / and select your WiFi network and enter the WEP key if your network it is protected. Once connected, return to the office and launch GMAIL)
Your Google account is activated
• SORFT RESET (paperclip in the small hole beside the plug in iPod) - the tablet reboots by itself
You often closing the message framework, but it's not important, go further by clicking on "force quit"
You can change synchronization settings (menu button) and also in the google accounts settings (phone settings: Account and synchonisation)
Have fun with this ROM !!!
If somebody wants to find the way of xternal miniSD or USB flashing it would be great !!
Thanks for the guide, very useful.
What type of problems are you having getting Market working? Does logcat show anything?
I have also had some issues to get it to run properly, as well as getting the Contact/Calendar sync running. Will try flashing your ROM.

Is that this device that you are operate with ?
I find that, the internal storage of /data really small, event Froyo 2.2 has Apps2SD, still not enough to me to install more apps, but given large 4G SD internal are there, just not making use if it.
Any easy script to relink them so can expand /data ?
thanks
James
Hello
Yes this is the tablet i'm working on
You can change memory allocation puting your system SD card in a miniSD card reader and changing partitions allocations with windows XP system tool (the one you use to change your HDD partitions allocations)
But now you can find a flashing external tool on a sd card sold by "androidtouchpc" website - You don't need my ROM anymore
Best regards
I notice that, during the boot of apad 2.2;
I push middle button + right side of button + power on.
I am getting a text mode selection menu, it has 5~6 selection.
-. reboot system now
-. update update.zip
-. update /system
-. update nandroid
-. update boot.img
-. wipe data
-. wipe cache partition
something like that.... since I am in the office, I need check it again from home to confirm.
In this case, will it be easlier doing update in this way ?
thanks
James

I am curious...
What's the point of opening the Ipad? you did'nt include in your instructions how to flash the ROM
The flashing tool from Androidtouchpc is already available on Slatedroid in the Cortex A8 forum.
It will not work with your download ROM as yours is a disc image and the flashing tool works via an update image.
If you would like PM me and I will try and help you.

Hello,
Sorry for my english, try to be kind with a french geek
I thought it would be great to give to the community a tutorial step by step with pistures and screenshoots
Here is the method i used to open the tablet and flash the ROM when i "bricked" it while trying to activate Google accounts
This ROM is not really an update, i prefer asking it rescue ROM for bricked tablets.
"HOW TO FASH THE TABLET" - TUTORIAL in english :
docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=false&embedded=true &srcid=0B96pdh3MCBWgNDVjMjdiNTMtY2E2YS00ZWYzLThmYj ItN2U0ZmY3N2E0NDFh&authkey=COyCmKsH&hl=en

CUSTOM ROM :

To : Jefflyonfr,
you USB tool not able to resize from image to a larger SD card, 8 or 16GB. Do you know any tool can resize Android partition ?
Shaking problem solution is available here , on slatedroid forum in english :
slatedroid.com/index.php?topic=12192.msg99436;topicseen#msg99436
The post explaines something like that :
"The problem (for me anyway) is a that touchscreen plate is being squashed or deformed by cheap ass top cover. It is causing lots of junk touches be generated when you press it because of the warps in the plastic. That is why it works so much better when the cover is off. Its a noisy touchscreen but you can get it back down to "acceptable" levels for the touch driver's sample averaging algorithm to handle.
This is nothing to do with EMI or any fancy electrical stuff.. just crap design and workmanship quality.
This is a (and I mean relatively.. ) easy fix by adding a shim under the edges of touchscreen so there is little or no pressure on the screen itself and/or shaving off some plastic off the stand where the LCD screen sits. You need to make sure that the touch screen is not warped or twisted in any way. If you have ever tried to mod an EEEPC netbook with a third party touch screen, then you would know what I mean. mmm.. I'm guess not many of you guys here have. "
or here, on Apad-France forum in french :

Good luck !
Androidtouchpc.com released SL-A8, HEROTAB dual speaker firmwares last night
Androidtouchpc.com has came through once again for all those with the Touch8 Max or the SL-A8 (Utopia model) or the dual speaker Herotab. We are finishing up another clone model and that will be released shortly as well, but if you have either of the 2 models mentioned, visit us on the web and support our efforts. We have put in a lot of time with this release and appreciate all the support. We now have a full Android Market, we have tested the other methods out there, but this is the only true 100% market. We also addressed the G-sensor for the models mentioned. If your model was not mentioned, be patient as we will have those releases shortly. Once again thanks for the support as we will have more to come.....
Hi there jefflyonfr,I have one of that Cortex A8 Tablet with badly shaking screen
the method given is very interesting and I will try to do it,but first
How do I open the back cover of the unit?? (no screws)
Can you give a step by step instructions
What type of material you use for the "shim"
Have been to slatedroid web site but could not understand the instructions
This is my first Android Tablet also first time O/S user so please bear with me

[OFFICIAL] Kyrillos' ROM Problems, Questions & Answers

Hello to all
Too many people don't have enough posts to post on my rom's thread.
So i decided to created a new thread in general!
Here you can post your problems or ask something you dont understand for the flashing process etc.
Will be posted flashing info and known flashing problems here soon.
So feel free to post your question, or report a bug!
1. How to flash Kyrillos' rom?
- Instructions: Here
2. I just flashed Kyrillos' rom and after flashing the phone bootloops (it plays the same boot sound again and again).
- You havent done a Wipe data/factory reset in Recovery mode. Remove the battery & re-insert it, go into recovery mode (Vol up + Vol down + home + power), and select the Wipe data/factory reset option. Click yes, and reboot.
3. The phone booted but my sd partition isnt working. What should i do?
- Firstly you have to ensure that you put the Hybrid Data2SD files in your sdcard. They are contained in v8.0 rom you downloaded. You can also download them from here. You must put the four files (data2sd.dirs, fs.data2sd, multiosdata, multiosdata.cache) in /sdcard/Android/data/G3mod/*. Then reboot your phone and your partition should work.
4. I partitioned my sdcard but i dont see the free sdcard (a2sd) space in Titanium Backup.
- Hybrid Data2SD doesnt show up in Titanium Backup. Its normal Fixed
5. After restoring my backup with Titanium Backup, i dont see all my apps in Android Market.
- Go in Titanium Backup, find Android Market and wipe Android Market's data. Reboot your phone, and it should be ok.
6. I have too much lag!
- Make sure that you dont have more than 50 User Apps installed in your phone.
- Go in titanium and do a batch operation: Move all apps to internal memory
- If you have a linux-swap partition in your sdcard, delete it.
- Go in Settings/Sound and disable all Feedback sounds (leave the haptic feedback checked if you want )
7. I have battery drain issue.
- Let the battery calibrate itself and after 3-4 days recheck if the problem remains.
- If your problem isn't fixed and you have installed the Overclocked version, install Setcpu and change the governor to OnDemand or Conservative. You can try to Undervolt/Underclock the cpu too. You should make a screen off profile (83min - 400max) too.
- If SetCPU is not used, in OC version, CPU frequency is at stable 800MHz, on performance, so there MUST be a battery draining^^
So, SetCPU is absolute nesassary to be installed and set up. Best working governour is ondemand, if it laggs, drop up threshold in advanced to lower level.
8. What are the best settings for setcpu? [Updated 25/10/11]
- Main tab: Min 83Mhz, Max 800-1200MHz, Scaling: Ondemand (or Conservative), Set on boot: Tick
- Profiles tab: Set on boot: tick
- Profile (1): In call: 83min, 400max, Scaling: Ondemand, Priority:100
- Profile (2): Time profile: 1AM - 7AM (here put the time you sleep), min/max 83MHz, Scaling: Powersave, Priority: 99
- Profile (3): Screen off: 83min, 400max, Scaling: Ondemand, Priority:98
- Voltages: Try -100mV in all frequencies from 500-1200. If it hangs, try -75mV/-50mV, apply, set on boot: tick
9. How to enable v6 supercharger?
- Go in Terminal Emulator, type "su" hit [enter] (you may see a superuser popup, press "Allow", then type "v6_supercharger" hit [enter]
- Choose scrolling speed "2".
- It will ask you if you want intergration with init.rc, choose yes (press Y).
- It will ask you if the home is locked in memory, choose no (Press whatever you want except Y)
- When you see this: Please enter option 1-30, enter 2
- Let the rest of the text scroll through. When script finishes, press the home button, then press the power button and reboot the phone.
- For best results, go in recovery and wipe dalvik-cache and cache.
Note: You must re-enabled v6_supercharger after kyrillos' rom updates!
10. I have a partition in my sdcard and each time i try to install an app from market, the phone just reboots!
- This could be a corrupted filesystem problem. Make a backup d repartition your sd.
- Wipe data/factory reset.
11. I really miss some removed apps. Where can i find them & how to install them?
- You can find any app you want in this thread [By Dharam]
- To install an app, you must put it in /system/app/. There are many ways to do that.
- a) Copy the app you want to install in your sdcard. Use an app, which called root explorer. Open it, find the app you want, copy it, navigate to /system/app/, press the Mount R/W button on the top-right of your screen once, the click paste. Reboot your phone.
- b) You must know how to use adb. adb push appname.apk /system/app/
12. Kies isn't working.
- I highly recommend you to stop using Kies and start using Titanium Backup!
- Anyway, to get it working you must download this and this app and put it in /system/app/
13. How much left data space is normal to have after i install Kyrillos' rom?
- If you dont have partition in your sdcard: ~112MB
- If you have partition in your sdcard: ~150+MB
14. Gps isn't working.
- The gps in our phone isnt the best. I did try to make it better and for many users i did succeed.
15. I have partition in my sdcard but internal storage is still 200MB instead of eg. 1200MB (if partition => 1GB)
- Its normal. Your partition works as it should, but its not full data2sd, and thats the reason that it doesnt show 1200MB.
16. One of my apps cant start because it detects that i have adblock on my phone.
- Download Adfree Android from Android Market, open it and click "Revert"
17. When i sent messages in Arabic it displays ??? ? ? ???? ??? ???
- Go in messaging settings => Input Mode: and change it to Automatic or Unicode
18. I want to set an mp3 file as ringtone or notification sound. What should i do?
- Make a "media" folder in your sdcard. Inside it make an "audio" folder and then make a "ringtones" or "notifications" folder and place the mp3. Reboot and select it from settings
19. The order of the messages is fu**ed up. How to fix it?
- Go to Settings => Date and Time. Untick "Automatic" and et the correct Time Zone!
20. Sometimes i see squares instead of letters.
- It happens because the Ubuntu font. Download android fonts from v9.0_extras if you cant live with it
21. What about themes? How can i know if a theme is compatible with kyrillos rom?
- Firstly, you have to check it it supports nine lockscreen. (If it doesnt, contact the developer of the theme and ask him to enable his theme 9 lockscreen support)
- You can replace any if the theme files EXCEPT: Settings.apk, android.policy.jar, framework.jar, services.jar. If you do replace any if those, your phone will bootloop.
- Enjoy the theme
22. What is Chainfire3D? How to configure it? (Use version v2.8)
- Info: Chainfire3D is an intermediary OpenGL driver. What does that mean? It means that Chainfire3D sits between your apps and the graphics drivers, and can intercept and/or change commands between the two. It has some built-in functions, and can be further extended with plugins to provide extra functionality. (More info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087427)
- With Kyrillos' rom v9 + Chainfire3D you can play some 3d games, or play some games better than before & without white textures.
- Chainfire3D installation: Ensure that you have Kyrillos' rom v9 OC. Download Chainfire3D Free or Chainfire3D Pro, run it, accept the su permissions. Press "CF3D driver", and then press "Install". The phone will reboot in a few seconds/minutes.
- Plugin installation: When it boots up, download the plugins (search for Chainfire3D plugins on google. Plugins: libGLEMU_NVIDIA.so, libGLEMU_POWERVR.so, libGLEMU_QUALCOMM.so), put the in your sdcard and open the app. Press "Install Plugins and Shaders". The app will search your phone to see if there is any plugin available in your sd. Install all the three plugins. Go back to the main app menu.
- Configure Chainfire3D: In the main app menu, press "Default OpelGL settings". Select the option "Reduce texture quality", and then choose plugin by pressing "Use plugin". There are 3 choices: Powervr, Qualcomm & Nvidia.
- Test the plugins: Select the "Powervr" plugin and run the game you want. Run it for a minute. Then close the game and change the plugin to "Qualcomm" and run the game for a minute. Compare which plugin worked best (if it worked) and enjoy the game. Note: Nvidia games require Nvidia plugin.
23. Most of the apps are being installed in sdcard instead of internal/partition. How can i change the default app install location to internal?
- Open terminal amulator
- Type:
su (enter)
pm setInstallLocation 1 (enter)
- Done [Info: 0 (Auto), 1 (Internal), 2 (External). You can see the current state by typing "pm getInstallLocation".]
24. How to convert my sdext partition from ext3 to ext4?
- Download KMapp from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301697
- Install it and run it. Accept the superuser permissions and press the menu button. Select "Filesystem Conversion". Scroll down and select Sdext => ext4 and click "Convert".
25. What is Mobile Tracker and how to set it up? (Highly recommended // Enabled it in case you lose your phone) (for Kyrillos rom v9.4+)
- The Samsung Galaxy 3 comes with a mobile tracker software by default which is not activated, as you need to register your phone and account with the Samsung online website. Only then the option works and your phone goes more safer, as the Mobile tracker is one of the best options to use when your phone is stolen or lost.
The Samsung Dive mobile tracker is something that helps you remotely work on your phone when it is stolen. The online website of its helps you in remotely swiping the phone and delete delete your private data. Though this service is not available in India, a few features of its work, like prompt SMS sending when the phone is used with any new SIM than that which was used to register with the mobile tracker. The app also helps in getting the location information of the phone.
- How to set it up (source):
α. Go to Applications => Settings section in the phone. Select Location and Security tab in it.
β. Scroll down in the menu in Location and Security, and you will see a section for Mobile tracker. Here you need to hit the “Set Mobile Tracker” option which will set the mobile tracker recipient and control the remote phone that is activated. It will take you through the process of registration and set-up of the mobile tracker.
γ. The first thing you need to set is the mobile tracker password which would be asked to you or anyone who changes the SIM in the phone. It has to be of 8 digits and all numeric characters in it. You need to remember this password for always, as it can get your phone locked if you forget it and type the wrong password multiple times.
δ. After you set the password, you need to add recipients to whom the phone sends an SMS from the new SIM to notify/alert them about the changes made in the phone.
ε. Set the information of the sender, i.e. the Sender name and the message to be sent to the recipient. And then agree to the terms.
στ. Login through your Samsung account, and if you have not registered to it, you can do that for free online by registering the product. And then you would be directed to the mobile tracker settings where you can change any recipient or make changes in the samsung account.
ζ. After everything is setup, go back to the Settings section, and into the Location and Security section. There you have to check the “Mobile Tracker” option, so that it is activated.
Note: If at all you have reset your phone through the factory reset option, all the information in the Mobile tracker is lost. You need to set it all over again.
- Now if you lose your phone or somebody stole it, you can track it and/or lock it and/or wipe all your private data in SamsungDive.

I flashed your version of ROM directly from DDJP2 with the hope that camera bug would go,and the facebook touchsite would open. But even your rom has the same thing. So i changed to the european version new release XWJPF. And its pretty stable an i can bet its boots alot faster than any of the custom rom or even offcial ROM.
Anyway is there any solution.
1)The camera bug. YOu cant click a photo unless you get a fix on location or disable the location settings.
2)Facebook touchsite wont open like it use to open in eclair. DDJP6. And when you open facebook it shows GT-I5510.
Please fix this.

Linux-Swap
What is SWAP?
Swap space is an auxiliary storage, such as a portion of a hard-disk, which can be used as memory by the operating system when system RAM is insufficient. This is especially useful on systems with very little system RAM, such as most DD-WRT compatible routers, as it helps prevent the system from running out of memory when multiple background processes are installed.
Swap is rarely used, and if you have a high class sd you may see more responsive phone.

So in a class 2 SD swap should not be used.
But a class 4 is OK, isn't it?

The "gt 5510" issue is Facebook's problem, not Kyrillos's or Samsungs problem. This does not affect anything, other phones are detected falsely, too. Facebook divided phones to groups and the most ubiquotous phone is shown. This only serves for offering you the correct version of Facebook app. This is a non issue.
I never saw "the camera bug", is this present only in India?

i mean when ever i open facebook touch site the mobile site opens. And is there any solution for the camera bug???
Every time i click a photo i have to wait for a lock or have to disable the location.
My camera was working perfect on Stock eclair DDJG6. But after upgraing i am having this prblm. My camera is working perfect but if the location is enabled and if i dont have lock on my position my camera would force close if a click a photo. But if its turned off it works flawlessly. And in FROYO their isnt any option for turning off Geo-tagging.
And when i flashed kyrillos 4.1 i ddnt do any partition or anything i directly flashed it over DDJP2 by wiping cache. And i ddnt understand the procedure of the partitioning properly. I liked the ROM though.
Do you have any solution for this prblem..or a most stable ROM that doesnt have any prblm.
DDJG6>DDJP2>Kyrillos 4.1>XWJPF
tnx for thread.
I have v4.1 and i had some probs. 1st when using CoPilot and GPS. Phone was just turn off, and that happend 4 times :S. 2nd: Day before yesterday, phone just turned it self off, and i couldnt turn it on.
Everything else is OK, I have OC version and its great!
Also, can you put battery change by 1% in new version?

GPS problem flashing from Lestat 1.8 >> Kyrillos 4.1 fixed
Kryrillos,
Thanks for all these roms
Curruntly using 4.1 ultimate non OC.
4.1 OC just sometimes freezes even at 667 mhz.
Tried Lestat 1.8 alpha 14 is was very slow with reading sd card and also the phone reacts slow.
So decide to flash back to Kyrillos 4.1 non oc.
Everything works only GPS fix was not working.
After wipe cache / factory reset.
It is oke, gps fix in 30 sec or less.
can you do something about flash and 3d driver for next version ?

Everything for ChaCha (Status) - S-OFF, root & More

Hello everyone!
Feedback is much appreciated.
DISCLAIMER: Please note that this guide contains information gathered from all the HTC ChaCha (Status) sections, which means that a lot of users have contributed to this. I have only gathered all the information here so it would be easier for new/old users to check specific problems/questions. Please give thanks to the "comunity".
1. S-OFF and bootloader unlocking
First of all, you must understand that some phones will come with S-ON and others with S-OFF from HTC's factories.
S-OFF is available only with an XTC Clip and as of 17 January 2012 the bootloader can be unlocked via the htcdev site.

Unlocking the bootloader will allow you to flash CWM, root your phone and install custom roms. Unlocking the bootloader will NOT give you S-OFF!
Root and CWM are not possible without S-OFF/unlocked bootloader.
Questions regarding custom ROMs: custom ROM will not give you S-OFF/unlocked bootloader since you need to have S-OFF/unlocked bootloader to install CWM to install a custom ROM. Therefore you cannot install a custom ROM on a non-S-OFF-non-bootloader-unlocked-non-rooted-non-CWM phone. Understood?
Addendum to #1 by myself (from thread questions):
How to check if your phone is S-ON or S-OFF:
- Go to Settings -> Power -> Uncheck Fast boot
- Turn off your phone
- Press and hold Volume Down button and press Power button
- Recovery screen will be shown (after the HTC logo). At the top left of the screen you'll see the text S-ON or S-OFF (besides other info related to HBOOT, RADIO version and whatnot).
2. root
Thanks to adlx.xda
After you'll S-OFF your phone or unlock its bootloader, you can root it using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184118
It works.
I repeat, root is not possible without S-OFF or unlocking your bootloader first.
3. CWM
Thanks to Mikevhl
You can find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1164468
Tested and works fine. Please note that the sd card partition will not work on the stock ROM. You'll need a custom ROM for that. For the extended partition I mean.
4. Internal Memory too low?
The first problem that ChaCha (Status) has is the small internal memory. How to fix this? Simple:
- Start your phone (first time, perform the initial setup, add you accounts, email settings and whatnot)
- Download your apps (from Android Market, HTC Likes, HTC Hub, etc.)
- Go to Settings and perform a factory data reset
- After the initial setup and you have all your apps again, go to Setup -> Applications -> Move all downloaded apps to SD card.
- You should have at least 50 MB after all the apps are installed (even more)
Addendum to #4 by myself (from user questions):
APP2SD
Write it down somewhere . Now, jokes aside, HTC probably figured that the 150MB internal memory the phone has won't suffice even the "economy-class" users so they included the APP2SD application (APP2SD = Application to SD). How does it work? Simple as 1-2-3:
- Download any application. Any.
- Go to Settings -> Application -> Manage Applications
- Now the first tab is being called "Downloaded" (hmm, I wonder why?!). Well, yeah, basically all the applications/widgets that you download will be in this list right here.
- Select any application from that list and in the next screen press the "Move to SD card" (which is the bottom right button on the screen.
That's about it I guess. Oh, right, almost forgot.. Just one more thing. When an application is being moved from phone to SD card, some data will still remain on the phone (so that the phone knows where the application is, settings, user data, etc.). Don't be scared as this is usually less than 30% of that application's size. Please note that you cannot move ROM/HTC/stock applications (with 1-2 exceptions).
One thing to note though: I have seen that internal memory remains occupied by downloading/installing/uninstalling stuff and those silly remnants won't go away (unfortunately). What you must do under these circumstances is to reset your phone to factory data. I'm assuming that it must be done once every 2-3 months.
Just make sure you have the following options settings activated before you reset your phone:
- Settings -> Privacy -> Activate Back up my Settings and Automatic restore
- Now back out of this menu and go to Accounts & Sync and Sync your accounts (Google, HTC Sense, Mail)
- Now back to Settings - SD & phone storage, browse to the bottom and select Factory data reset
- After the initial setup of the phone, add your accounts back and Sync
- Normally, most of your apps and settings should be restored (except apps installed from other sources)

5. Titanium Backup
Tired of those silly bloatware apps and widgets that come with the stock? Then install Titanium Backup and remove them. Some things I removed are all the Facebook stuff (apps, widgets, etc.), Twitter, Gtalk, News, Stocks, News&Weather. Remember to make backups in case something goes wrong.
Do not (and I repeat) remove .apk's of installed applications with Root Explorer.
Addendum to #5 by sabesh:
System updates for Google Maps and YouTube can be integrated to the ROM via Titanium Backup. It's quite an easy thing to do, open up Titanium Backup, press & hold for two seconds on Youtube and from the list that appears select "Integrate update into ROM" (it's below, scroll the list).
6. Use the Search button!
Ladies, gentlemen.. I beg of you.. Use the search button. Everywhere! Android Market App. There's a small magnifying glass at the top, next to the text "market". There is a magnifying glass on your touch keys (4th button). Two buttons that nobody uses
7. Use https://market.android.com
You still find it difficult to find something on Android Market App? Simple. Use the above link, search what you want via your web browser (make sure you are logged into the site with the same GMail account as the one used on the phone), open one app then click on the install button. It's that simple. Of course, your phone needs to be connected to the internet but that shouldn't be a problem, eh?
8. Custom ROMs - and stock mods (stock ROM with modifications)
Ok, ok.. I know that these shouldn't be here (as it's quite easy to find them in the threads) but just to be on the safe side:
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698206
Stock ROMs and OTAs: http://www.swtesting.ro/alex/downloads/
If you use any of the above ROMs remember to give them a thanks and a well-thought feedback (this would greatly help everyone).
9. Themes&Apps
There is an entire section available (it's quite new and young, so to speak) where you can take a look regarding different themes and apps tried by the ChaChaChaChaCha owners: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=958590
There are other threads in the section, but the one above already contains a list of tried and working apps (scroll down).
10. Battery (No)Life
"Dude, I'm serious.. I just hit the 24 hours record before the phone was empty!" - Hmm, maybe I'm being a little bit sarcastic, or maybe harsh.. Or both. But the point is that I have this phone, I love it for the QWERTY (Yes, I am the QWERTY European type) keyboard-awesomeness that it holds and I do love texting, sending emails, surfing the web (even with the small screen, I couldn't care less), gaming on android.. Now that's one huge problem. That's why it's bold out. Gaming eats a whole lot of battery. And by a whole lot of battery I mean 10-15% in 30 minutes or something like that. Wi-Fi/mobile data also eat a lot of battery but in comparison with gaming, that's nothing.
There were already thoughts and impressions about how battery life can be improved or managed with this phone which you can read
here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171136
here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122217
Well now, since a lot of people have been complaining, it seems that some battery makers have already started shipping some stuff (good or bad, don't know yet). You can check this thread for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258028 where you can see the discussions about the 2430mAh battery. You can also read the other threads within the ChaCha Accessories section which contain other batteries/battery packs and mobile power sources. It could help you and others.. Maybe.
11. [S-ON] How to downgrade chacha to lower firmware version
by ajeevlal, can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320392
It doesn't matter the reasons you would want to downgrade your firmware, it matters only the fact that it's possible with S-ON. Users have various reasons and thankfully, ajeevlal was smart enough to find a way to perform a downgrade for the unbranded(this one was tested) S-ON users. Use the "Thanks" button on the page above.
12. [S-ON] TempRoot
by qzfive with some help from ajeevlal which you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319386
The thread above is reported MIA (missing in action) so use this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1338872
Great news S-ON'ers (is this the correct term? Or should it be S-ON's? Hmm... I'm wondering.) you can now have *TEMP* root on your device, without the need of the XTC or the htcdev site. Of course this doesn't mean that you can flash CWM, therefore you cannot flash a custom ROM, but you can still flash busybox, and you can get a bunch of neat features that users without it can't get. You should really check it out and see if your device gets healthier until the bootloader is unlocked.
13. Facebook button remapping for unrooted(!) HTC ChaCha
by anmipo which you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440515
One day, after he woke up from the subconsciousness of the 2012 "end-of-the-world" year, anmipo decided that he should take the weight of the world in his hands and decided to develop this nifty little app for "THE PEOPLE", to use and cherish and prey to it's powers.
Now, onto serious business, like the internet. This application will help you change that FB button, which is assignable by the way, the easy way. Go check the thread and get the application. And give the man some props! Congrats.

15. CID
by "thread discussions" suggested by adlx.xda
The CID, Carrier ID, is designed to lock a device to a specific carrier SIM. Even if some devices come unlocked, the CID is designed and designated before reaching the re-seller which by then won't be able to change it (or it will be able, who knows ). As many questions regarding keyboard/language features have spontaneously combusted around the forum, I am suggesting users to get what adlx.xda said: https://market.android.com/details?id=org.tritonsoft.cidgetter&feature=search_result . This application, CID Getter, will display your CID so when you are posting questions about the key "X" not working on the ROM "X" you can also add this CID info in the same post. It will be easier for people to know what is the original region of your device and why is this happening.
16. ADB
by adlx.xda
As some of you know, the adb (Android Debug Bridge) is a command line tool that lets you communicate with an emulator instance or connected Android-powered device. It is a client-server program that includes three components:
- A client, which runs on your development machine. You can invoke a client from a shell by issuing an adb command. Other Android tools such as the ADT plugin and DDMS also create adb clients.
- A server, which runs as a background process on your development machine. The server manages communication between the client and the adb daemon running on an emulator or device.
- A daemon, which runs as a background process on each emulator or device instance.
You can find the adb tool in <sdk>/platform-tools/.
As some people don't really want to install the SDK, since it's used mostly for development, adlx.xda suggested that a small adb kit can be used by users who want to push/pull/flash files onto their devices without spending a couple of hours downloading, installing and setting up the whole kit.
Therefore, you can get the small kit from here: http://alex.swtesting.ro/downloads/adb-and-moto-fastboot-win32.zip
More to come. I'm sure of it...

Yes, mainly that's why I wanted to make this "everything" guide. Because different threads are in wrong sections and people tend to ask the same questions over and over again.. I really hope this helps everyone, especially new ChaCha users.
Hello,
Quick question, how can i find if my phone is S-OFF or S-ON? I am planning to buy that xtc clip...
thaks
Gosh, good one. Didn't thought anyone would ask.
Settings -> Power -> Uncheck Fast boot
Now power off your phone. Hold Volume Down button then press Power button.
In the recovery screen you'll see at the top left S-ON or S-OFF.
I am new ti android. But as the guy from which i bought it told me that he unlocked it, it is true.
It's S-OFF HBOOT 1.04.0000
Radio 7.47.35.17
Now i can install those new customs ROMs ?
Hello, I am a noob too but one thing you need to realise is that - read around.
If your handset is S-OFF (you are lucky) - you can boot any of the three available roms (when i say 'Three' i mean the number (not the 3G Network):
FreakCha by freakysands: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1258758
Superdroid by FCW: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1206921
CAMDroid by TechMayhem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1255929
So go ahead and download and flash or SD whatever. And remember to ROOT & Clockwork Mod!!
I rooted my phone with success bought Titanium Pro and managed to save some space on my phone, very glad about that now i'm not sure if i want to install one of those 3 ROMs because some applications which i need are deleted and some of them are installed, which i don't need.
I'll wait for others. Thanks for this great guide!

Since it's the first setup, after you install all your apps, sync your account with GMail, activate from Settings Backup & Restore, perform a factory reset data, re-sync your account (all your apps should reinstall automatically, mine are) and move all your downloaded apps to SD card (go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage -> select any application and click the Move to SD card button). You should be getting to around 60-70MB.
Already downloading all my apps, i read all day this forum and made necessary prep
i'm glad now that i bought 2 weeks ago a wireless router
Cool, glad it works
Guide info:
Added Addendum to #1 and #4.
Dude - 1.20 Light is not a Custom-ROM it is a Stock with a few applications removed - i do not reckon it should be under Custom-ROMS section (as the guy says it is his own setup) so put it under a section called 'stock roms' and leave a foot note or something to save confusion for noobs - thanks. Plus he says it's a backup not a zip update - so pretty lame. Thanks dude.
Whatever!? i don't spend all day searching web about tech stuff so go ahead and laugh as much as you want.
kthxbye

dude - i was not talking to you - i was talking to Alex C. And it was about to do with a stock ROM nothing about you and I was not being offensive when i said noob - I JOINED THIS MONTH.
Relax.
Good job alex, I'm also suffering from the low internal memory problem after some time (after reset) whoever thought chacha with 100+mb internal memory is sufficient in HTC should be shot! Memory isn't that expensive nowdays either. That said, kudos on getting a good thread going for chacha users

True with the memory though. Quite cheap but too bad that HTC decided to stick with the low memory hardware

Is this malware?

I randomly started getting 2 notifications; one saying I had low memory, a second that I was running out of space. When I clicked on the notification, I get 'attached image' screen. (I have never clicked on the start test button, it's big, and red... It scares me!)
I've done a fair bit of searching but can't find any topics/posts (searching "speed up your Android" is a bit of a nightmare...)
So, yeah. Has anyone seen this before? I have removed the last 3-4 apps I installed, but no change. I was using L launcher until it started overriding my screen with ads for a couple of apps. This would occur when I had installed a new app via playstore. After uninstalling, those ads have gone..
Any thoughts or help will be appreciated.
Cheers,

That picture tells me you don't own your device, someone else does. For starters, reinstall your current rom with the complete wipe and I mean wiping internal sd too. Remove your simcard before rebooting. Then get root, because if you don't, that would mean that Android system owns your phone. Just because you don't have root does not mean that system apps don't: They do (and you don't). So, get root, set it up for prompt and deselect "trust system user". You don't want to trust anything. Second, get Afwall from F-Droid and allow internet only for apps you use: browser, messaging etc. Don't allow system apps to connect to the internet. I mean none. Second, don't get any app that has ads. Period. If you do, you will always end up in a situation shown on your photo. There are many more things you can do: just read this forum, but these limited steps should protect you from major threats.
Ah, bugger. Thought that may be the response...
When do I reinsert sim card? And I'm guessing I can't use the .zip of the ROM currently stored in my internal storage?
Thanks for your reply.

You can reinsert the sim card once you setup the firewall and whitelist the apps that are allowed internet access (all others - denied). You can still use zip files that contain a good rom. You can flash that rom and then format SD card before rebooting (you can also transfer known good apps to your external SD or PC and later put them back).

Okay, cool. So to confirm, you don't believe any .zip or .apk that I'm 100% sure were safe downloads (roms, gapps, playstore backup apks etc), might be infected? (They are stored in internal storage (HTC M7)). I was going to clear everything but if you believe them to be safe I'll keep some of my backed-up apps etc to save redownloading again.. (My current rom and gapps files too for that matter...)
Thanks for taking the time to help me out. :good:
Also, is there a windose virus scanner that's any good at scanning .apks etc for Android nasties??
Thanks.

There is no way I can tell you that the apps or roms you have (which are unknown to me) are safe. It is your call. There is plenty of garbage in playstore. I, for example, don't use gapps or anything Google. I have no google services framework, so there is no way for Google to know what is on my device. Google even does not know I have android: when I login to my gmail (using web browser), I get an e-mail saying someone using Linux just logged in the account). So, I would transfer internal SD somewhere else and then examine each app (you can do it in store) to see if there are any ads. Apps that have ads are no go...
Good luck.
