I think it's time for the people to decide and make it easier for the devs. Do the majority want the ram hack or are there more gamers ^^
No ram hack. I want an great overall device.
should be in general section
Can't stand having an game lag, makes my device feel worthless
Well when I thought there were no such thing as stupid questions, you changed my mind lol.

i thought about that. but i think it's quite useful for the devs if the community decides to rather want non ramhack than with or the other way around. if im wrong a mod can move that. ^^
I like the fact I've got my g1 with 50mb of free memory available but it does get boring when I can't play games like Radiant, I posted earlier asking if their could be a toggle between the two, but it looks like a pain.
I have a pc, an xbox 360, a wii, nintendo dsi and a laptop.
I also have Snesoid, Gensoid & gameboid on my phone.
Who gives a crap about blocky choppy finished in 10 minuted 3d games on there phone?
Give me speed and fluidity over playing second rate 3d games on my G1 any day. If you really wanted a device to play pretty 3d games go buy an iphone or something as it does it so much better than android.
I also bet all the above most the users wanting to play 3d games are under the age of 18!
No Ram Hack. IMO, running a swap bigger than 32MB will not flush your apps out of memory.

Yeah if there was a rom where we could toggle through the ram hack it'd be useful. An app like SetCPU.

im almost 19 xD
and btw there are some ppl who want to kill time during work or train or whatever. also the kill of gpu memory doesnt only affect the games. apps like the new music player of felipe abrantes(?) need some gpu power for his cube to switch through the album covers. i suppose launcher2.apk would also rum smoother without ram hack (i know that is only for eclair and we have no drivers there )
App idea
@ Devs
Is it not possible to make an app that has the RamHack and NonRamHack boot.img. Then it pushes the appropriate one when you select it and reboots.
Just a thought.

I am 34 and still want to play 3D games for Phones I also have othergaming gears but they are just different devices.
NO RAM HACK coz it makes no BIG difference, only makes the device unstable.
Thanks for the poll anyway

Dude it doesn't really matter anyways. In the end the option to do the 10mb Ram Hack is the decision of the Cook.
Both having and not having the 10mb both have their benefits and their let downs. That's why a lot of cooks are starting to make ROM's with and without the hack.
So basically, in 4 words, this thread is pointless. There are gunna be people that like the Ram Hack and there are people that don't.
Sorry if I come off rude, it's my nature even though I don't want to be.

No, you actually put it politely in my view =). This is a good point, as most devs are putting up non-ram hacks for their roms and kernels.

I agree with what this guy said^^. Well done. Bravo. Cheers. Round of applause, and Amen
So you people wanna play games huh? You gotta be kidding me. Games over speed? Never. Do yourself a favor and un-root yourself.
Well, I'm developping an opengl application that suffers from the 10mb hack : things are really slow with it.
However, the overall phone is far much responsive with this 10mb hack.
So if there was a way to easily de/activate it, that would be really great. But I assume that's hard to do (if ever possible) because as of now, nobody did it.
But then I had another idea : would it be possible to keep, say, 2Mb in gpu0 (or gpu1, can't remember where this hack takes memory) instead of freeing it all ? This way, there would still be 2mb for textures (which should be large enough for many 3d apps), giving us the best of both worlds.
I don't really know if this is possible (I need to install a linux+toolchain to compile the kernel, but not enough spare time for now), but that might be an interesting thing to test.
Oh, almost forgot : if anybody decides to give it a try, I'd like to call it "the 8mb ram hack"
There are so many games on the Market that you can play that are fun, classic, and entertaining that do not heavily require the GPU
Few Examples:
Bonsai Blast
Space War
PacMan
ProjectINF
Light Racer
So It's not like its really all that bad having the 10mb Ram Hack. Its such a minute sacrifice. Besides there are a lot more 2d games then 3d so yeah....You really aren't sacrificing much.
Ramhack is no longer necessary as Roms are so frickin fast... I have a class 6 sd swap. thats fast enough for me!
Plus I'm addicted to speedX3d
Hey peeps,
So Shadowgun got released for other Android devices earlier this week and I decided to download it and try to give it a go. I knew it would be a fat chance seeing as the game probably needs a dual core phone to run adequately. Nevertheless, I was up to the challenge to find a way to play this awesome game. So I got it and played and while it's smooth in some areas it gets really bad when multiple enemies are on screen. I also purchased Chainfire 3d to see if that would help because of what I have seen in other forums. Tweaking the settings I believe the quality has gotten a bit better,, but at the expense of texture quality which (to me) is pretty noticable considering how beautiful the game is in itself. Just seeing if anyone else got this game to run smoothly on their phone? If so, how? Would overclocking the cpu do any good? Any threads I should look into for that?
Yes, overclocking gives a slight boost in performance. I usually crank it up to 1.2ghz if I'm gonna be doing some serious gaming.

I am on stock 2.3.6. I installed 1.2 apk and it really lags alot.
Xperia play unrooted and stock seems to play it quite smoothly, nexus S is more powerful so surely it should run smooth??
I have the same problem and I also like to know how to fix it.. The game runs reaply badly for my usual gaming habits. I use Matrix kernel @ 1.46GHz and the latest CM9 nightly. I get really high bench scores for 4.0.3 and overall performance kicks the ass of my friends' stock Galaxy SII I-9100.

I have generally found the general section to be most responsive. That method you are saying is via root and I am not rooted.
I always played it on mute anyway, and after deleting the audio files i got a massive jump in performance (audio was being processed even with volume at 0). Personal preference, but a noticeable fps jump.
So I guess the game isnt optimized for powerVR?? It seems to run fine on adreno 205, this is disappointing.
I mainly want to play it for the nostalgic bit and the audio is really important part of it.
The nostalgia value of my GTA3 experience was with a sound bug that forced the rain to play constantly. Not really the highlight of the game for me
The sound on the Nexus S seems kind of delayed and i've noticed many games that slow down a little as sounds are meant to kick in. I don't know exactly why, maybe mediaserver isn't given good enough priority. This seems to be the same issue that plagued my GTA3 adventures though.

perhaps being rooted is the reason I have yet to experience the problems you describe. I play gta and games which are more graphic intensive than gta with np.
I don't think the processor is to blame for your inability to play the game. The ns processors have proven to be more than capable of handling most processes. Rather, the stock software does not allow the hardware to reach its full potential. In other words, the nexus s is a peacock you; you've got to let it fly.

I havent experienced lag in any other game and I have played a few. Asphalt 6 runs smooth as well.
And btw my audio runs perfect and never stutters.
I saw youtube video of overclocked nexus S running GTA3 and even that had performance issues.
just install 1.3, i used to have major lag on 1.2 on my nexus s but on 1.3 i have no lag. Huge improvement!

Peacocks don't fly
renaming the "audio" folder into "audio1" made the game much much smoother. i don't mind the missing sound. But isn't there a way to make it run even better? i still experience some massive lag problems...
Huge gain in performance by deleting the Audio folder. Thanks for the tip, now I can enjoy this game.
Controls take some getting to.

If you honestly think that your quadrant score makes your phone with a single A8 cortex core faster than two A9 cores there is something seriously wrong with you. Software tweaks can make up to 1% difference in actual performance.

Just did that and you got me excited as there was no lag in the opening cutscene. But it was back as soon as I started driving.
The sad part is I thought I wouldnt care about the game as the controls would be really bad but they arent that bad, it's very much playable but the performance is the issue.

Don't forget that the xperia play has a super fast graphics chip. That's why most of the time it will outdo may other newer phones with gaming in mind
Give this a try:

Isn't our SGX540 faster? I would say the game is just well optimized for the Xperia Play. Our GPU is pretty ok, it's actually still built in to the Galaxy Nexus (although I think it is higher clocked in this newer phone

Iam searching for a good stable htc desire s rom. That can play heavy games like, Gangster Rio, Nova 3, Asphalt 7, Gta 3. As smooth as possible!
I have tried many roms but they r all bad in heavy games. (Sometimes Crash, Freeze)
and the xperia play has exactly the same spec. as my htc desire s. And it doesn't lagg? How is this possible?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapdragon_(system_on_chip)
By the way i got know: ICE DS v.6.0 Rom
Android Version: 4.0.4
Sense: 3.6
Kernel: 3.0.46-Ck1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567715
And i tried today gangster rio. and it worked way smoother than the other roms. but there is still a bit of irritation lag here and there?
i even overclocked it to 1,5 ghz. the fps raised but. however it's still laggs.
Can someone please help me or give me some advice to run games smooth on a good rom!
By the way sorry for Pretty bad english!
I couldn't realy help you, but i can say I'm playing Asphalt 7 and Temple Run on my DS. I'm uing the sam ROM like you and there are no laggs, crashes or freezes. In case of the other games I could not say anything.
Did you flash FULL_WIPE_DS befor installing ICE_DS? Maybe there is gone some performance?
AOSP ROMs will be better for this case.
Not sure how they will run on JB ROMs, but I had great performance on CM7 a long time ago. Not lag-free, DS hardware isn't capable enough, but manageable.

yes!! same here,, i bought nfs most wanted today,, played one race ,, it was laggy, went on youtube , watched a video of xperia play running the same game with few lags and running like a boss!! then i thought it must be my rom or something,, went again on youtube , watched a video of desire hd running the same game ,, and it was also lagging ,just as mine,, its kinda weird , play have the same specs as compared to our desire s, and 256 mb less ram , still it runs the game smoother,,,,,,,,,

^^^ What he said ^^^ I don't play games on my phone much, but never had a problem either on pure CM7 or on Reaper. The latest games are going to struggle as devs are optimising them for quad-core devices, but that's to be expected.

How would gaming be??
I want to get this phone and have stock ICS/Sense on it!
However, I want to be able to play games smoothly, and I want this phone to be compatible with lots of games.
With the RAM and processor, that shouldn't be an issue... right?!?!
I want games. Like, Angry Birds, Bad Piggies, Fun Run, Temple Run, Infectonator, Dead Trigger, Shadowgun, etc.
Can I do this? Or am I asking for too much!!
Thanks in advance, guys!!
Well every device is different and I actually use a HTC EVO Shift to play eternity warriors 2 because my doubleshot don't like it much. Plus the doubleshot gets really hot where my shift don't. The specs on the shift are 512mb of ram ( true 368 ) and a 800Mhz single core s2. I'm over clocked to 1.7Ghz with way less heat

This phone doesn't have a stock ICS ROM, but there are several very good ports. The Sensation XE 3.32 ports are the best, IMO, being very stable and battery-friendly. The two that stand out are the Bliss ROM from sun_dream (based on XE 3.32, not the later 3.33 release) and the MikXE ROM. These should have no problem playing the games you desire.
The stock ROM for the MT4GS is a Gingerbread one, and if you want pure stock, where everything works as designed with no little quirks (well even stock ROMs will have a few quirks) then Miktouch 0.7 would be the way to go as it is based on the last HTC-supplied 1.63.531.2 ROM. Nothing else comes close to being as stable and battery friendly as that.
