I'm not quite sure if you've seen the news going on, so that's why I post it here.
Acer confirmed an update to Android 4.2 on our A700's!
Yay
yes but it's been sheduled for spring 2013.
actually I don't really see a need for 4.2. The only thing that is awesome are the lockscreen widgets. I don't care about Multiuser, they only cause issues.
Spring... SPRING?! Holy crap, where did you get that? Where I read the news didn't apply for a date or time of the year.
Yeah, don't care about the multiuser too.
Good news!
Always good to hear that development is ongoing. Too bad that yesterday i unlocked my bootloader, a lot of extra work. But i don't mind:laugh:
That's someting else as with my lg3d. I've got tired from waiting, thankfully a dev (xbsall) ported a korean JB rom. So with that in mind, i'm happy with spring!
I can't wait for multiuser support because somebody always changed my settings when I get some time to use my a700
i hope this be real to take a good kernel in cm10.1
In that case, shouldn't it come to the A510 too?
Where did you see that? I can't fond this news.
Well they better release 4.2.2. than 4.2 or 4.2.1, else they'll have to work around too many bugs...
Has anyone heard anything solid on this lately? I looked around a bit but haven't seen anything.
I'm about to get very experimental on my A700 but I will hold off if there will be an update.
I've heard nothing. It'd be nice to have a 4.2.2 rooted stock, though.

nothing. Acer's being slow.
I'm using CM 10.1 now it's awesome but I still miss a few features from Stock though like Dolby Mobile.
Other than the multi-user aspect, which some folk want, 4.2+ is no huge thing. I'd have been happier if my Nexus 7 never received it. Battery life suffered and there was no performance boost.
I rooted my tablet to get Titanium Backup Pro so I could transfer all the data from my Acer A500. Now when I go to System Update I get the "Error message: This system update is not allowed on your device. Please call the serice centre for help."
Is this becasue it is rooted I will not get the OTA updates? Any other way to get them, or is there anything newer than 4.1.1. and Build number Acer_AV 051.A700_1.-52.00_PA_CUS1
I want to stay with official software not custom, thanks.

Right. This is why my Nexus 7 is on SmoothROM 4.1 and I'm really happy with it.

Install Voodoo OTA Rootkiller and you can temporarily remove root and then you can get your OTA update. Then you can restore root with the click of a button!

Hi. I've sent last week an email to Acer support Spain asking for news about upgrades. And they don't have any new.
Do you think that Acer has left to update the a700's?
Enviado desde mi A700 usando Tapatalk 4
If Acer didn't release the update by now, I'm sure they cancelled it. I hate it when companies lie like that. Fortunately we have xda and CM with Android 4.3, but still... Not really trusting Acer right now.
Of course. The A700 is a device that sold too few units, it doesn't make sense from a business standpoint to develop updates. They just delivered 4.1 shortly after release to iron out the bugs and performance issues, that was it. So next time, buy a device that is sure to be sold very successfully - only these have a realistic chance of long-term updates.

True and I would have totally get that if they didn't promise things that were never going to happen, right? Anyways, I'm really satisfied with CM with 4.3 now, so you don't hear me complaining. I only discovered a double scratch on the screen out of nowhere. I can't think of anything that happened with it that could have damaged the screen. I kept it at home for the last few months in a sleeve, so yeh. Ah well.

Use ICS or hate the device...
Do not remove native apps, disable then in the Application sections of the configuration, otherwise you won't be able to apply any further OTA update in your device (altough, after ICS 4.0.4, it is very unlikely that Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 ME will be updated, I would love to be proved wrong on this subject altough)...

...And the Photon Q is still slated to get Jelly Bean (4.1)! Though it doesn't have an estimated time like some of the other more 'popular' devices they have.

Without a time estimation other than the 'it will get it', I'd say we're looking at June/July or later.

i always buy the phones that get neglected i guess we may have to wait a bit. i agree tho ^, my device is running great, no problems, and loving the keyboard. great battery life too, since i switched to CDMA-only anyway.

Ha, dude, I hear ya. I've had the exact same problem. Only phone I got that was well supported was teh original Motorola Droid. Since then, it was Droid Charge, which was ignored by everything, HTC Rezound, which had decent enough support, but nothing great, and now this thing. I just can't get a break.
Still waiting for a new OTA. Have been switched back to the Evo Shift for more than a month now. I may just go with a Galaxy Note 2.

Lol, I find it kind of irksome when the carrier gets you on a 2-year contract, and then stops updating the device after 7 months. That's basically what happened to the Sidekick 4g and the My touch 4g Slide.

I just got a notification for an update for today too (77.8.14.XT897.Sprint.en.US)
According to the release notes it's "Various fixes and enhancements to improve overall device stability." I'm willing to be there's some other stuff in there to make it harder for us to actually *use* our phones. (like how the one from November silently broke bluetooth tethering...)

I'm unlocked, rooted, deOdexed, & modded so I don't want it (unless anyone can confirm it won't affect any of that).
Any quick way to do away with the notice and have it not come back? Maybe edit the build.prop?

Just installed here too. Verified still 4.0.4 so no JB. Nothing obvious for sure and it seems to be running the same to me.
I've been searching all over and ive found nothing. It's the begining of a new year and I'm starting to think we're not getting a lollipop update anymore..
I always believe all model branded by us carriers will get any update last of all other makes.
Yeah, it's been that way pretty much with every phone I've ever owned. I wish phone manufactures wouldn't allow carriers to intervene. But at least usually an international ROM is ported over to the us models.. I wish someone would do that
I just want it to come so i can get the latest cloudy.
Right. That's the ROM I wanted to use.
Custom Roms.
That's why we use custom roms. The unofficial cyanongen is a good substitute for a lollipop update.

Really??? When have you ever known AT&T to let anyone know about an update until it is in process? I think we will get an L update for two reasons. AT&T has always seemed to allow at least one major upgrade of versions and the phone is barely 6 months old.
Besides that, the rollout of L for international G3s started less than 2 months ago. U.S. carriers typically take time to "test" (i.e. install their bloatware and figure out how to lock down the phone) the new updates.
Yeah I'm getting very fed up with all this too... I use liquidsmooth in the meantime and it works great, but I just miss the LG camera... Also other features but mainly the camera... I had the nexus 5 before this phone and I loved the timely updates... Too bad it don't work the same with this phone...

I was being a little over dramatic. I know eventually we'll get an update, but instead of trying to add all that bloat and strip things from the software they should be trying to get it out for the users as soon as possible.

Unfortunately this is the case with all android phones and tablets. The latest and greatest hits the Nexus lines first. Other phones are at the mercy of the phone manufacturer (as well as the carriers in some cases).
With all the custom roms and cm12 for our phone right around the corner. Who needs an official bloated at&t L Rom. Custom roms run so much better than stock anyway. .....and L is good but very over rated K.K. 4.4.4 is working great. Be patient you will get your stock at&t L by the latest March

Update today I got a notification to update I am ON stock d85010d
I have the phone a week this was my 1 st notification I wonder if this is the 10f or something else I haven't rooted yet. Did anyone else get this today and if so what is it ?
It's 10f I got the notice today as well. If you are rooted it will not break root.
I believe it'll come to us soon but I can care less if the update comes. I'm fine with what were using now.
the only problem with all the Lollipop Roms we currently have is that the camera app sucks, we loose 4K recording, Laser Focus, Slow motion and front facing flash. Plus the quality of the pictures is not even near to the quality of the stock camera.
1cwolf has been rooting the stock roms and tweaking them I am sure he will do the same when L drops. He is making debloated ver also. That's prob what I'll stick with cause the stock Rom does run very good. I always get better WiFi with stock roms more powerfull WiFi signal

What size was the 10F update? I am betting that is a small update before lollipop comes in...
let's not forget...the AT&T G2 was one of the first phones to get KitKat. Besides Nexus devices are there any other devices with Lollipop? LG is moving pretty quick to get the international version of Lollipop out. Where is Samsung and HTC with Lollipop for their devices?

I'm currently on CleanROM 1.5 (5.0.2), but this whole StageFright bug thing is pretty serious. I'm considering unrooting and taking an update from Verizon should one be available. Of course that update might not come out for another couple years (ha ha), and doing so would most likely make my phone unrootable in the future.
So rooted users! Should the devs not find a solution for StageFright on VZW rooted ROMs, will you upgrade or chance not plugging this major security hole?
No way. I trust that our devs are amazing enough to incorporate new updates into old basebands/kernels

Same here it affects my physical and mental health. Every time it becomes laggy my stress and anxiety level goes up.
It has reported about extreme performance improvement over lollipop
All the last weeks since the leak of the beta MM releases, I read so much about trouble, problems, rollback and even more trouble...
Luckily I stayed on LP! So I guess it will still need some time - if they eveb haven't dropped it...
As almost at every company - only the model releases are important and care. Mate 7 is already long time past having dust on it! It's no more important for them on the market-battle...

I think when they decide to start working and finish the last 5% of the work
it will go kind of fast, the problem is the project has been put a side because other models are more prioritized obviously.
It is a stupid strategy to leave something 95% done and not finish it, it is a waste of resources it does also upset their customers.
They need to realize... about 8 million people are affect and will suffer mentally and physically because of the lack of software dedication.

i feel equally frustrated as you are,
but don't forget they are giving excellent phones at half price compare to other manufacturers :good:
remember lollipop upgrade it was released almost after a year, this time they started beta test earlier because i believe this will be the last update for this phone and they don't want any bug.
in past i never bought a huawei phone just because lack of updates, this time they looked much promising, as they have released MM for some phones, so don't lose hope.
as they have provided official MM downgrade packages, i doubt final version will be delayed.
It will be like last time. When Android N is released they will release Marshmallow .. So that we can be one version behind always.
