I tried a few of the ROMs here on my Tilt already. I noticed on a couple of them that the sending size for the MMS was set at the old 300Kb limit. I often send stuff that is right at the 600Kb limit and want to keep that limit.
I noticed on a few of the cooked ROMs the limit was 300Kb, and I couldn't figure out a way to change it, even going through configuration and settings.
So, my questions are as follows (and, yes I did search)-
Is there a way to change it that I'm just not seeing (short of maybe a regedit?)?
What ROM are you running, and what is your sending limit? (this is the one I came up with no answer at all for when searching)
Could this have to do with a particular MMS install .cab file? (similarly I didn't see an answer for this one. Lots of cab links, but no specs on the limit)
Thanks!
EDIT: Dangit, I put this in the wrong forum. I meant to put it in the Kaiser forum.

By "short of a regedit" do you mean you DON'T want to edit the registry? You may find a cab for ARCSoft or whatever MMS client you're using that has the larger sending size limit. But it would probably be quicker to just change it manually by editing the registry. Check this post for the Hermes, most likely it will work on the Kaiser also.
Set MMS Send Limit to 600 kb

@over2land: I have been wondering about this also!
@hotmail: Thanks for your reply - I changed registry items per your post in the Hermes thread and now have 600 limit. I didn't find any registry keys with title of Wap1SendLimit_x - so I just changed the SendLimit keys, and also changed the ReceiveLimit keys, and Voila! good to go!

If regedit is the only way to do it, I'll do that. Right now I'm back on the ATT OE ROM and radio, since I'm on ATT, it works for me. I get the 600Kb limit. But, the cooked ROMs are typically faster and have more storage, so at some point I'll end up going back to a cooked ROM.
I was hoping that there was some setting going through the phone's UI that I could change. Even though I've regedited every phone I've had, I'm not 100% on regediting this one just yet.
I am using ARCsoft... I was hoping to avoid having to DL every .cab I can find for that limit. I was figuring if people posted their cabs or thier ROMs with the 600Kb limit, then someone like myself who didn't want to necessarily reg edit the phone would have some recourse.
I think I have a cab that's got the 600k mod in it. if you want it, let me know.

I'm guessing the 3mb limit does not apply to AT&T's network? Or do they support a 3mb file going out?

Not sure about ATT but I installed this cab and went into the MMS settings and changed the limit to 3mb but I've only sent out a 1mb file or so over the Tmobile network. Works good
Does it cost more to send a larger mms?

For the 3MB one, and in the same post is the 600kb one. Post also includes a .gif on how to.

ok so i sent myself a pic which was org. 200k but when i recieved it, it was like 3k
and the size of the picture was super small
is there any way of fixing this so i can get the ORG. size?
it depends both on your network and on your OS. generally, certain resolutions are reduced.
there is a limit, therefore you can't receive EVERY image with its original size.
try the wspheader.cab from this post
(EDIT: Apologies, the thread title should have stated this is relevant to the market(s))
I'm considering creating a series of applications, some of which contain a database of images thus making the final apk size quite large.
Does large file sizes for reference programs (when the user knows there will be a large amount of data involved) put them off downloading it or do people prefer having things pulled from a host? (or even having a small app size but then asking the user to install xx MB to there SD card?)
I suppose the best option would be to have an option for both.. but just want to know what other dev's have done in this situation.
(P.S - First post.. lurked here for a while but mainly been at modaco )
Whats puts me off is when I want to buy a program and I know I will not be able to test it within 15 minutes because of the extra files needed after the install.
I'm not paying for something I can't test out, blame stupid Google for their 15 minutes refund policy.
i don't really like large size file
why not pull the images from the interweb when the app opens?

It depends on what you mean by "large."
I don't want to spend time downloading an app that is a few hundred megs.
If it is only a few megs, I don't think of it as large though.
I'll also add that I don't want to download an app to find that I have to download more things to use it. If it is pulling data from a host, I don't want to experience any delays at all.
Thanks for the responses but I think I ended up answering my own question in the first post - have the option for both.
The best option from a dev point of view is downloading the extra files first, then the reliability and speed of hosting isn't as much of an issue as people won't need to access these on demand.
As I'm typing this post a 4th option has also become apparent - download all the text data in the beginning and for each entry you can pull the image manually.
Some of the apps are most useful on the go (Think: Wine lists/database), making using their mobile data compulsory would put people off I think.
Thanks for the advice
P.S By large I mean less than 70mb, which I'd say is quite large for a phone app)
Ok so I have a mystery to solve..
I took a pic with the stock camera on rom 6.3.6 earlier tonight. For some reason the pic before it and the pic after it saved into the Gallery, but not this VERY IMPORTANT pic. The pic did in fact take successfully though, I looked at it on the phone after taking it and saw it had shot successfully. But it's not saved in the Gallery. In my mind, though, I'm thinking that even though it might not have saved properly in the Gallery folder or whatever, that it must be still held in some temp memory or folder, given that it did in fact display on the screen..and that as long as I don't turn off the phone, it must be in there somewhere still...
So you xda sleuths..any ideas where it might be stored? As I said, this pic is VERY important and I'd really really like to recover it. I'm scrounging through every folder however small with Root Explorer right now trying to find it..
If it's there it will be in dcim/cammera/
That would be where it was stored if it was saved to the Gallery, right?
Where are pics stored in the interim ie between the taking of the shot and then saving it there? While it's being displayed briefly on the screen?

I have had this problem multiple times acrobat69.
I have had to play with the OC speed and vsel - 800/64 seems to work the best for me for camera and video camera.
If I go more .. or sometimes less I get things lost, or lock up.. and just not work.. sometimes crash the phone.. this is on 6.3 rc3 - I have not upgreaded to 6.3.6 yet.
James
Hey James fwiw I've found 6.3.6 really stable for the most part. Its not that the camera crashed, it just didn't save that one time for some reason.

Is there a grey icon with a ! in the middle of it? Use the search button on this General forum a look for my thread called Failed to read/write on sdcard. It should help out with the cause, when and solution to get your picture back. I am mobile so I can't link it for you, sorry.
Hey acrobat69,
Did you try importing the pictures using Motorola Media Link? If you are sure that the pic still exists on the sd card and you did not see the error message "Low system memory" (which is when pictures generally do not save) you should try importing pics with the media link. Or, if you think you have deleted the pic accidentally or something of that scenario, try "Recuva" for windows, restores pics from sd cards, if deleted accidentally. Hope you find the pic!

Try downloading QuickPic from the market too. I use it as my gallery. In fact I have completely deleted my gallery.apk. QuickPic will scan your entire card for media files as long as there isn't a .nomedia file blocking it. Might be easier to find out where it is being held, if at all.
Much thanks to everyone who has tried to help in this thread, some really good tips, all of which Ive tried, including Recuva.
Woodrube I did the thumbnail thing and although I gained back two other pics I previously couldn't see, alas neither of them was the one I needed.
I did notice that there were more than 2 thumbnaildata files as you described..one was big like 400+kb and the other two were identical sized, 4kb. The two at the top were time stamped right about the time that I know I took the lost shot, and the third 4kb was located down towards the bottom, with a time stamp of just 2 minutes before the other two. I deleted all 3, but now I'm wondering if maybe I goofed there. Actually..just typing that out sounds like I did goof, majorly.
Maybe I'll try and recuver that third thumbnaildata file and unmount remount..damn hope I didn't screw it up
ETA: I did use Recuva and returned the 3rd file I was nervous about. It was actually called image_last_thumb and I guess I deleted it because it looked sinister being at about the same time stamp of my "issue" and also because I was working on this at 3 am and not thinking straight. At any rate, no change even once I returned it to it's proper spot. My image is lost, I think.
On the upside, I too have to recommend QuickPic. Really like the speed of it and it seems to be more stable, so far. Thanks Woodrube!
Q Pic not in gallery so where is it
None of the above, Kenny. In fact, your dash work is exactly the kind of thing we want to highlight in the Gallery.
<snivelling excuse>Weve been working hard on a new release, and support, and the Gallery has not been getting any love. </snivelling excuse>
Please email a link to your clip, and Ill get it into the list for the next Gallery update.
Guys,
does anybody know if it is possible to change settings of Skydrive Auto Upload feature.
(It is a great feature, but can be better.)
I mean:
- image size change (currently, pictures are very small - about 100 kB)
- upload pictures only on WIFI (it uploads data on E or 3G as well, so it can cause a big battery drain if you take many pictures)
Thanks.

i asked Microsoft about that, they say the resizing must be because of limiting the data connection of each user. they said to me think of 3mb each picture and you have 100 pictures, and if you look them in you picture hub, you internet connection would not be able to manage it to download all of them in the memory bla bla bla. so that if you slide your pictures it would LAG thats what i think! therefore their small but its a shame that we have no function to define the size. something like: orginal size, 800x480, or 1600x960 the 3 sizes would be enough for me. and for every regular user i think!
It is pity that it does not work.
It need not to be 3 MB, but 400-600 kB is enough.
Another thing is that you cannot run it ONLY on Wifi. :-(
Uploading from the SkyDrive app. allows you to upload pictures at full resolution according to WPCentral. Try that. Good luck.

i've tried but, you should try to upload 100 pictures... that's insane believe me. sync to PC and then upload is not the solution why do we have then this integrated feature... its only half of an feature
Exactly! I am totally pissed off that Microsoft does NOT include multiple upload to Skydrive.
and with cameras that are 5megapixels and up, whats the point..
moreso, my HTC radar, doesn't have an SD card, so i HAVE to upload my pix...
sure, i take a pic, i want it to be a full screen shot, 5M if not more, but then i get the stupid small pix uploaded...what a rip off.
basically, we have a good camera on our phone(s), and no reason to have it b/c of upload.
and to continue, i am sooo dissapointed with the windows phone.
i took the windows challange, got a free phone b/c my G1 was slower, and now HATE the windows phone...the G1 is so much more versatile....

By all means, go back to your G1. I would like them to fix this issue, but am not going to leave the platform because of it. They are bringing many things with WP8 and this may be one of them. I have no issue syncing my photos wirelessly to my computer when I get home for now. If you really don't like it, why use it?
