Hi.
HTC J Butterfly testdevice 1.10.970.3 system/kernel/cidblock(mmcblk0p5) dumpfile

Please use it if you like.
Hi, I went to the link you posted and on that page there was a link to an unlock guide for the J Butterfly.
I'm not to knowledgeable about this kind of thing but looking through both the unlock guides they seem identical.
Can someone confirm that the unlock technique and guides for the DNA and the J Butterfly are the same?
Here is the link for the J Butterfly unlock guide (they even say it is borrowed from the DNA guide)

Here is the link for the Droid DNA unlock guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34583031
Any help would be appreciated because I tend on getting this phone in the next few days and would like to unlock/root and hopefully backup my phones ROM so I can start playing around.
Thank you.
Sorry to bump this but I am wondering if anyone can give me some insight. Please.

One problem, HTC J Butterfly are locked to japanese operator. So u wont be able to use it in other country then Japan.
I don't care if I can only use it in Japan. I just want to be able to root and be able to backup my rom and install custom roms and mods. ^_^

Well, just tried the DNA method and ran into an error. The guy (jcase) behind the DNA unlock looked into it for a short while and will hopefully figure it out. Until then, looks like we're stuck. In that Japanese link, it seems like they got it to work...but I'm not so sure, so I left a comment and maybe that will bring up something.
That method above didn't work for me either
got into stuck as others did when I tried to write mmcblk0p5
dd if=/sdcard/CIDBLOCK.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5
/dev/block/mmcblk0p5: cannot open for write: Permission denied
Can I ask where you guys got your J butterflies?
I live in Osaka and they are not on sale here yet.

great
looking forward to the report whether it's bootloader is unlockable or not
im glad to see people discussing this phone as it looks and feels amazing. if anyone finds a safe and easy method to root please share! thanks
Does any one think that xda will open its own forum for this phone?
I hope some of the big dogs on here get this phone because it's so slick. Even determined iPhone users admit how beautiful this phone is!

I don't think so..... since the device is too much customized for Japan use.

No unlock yet. HTCdev site doesn't work, and jcase method doesn't work either. Believe me, I'm looking in many places for any clues on how to progress with the Butterfly!

Probably no separate forum for this device, I would like one as well. I may open up a thread myself once unlock is possible and the RUU becomes available.
I'm no big dog, but I'm trying to learn.

I believe you need to give some more information for anyone to help. What did you try, where did it fail, any error messages, etc.
Also read through some of the one-click root thread, and you will find common issues and fixes. In particular, disable any firewalls, disable HTC Sync, and kill any existing adb.exe processes.

The only pain is for all you crack flashers that flash 5 roms a day (which is ridiculous)....and not having s off doesn't make it that much more time consuming to flash a Rom , all the roms have a boot IMG script that does all the commands for you , so if you already have fastboot and adb on your cp (wich you should if you flash roms) it is a minor issue ....
Sent from me
I got my answer from someone who owns both the gnex and the one s. The galaxy nexus rules. US crack flashers like to be able to flash whenever we want to or when we need to. Especially if I am away and a ROM isn't running as it should or if a kernel is buggy it's always nice to be a crack flasher. Opinions are like assholes.

Can anyone help? I have downloaded a new update to the HTC One S which is the new Sense 4.1 and the jelly bean update. Now I tried to install but
kept rebooting me into bootloader. I tried to Root my phone once and managed to unlock my bootloader but wasnt able to install a working recovery on my phone so I just relocked the bootloader. So What Im looking to do is either to find someone to help me root my phone by helping unlock my relocked bootloader and help me to fully root my phone and to install a new rom or to help me install the new update on my One S.
My Device is an S3 chipset. I think ofcourse, as my Cpu runs to up to 1.7 mhz... Can anyone help me do one or the other?

My advice for you is to go at a MobileServiceCenter and for aprox 15 euro you can get this job done. Also, for sure you don't have Jelly Bean, but just the last version of 4.0.4. ICS with 4.1 Sense for S3 One S.

OK good luck. You could just read a bit, since I have spent hours making a guide or two, many others such as Ronnie and redpoint have spent hours putting guides and grouping all the info here and Devs have spent countless hours creating roms and discovering root methods. You can take some time to read the information and attempt to understand. If something is unclear or you don't quite understand then you can ask questions and I'm sure many people will be glad to help!

it's not that no one here is willing to help you out, you just need to know what you're doing before you do anything because of the huge risks you take in the unlocking process. if you're not willing to put in the time to read about everything before you ask questions and ask for hand-holding, then you should reconsider unlocking.
Here's some material to start with
Sticky #3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232141 (pay attention to rule 1)
Sticky #4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754018
The unlocking thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283760 - read this 5 times over before you actually do anything. and follow each instruction VERY carefully.
Once you're done unlocking: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2286587
Lastly, people are here to help each other, not babysit you through unlocking. If you ask nicely, someone may decide to help you through it. We've all put in hours into reading and researching and searching for answers. Work like this on a phone requires a base level of knowledge so you should strive to learn enough so that you're able to do what you need to in order to unlock your phone. Also, a post like this belongs in the Q&A subforum.
Good luck!

It looks like you are the one being much too eager to jump down someone's throat. All Arrow44 did was inform the OP that he posted incorrectly (and also asked him to describe his problem further, so he could try to help). Its pretty clear the OP thought he was typing in the "Message" area, when in fact he was typing in the title instead.
Nothing Arrow44 typed was even close to a flame or attack.
Arrow44 is completely correct in that we need MUCH more information, if we are to have any hope of helping the OP. For instance:
1) update by RUU or OTA?
2) What firmware version are you trying to update to?
3) Is the phone modded? Is it rooted? Bootloader unlocked? Custom recovery?
4) Any error messages?
5) What state is the phone in? Does it still boot into Android, or is it stuck on the boot screen?
Moved to Q&A.
Let's all just calm down, it's much too beautiful a day for arguing.
@ OP, can you describe your issue a bit better? (see redpoint's questions)
