Hey Guys
I tried searching and saw a few people with my issue but no real solution. I just got a One S coming from Sprint (Evo4g) and enjoy the One S except for the no SD card thing. I have no issue connecting my phone to my windows 7 machine as a disk drive, but I have 2 computers at work with XP and both do not recognize my phone. I get a "USB device not recognized" message on my taskbar and when I click it, there is no driver installed for my phone. Same thing with both XP machines. OK, so I search the internet for an HTC USB driver, cant find one ANYWHERE, a few sites that seemed to have had them have removed them. HTC website is missing the One S support page entirely right now, awesome. So after I clicked around while I eventually found a link for HTC Sync software and tried installing that. Still no driver was installed and cannot connect that way either. At a loss here, any advice? If so does anyone have any links for actual things to install that can fix this issue?
Feel like a newb here but coming from the EVO i am very familiar with rooting, installing ROMs etc so find it hard to believe this is so difficult.
Thanks!
David

Maybe no one uses XP when there is nothing wrong with Windows 7 but if you rooted already you use Flash Image GUI for flashing boot.img then you wont need a PC to install a rom.

so I have already downloaded rev and i get everything right but after i enter the beta code its says "zerging root.... may take a minute or soo" and i can let it sit like this for hours with nothing happening PLEASE HELP
Specs:
Tmobile
2.3.4
hboot: 1.18.0000
What version of Windows are you using?
I am running windows 7
Hmmm, I had no issues with it myself but I would suggest running as administrator and see if that helps
lame part is I have tried that, if you have skype or something i can share my desktop to show you :/ its very frustrating lol, i stayed up all night -.-
OK so i ran rev on an older computer with xp and it worked right now im running leedriod ? so what can i do with these custom roms/?
I'm also using windows 7 and have had no problems. The fact that it says searching for root kinda makes me wonder if its the phone that's the problem and not your system. Is your phone connected with charge only selected? Do you have adb debugging enabled? Maybe try with another USB if you have checked the above while running as an administrator. You may have to disable your antivirus also. I have Norton and it detected revolutionary as a virus and kept deleting parts of it. That could also be the problem. You may be missing parts. Verify the zipped contents with the unzipped contents. *Edit* Just saw that you got it working. Great! But to answer your question, you can do everything. The only problem is, is figuring or what you want to do first.
doesnt say serching for root says zerging, which it sayed on the other comp too, idk why it wasnt running on my laptop but yah, so i installed leedriod on my phone , is there any roms you guys would suggest leedriod is alright but i think there are better ones out there/...
So I just got the latest version of CM7 for my Droid 2 Global and apart from all of the awesomeness there seems to be a fairly big problem: my pc will not recognize my phone being connected. It used to work (I used it to unbrick my phone, flash CM, root my phone, unroot it because GB raped my root, and I just used it to charge my phone on a daily basis). I've looked for this issue everywhere, and I either can't find somebody that has the same issue, or the way they resolved it doesn't work for me. What's interesting though is that if I plug in my phone then reboot it, my pc recognizes it... But if I unplug it, my pc won't recognize it if I plug it back in again. Hopefully this is simple enough that I can solve it (with anybodies gracious help of course) but not too simple that I feel stupid (even though I know almost nothing about what I'm actually doing).
Any helps and/or flame is greatly appreciated.
You probably would have much more luck solving this problem by heading to the forums where people actually work on this CM7 port.

Same issue
This is a known issue.

I don't know about the above advice, but,
I do know that I have read many many posts where the problem was resolved by getting the most recent drivers for your device. Unfortunately, I don't have a link to these to post, and I am not sure this will solve your problems but...

Could you be a little more specific? I've got the latest version of the google USB drivers installed available on the Android SDK tools.

It's not a problem with the latest drivers. It works fine when the phone is connected to the computer and then the phone is restarted. When it comes back up it is recognized perfectly fine. It's definitely something wrong in the build.
I have a problem. I just got my Android a couple of days ago and I really badly want to root it. I've tried multiple different programs and with each one the problem I get is "Waiting for device" in the cmd/terminal (Tried on multiple platforms: Vista, Win7, Ubuntu). I've tried installing drivers too and still didn't work (maybe the wrong drivers?).
Yes I realize that I am a "noob", but I really need some help here.
Got USB Debugging enabled ??
Got the correct upto date drivers ?

bumpp someone help?
Well Redownload the drivers and see if that helps, You could try Hasoon2000's All In One Kit to help with this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604677
As for ADB, (Android Debug Bridge) you should have this already, You need it to get unlock the bootloader and flash superboot (root) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427
Be sure to check out those links and also look at my FAQ section http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24884624&postcount=3
I have all the files that it says are necessary to unlock the bootloader. It's just when I type "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" it just sits there saying "waiting for device".
I've tried hansoon's all in one program as well and it didn't work either.
Well that means it cannot find your phone, So the issue lies with the drivers and/or the location from which the command prompt is opened..
Put all of the files into 1 folder called android or adb and move that 1 folder to the root of your C Drive..
This should make navigating easier. Also, In that folder should be adb.exe and fastboot.exe do you have these ?
I fixed this by just playing around with it a bit more. Thanks for the help, though.

Well man, I really wish I could help you out because I remember how frustrating this was for me. This post was 2 and a half years ago though. Just really make sure that your drivers are up to date. If I could remember my exact solution I would help you out for sure.

ok. it was windows 8 not allowing unsigned drivers to install properly. note: not "not installing at all", but "not installing properly". meaning: htc drivers installed somehow, so I was able to see the device and copy files around, but it was not enough for flashing roms.
so I started this guide to disable driver signature:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmw86KplqmU
... but my laptop is a business laptop and this guide demands BitLocker key if hard drive is encrypted (mine is). I also have a windows 7 desktop machine. So I decided to go the easy and quick way of simply doing flashing on my desktop computer. Windows 7 worked like a charm. But I'm sure the guide above would've helped as well. If somebody tries that, please post results.
I've been browsing these forums all night and I for the life of me cannot just find a simple answer. This update came out a while ago and I had no idea about it, so hopefully someone can help me.
Literally, all I'm trying to do is upgrade to 4.2. I've never done anything at all to my phone, it's always been stock. I'm looking for help because the OTA won't work at all, it said I was on 4.1, so it checked for updates and downloaded like a 400mb file, and it turns back on and I'm still at 4.1??
I went to HTC's site and saw that I could just manually install it, but of course it's never that easy. I did all the steps exactly, but when it starts to download and gets to the black HTC screen, my computer always says it doesn't recognize it and can't install drivers (error 170), and then it fails to update. I've tried this on both machines that run windows 8.1. I feel like I've tried everything..I tried running it in different compatibility modes, run as admin, and then I read somewhere that you update it when you're on the fastboot screen. So I tried that but when I'm in the bootloader my computer doesn't recognize my phone at all.
I'm stuck on what to do at this point. I can borrow a computer that has windows 7 on it, if that would help at all. Any help is appreciated!
Not enough info. What carrier version is the device? What region/country are you in? What is your current software number (not Android version).
When you say "manually" update, I think you are talking about RUU. What is the RUU version (file name)?
WIndows 8.1 is probably your main issue with the RUU. Win 8.1 is not compatible with HTC drivers. Anything before 8.1 should work. But again, you need to provide more info.
Hey man thanks a bunch! I should've provided more info, although I just tried it using a windows 7 laptop and it worked with no issues thanks!
Hi, I have a Deco 77x (MediaTek MT6572) and I need to install drivers on my PC to flash a custom ROM.
The drivers are successfully installed but I can't install the last one: "MT65xx Android Phone". I tried reinstalling drivers, rebooting and disabling driver signature enforcing.
I have WinXP Sp3.
Also tried in Win10(Parallels Desktop on my MacBook Pro) with no success, some drivers are not detected in VM.
Is someone knows what can I do?
Thank you!

You're having PC issues, find a PC forum.
This forum is for issues on android, not PC.

Re-tried with another one Windows10 x64 PC(not on VM) yesterday. Same issue. I don't think that it's a PC issue.

Installing drivers on a PC is most definitely a PC thing and not an android thing.
As already stated, find a PC forum and figure out why your driver's won't install on your PC.

Drivers are installed in all my PCs(also Win10 in VM), I can't install the phone.. It's not possible to have same issues in 3 PCs with different OS.

Your issue is with getting the drivers installed on PC, correct?
This is not an issue with something you're doing to the phone itself, it's an issue with getting your PC'S to accept the drivers, that is not an "ANDROID" issue.
A PC forum will help you figure out why your PC's arent accepting the drivers and get them to install correctly.
This forum is for help with things you are doing to your actual android device, not for issues with the systems you are using to interface with your android device.

Ok, but this forum is full of users that have issues with drivers and full of other users that answered and helped to solve.
I do not think it is as bad if I ask here.
My question is for someone that can and wants to help me like in others posts.
Thanks anyway.

Yes, I know driver questions have been asked and answered here before.
My point is you would get better and quicker solution in a PC forum, have it your way though, if you'd gone to a PC forum when I told you, you'd probably already have the solution.
I'm sure you'd rather have a solution as soon as possible, correct? So why not go to where the specialty is PC related issues, the kind of place where they deal with this kind of issue a lot more than it is dealt with here.
Am I making any sense yet? Or are you just refusing to understand?
