8013 PROBLEM with OTG usb on Jelly Bean - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Many of us with JB and 8013's are not able to us OTG devices on our Notes. I tested it yesterday with three different ROMS and none of them supported it. While on 4.0.4(ICS) everything was fine, not one issue. Are there any Devs that could help with this as I am not knowledgeable enough to do it. Thanks a lot!

Yes please, if one understand the working of the otg usb please help us.

Tried These-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2027604- DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE
Also Tried ROMN8000 DR AKRIM ROM N8000XXBLJ9 v06 27112012 Jelly Bean NO GO HERE EITHER
I also tried a stock JB update from Germany, NO GO EITHER.
so for me anything JB related stops OTG from working.

Well, I know you guys want OTG. I was just asking in general. I just wanted a stock JB Rom that is compatible with 8013. I won't be using OTG. Hmmmm stock JB update from Germany....i should try that.

i have an otg cable on the way, so I'll experiment when it arrives.

What are the advantages of using a OTG instead of the micro USB? So you can attach like flash thumb drives?

Otg gives you a supported usb drive.
So you can attach usb keyboard, usb mouse and a flash drive.

or a game pad.

or a umts modem... which is the problem:
I did look at the dmesg output, when I was under ICS mostly because of the current consumption, but also looking for the IR port.
I see now a big difference there, using the German JB 8000 Rom with the 8010 files.
Somewhat (perhaps a Init script) does load the OTG usb kernel modules, then load a usb modem (mif related to umts) and after a while there is a termination of a certain unknown pid, probably because of the modem not responding, which is then unloaded and also does switch off that OTG usb port and unload it's k. modules. Seconds later the whole thing is repeated again and again...
Surely also a reason why it's consuming more power, and probably the reason why other OTG devices have troubles.
I would like to help, but I don't know how android works on that (kernel) level, I had some knowledge about usb on linux 5 years ago, so I don't know how it has evolved.
If someone of you, Dear Rom Backers, could lead me to some (hardcore) knowledge about the whole startup(/wake) process.
I could investigate a bit more.
Other problem I did encounter with JB, somewhere a memory leak, my RAM slowly does fill up in a way, where I can't reset it, without rebooting.

OK I have my otg cable now, and can see the problem, but not the cause.
When I get near to something that can adb in I'll have a look, if anyones' got any pastebins of dmesg and logcat in the meantime please let me know.

this is using the 8000 rom on 8013 and 8010 devices, no idea if the issue is on 8000 devices, or whether it will be there on the 8010/13 firmware.

maybe it's conflict because people are flashing firmware that is not supported on their tablet, i sure hope that is the case.

Absolutely. I have an N8000 using the correct official N8000 JB firmware for the device and USB works perfectly. That's why there are different firmware versions for different devices - simple.
I have a small unpowered USB hub attached to a cheap generic USB OTG connector. I am typing this using a USB wireless keyboard and mouse and I have a Note 10.1 with 160GB of storage. 32Gb internal - 64gb using internal micro-SDXC card and 64gb with a second micro-SDXC in a micro reader attached to the hub (seen as a usb drive 1 so presumably can add more). That's 160gb seamlessly available in all programs for Video, Music, documents and whatever. Eat you heart out fruit-boys!!

Doesn't work on any ICS ROM at the moment - why can't people read the damn threads before posting the same stupid questions over and over again?
Ignore this and see my post below and the ones from Skanob and Dan-Fish

I'm going to ask a really stupid question and risk looking like an arse.
I have read, over and over again, that USB Mass Storage isn't supported under ICS. I'm not actually sure that this is true. Assuming that USB Mass Storage refers to the ability to access your SD-Card by connecting your phone to your PC using a USB cable then it works perfectly with MIUI v4 and I'm fairly sure it worked with Fallout (although I couldn't swear to that).
There was some confusion in the early days as it wasn't supported on the Galaxy Nexus, but this is actually because ICS only supports UBS MSM on devices with removable storage - they won't let you access the 'internal' memory with this process.
If Primo doesn't let you access the SD-Card in that manner then it suggests a problem with Primo - maybe caused by not having the official kernel v3 available to build off?
Ice.Cream Saga is an ICS rom whic fully supports USB Mass Storage.

USB otg.

Otg is the capability to run a mouse, USB and sometimes a hard drive via a micro OTG cable ... are there any roms that has that capability pre installed.??

It is working on stock JellyBean. But for me only 1 of 10 USB drives is working. There is somewhere thread with more info.
Is it a voltage problem? Did the leds light up on the nonworking thumb drives?

The stock firmware is set up to mount external USB disks that are connected via external USB hub.
For CM, I've made a change so it works when connected straight via OTG cable - https://github.com/razrqcom-dev-tea...mmit/cd3c5915f646c6ff34771d0ba39209db1911c130
So on stock, the few USB disks that work without additional USB hub between the phone and the USB disk are the ones that implement their own internal USB hub.

[Q] Any progress concerning USB-OTG on our beloved Optimus 3D?

Hi there!
I just wanted to know, if there are any news concerning the development of a kernel for the Optimus 3D which supports USB on-the-go (OTG).
Is there anyone working on that matter?
Thank you for all your great work!

edit:
I found a kernel from Pesach85 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35531644&highlight=otg+lightning#post35531644) for ICS.
Does this one actually support USB-OTG? Has anyone tried it?

Yet we have some great kernel developers (Pesach85 is one of them) that keep doing excelent job and might get there.

O3d is listed as a compatible device on their site -- http://www.beyondusb.com/compatible . someone needs to test it.
Curiously, LG didn't want to use USB-OTG, and I excepted that it was intentionally disabled by the software, yet USB mass storage is also disabled (much to my dismay). I personally hate MTP, nearly useless for my purposes.
Yet, the OMAP4 CPU have multi-mode USB-OTG host port, so it may have to have it enabled by the registers. LG have rather odd habit of hiding things in the source codes.

Usb power hub and WD HD...

Hey guys..
I have a WD 1tb HD which iz self powered...
I want to use it with my tab 2 p3100
I understand that tab cannot supply enough power to the self powered HD..
I have made a Y-cable for the purpose...
The HD lights up and vibrates indicating that its receiving power but unfortunately it doesn't show up on the tab..
Then I felt the cable might be the reason and I brought a usb power hub...
Its exactly the same situation with the usb power hub as well..
Plze help me out with getting my HD work with the tablet...
I have searched a lot but couldn't get a proper way to get things going...
My tab iz rooted with sungsonic hd v2 running...
USB power hub iz iball lappie...
WD HD uses usb 3 but tab doesn't recognize it with usb 2 cable as well..
Share it if u know it...

You need whether the official Samsung OTG Dongle (expensive) or a OTG Cable you can find almost every where for some buks (Amazon, eBay, ...).
The standard charging Samsung cable is not compatible !
You also need the Y cable if you use a high power/capacity devices you can plug on any USB port such as a Laptop or on the main power supplier if you use a power USB hub that allow it.
Then you need an application that support Fatx, NTFS, and/or HFS such as the Paragon apps (free of charge).
Support for EXT3/EXT4 is another matter as I couldn't find a working one when I was using ICS 4.0.4, but I didn't retried since I'm using Jelly Bean. Maybe there are working now ??? ^^
You can use the same OTG cable to plug any USB keyboard/mouse or any other USB devices if the ROM do support them, or if you use a custom ROM that do support them...

Not necessarily.....
Needed hardware and drivers may be different or lacking.
USB support is defined within the kernel drivers. Native support may be different between Android devices and firmware.
For example, the P6800 4.1.2 JB supports USB for iPhone_4S, P6810 ICS does not. (Only up to iPhone_4)

As I said, it's just an example of USB support from kernel. Although similar, some kernels have various functions enabled, some don't.
Sometimes, changes (for support) need to be hard coded/added at the kernel source or just from config file before compile. This applies also to USB and OTG -A & -B devices.
OT, have enabled USB support for missing iPad & iPhone 5 in upcoming SkyHigh kernel 3.0.0 (untested)

Sorry, I think you missing my point/example.
I am talking about unsupported USB/OTG features and support for various peripherals. Not all are supported with stock kernel.
As a very basic example, take a look at any kernel .config file.
