alternate keyboards reset to as-built on device restart
As of today, 1 October 2013, all alternate keyboard reset
to as-built default on power-off or device restart.
I used to use SwiftKey as an alternate keyboard.
SwiftKey continues to work as expected.
HOWEVER ...
If you power off or restart your device, it resets to the default,
as-built keyboard instead of whichever alternate keyboard I
have installed.
I've tried multiple alternate keyboards.
They all get reset on power-off or restart
so the trouble is not with SwiftKey.
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note (i717).
My carrier is AT&T.
This might be a problem with Android 4.1.2 itself.
It might be a problem with the Samsung "enhancements".
It might be a problem with the AT&T "modifications."

I believe that's an app issue because I installed 4.1.2 before and I was able to use fb and twitter without any problems.

Hi.
Major issues with Market. Nothing downloading. Just the bar and starting download message.
Tried force stop, cache cleaning, reboots. No joy.
Ideas?
After new FB and Twitter apps.

i've had this issue quite a bit on my incredible. usually cures itself by switching from wifi to 3g or the other way around. whichever you're on right now, try the other one.
Done that Mike. No change.

Go to applications market and uninstall updates.
Works fine here....
No updates to uninstall for the Market. Came as is.
I switched from Dinc to Droid X recently and encountered this problem pretty much out of the box. I believe I ended up clearing cache or data from the Gmail application and then Market downloads started to work correctly.
I just went to update an app that i have and Market Force Closed.
still downloaded ok though
I have a funny feeling this was an all around Android Market issue for many people... I had it too but now it seems to have cleared up...
You could try Titanium backup and the clear data option after tapping the market app.
It worked for me
my fix for this exact same problem (as described in the OP's first post) was to factory reset my phone (galaxy s) and log in using the @googlemail.com extension to my google email address instead of the usual @gmail.com
if that makes sense.. search google for a few other threads floating around with people who solved their market download "stalling" with this fix..
might be worth a try for you anyway.
So... Lets just say I found this somewhere...
megaupload.com/?d=NMUVLKSZ
It is the new Gmail update (Gmail 2.3.5) with the signature permissions removed. All the widgets and apps that used the Gmail content provider are now able to read it again.
Instructions:
1. Uninstall Gmail (I usually clear data then uninstall)
2. Uninstall any app that needs to connect to the content provider. (Any app that stopped working after the Gmail update.)
3. Reboot phone.
4. Install the APK from above. (Gmail 2.3.5 with normal permissions)
5. Install your apps back.
NOTE: Google did change around labels somewhat. So just an FYI if some apps still dont work. They may not be able to tell what is unread. But I am guessing most apps just went for the unread count which still should be there.
NOTE2: You have to uninstall the other apps because of the way android asks for permissions. It may only do it once... I am not positive.
NOTE3: Good luck... This is all reversible as you should not even need root to do it. (I have not tested an unrooted phone) But I dont see why it wouldnt work. I am not responsible for your bad judgement.
Let me know if this works for others. I have tested it on my app Labelert.com and it seems to be working after I made a slight update to the unread label.
P.S. Sorry I cant post direct links yet.
Follow me gsarrica on twitter.
I won't have time to try this for a while, but I thanked you for this. Here's a working link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NMUVLKSZ
Thanks.. when I get on my PC ill click ur 'thanks' button.

EDIT: I followed your instructions and BAMB everything is now working again! The only thing I had that pulled my gmail info was a little widget named 'Gmail Unread Count' the paid version.
I don't understand why Windozs Phone has an unread count tile, but a Google Android phone doesn't have anything like that. We have to rely on 3rd party developers, and now with this latest update, Google breaks it!
DAMN GOOGLE!
Glad to see it is working for you guys also. This at least gives us some time to find a real workaround.
fix for gmail 2.3.5 not working with 3rd party apps
correct me if i'm wrong but if you uninstall the google 2.3.5 update and roll back to previous version...backup and uninstall the 3rd party app (launcher pro) that was effected...reboot your device... and last , re-install and restore your 3rd party app ( launcher pro ) then in theory, the gmail widget and unread counter should be working!? Doesn't that seem correct?? Or has this already been tried out?

Yes if you roll back all will work fine. But if you want 2.3.5 you can go this route and be updated with everyone else. Why roll back when there is a working 2.3.5?
Thanks for posting this - I was intentionally not upgrading to 2.3.5 because it broke slidescreen, but it looks like SlideScreen might never be fixed http://larvalabs.com/blog/android/the-end-of-slidescreen/
Edit: Hmm it doesn't seem to let me install it on my EVO 4g with Gingerbread (HTC Stock ROM, rooted). I have the previous gmail version installed (2.3.4.1 i believe), and when I try to install the package, it just notifies me that it was unable to be installed

Is there a copy of Gmail 2.3.5.2 around like this?
EDIT: Never mind, I followed -> http://koxx3.wordpress.com/create-y...-allowing-content-sharing-with-external-apps/ and that worked.
This would be amazing except I have two issues:
1. I have no option to uninstall Gmail in Manage Apps.
2. If I try and install it anyway, it fails...
Any ideas or updated versions?

If your rooted you can uninstall with titanium back up. Then it should install apk. Also make sure your settings allow install from non-market sources.
Also should back up old gmail app first too.

The mega upload link does not seem to be working for me. Could some attach it to the thread or repost it?
Running updated, rooted, stock. Performed entitlement check hack for tethering. Tether works great. But now a number of things are happening.
1) error "process com.motorola.service.main" fc
2) error "process com.motorola.socialservice" fc
3) play store cannot download
4) screenlock not there
multiple other fc's
Have reverted entitlement check back to 1 and still happening.
Any ideas?
Screen lock not there? Like a blank screen?
And a quick google search from my end is not showing this hack for atrix 2. I'm only seeing it for OG atrix and bionic.
Little more info? The more you give the better we can help you. A link to the thread where you got the "hack" would be helpful as well. It helps to know what the mod actually modifies.
Hack came from xda atrix2 dev forum.
When I press the power button to wake device, it goes straight to home screen. No "Slide to unlock" screen.

ok, have you tried to set the settings back to what they were originally?

Its a very common issue with google play store, what you have to do is go to manage app/all apps/google play store and uninstall updates
Now your old market will be restored launch it accept anything it says after it loads everything close it go again to all apps and to market this time and clear data and cache and perform a reboot.
After reboot launch market and hit my apps you should see your preinstalled apps in the list.
Now download 2-3 apps from market and in 10 mins it will be automatically updated to google play and you'll be able to download apps from Google play.
This method was assisted by Google support team to me when i had this problem so give it a try.
First thing I did was revert to original.
Uninstalled Play Store updates. Stopped the install crashes but installs start and just stop with no message. All other errors still happening. Seems to be something to do with google log in( I'm guessing). I'm reluctant to remove the google account because I don't want to lose all the work I've put in so far.
Any other ideas?
Might be time to flash the fxz, if you didn't make CWM backup.

After much deliberation (and frustration) I have rolled back to 2.3.5. I've decided to wait for ICS. Thanks to Jim and the device team. For the work they are doing.

wait... were you on ICS? And you were able to FXZ back to 2.3.5? Or you were on 2.3.6?
I have the entitlement check disabled on ICS for tethering and haven't had any new problems introduced. Have a feeling maybe something else happened here.
Hey I was wondering if anyone else has had apps install by themself, over the past few days a couple of apps have somehow showed up on my home screen. They don't show up under the app drawer or under apps in settings. Also ever since these started coming thru I keep getting notifications for other stuff like "lose belly fat" and "job offers starting at $325 and hour". I'm currently running aokp m6 if it helps. I've done a full wipe and it stopped for a day and then came back. I'll post some screen shots of the apps.
P.s. the ones installing automatically are the last three above the PayPal widget.

I too had some Apps install on their own. But they were apps I had before I attempted a NANDROID Restore, which for some odd reason failed and killed my Boot. So I was forced to re-flash my stock boot/ROM on my S3 (AT&T Flavor) and repeat the Rooting process. But once I started looking through my app drawer, some of these apps were being re-installed. Odd, perhaps some internal back-up that I'm not aware of on ICS.
Yea these are random apps that aren't even from the play store. When I click on them they open the browser and take me to a page to sign up for a subscription.

Have you installed recently any pirate app? An app not bought or downloaded from Android market?
I saw some apps that installs a patch that brings/installs apps and shortcuts on your cellphone. Tô solve this Just delete the program or patch and use an antivirus Just in case...
Good luck

I'm having this issue but its legit apps keep "updating" themselves baxk after I uninstall them
ie: bbm, flashify, (more I can't think off atm)
Some of the apps has Adware build in it, which means if you download the App, it will spam your Home screen full.
You can fix this problem by manually delete it everytime, to fix it permantly you need to delete the app.

Are you sure you uninstalled the right one?
also do you have any virus on your phone? I don't think this is the problem though.

Yes multiple times
Today I went as far as deleting history of them being installed in the app store... Waiting to see if they are back tomorrow
Update: still happening. Resorting to auto update off and still having to stop installs... Something to do with rebooting, or its triggering it
I'm having problems with quite a few apps either stalling, force-closing, or just being unstable after receiving the OTA 4.1.1 upgrade. One example that comes to mind is the Smartactions app (which worked fine with 4.0.4, but now force closes and won't let me make some changes).
Is this an app problem (which might be resolved when the apps themselves update to support 4.1.1), or is this a 4.1.1 build problem on Motorola's end (as though they released a sh!tty update that makes apps unstable)?

I'm no expert but I'd expect this to be an app issue for two reasons:
1) The apps were created for 4.0.4. If you are noticing this problem with a Jellybean app (like Google Now for instance) it would make more sense that it's an android issue but since you're talking about smart actions I'd think it's likely just bad compatability between the app and the OS.
2) Moto/Verizon put this build through a butt load of testing before releasing it. We had a leak well before the official OTA that was extremely stable and Moto still wouldn't release the OTA. Generally OEMs, especially one's like Motorola, and especially for flagship devices like the Razr HD, do not release updates without thorough (as in what might seem as unnecessarily thorough) testing. They don't want to take the chance of having to give people their money back because they can't use their phones after the update.
Lastly, it's possible that something happened along the way of your update and that may be causing your problem.
Are you rooted? Were you rooted before updating? This may have caused a problem while updating.
I'd suggest using the DROID RAZR HD UTILITY to fastboot restore and start with an out of the box experience. It's also possible that the app data for smart actions (as in the data your phone saved about what you already had programmed into smart actions) was not wiped before you updated and now you are getting conflicts with app data from 4.0.4 not working with 4.1.1. Your best bet is to start fresh if it really is a problem. I ran the update after fastboot restore and I haven't had any problems. I also haven't used smart actions since updating, though.
Hope this helps...good luck

Have you try a factory reset (master clear)? You can also try wipe data and dalvik if you have access to these options.

Amazon sent me an email saying they noticed I was having app store issues and a link to download a update outside of their app store.
The only issue I'm having and can't figure out is when I set the alarm on my phone and it goes off there's nothing that pops up to turn it of or snooze. I literally have to shut the phone down and restart it to turn the alarm off. I've looked thru my disabled apps and can't find anything disabled that would be affecting this. Any advice?

Amazon sent me an email with a like for the new appstore. Haven't had issues since.
We recently learned that you may be having trouble signing into the Amazon Appstore for Android after upgrading the operating system on your Verizon Android phone.
We've made a newer version of the Amazon Appstore available that addresses this issue. To download and install this latest version:
1. Go to http://amzn.to/getappstore from your mobile phone's web browser.
2. If prompted, choose "Browser" in the "Complete action using" pop-up and Appstore will begin to download.
3. Once the download is complete, pull down the Notification bar at the top of the screen and tap "Amazon_Appstore_release.apk" to install.
4. Select "OK" to replace the application, then tap "Install."
5. Tap "Open," then enter your log-in information.
6. If you previously turned on Parental Controls or adjusted other Appstore settings, you will need to make those changes again. To do so, tap "Menu," and then "Settings."
Your previously purchased apps will remain available. You can view them by tapping "Menu," and then "My Apps." Your previously downloaded apps and progress will also not be impacted when you download the new version of the Amazon Appstore for Android.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Sincerely,
Customer Service
