best case for protection vs. drops? - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Ok, going to by this phone for my wife as well as a case for it. Problem is, she drops her old phone like crazy and I've had to replace her cheap plastic case on it probably 6 times in the past 2 years.
So what is the most protective case for this phone vs. drops? I've tried looking around, but only see some cheap flimsy cases as well as the Otterbox Commuter. Anything else? Is the Otterbox a pretty protective case?

I like my Otterbox Commuter. I'd say of all the cases available (that I've seen) it will protect it the best.
With that said, I used to have an iPhone 4s with an Otterbox Defender case - and this commuter case does not come close to protecting as well as the Defender case. But, because of the sliding keyboard I'm not sure a Defender-style case would work.
Or at least put the same grippy rubber material on the Commuter case.... That's probably my biggest complaint with the Commuter case, it makes the device slippery instead of grippy.
Regardless, I don't think you'll find a more protective case than the Commuter.

Agreed, I dont think you will find a more protective case than the otterbox. That being said, I dropped my photon Q about 2 feet with the otterbox commuter and the clip on the corner of the screen protector broke so now plastic ring for the screen sits on there still but one corner is flimsy. I can see with more drops eventually the clips will all break and I will be forced to buy another otterbox. The price you pay I guess.

[Q] Innocase Active x vs. Otterbox Commuter

They both seem good but which one provides the best protection for the Epic?
I believe the Otterbox does. But its way too thick and ugly. Id stick with the Active X case just because it already provides good protection, in a slimmer more stylish way.
I've seen several people says the Otterbox clips scratch the keyboard and need to be broken off. That's why the seideo cases have their clips at the top and bottom rather than the sides.
I have the Otterbox Commuter and it's pretty good.
It does add a little bit of bulk to the phone, but it is well protected.
And it certainly does NOT clip the slide-out keyboard or anything like that...everything on it fits like a glove. The top half (bezel) has one side that is chamfered to avoid any possible contact when sliding out the keyboard. Maybe someone else put that bezel on backwards, or they revised the Otterbox for the Epic.
Overall, I'm happy with it...and it came with a good screen protector as well.
My colleagues use the Innocase and it's a great product. It has saved their phones from breaking from being dropped (and in one case thrown) around and landing on marble floors.
I am not sure how great it is for repelling water. I'm assuming that the Otterbox would be better for that.
seido causes scratches also :-(

I just ordered a Seido case since the cheap one i bought at a mall kiosk clips' broke on the front protector. How bad are teh scratches?
I have the active X case the case clips for teh back of the phone clip onto the metallic looking part of the phone so I don't see where scratches would occur. The clips for the face protector is at the extreme top and bottom of the phone as well so I don't see any scratches on my phone.
I think Otterbox is the best protection but they seem too bulky and ugly to me.
Ugly wtf its a case....... and its not bulky its just a little husky

love my seido case. adds just the right amount of bulk to the phone.
I also like the belt holster for the Active X case. I usually carry my phone there rather than in my pocket. No way the Otterbox would fit comfortably in my pocket.
I have the Otterbox and my wife has the Innocase.
The Otterbox has given me no trouble while my wife's Innocase has broken 2 clips without having ever pulled it off.
Plus the Otterbox comes with a screen protector.
again. ugly wtf?
I have the otterbox and it doesn't scratch up keyboard. And it protects well from drops. And if its bulky or "husky" that just makes it a tight fit into your pocket and les likely to drop I with good grip. And on the terms of protecting your phone I suggest getting the flygrip as well if you text one handed often

Case Review: Incipio Feather Case

Hey guys,
Just bought the Incipio Feather case and wanted to share my thoughts in case some people were thinking about buying.
The case is definitely very light weight and pretty thin (Incipio states that it is less than 1 mm thin). It's an "ultra light, ultra strong polymer" hard case that is smooth to the touch while having a slightly rubbery feel to it. The case itself has very clean edges with no trace of any manufacturing defects. There are cutouts for the power and volume buttons, hdmi port (it's covered in the pictures on their site, but there is indeed a cutout for this), usb port, camera, microphone, headphone jack, and speakerphone. With the exception of the battery, everything is easily accessible through these cutouts.
As for protection, this is where I've been disappointed. First off, the side of the case does not rise above the side of the phone, so when you put the phone face down, the screen will be touching the surface (they provide a screen protector, but I don't think that's enough). Secondly, the case does not completely wrap around the phone, so both the top and, more importantly, the bottom of the phone are exposed. The bottom is important because on a straight drop, the pointed part of the phone will take all of the impact because it protrudes beyond the corner parts of the case. The top isn't as bad because it's flatter, so the corner portions of the case will ideally take the impact. Granted, you aren't purchasing a "feather" or "barely there" case for its protective qualities, but I think that had Incipio manufactured the case to fully wrap around the phone, both the protection and aesthetics of the case would have been enhanced.
In regards to the aesthetics, I purchased the case to avoid the bulkiness of other cases so that I could enjoy the look of the phone. However, the cutouts and the fact that the case doesn't fully wrap around the phone cause the Feather case to "break" the smooth lines of the phone. I would definitely prefer the look of a case that fully wraps around the phone.
Overall, I would not purchase this case again. At $25, even with the screen protector and microfiber cloth, I think that a case like the Androidified case that I previously reviewed provides better value with more protection. With the TPU case, my phone experienced no damage after I accidentally dropped the phone while getting out of a car. I can't say that the Feather case would provide the same sort of protection.
Thanks for the review, this was my favorite case when I had my Atrix. I noticed it on the site the day it went up but did not buy it because an employee confirmed over live chat that there was no hdmi cutout. Now that I know it is there I am placing an order now. I just bought the otterbox and I like it but its just too much for me.
This is almost the same exact case as this:
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessory?action=accessoryDetails&accessoryId=47557
But yours is probably a tiny bit thinner. And this one has a pull out stand which is awesome. They tried to sell this hardcore when i bought the phone, and I got it then.

The Incipio also doesn't have those rubber ridges. I had one of these cases on my Thunderbolt and I hated it because I keep my phone in my pocket. Went with a Case-Mate Barely There case which seems to be similar to the Incipio.
It reminds me of an ultra light 1 piece Seidio innocase. It has a similar feel but its lighter and thinner.
After using this case for a few days I have to agree. This case is not worth it at all. The feather used to be my choice but incipio did not do well with this one.
I'm really hoping case-mate jumps on it and makes a barely there case for the Charge.

Yeah same here. I went back to my Otterbox case but I just ordered the Trident Aegis today. I would rather have a thin light case but this feather is just plain terrible.
Why you going with Trident Aegis..instead of just using the Otterbox?
Just curious on your thoughts on the Otterbox..did you get the Trident? How is it?
The Otterbox is a good case but I am not too sold on having the buttons on the bottom covered. The Trident case shipped today and I will post pics and a review of the Aegis when it comes.

Diztronix experts: TPU vs hard case?

I'm trying to decide between the matte black TPU case and the hard case from Diztronix. What are the pluses and minuses on each?

Well I have the Matte black Case From Diztronic...Its perfect to me...feels great...fits right and looks very good...but just pick the case you like best my friend bcuz thats all that matters...
I was on their site for a brief moment after seeing the review for the TPU case (ordered one, it looks like a good case!) and saw the hard case as an option, so checked out the pictures.
Biggest difference is that being a hard case, it can't flex to put the phone in, so the top/bottom bits are missing like many other cases. That was the biggest reason I went for the TPU since it has protection all around.
Tpu vs hard case.
TPU is a tad thicker, but provides more protection. All corners are covered.
Hardcase is thinner and does not provide coverage on the top of the phone and bottom.
I have the TPU, and hardcase coming in on Monday. I opted for the hardcase because of the option to put it into my GNex Seidio Surface case. The tpu is too thick and makes the phone too long to fit so hoping this will fit and be my weekend warrior.
Saying all that, I currently got my LG Nexus Bumper. And I have to say I do like it a lot. I actually had one but since sold it when I first got the phone because using the bumper, the phone would not fit in any of my universal cases at the time.
I got the Diztronic tpu and had that and was quite happy with it. Seeing a few threads about the Seidio holster possibility, I went and bought the hard case because I already have the Seidio Surface spring holster. Between all of that happening, I finally got my bumper case and fell in love with the bumper all over again. Thinking I was going to sell it again because I couldn't find a decent holster to house the phone, I tried putting the phone with the bumper into my universal vertical belt holster which fit the phone and tpu case.
To my disbelief and amazement, the phone actually fit! The Diztronic stretched the the case enough where the bumper can pretty much slide in without an issue!
Well sorry for the long a$$ story, but this is what I had personally gone through so far. Not to mention getting yet another case, the Nillkin flip case. Not sure if I am going to keep it though. I may just sell it to another person here or ebay.

Pelican Case for the Note 4 through AT&T

I've been using it since day one and I absolutely love it. Pelican makes top of the line cases for many applications. This is the first phone case I've owned. I don't see any reason to buy an otterbox. This case truly nails it. Google for general pictures. I can take some if needed.
It also has a removable screen protector, and holster that can be used as a stand.
I had the Pelican case for a week. It's ok. It doesn't have port covers or the outer jacket that's on the otterbox.
I saw this case at the AT&T store its definitely no OtterBox and its priced exactly the same

Alternative to Otterbox Commuter?

My Pixel XL should be here any day. (back ordered from verizon for 2 months).
On my past few phones I've used Otterbox commuter and had good success. I don't mind the bulk of the commuter as I feel like it's a good trade-off for the protection.
That being said, I need to get a case for my pixel xl asap and would like something that provides similar protection to the commuter....suggestions? I ordered the spigen tough armor.
Any other suggestions for one that provides otter box commuter (no built in screen protector) like protection without the otter box price (and more color choices)?

I use this with a tempered glass screen protector.

Thanks guys,
The trident case says unavailable. But, do you think it is as protective as the otterbox commuter?
Regarding the iblassen, also do you feel like it is as protective as the commuter?
I guess it really hard to tell from the pics of cases on Amazon. The otterbox commuter has a really thick and somewhat stiff runner inside and a plastic shell that snaps on the back. Just looking for something with that same level of protection without paying $50 for a case and then need a few color options for my wife's pixel xl (otterbox only had a couple colors)
The iblasson, for me, is protective. The back is a plastic with the edges and interior being rubber/silicone something like that. The edges are pretty thick and the corners are even thicker with cut outs that allow for compression of the rubber/silicone if it lands on the corner to cushion the blow. I would feel confident if I dropped from the hip and pretty confident if I dropped from head level. It also has a pretty good lip to account for glass down drops. Hope this helps.

Thanks, any other suggestions?
Ahent, some iblasson's have a built in screen protector, which I don't want. The one you linked to does not have the built in, correct?
Have you compared the iblasson you have to an otter box or spigen tough armor?
No built in screen protector on the one I linked to, I hate those. The only other case I have had on this phone is the caseology parallax, which I really liked, but wasn't very protective or maybe better phrasing would be not as protective as the Iblasson. I mainly ended up with Iblasson because it had a holster and I like holsters. Usually I use seido cases because of the holsters (typically the surface) but they didn't have one at the time I got my phone but I think they have one now.

The Speck is pretty protective but will still at you back $30 on Amazon. It has a tendency to become a little loose early on but doesn't seem to get progressively worse. A lot of people don't seem to mind it, but I did. The tough armor is a decent solution. Probably as protective as the OtterBox for a fraction of the price. Be aware, cases like the Spigen with the small cutouts around the laser autofocus are prone to dust buildup which will interfere with the cameras autofocus. Make a point to keep it clean or buy a case like the Ottetbox with a much larger cutout.
Spigen has great products. I have used Otter before. You can not go wrong with Spigen.

I use the High Pro Shield and love jt
My favorite is Seidio. They've two levels of protection. The SURFACE line is most similar to the commuter, and i think better. I prefer the DILEX line for the corner bumpers though. https://www.seidioonline.com/shop/?device=pixel-xl&style=
