Guys,
does anybody know if it is possible to change settings of Skydrive Auto Upload feature.
(It is a great feature, but can be better.)
I mean:
- image size change (currently, pictures are very small - about 100 kB)
- upload pictures only on WIFI (it uploads data on E or 3G as well, so it can cause a big battery drain if you take many pictures)
Thanks.

i asked Microsoft about that, they say the resizing must be because of limiting the data connection of each user. they said to me think of 3mb each picture and you have 100 pictures, and if you look them in you picture hub, you internet connection would not be able to manage it to download all of them in the memory bla bla bla. so that if you slide your pictures it would LAG thats what i think! therefore their small but its a shame that we have no function to define the size. something like: orginal size, 800x480, or 1600x960 the 3 sizes would be enough for me. and for every regular user i think!
It is pity that it does not work.
It need not to be 3 MB, but 400-600 kB is enough.
Another thing is that you cannot run it ONLY on Wifi. :-(
Uploading from the SkyDrive app. allows you to upload pictures at full resolution according to WPCentral. Try that. Good luck.

i've tried but, you should try to upload 100 pictures... that's insane believe me. sync to PC and then upload is not the solution why do we have then this integrated feature... its only half of an feature
Exactly! I am totally pissed off that Microsoft does NOT include multiple upload to Skydrive.
and with cameras that are 5megapixels and up, whats the point..
moreso, my HTC radar, doesn't have an SD card, so i HAVE to upload my pix...
sure, i take a pic, i want it to be a full screen shot, 5M if not more, but then i get the stupid small pix uploaded...what a rip off.
basically, we have a good camera on our phone(s), and no reason to have it b/c of upload.
and to continue, i am sooo dissapointed with the windows phone.
i took the windows challange, got a free phone b/c my G1 was slower, and now HATE the windows phone...the G1 is so much more versatile....

By all means, go back to your G1. I would like them to fix this issue, but am not going to leave the platform because of it. They are bringing many things with WP8 and this may be one of them. I have no issue syncing my photos wirelessly to my computer when I get home for now. If you really don't like it, why use it?

I DL'd the Camera v2.7 installer from one of the threads here. I love how this app handles indoor pictures, even if the display still doesn't look as if it's doing anything.
I would like to change the Camera shortcut in the Programs directory and Start Menu to point to this new application instead (It is also stored in \Windows). Aside from installing Resco File Explorer, is there any other way to do this?
Also: Just in case, where are the registry settings for this camera app? Does it use the same ones the old camera app uses?
Try Total Commander maybe it can do it for you. Or copy the shortcuts to your PC & change them there, don't forget to copy them back
Not sure whether the same reg.keys/values are used.
M
Thanks.
Total Commander works. I'll keep it around. ^_^
Copying the shortcut to WinDOS doesn't work (XP Professional); the path is greyed out when the link is on the phone, and if you take it out to your desktop, Windows won't recognize it as a valid link.
PS: The new camera performs better if there's a source of light _in front of_ it. Without one it's as bad as the old. Taking a pic of my PC monitor works wonders, but attempting to take a pic of the corridor with the monitor behind me produces grainy results (evening time 6pm).
Can't complain, tho. At least the pic of my monitor isn't grainy anymore. Next camera version should be perfect, I hope. <_<
I got the same 2.7 version with my 1.13WWE rom & it's performing nice in good light conditions. Other conditions are not to discuss :-(. I'm trying to get the 3.0 version working, but the fellow with this version isn't capable of dumoing the cab, not to speak of finding all related reg.keys. Too bad.
Btw I moved the camera & album apps to my internal storage & changed links, reg etc. Works OK & saves a lot of RAM.
M
[Edit]
Forgot to mention that updating the values (brightness, contrast etc) in HKLM\HTC\Camera\AppDefSettings\General
Will change the default camera settings, so you don't have to change them after switching from 'night' to 'daylight' etc.
I have checked the forums for an answer to this problem but couldn't find one.
I recently purchased a Vario II on t-mobile. I think its a cracking gadget, but I've always been a big picture sender, and I have a niggle - on its highest quality picture settings the vario II produces pictures larger than 300k. When I try to send them I get a message that it can't send pictures over 300k - annoying, but usually countered by the fact that every normal handset I've had shrinks pictures to the requisite size before sending.
This being a pocket pc I would assume it would hardly be processor-hungry if the app just shrunk pictures down a bit for me (when necessary).
Sure I could knock my quality settings down a bit - but what about when I want to send bluetoothed/copied photos from other sources (such as my digital camera)?
I used to do this regularly on my old sony ericsson.
I love my Vario, but this annoys me, and if I can help it I'd rather not have to shrink all my bloody pictures down with a third-party photo editing app before sending them. It seems like a crazy oversight on the part of the manufacturer!
I sincerely hope that I've simply overlooked something, but if not does anyone know where I can get a patch/alternative mms sending application for my vario?
it would be very much appreciated!
Hmm.. I'm not sure about you.. but if you go to your messaging application (the default one), bottom right `Menu`->`MMS Configuration` at the `Preference` Tab, at the bottom of the page, you see the 'Photo Resolution`. Try lowering that.
I'm using Charmer, but ought to be the same since it is WM5.
I only wish that would work - That's the retrieval resolution, though I have tried it.
Seems ridiculous that you can automatically alter the resolution of photos that you receive, but not ones you send!
PLEASE please please someone must know!
From messaging; Menu -> Tools -> Options -> MMS -> Scroll down to Photo Resolution" and change it to a smaller size. Just tested it and it worked for outgoing on my TyTN Rom!
Phil
I have tried that - on all resolutions, though in fairness not with an original image from the camera, this is a 700k image from a Nokia phone. No matter what resolution I change to it still gives me the error message!
Anyone got any idea what it could be?
I don't see why it would matter that the photo is off a different camera. the principal of shrinking a jpeg is still the same surely.
I have a T-Mobile Vario II. It has had no modifications done to it at all
Hmm... that is weird. Probably the 'shrinking' feature uses some of the JPG header to determine its size and such (e.g. dumb programmer who uses weird ways of doing things).
Anyway, if you have spaces left around your phone, there are some software that is able to resize photos available for WM5 (or at least WCE200x). For your case, you may want to resize it manually before sending.. I guess.
i just downloaded Cool Camera. I think its great but i dont know where its storing the pics when i save them. Plus how do i get rid of the default windows camera i.e. make sure that pics i take with cool camera are stored in Pictures and videos tab. Any help would be much appreciated. ***edit*** ok i found out how to do everything....sorry for wasting forum space,ha!
- I finally got my PPC set up perfectly how I wanted it and was wondering if theres any kind of application out there that I can download that will make a clone of the whole thing, including the storage card. I was hoping to beable to make something so that if I had to hardreset and I could just run the clone image and it would auto instal and configure everything exactly as it is now.
- Secondly I was trying to find some kind of software that I can run on a desktop PC and my HTC Touch and see on the desktop, what im seeing through the camera on it. Kinda like video conferencing. I've tried Live messenger on it. also Skye just straight up freezes with wm6.1
Any ideas? Suggestions?
SPB Clone didnt seem to work real well. It suggested the clone size would be 15mb when it should be closer to 200mb.
Great Idea
Wish I could help but I'm hoping someone else will answer these 2 questions.... How i'd love to be able to just load 1 image back onto my phone when it F*#$%S up.
Someone posted a link to software that converts your phone to a webcam but it costs and I'm a poor student who can barely pay the rent (had my phone before I became a student in case anyone is wondering)...... A freeware version of webcam software would be great.....anyone?...Bueller? Anyone?
Whats the one that costs money? I'm curious.

How about SPB Backup, isn't that much better. It has an option to backup the storage card too, but it is unticked to save memory consumption.
Ok so I have a mystery to solve..
I took a pic with the stock camera on rom 6.3.6 earlier tonight. For some reason the pic before it and the pic after it saved into the Gallery, but not this VERY IMPORTANT pic. The pic did in fact take successfully though, I looked at it on the phone after taking it and saw it had shot successfully. But it's not saved in the Gallery. In my mind, though, I'm thinking that even though it might not have saved properly in the Gallery folder or whatever, that it must be still held in some temp memory or folder, given that it did in fact display on the screen..and that as long as I don't turn off the phone, it must be in there somewhere still...
So you xda sleuths..any ideas where it might be stored? As I said, this pic is VERY important and I'd really really like to recover it. I'm scrounging through every folder however small with Root Explorer right now trying to find it..
If it's there it will be in dcim/cammera/
That would be where it was stored if it was saved to the Gallery, right?
Where are pics stored in the interim ie between the taking of the shot and then saving it there? While it's being displayed briefly on the screen?

I have had this problem multiple times acrobat69.
I have had to play with the OC speed and vsel - 800/64 seems to work the best for me for camera and video camera.
If I go more .. or sometimes less I get things lost, or lock up.. and just not work.. sometimes crash the phone.. this is on 6.3 rc3 - I have not upgreaded to 6.3.6 yet.
James
Hey James fwiw I've found 6.3.6 really stable for the most part. Its not that the camera crashed, it just didn't save that one time for some reason.

Is there a grey icon with a ! in the middle of it? Use the search button on this General forum a look for my thread called Failed to read/write on sdcard. It should help out with the cause, when and solution to get your picture back. I am mobile so I can't link it for you, sorry.
Hey acrobat69,
Did you try importing the pictures using Motorola Media Link? If you are sure that the pic still exists on the sd card and you did not see the error message "Low system memory" (which is when pictures generally do not save) you should try importing pics with the media link. Or, if you think you have deleted the pic accidentally or something of that scenario, try "Recuva" for windows, restores pics from sd cards, if deleted accidentally. Hope you find the pic!

Try downloading QuickPic from the market too. I use it as my gallery. In fact I have completely deleted my gallery.apk. QuickPic will scan your entire card for media files as long as there isn't a .nomedia file blocking it. Might be easier to find out where it is being held, if at all.
Much thanks to everyone who has tried to help in this thread, some really good tips, all of which Ive tried, including Recuva.
Woodrube I did the thumbnail thing and although I gained back two other pics I previously couldn't see, alas neither of them was the one I needed.
I did notice that there were more than 2 thumbnaildata files as you described..one was big like 400+kb and the other two were identical sized, 4kb. The two at the top were time stamped right about the time that I know I took the lost shot, and the third 4kb was located down towards the bottom, with a time stamp of just 2 minutes before the other two. I deleted all 3, but now I'm wondering if maybe I goofed there. Actually..just typing that out sounds like I did goof, majorly.
Maybe I'll try and recuver that third thumbnaildata file and unmount remount..damn hope I didn't screw it up
ETA: I did use Recuva and returned the 3rd file I was nervous about. It was actually called image_last_thumb and I guess I deleted it because it looked sinister being at about the same time stamp of my "issue" and also because I was working on this at 3 am and not thinking straight. At any rate, no change even once I returned it to it's proper spot. My image is lost, I think.
On the upside, I too have to recommend QuickPic. Really like the speed of it and it seems to be more stable, so far. Thanks Woodrube!
Q Pic not in gallery so where is it
None of the above, Kenny. In fact, your dash work is exactly the kind of thing we want to highlight in the Gallery.
<snivelling excuse>Weve been working hard on a new release, and support, and the Gallery has not been getting any love. </snivelling excuse>
Please email a link to your clip, and Ill get it into the list for the next Gallery update.
