Hi there!
I just wanted to know, if there are any news concerning the development of a kernel for the Optimus 3D which supports USB on-the-go (OTG).
Is there anyone working on that matter?
Thank you for all your great work!

edit:
I found a kernel from Pesach85 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35531644&highlight=otg+lightning#post35531644) for ICS.
Does this one actually support USB-OTG? Has anyone tried it?

At this time none of the available kernels supports usb otg.
Yet we have some great kernel developers (Pesach85 is one of them) that keep doing excelent job and might get there.
The lg nexus 4 officialy doesn't have otg,but someone made it work. And another BUT.... the only problem is that it can be used with a Y cable, with one end connected to the phone and one to the charger. Not like samsung, though its getting closer.

i ment that LG's do not support OTG Dunno why
Lg doesnt support it but generally the usb controller chip has the capability. Lg just choose not to make use of it.

O3d is listed as a compatible device on their site -- http://www.beyondusb.com/compatible . someone needs to test it.
Curiously, LG didn't want to use USB-OTG, and I excepted that it was intentionally disabled by the software, yet USB mass storage is also disabled (much to my dismay). I personally hate MTP, nearly useless for my purposes.
Yet, the OMAP4 CPU have multi-mode USB-OTG host port, so it may have to have it enabled by the registers. LG have rather odd habit of hiding things in the source codes.

Does the Optimus 3D support USB OTG?
LG's euro site doesn't mention it.
The OMAP4430 supports it. (in fact it only has host USB ports, and USB OTG, no slave only ports)
Also it would be interesting if there was a way to solder up devices to the extra USB host interface, if it isn't already used in the phone.
If the processor does support it, that would be great, but how we will enable it? What I can tell is that the Optimus 3D doesn't support usb OTG since I tried that myself.

Someboby try it??? where can i get the cable?
Regars
I tried it and it does not work It seems that in our kernel has not implemented this feature
Sorry for bad english

i hate LG
very slowly
One thing to try is booting the phone with the proposed usb device already attached (for example flash drive) as in other devices this can allow host mode to engage during startup. I dont have the correct cable to try this.

It's said that USB-OTG method for arc is work for other phones. Can this work on ours?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224676
When comes to this part, seem that we are missing these modules:
su
cd/system/lib/modules/
busybox insmod usbhid.ko
busybox insmod usbmouse.ko
busybox insmod usbkbd.ko
busybox insmod usb-storage.ko

Did anyone manage to make it work? It maybe works on ICS?
OK did some tests and the OTG can't be implented because the MUIC driver /driver/muic/muic_max14526.c ATM can't support it.
I cannot find updated driver in network :/

Bad luck.
I had pinned great hopes on you breaking the USB-OTG deadlock.
Thanks for your efforts.
O3D would have been a complete phone with 3D, HDMI, USB-OTG!

Hi,
A lot has happened since then. A re-look into things, maybe new info( like ported ICS) may change things a bit.!
no harm in trying again!

Has anyone verified that an OTG cable works or not with Chainfire's stickmount on a rooted One X?
Has OTG been removed from the kernel or not?
Some users have commented it's disabled in kernel. I have not verified this but I have verified it works in fastboot. Issue is the port will not supply power, so pretty pointless imo.
Will kernel support allow the usb to provide power, or is getting sd card storage working fruitless?

I've read that it won't supply power, but not sure whether or not that's something we can control in software.

I tried a plain OTG and it didn't work.
I haven't tried it with a Y cable yet though. I'll see when I get home.

I guess one of those expensive wireless solutions is where I'm headed.
hi,
is there a way to enable usb otg for optimus 3d?
Searching would have been very much appreciated.
No. There is not a way to enable it unless the kernel has support.

Otg is the capability to run a mouse, USB and sometimes a hard drive via a micro OTG cable ... are there any roms that has that capability pre installed.??

Hey guys..
I have a WD 1tb HD which iz self powered...
I want to use it with my tab 2 p3100
I understand that tab cannot supply enough power to the self powered HD..
I have made a Y-cable for the purpose...
The HD lights up and vibrates indicating that its receiving power but unfortunately it doesn't show up on the tab..
Then I felt the cable might be the reason and I brought a usb power hub...
Its exactly the same situation with the usb power hub as well..
Plze help me out with getting my HD work with the tablet...
I have searched a lot but couldn't get a proper way to get things going...
My tab iz rooted with sungsonic hd v2 running...
USB power hub iz iball lappie...
WD HD uses usb 3 but tab doesn't recognize it with usb 2 cable as well..
Share it if u know it...

You need whether the official Samsung OTG Dongle (expensive) or a OTG Cable you can find almost every where for some buks (Amazon, eBay, ...).
The standard charging Samsung cable is not compatible !
You also need the Y cable if you use a high power/capacity devices you can plug on any USB port such as a Laptop or on the main power supplier if you use a power USB hub that allow it.
Then you need an application that support Fatx, NTFS, and/or HFS such as the Paragon apps (free of charge).
Support for EXT3/EXT4 is another matter as I couldn't find a working one when I was using ICS 4.0.4, but I didn't retried since I'm using Jelly Bean. Maybe there are working now ??? ^^
You can use the same OTG cable to plug any USB keyboard/mouse or any other USB devices if the ROM do support them, or if you use a custom ROM that do support them...

Not necessarily.....
Needed hardware and drivers may be different or lacking.
USB support is defined within the kernel drivers. Native support may be different between Android devices and firmware.
For example, the P6800 4.1.2 JB supports USB for iPhone_4S, P6810 ICS does not. (Only up to iPhone_4)

As I said, it's just an example of USB support from kernel. Although similar, some kernels have various functions enabled, some don't.
Sometimes, changes (for support) need to be hard coded/added at the kernel source or just from config file before compile. This applies also to USB and OTG -A & -B devices.
OT, have enabled USB support for missing iPad & iPhone 5 in upcoming SkyHigh kernel 3.0.0 (untested)

As already said, at least from Tegra 2 Galaxy Tab there are support for OTG.
If you know any other Samsung devices that don't support it as stock, then specify...
Don't talk about Apple devices as I hate them and don't even want to hear from them...

Sorry, I think you missing my point/example.
I am talking about unsupported USB/OTG features and support for various peripherals. Not all are supported with stock kernel.
As a very basic example, take a look at any kernel .config file.

Can I please get to know how do I get my HD working...?
I have figured out that I'll have to modify my kernal as no existing kernel dev say that they can assure the HD working...
So which files have to be modified ?
